  1. Even less realistic...he's been watching YouTube.
  2. Can't speak for most of them but the ones I know were disgusted by the football kick. The only ones I saw trying to defend it are foreigners. Interesting phenomena. The defenders said things like "You can't judge Thai culture" and crapola like that. I don't think normal, respectable Thais consider that behavior part of their culture...
  3. Yes...and I would prefer that not to happen.
  4. America was quite shy of about war mongering, prior to WW2. I agree that we shouldn't hold individual Russians responsible for what is going on in their country. On a personal level, I make no assumptions when I meet a Russian. However, I don't think that means we need to invite them into our country at this time. Not persecuting them is one thing and national security is another.
  5. I feel more sincerely welcomed, as a foreigner, in the Philippines than in Thailand. I am not saying "All Thais hate us" (I don't have an opinion on that). But I am saying that the level of sincere welcome for foreigners varies greatly from country to country and even area to area, in my experience.
  6. If no news articles said it, the news article says the police don't know...but everyone knows...then why hasn't it been mentioned in any thread yet? If you know, tell us which hospital he was sent to. Because I don't know. And noone I have talked to knows. And the news articles don't seem to know. And apparently the police don't know. But everyone knows?
  7. So what's your theory on why the bar staff would know which hospital he was sent to and the police wouldn't? Look, I am not on the guard's side, regardless. The face kicker should be put up on attempted murder charges, even if the guy is ok That said, we also have to remember that these "news sources" are not exactly reliable. In fact, I don't think the guys putting up THIS video are a reliable news source, either! But I don't think they faked a video, either...I mean, that would have serious repercussions for them, as well.
  8. Video looks legit to me. That said, I am realllly shocked that guy walked away after getting football kicked in the head. I don't blame anyone for thinking he might be dead or brain-dead.
  9. Wait and see...and invest nothing in Thailand that I can't take with me if I decide to leave.
  10. I don't think he has worked there, in some time. And I don't think he ever owned it. In fact, most of the guys working as managers on soi 6 don't have enough money to own anything...that's why they are relatively young guys working that job. I am sure he does have beers there, sometimes, though...
  11. I could be wrong but...I don't think Adam owns any NW bars. He managed Sexy In The City at one time, before working for the news. Bryan Flowers is an owner, one of the top guys, I think, in the NW bar group.
  12. Why not? Also, to the OP, there are non-profit, private hospitals, I believe, as another option.
  13. That may be a difference and enough that they wouldn't do it. But on the second question, I don't feel they would need to "take on the Revenue Dept's job", any more than they take on the bank's job in verifying your income. They just tell you what they require and you go to the agency (the bank in one instance, the Revenue Dept in the other) and get what they ask for...or you don't get extended. But I will drop it since it's clear that some other people (not you) are getting defensive and hostile on the topic.
  14. I am not saying there is but since this is new (a new interpretation and implementation, anyway), there wouldn't necessarily be an indication either way yet, would there? Afaik, from trying to follow the other tax threads, there is no clarity from the Thai government on how things will be enforced or implemented yet. Money, I would think. I am sure some expats would end up having to pay taxes. That said, with Thailand, maybe also a sheer love of bureaucracy lol (second part is half-joking). I understand they have said that's the...primary aim. We are not the prime target. I am not sure that means we won't be affected, though. It seems to me, at first glance, that Immigration puts all the effort on us, as foreigners, to prove that we comply with their rules. So would it be difficult for them to just say "Hey, prove you paid your taxes if you want a visa renewal"? I guess you could say that it would require inter-departmental cooperation...but...there may not need to be much cooperation. To prove my income, I have to go to banks and get a letter issued by the bank. So is it that big a stretch to think they might do the same with tax compliance? To clarify for...other posters, I am not saying they will. I am just not so sure they won't.
  15. I asked "Why couldn't they do that?". Can you help me understand which part of that question indicates to you that I am saying there is evidence they will?
  16. I am aware. I must not have been clear in my post. Let me phrase it differently. With either method, the onus is on you to prove that you have what is needed. For example, if you are using the income method, you have to go to the bank and get a letter from the bank. You have to present it to immigration. You said they have no way of knowing if you lie on the forms. So I am asking why they couldn't just do the same thing with tax clearance. Why couldn't they make you get a letter from the appropriate Thai tax agency...saying you have paid your taxes in Thailand?
  17. They could just force you to produce official documents that you are cleared, couldn't they? They already make you prove your income. So not sure why they couldn't make you prove your tax clearance, as well.
  18. Yeah, I am not seeing that. At all. But cool, you do you.
  19. But I am saying if America isn't even 50%, do you really think Thailand is? You are saying that Thailand is almost leading the world's obesity?
  20. 4-6 out of 10 would average 50%, which is a lot closer to the stats that I mentioned (less than, but almost, 50%) So 50%, instead of 42% might be hard to notice any difference. Or just a matter of the area. Maybe in your area, it IS 50% and in Colorado, it's 38%.
  21. No offense, maybe it's your perception that's off, rather than the stats?
  22. It's not even 50% in America (though it's close). I think it's your perception.
  23. I don't think most people going to Pattaya for nightlife are looking for "classy". Not meant as an insult...I am in that category, myself.
