  1. I wish Narita could get the same accolades.

Oh how I wish the same, Narita is just a pain in the butt to get to, I guess that's why they have no flights before 9.30 am, cos it's not possible to get there unless going by 200 USD Taxi, I have also been stranded there at night after getting a complete search by customs 12 years ago ( there was a group of 12 Eueopeans in a mess ), no more trains or Bus's to downtown Tokyo!!

Had to sleep in the airport and wait for the first Keisai Line in the morning, but the security staff were very good and didn't mind us geting absolutely hammered on duty free spirits! :o

  2. I have fairly substantial assets in Thailand and abroad (certainly worth in excess of Bt100m). The vast majority of this is physically located in Thailand in the form of properties, cash and stocks and shares. Now I have been with the same girl for the past three years and she is gradually moving in. My question is fairly simple - by letting her move in, am I exposing myself to having to grant her some financial settlement in the event we eventually break up? She obviously gets to keep the pressies - the jewellry and the car but does she have any claim on any of my assets. I obviously have no intention of actually marrying her...

Don't worry about it too much, she'll probably have you whacked and get the lot anyway.

If I had assets worth in excess of 100 Million Baht, I'd keep it to myself.

  3. If we had a brain...................

That's the problem, too many Farangs are unable to take any type of flak from any Thai without screaming racism and xenophobia, kinda like the immigrants do in western countries.

You take all the good things that Thailand offers as a God given right, anything that you disagree with is dismissed as Nationalistic or just plain rubbish.

I too wish that we Farangs had to go through the same Visa procedures as the Thais do who wish to visit Farang countries, a very large number of so called tourists would never be permitted to enter Thailand for sure.

  4. I signed on the line yesterday for 15 months in the dusty desert (Saudi Arabia) and in doing so turned down 30+ months of assignment (Plus full expat deal) in Thailand.

'Well' I thought 'I've been there, done that and I've got the T-shirt (not to mention a delightfull Thai wife)'.

I'm pleased to say, my wife thought the same (and yes I did ask her for her opinion before I signed).

Good for you, I am sure your delightful wife will be in her element in SA desert, and of course being Thai she would have gone crazy had you accepted the offer of working in Thailand on a full expat package.

    Best wishes. :o

  5. I asked my GF what the locals think of him. She told me that they laughed behind his back.

I don't believe this, it just seems to me that you cannot get along in Thailand as well as others do, you constantly whinge and seem very bitter about your life, and now you are on an internet forum hoping to get some support from total strangers to make your unenviable position in life appear to be not quite as bad as it really is.

Would your old friend want to swap places with you and move into a barricaded house in Pattaya ?

I think the laugh is aimed at you, your GF is actually wishing that her knight in shining armour was as cool as this up country Farang seems to be. :o

  6. Is it because a certain group of farangs are upset that this particular group of Thais, the hi-so or the Thai-Chinese, don't "worship" the Farangs as "white gods" the same way the lower-classed Thais do?

Or, is it painful for a farang from the "wealthy west" to come to Asia thinking he's richer than everyone here, only to find out in the end that there are actually "real live Asians" who are much much richer than him?

    BINGO!

Many Farang are bitter against anyone with more money than themselves, especially Thai's.

Times are changing folks, long gone are the days of European world domination, Asia is on the rise and Europe is getting into a real mess, Great Britain once had a mighty Empire, The Romans, Greeks, Egyptians also had their day, but they are all long gone.

It seems it's the Asians who will be the future dominant force, and many Farang just can't hack it. especially those from ex powerhouse, Great Britain.

  7. OP,

Except for your current TGF, have you ever had a girlfriend in your home country? Did you ever give her money for her parents and other living expenses? Why would you treat a Thai women differently?

It would depend what country he came from, it is very easy for people that come from countries with Social Security systems and Old age pensions to be critical of a system where old people recieve nothing.

Thailand and many other countries are not in the same league as countries like UK, where hundreds of thousands of people who are quite capable of work, don't work because life is easier on the dole. Their bills are paid and a whole system is there to help them, thanks to Tax payers money.

If the Social Security payments and pensions finished in the UK tomorrow, I wonder how the UK would be affected, might even see UK citizens helping their elderly relatives out with money instead of sticking them in state run institutions waiting for them to die so they can squabble over who gets the house with their siblings.

Don't you think there are Social Security fraudsters living in Thailand claiming benefits from their own countries for disabilities they don't have and claiming they live in UK by using a bank account number and some other relative to provide an address, probably some reading this right now.

Many UK citizens seem bewildered at the Thai System, believe me, many Thai people are equally bewildered at your system, and would love to have your benefits, but they are just not available.

Some Farangs seem amazed that people help out their families, I'm quite sure that rich Footballers, Musicians, Actors etc, also help out their families too in UK.

Bob Geldolf gets Knighted in UK for his work in raising money for needy people, yet many UK people say it is wrong to send a few quid to one of their own family members if they have a Thai wife.

Thai men also help out their families, you may never see that from the dizzy heights of your barstool, or sat behind a PC 12 hours per day in your house or condo feeling superior to those that are financially inferior to yourselves, but it happens.

  8. Doesn't matter if you are thai or farang. That's is Thai story/culture..... agree or not agree ... the same story !

    Manu

Farangs think it's a conspiracy against them, the fact that Thai men also send money to relatives goes above their heads.

The same as when a Farang is stopped for speeding by the police or for not wearing a helmet, he will pay up, then drive away cursing the Thais for singling out Farangs, the fact that 500 Thai people were also stopped and fined at the same checkpoint again goes over the Farangs head.

Farangs in Thailand seem to think everyone is out to get them.

Kinda sad really, and very shortsighted. :o

  9. With some exceptions, this applies to virtually every Farang/Thai relationship in LOS.

Would you care to enlighten the Forum as to how you can judge and comment on ' Virtually every Farang/Thai relationship in Thailand ? :o

Or did you learn this ' Knowledge ' listening to the jaded old cynics nursing their Singha beer outside a mama and papa shop in Pattaya ? :D

  10. ........Sihanoukville is a potential gold mine....the next Pattaya....but a lot of changes will have to take place to make it happen.

Would you really wish another Pattaya on the people of Cambodia, look at the mess the original Pattaya is in.

No thanks, give me Pattaya 15 years ago, ok, but now........................................

  11. I think it's a blast.

Every year I was in Pattaya I always went out for the Songkhran water fights, good fun, but you need to be prepared to get soaked time and time again all week, if not, stay at home.

I would do Naklua with some Thai guys at the Motorcycle shop, always a big party, on the 18th, then the 19th in Pattaya usually just find a bar that has water.

I know many Farang don't like it and I have seen a lot of Farangs getting violent with other people cos they got soaked, they should stay at home.

I always wanted to hire one of the big water trucks and soak everything and everyone, the Arab guys always seem to hire them......those trucks have some serious fire power....

Unfortunately, I will miss this years as I'm working away from Thailand.

    Have a good one. :o

  12. Gotta check those tires for nails as well, half a nail or screw pushed too far into your tire where you haven't noticed can ruin your day right quick.

Checked tires that aren't over age, overloaded (as mentioned), and haven't reached their wear bars usually don't just burst. I have mine changed every 30-40k km and also have my driver do visual checks regularly (in addition to checking myself). Treat your car like a well maintained airplane and you got much better odds of getting from A to B.

    :D

I had a screw in my tyre that was found by The Toyota Engineers at my service interval, I wouldn't have spotted it myself. :o

  13. On certain stretches of road I use side lights with fog lights on, mainly on roads that are under construction and have stretches of dual carriageway that then go into 2 way traffic on one side of the road only. Accidents can easily occur in these situations.

Also on the 314 road towards Pak Thong Chai to Kabin Buri over the mountain, at the moment that is also under construction and is a dangerous road as people are trying to overtake the painfully slow trucks as they struggle up the hills.

Lights on in those conditions are a must in my book.

I have never had a problem with the Police for this.

  14. I advise you to get a better Antivirus. Antivir is also free but has a very high rate of detection where AVGs is average at best. A good antivirus should have gotten something this common.

    You need to run Smitfraud to remove it. You can get detailed instructions on it's implementation here;

Vic, Thanks a lot, that worked a treat. Great link, worked first time on automatic clean in safe mode.

Thanks also to the other guys that posted, you have been very helpful. Drinks are on me lads.. :D

Now, where was that porn site ? :o

  15. I have a pesky little icon that keeps flashing and every 10 minutes a balloon appears telling me I have spyware problems and I need to go to a site to download and pay for anti-spyware to remove it.

I have run AVG free edition, Spybot and ad-aware, but that little %^$#@!# icon is still flashing away, if I click on the balloon it opens www.spylocked.com and I am asked to pay for anti-spyware.

Any advice on how to rid myself of this pest ?

I cannot use webroot spy sweeper as I have already previously used the free trial.

P.S. That will teach me to try to download free porn!!! :o

  16. I used my AIS pre-paid phone in Singapore 2 weeks ago with no problem, and no need to activate roaming at the call centre anymore, Singtel sends automatic sms as soon as you turn the phone on in Singapore with details on calling out.

Now I'm in Japan, and of course, no network coverage here. :o

  17. Certainly are enforcing at Aranyaphratet border......................

I went there today, going out no problem, coming in I was asked to produce my old passport as my new one was issued in January, I never had my old passport, but of course my old passport number was recorded in my new passport when the old entry stamp was transferred in January.

Hence a computer check was performed, I was over 90 days as an individual, nothing to do with what passport I was using, I got back in Thailand with a stamp in for 1 Day only. In fact it was 9 hours only, 3 pm to midnight.

So it's off to Singapore tomorow for a 3 day 2 night break to get a tourist visa.

I am leaving the country for work at the end of the week too, but the Immigration guy at the border would not even give me 48 hours to settle my affairs, same day in and out !! :D

Guess I should not have listened to some prix who told me that the stamps/days in my new passport would be the only ones counted. :o

I mentioned to the Immigration guy that I had to return home to get the funds to purchase an airline ticket to go to Singapore and as it was already 3 pm and I lived 250Kms away I would be on overstay by the time I was travelling to the airport the next day.........................

    His response was " I don't care ", bless him. :D

Bought my ticket already and will leave in the morning hoping I am not asked for my passport on the route to the airport.

    Be warned chaps.

Some Rumanian girl was in tears after she was refused entry cos they are not issuing Visas on Arrival at this present time at the Cambodian border, all her backpacker friends had already passed through into Thailand. They're a group travelling on their first trip to Thailand, they seemed in a state of shock!!

Welcome to the Land of Smiles. :D

  18. yes, I know that bad news sells copy and good news isn't worth a look, but this imbalance can give people a false impression of the town.

An international beach resort where the traffic police wear facemasks to protect against the air pollution.

I was in Bang Saray yesterday, quite nice. Pattaya Beach and Jomtien...............forget about it.

Take away the sexual orientation in the entertainment establishments and Pattaya would be empty of so called International Tourists, at least that way it may clean up.

Hard to believe that Pattaya was just a small fishing community in a previous existence.
