  1. So true. The extended "smoke season" and now the tax residency crap make it a double whammy.
  2. I arrived at the same conclusion with a few rough calculations. It will be bad.
  3. Methinks the Thai government has severely underestimated the wide options available for capital and revenue to find a new home.
  4. A. Those who pay zero or negligible Thai taxes will take a huge hit with the low tax threshold. Many non-O people in that category. B. Keep your mouth shut about overseas income? Good luck with the paperwork when CRS kicks in.
  5. Good luck to you if/when Thailand's PIT changes from a territorial basis to a worldwide basis.
  6. Other contributors have given full reasons. I will add one more. Retirees and married people do not want to mess with taxes. To file on both ends and work out tax avoidance (especially on the Thai side) will be a fustercluck. Ergo, mass exodus to friendlier skies.
  7. If Thailand taxes on a worldwide basis, there will be a mass exodus of expats.
  8. Wait and see, But if it gets gnarly, the plan is to take my money or my physical body out of taxman's reach.
  9. The second picture with the tram is surely not Thailand.
  10. Personal choice. Asymptomatic and they don't like the side effects of treatment.
  11. In the worst case, H. pylori infection can progress from asymptomatic to stomach ulcers to cancers. What the specialist said is true. I have asymptomatic friends who chose not to go through the treatment.
  12. You almost certainly did not get a retirement extension at Central Festival, unless an agent pushed through your paperwork. Picture or it never happened.
  13. If you know for certain or have personal experience, say so. If not, please don't give wrong advice about visa matters even if you mean well.
  14. The signs of the Central Festival branch office didn't say retirement visa extensions are processed. Are you certain?
  15. What I thought too until this thread - especially Bill97's reply above.
  16. Do they process non-O extensions at Central Festival? Could anyone confirm?
  17. I highly recommend Dr. Siri Chiewchanvit at Sriphat Medical Center. Incidentally he speaks good English too. I can't tell you how much it would cost, but Sriphat is generally cheaper than Bangkok Hospital.
  18. bg53 replied to delboy's topic in Chiang Mai
I did this a few months ago at CM Immigration and there was a counter for this that operated all day.
  19. I had a horrible experience with an optometrist at a big hospital in Chiangmai who was (they told me) one of the two optometrists in CM who knew how to prescribe glasses for my condition. After that horrible experience, I decided that my next visit to an optometrist would be in Bangkok, or outside Thailand.
  20. What happened at the office?
  21. Please don't muddy the discussion. Personal income tax is not directly related to employment or labor laws. Let's keep the discussion to CM Immigration office, and to what the IOs now want and how to deal with it.
  22. Enquiries, complaints or suggestions through these channels usually lead to a dead end. For instance, try https://www.chiangmaiimm.com
  23. It would be a matter of grave concern if CM Immigration now decides the onus is on applicants to prove where they get money to live on, and to provide an audit to show how that money is or is not taxable. So update us with the outcome.
  24. If this becomes standard practice at CM Immigration then it is of grave concern. Did you get your extension at CM?
