  1. "On the other hand, if the girlfriend does not smoke and told these people she does not, then they would / could deem he was over the limit."

I dont ever recall that there is any requirement when buying Duty Free cigarettes/alcohol that you have to prove that you are going to use the cigarettes /alcohol yourself ! as far as I am aware most countries that allow such purchases only state an age limit depending on local laws at which age you can purchase such items and the amount allowed , therefore I would say that the OP's friend has been well and truly intimidated/scammed out of around 500+ dollars .

Haven't you heard? They now stop you on the way out of the duty free shop, force you to puff a few of the cigarettes you've bought. If you cough they punch a hole through the top of your bowler hat and stamp on your toes.

  3. Why is this only about Aussies? The terminal rates for 'farang' need to be exposed - and that is a far more sinister figure of total expats passing on whilst 'in' Thailand.

There was speak of this on another thread where people did claim Thailand was the most dangerous destination for Aussies and of course some do not believe and post..where are the statistic?..please give me webpage? ect ect

im sure this kind of poster will soon be on this thread also rolleyes.gif

But to speak in simple terms: Australians are a danger to themself!! Surely they face the same risk as any other tourist, so this whole idea is nonsense

Many come here from a very strict nanny state and go crazy because beer is so cheap and laws are often bent.

After being under the conditions of Aus where you will probably be arrested to f4rt in a public, beer and cigarette at ridiculous price, its no wonder they cut loose and let off some steam..cannot blaim Thailand tho whistling.gif

You are talking absolute <deleted> mate you don't get arrested for farting in public ! Yes Beer and cigs may seem expensive if you are coming to Aus from a country that doesnt have a favourable exchange rate such as the UK but overall its a lot safer here than LOS and you dont have to pay tea money to the local constabulary every 50 mtrs !

  5. I'm pretty sure that if i tried to offer a bung to an immigration official here in Aus for any reason I would soon feel the hand of a burly federal cop feeling my collar and possibly be wearing a pair of bracelets as i was marched off to face a charge of bribery! so if its not acceptable here why should it be acceptable there ?? keep the 3 k in your wallet as i'm pretty sure there is something better that you could do with it ,if not send it to me and I'll spend it on your behalf .

  7. I suppose your child are entitle to have an Irish passport as they are a child of an Irish citizen(who was born in Ireland). Please apply an Irish passport for your sons as our Visa office will not accepted a visa application from a person who entitle to get Irish passport.

I dont think that reply was written by an Irish person as the grammar is pretty bad! almost as bad as one of those nigerian scam Emails in fact !

  8. . It occurred to me that defacing a banknote in Thailand might be a serious issue - given the image on them.

@ OP I think you might have answered your own question there ! as I remember reading some time ago that it is indeed illegal to deface anything bearing an image of His Majesty and ibelieve that technically it is an offence to fold a banknote in such a way as to cover his image ,taken to extremes it would actually make it illegal to put the banknotes inside your wallet as that could be construed as insulting the king ! but I guess that even given the strange ways things are done in Thailand it would be impossible to enforce the laws pertaining to the royal family as they would have to put everyone in the country on trial .

  9. The Office of Alcoholic Beverages announced that occupants of vehicles of any kind who drink alcohol while travelling are now subject to six months' imprisonment and/or a Bt60,000 fine. But the new penalty still doesn't seem strong enough to deter careless drivers from getting behind the wheel.

So does that mean if you are a passenger in a vehicle who has had a night out and got a little bit the worse for wear or still has a bottle of beer in your hand then you are potentially going to end up in the nick or fined a stupid amount of money ?? coz that is how I read the meaning of the article doesnt seem to me to be a way of getting the drunken idiot drivers off the road if it is ,just another way of raising some Tea Money >

  10. Dec 7th 2012 my wife my self and our four year old son with 90kg of check in baggage were to fly out of coolangatta at 9.05 am

all the time with a four year old kid and over 120 kg of bags ,it was the worst experience of my life .

Somehow the OP's luggage managed to put on weight on the trip as well !

  11. There is a shop on the corner 2nd road/Pattaya Klang that sells Stroh 80 Rum from Austria. The 80 is for the alcohol in %. Excellent taste. Try and stop bothering about soft drinks.

That stuff is lethal I had some a couple of yrs ago made the mistake of necking a shotglass of the stuff and couldnt talk for nearly 20 minutes as it was like drinkning anaesthetic and tasted like it as well and at around AU$60 for a 350ml bottle its well expensive .
