  1. I inherited "father's" Mitsubishi Strada Grandis 2004 - not sure the engine size. I've never driven on the right side of the car, nor have I ever driven in Thailand. I've been on a Honda wave for the last 3 months.

I hate motorbikes. I'm loving the pickup - not quite the standard I'm used to in the USA as my last car was a Lexus, but it is much better than the Honda Wave.

I have never driven a diesel either and would like some tips to get the best mileage from it as speed is not paramount.

The most important is the safety of myself and family, and not killing any Thai idiots who despite their attempts to kill themselves they have so far failed and will not be able to do it under my pickup.

Am I safe in assuming that being quick to move up the gears and keeping a light foot will save fuel? What is the sweet spot for highway? How many kmh? How about running down Sukhumvit. I was at the mercy of all the Thai *@##*$#$* and Farangs who think they are hot shit, but now I can slow them down if I want to so I don't mind going below the traffic norm if the norm is outrageous.

What do I need to do to the engine - services etc .. it has 24,000 miles and probably never had a service, I'm sure "father" only changed the oil once in a while. It runs smoothly but does seem to lack speed in 1st gear - but I'm used to a gasoline engine.

    All comments welcome.

Speed limit on the Sukhumvit is 90Kph believe it or not :D

The 24,000 Miles you quote may well be the read from the odometer, if that's the case it will be 24,000 Kilometres equalling less than 15,000 miles.

Change your engine oil and filter every 5000 Kms, maybe take it to a Mitsubishi main dealer for a service and check up now, then stick to the 5000Kms engine oil and filter change.

It will lack speed in 1st gear, it's a pick up, not a Porsche. :o

  2. In Thailand this poor friend is a mere mortal and The Dude gets much hotter chicks than he does. It's called shoe on the other foot syndrome. The Dude hands out shovels to all who can dig this concept

    Haha......Good one Dude. :o

  3. Bennyboy, you have to bear in mind that many posters on this forum are old codgers who would have to pay for female companionship of any kind....

Young good looking guys like you and me, we get by a lot cheaper than the rest, 1800 per day is massive when the girls fall all over you, for free.......... :o

  4. Pattaya is as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be, especially as you will not pay for accomodation.

1800 Baht is plenty for some people for a whole day, others spend more than that for one round of drinks when they ring the bell in a beer bar.

If you only have 1800 per day, then that should be fine, just don't ring any bells!!

    :o

  5. You would think that half the posters on this Forum were being held in Thailand against their will. :o

My thoughts exactly, can never understand why a Farang should be so unhappy in Thailand.

It's not like they are chained up and forbidden to leave.

Many left their own countries because they where unhappy there, yet they seem unable to leave Thailand, a country where they constantly complain of, racism, no rights, crappy property ownership laws, Immigration laws, corruption, two tier pricing, bad drivers, stupid people, bargirls, barboys, water shortages, street vendors, soi dogs, taxi touts, the new airport, taxi drivers , tuk tuk drivers, m/cycle taxis...etc etc etc....

To a passing alien, it may wonder why on earth you would stay in such a place , when you have the whole world to choose from.

Personally, I think Thailand is a good place to live, that's why I live in Thailand. :D

  6. You guys make me laugh.........

It's ok for you to shag anything that moves, and then boast about it to your mates, jack the lad, good bloke etc etc.............

A women goes wih another man, then its a crime, she becomes a tart, a wrong un, a slut, kick her out of the country etc..................

Most of it is cos if your wife or girlfriend sleeps with another man, he may have been a better man than you in her eyes, and that my little macho friends is what you cannot stand.

If you are dating a girl and sleeping with her, you think she is great, a wonderful girl, why else would she be your girlfriend ?

If she meets another man and finishes with you and sleeps with the other guy, you call her a slut, a wrong un, a biatch.....

Men make up all the derogatory words to cover their own shame at being unable to keep a woman. They blame her instead of looking at their own failings.

    :o

  7. The days of punching it out in a gentlemanly manner are over. You really need a weapon

now. Boxing etc is good training but now its multiple attackers and weapons vs you. You need

a weapon to meet theirs. Those days are over. 1 on 1 Hand 2 hand is over.

    True @ Nam Kao,

" The days of the Hard man are over, some spotty skinny 17 year old kid will just stab you or shoot you "

So Rambo and Chuck and all you other internet warriors, I know you are tough, I know you are all highly trained lethal fighting machines, but...................beware of that skinny kid, you can't block a bullet. :o

  8. Thanks for the comments guys.

    Had a good laugh :D

    It was a serious post.

    QUOTE(saraburioz @ 2006-11-07 10:22:09)

We own nearly 5,000 rai of land /.../

How did you managed that? We get nagged for owning more then 150 rai, according to some land-laws...

All in her name. Some people get hassled for having more than 1 rai, it all about who you are or know.

Where do these internet dreamers come from ?

Not so long ago you were complaining that you could not afford to send your kids to an international school, now you are one of the biggest landowners in Thailand..........

Then again, a man with your connections amongst the Thai Elite........... :o

  9. Just to put the record straight. Noel is not a violent person by any means.

    Quote from Noel;

Going back some ten years or more, I had a slight disagreement with a German who thought it funny to drench my girlfriend, having been warned in no uncertain terms not to.

I was carted off by the Police, whilst the other party had a nap.

The end result after several hours was that I had to pay for his hospital bill, the shattered Rambo water gun that his face accidentally came into contact with a few times, plus 'compensation'.

Noel is not a violent person by any means... :o:D:D Please continue.

  10. How many dead Aikedo, Tae Kwon Doe, Jujitsu, Karate, Kung <deleted> and Judo guys in the graveyard?

Judging by the responses to this thread, it would appear that many Thai Visa members are highly trained martial arts experts, or just plain ole tough guys that would break another guy in half if the need arose.

I wonder why internet forums and chatrooms attract such people, you would have thought these guys would have been out training, instead of spending their spare time rattling off thousands of meaningless posts on an anonymous internet forum. :o

  11. So it was you then!

    Did you get paid...? :D

Not me, guy you violently assaulted was probably 70 years old and had a zimmer frame.

Tell me something, are you one of those Brits that will act all tough, then when you get pulled up and fear the consequences, you whimper " Sorry mate, I was only joking " :D:D

Violent men like you should stay in England were you can go out on a Friday night, get totally slaughtered, beat some poor guy up cos he's better looking than you and can actually get a girlfriend who's sober, then head off to the nearest Indian for a curry and 3 bottles of Blue Nun to eventually throw the whole lot up in the cab home.

The great English night out. :o

  12. We were sitting in a quiet non-girly bar, just about to meet some close friends before going on for a farewell dinner in a quality restaurant

    Yes, in a heartbeat...

You must have been a newbie.............or just plain ole stupid,

Maybe you should have just gone straight to the ' quality restaurant ', instead of sitting in a bar during Songkhran. Then you would not have had the need to batter a man in the face with a rambo water gun, enough to hospitalise him I might add.

    English by any chance?

I bet your friends were really impressed as you were carted away to the police station, people like you give the many good British people a bad name. :o

And would you do it again, I love your answer, in a heartbeat, of course if the guy was built like a house, then you would just accept it, or get the beating of your life, or are you another internet hard man? :D

  13. Excuse me but I believe there's a rule that only one troll is allowed per thread and since creeper was posting here first, you'll have to find another thread.

    Thank you for understanding.

Poor ole John......... Still trying to get me to bite.

I have no idea why you keep up your personal attacks on me, a guy that spends his life on this forum, ( judging by the enormous ammount of posts you have )you should give new guys a chance instead of the continuous Troll accusations, just cos they have a life that differs in circumstances to your own life (in front of a monitor), it does not mean that they are trolling. :D

Maybe you would be happy if everyone was banned and you could rant on and copy and paste to yourself without ever reading a differing point of view or a circumstance that you have no experience of.

If people have circumstances that differ to your own experiences, they must be trolling, right?

Just ignore my posts John, you'll give yourself a stroke. :o

    Good day.

  14. do you actually know anything about this country and the way it works?

Not compared with what you know about Thailand, and me. :o

I hope to one day have as many posts as you do, and be as unhappy about Thailand as you are........ :D:D:D

  15. What should I be telling her?

If you have any feeling at all towards her, you should encourage her to get a guy that will give her the security she will need when she is older.

It's easy for you at any age, it won't be easy for her in her 30's , 40's.

Let her go while she is still young, give her a chance to find a guy that will involve himself in her family life.
