I wouldn't say the 50% devaluation of the Yen has made Tokyo cheap, but it's certainly made it more attainable for a tourist traveling to Asia for a week.

You can eat in Tokyo similarly priced to Bangkok if you stick to the local, high-carb noodle and rice diet. Rents are generally much higher in Tokyo than Bangkok, but you can find something reasonably priced if you don't mind living in a closet. Public transport isn't too expensive there, which is good. The outdoor environment in Tokyo is much better, with more parks and outdoor things to do, but lifestyle in Bangkok, because it's a more international city, is probably more fulfilling overall.

I always ride shotgun with mates like bob who are pure chick magnets. Takes all the effort out of it by being able to get setup with their fat friends. I used to have a friend who made things even easier for himself. He would put in no effort at all and start by choosing a number, skip the regular bars, go straight to the go-gos, and ask the mamasans if they had his number. Once he got a match it was bar fine time. Usually 3-4 bars and he hit bingo. And if that didn't work, he would go to Thermae, drink a few, and then on the way out take which ever one was standing closest to the door.

bob please let me know once you've successfully bedded most of the hot ladies there at the gym. I will be looking to you for some expert advice on how to hook some of them too. I am certainly not as rich, as charming, as young or as handsome as you, but maybe there is still some hope for me if I can at least speak Thai half as good as you?

Now youv'e got me a bit curious to see what one of his full-spread Bangkok World entries looked like. By the time I had come to know of him he was already writing just the one page articles in the Bangkok Post with no photos and eventually I believe it it got cut down to just a half page of text in the nineties. Seems unlikely anyone had scanned and saved any of his Bangkok World articles from the sixties or seventies. I did manage to find this collage though that was created by the now defunct Patpong Museum. Many of the faces and all of the text had been blurred, but it does provide a bit of sense of what it looked like.

Those mean-greens are still around? Didn't notice. I need to look more closely. I might be wrong, but I think at least 30% of all the city buses now are electric. They are lovely. Navy blue in color. Very quiet. The back door opens wide enough so that at least 3 people can pass through at once, no stairs (which prevents falls), and inside they are cool as a cucumber. They are also run by a private operator, which is good because it means they will be (hopefully) better maintained than the state run buses, but (possibly) bad because they could also fail if not profitable enough. Other downside is I think they can only make 2 runs before needing to recharge batteries. And recharge time can take quite a while when many buses are recharging at once. Saphan Kwai? Why did you ever leave? All those wonderful bars on Suthisan! A friend took me down there once in the early nineties telling me it was Patpong for the locals. To me the places seemed a bit rough and rugged though, filled with what looked like mainly low-level thugs. Truth be told, I was pleased when it was time to check-bin and never to return.

As soon as Dolf and Transam show up it's time to leave. All the wit and humor disappears and it turns into a pure pissing match between 3 five-year olds calling each other silly names.

Before the internet invented this failed human experiment they call "social media", nobody would have ever been able to turn their life of boring drips and drivel into something that pretends to be news. "Hey, everyone, look at me, now I spend less on A so that I am able to pay for B, wanna know my magic secret?" Then add in couple of tripe selfies showing a bit of cleavage and Bob's your uncle. FFS, it's a true epiphany, and she is so inventive that she should be on talk shows and doing paid seminars about it already!

A bit less hair on the head and a bit more hair on the back and shoulders and I would have been totally convinced that is bob.

He's not going to take that outside. He's going to get naked, cover it in butter, and slide around all over it. Not to mention the price. He can get at least 10 short times for that.

I even got him to join AA once by telling him it was an Alcohol Abundant meeting.

The only way I have ever been able to successfully get bob to leave the bar was by telling him they are giving away free beer outside.
