  1. They couldn't care less though, so my 'two visits to get it done' rule still applies. Getting upset with them might push this our to three or four visits, they'll play with you until you remember your manners.
  2. I've always found that two visits are necessary when dealing with Thai bureaucracy: the first to find out what you need, and; the second to submit your application in accordance with the nuances of the day. Getting upset with officials, while tempting, usually results in even more running around and scrutiny.
  3. The UN makes various proclamations about this and that, but nobody takes any notice, and the veto wielding permanent members are now sworn enemies. It's a nice gravy train for all its staff and hangers-on, but nothing more.
  4. True, but the jury is out on ganja. It affects some people badly, after all. Time will tell it's overall affect on Thailand, now that so many people are using.
  5. Well, that's true, but change can always be slowed down a bit. It's called conservatism. Hmmm, maybe I'll vote for Prayuth's lot in the next election ????. Change in the western world certainly hasn't been for the better.
  6. You mean you don't like fat, loud, slobby, tattooed women, with pink hair and thick rimmed glasses, who hate men? You'd be denounced as a misogynist and shunned for disgraceful behaviour like that back home.
  7. Oh no, a westerner with culture shock who wants Thailand to turn into his home country.
  8. It's all relative. I've just arrived in Thailand after a stint in Australia and can't believe how friendly people are here.
  9. That pretty much sums it up for me.
  10. The UN is an anachronism. Nobody seems to take any notice of it anymore.
  11. Might cool things down a bit here ????
  12. In 2008 I stayed in a newly built hotel in Pattaya that had no balcony railings at all. The builders hadn't put them in yet.
  13. Why would any Thais join? Thais are better at minding their own business than western folk.
  14. Right. That or people paying them the 'fine' on the spot.
  15. More serious offences like drinking and driving go to court so convictions would be recorded. Going through a red light and speeding are fixed penalty. In other words, similar to the West.
  16. Meth is ghastly. It nearly killed a friend of mine, and it's right that they should get rid of it.
  17. The 'who' part makes a huge difference.
  18. Global warming? A fad otherwise known as weather, and its always been changeable.
  19. Pints of Greene King IPA: Wetherspoons £3, other pubs £4 here in Norwich where I'm visiting at the moment. Witherspoons may have gone up, but still good value.
  20. gullible /ˈɡʌlɪbl/ Learn to pronounce adjective easily persuaded to believe something; credulous. "an attempt to persuade a gullible public to spend their money"
  21. He's been a very naughty boy.
  22. This style of unprovoked rudeness epitomises the intolerance of the dope lobby fan base.
  23. Well observed. The big dope lobby uses clever marketing to build a huge and committed fan base, who are rather intolerant of dissent.
