I travel a lot around Thailand (bus and train) and never spend more than 1000 baht a day. 500 baht hotel rooms are fine by me.That and eating local food plus travel costs makes it easy. Quadruple that if you take a lady friend.

I always forget my original o visa stamp.Mine is in an old passport . Stressful time i agree but we always get there in the end.

Backpack it like us young uns do.Overnight bus to NK,border run,night in NK(worth a visit) then bus home for about half you would pay by air.
