Do you want President Harris to pardon Trump?
Cameroni replied to earlinclaifornia's topic in Political Soapbox
It is rare, admittedly, but I was a bit shocked there are no restrictions on abortion in Minnesota. In the 80s true globalisation was just starting out, it was the flow of history, lower regulations, go global and focus on service not manufacturing. But China's ascent to economic primacy, this was not Reagan's doing clearly. But there is a fair point to be made that America is not producing: 1. vehicles people want to buy 2. most of the steel used in the world But America is still the 2nd largest manufacturing nation in the world. It just lost the lead to China. Mostly because top American talent goes to finance and law firms, whereas in China it goes to manufacturing. -

I was wondering if they made that up too, but looks like indeed it's rare, but does exist, in Minnesota there are no restrictions. Here a Minnesota newspaper fact checking this: https://www.mprnews.org/episode/2024/09/11/minnesota-mentions-trump-harris-presidential-debate As for China, I don't think we can blame Reagan for the progress of economic development, but it does indeed look to me like the US could not compete say with Chinese EVs. -
That's how I see it as well, the only downside to convos with friends, is that you don't live with friends 24/7 but with the girl. Would be nice if she could also talk about philosophy, but if that is the case, indeed they then do bring their own problems into the relationship. The worst is the physical deterioration, from age 50 the face of a woman will look quite different to when she was 24. You really do need to decide if you can wake up to that day in day out.

Not all are lies, some are facts. Immigration is a real problem, late abortion is a real problem, price cut competition from China is a problem, incompetence from the Democrats is a real problem. Some of the points are facts. -
Smart Home automations - anybody using?

I use Google Nest and Alexa , and both are incable of playing a specific Youtube video on the TV. Though they can switch it off. So much for AI taking over. -

They were on the winning side, the Russians really won it. -

It's not that I want to blame Churchill. I rather like Churchill, a very intelligent, interesting, flawed and morally complex character. However, one can't look at WWII and absolve Churchill of all involvement. He did play a role which was not always sensible or above reproach. Some of his decisions were mistakes in hindsight. -

It's particularly funny because Biden had the same issue but was found too old and likeable to prosecute, whereas they threw the book at Trump. Talk about different rules apply. -

She's a terrible influence, hopefully she will be kept away in the future. -

The Soviets did take pretty much everything they could. The Americans too looted German castles with abandon. The British returned Volkswagen, which is rather incredible. -

Okay, so we agree they did not liberate Poland. It must have been crushing to see the repeated defeats then, Norway, Denmark, Holland, France, Greece, Crete, Yugoslavia. A lesson to all men to never give up, no matter how bad the failure looks. -

He's not using her as an adviser, but he must have seen her bit on pet eating in Springfield since she published it one day before the debate. She's a terrible influence, though to be fair Musk and others had also tweeted about the cat eating. -
I agree, he is a great statesman. We need someone like him in the West.

Quite right, and this became apparent already before Hitler's declaration of war on the US, the Americans were shipping massive amounts of material to Britain and escorting convoys. For all intents and purposes they were in the war on Britain's side before the declaration of war. -

The Americans did not need Britain to launch the invasion of Europe, that could have been done from other sites. By the time that came the war was decided anyway and the Red Army was marching on Berlin. You're right in a way that the involvement of Britain and the US retained Germany in the Western world, for without it Russia would have ruled over all of Germany. So it would be like Poland now basically, assuming Perestroika would have happened anyway. -

Loomer was to blame for planting this pet eating nonsense in Trump's head. He should disassociate from this witch. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cly8y27dwgpo -

An academic explores the reasons for Churchill's antipathy towards Germany. interestingly it also shows that Churchill was ahead of his time and proposed German reunification, after WWII, but was not taken seriously. https://winstonchurchill.org/publications/finest-hour/finest-hour-186/german-question-churchill/ -
True, though that was the moderators directing the debate, not fact checking. I take your point though. Personally I think the journalists had far, far too much input in the debate. The politicians can handle debate themselves, as Trump and Clinton showed in 2016. The whole fact checking thing is nonsense, it would be naive to expect politicians to tell the truth and they both lied like there was no tomorrow.
-
That's an interesting take, I'd seen the moderators bringing up her flip flopping as their attempt to show even handedness. They actually did say "why did you reverse your position on fracking" didn't they? But yes, absolutely, they piled on Trump, Muir in particular. Now it turns out the fact checking was not accurate
-
You are not wrong. His closer was magnificent and he clearly won that exchange. The problem was the 40 minutes or so before that he was always goaded by the moderators to talk about his own record, by Harris too, and he did so. He should have done more of what he did at the end. Point out that Harris had been in the white House for almost 4 years and done none of the things she talked about.

It would be a real show if Trump becomes president and then pardons Hunter Biden. That would be delicious and fragrant. -
Look, you can argue, "this is what she meant, that is what she meant"...and maybe you'd have a point, she meant to say "this" or "that". We can't really know for sure. But we both know what she actually said. That Trump gave the Biden administration an epidemic "he left us the worst epidemic in a century", something for which Trump had no agency at all since he's not the one to blame for the fact that the Biden administration, like Trump himself, had to contend with a pandemic. She tried to put blame for the epidemic on Trump, would you accept that?

It was very obvious she was literally repeating scripted lines from the CNN interview. They obviously told her "Look, if they ask you why you reversed your position on all these topics just say "My values have not changed"...Even if you flip flopped like a MoFo it will mak you look consistent" Lol
