You should change your posting name to Maverick, always trying to fly under the radar. 🙂 -
New tax laws

If you agree with that post you quoted, you need to start studying tax law once again but with a focus on Thai tax rules this time...the post is quite simply, wrong. -

The issue is what the law is or isn't, not how the Revenue might find out about people who are trying to fly under the radar. -

That is incorrect guidance and is highly inappropriate! The basic deductions for an over 65 year old are 190k for over age 65 years plus 60k personal allowance. There is also a zero tax rated band of 150k. If the difference between those two allowances and the 500k you mention is derived from ANY source that is not covered by a DTA and/or is taxed at a lower rate in the home country than it is in Thailand, the income is assessable to Thai tax. Not registering for a TIN and not filing taxes to declare that income, assuming the person was Thai tax resident, means that person is guilty of tax evasion for which there are harsh penalties. -

I believe that is incorrect, the new interpretation of the existing tax rule in a departmental instruction that does not require to be gazetted since it is not a new law. "As of 1 January B.E. 2567 (2024), the Revenue Department has enforced its department instruction P. 161/2566 to tax any Thai citizen or a foreigner with Thai residency, who receives an income within Thailand. Sources of income earned outside of Thailand are excluded from taxation". https://www.siam-legal.com/thailand-law/thailand-new-tax-on-foreign-income-an-overview/#:~:text=As of 1 January B.E.,are excluded from taxation%2C however. -
You started a thread saying that you've found four web sites which state something that contradicts what the Land Office has already told you is not true, but you didn't tell us that. Then you're asking forum members to tell you whether the web sites are correct or not! And now you have told us what the Land Office has said, you're asking forum members to tell you whether the Land Office employee is correct or not! You should consider asking for your thread to be closed.

Wow! I hope you reported that.

Opticians who do Prescriptions without purchase!
Mike Lister replied to scottiejohn's topic in Chiang Mai
I would trust a glasses shop to tell you the prescription in your existing glasses.....I think! I was always a little suspicious of those coatings and paying for things here that you cannot actually see. Scratch resistant coating, UV coating, that'll be an extra 3k....but how do you know. -

PS......increasingly, opthamologists don't want to give out prescriptions and refer to optometrists, even in hospitals. Also, the doctor at St Peters Eye Hospital may give you one, I suggest you avoid the big hospital on the ring road. -

There aren't that many licensed optometrists in Chiang Mai, there is one who works for one of the big chain hospitals who is dreadful. Another is the owner at Vision Center who is extremely skilled and probably the best qualified in the North but again, you are expected to buy lenses from him. The people you've been talking to in the shops almost certainly aren't optometrists, they are sales people who know how to use technology to calculate prescriptions. If those people say they are optometrists, ask to see their license and see what happens. For me, I'd go to Vision Center every time. -

Yes, PAYE equivalents are common, even here. If it is straight forward PAYE then great. But that wasn't the picture the OP painted, he was suggesting he had agreed a salary and that the company would pay his taxes in addition to, which appeared to be a separate part of the deal on offer. He wrote, "Thought the company paid the taxes" when promp[ted about insurances and deductions etc..

Bangkok scorched at 38°C with thunderstorms looming
Mike Lister replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
You should check to see how wet bulb temperatures is measured. I worked outside in 36 degrees with high humidity last year and for the first time ever, almost passed out from heat exhaustion without realising. -
Nope, not for you personally, I know the quality of your posts far better than that. It was a general point, aimed at several posters, the forum needs posters like Bob and GG, otherwise other posters would have nothing to do, certainly nothing to complain about. What was it the man said? I may not agree with what you said but I will defend with my life your right to say it...or similar. That's where I'm at on this.

As it is the article mentions degrees C, it doesn't however mention the wet bulb temperature which is the real killer. A straight forward 40 degrees of dry heat is nothing, a high humidity wet bulb 36 degrees can kill you. https://www.weather.gov/source/zhu/ZHU_Training_Page/definitions/dry_wet_bulb_definition/dry_wet_bulb.html -
FWIW the the pub has always had "targets" that posters like to gang up and complain about and verbally abuse. You're right, it is pack or herd behaviour. But hey, if it wasn't a poster it would probably be a wife, neighbour or somebody else. Talking of which, where's GG these days!
-
Hmmm, I'm curious to understand what some posters in this thread would be doing if they didn't have Bob to complain about and abuse, I'm guessing they wouldn't be reading the BOT quarterly economics report!

That is possible but it would be a first for me in over two decades of working overseas. Fact is you need a work permit, without that you can't legally work. If the company sponsors you for that and agrees to pay all your taxes and that is contracted and agreed with the Revenue, great. But taxes are individual and unique to the person/family and need to be tailored. For example, how many deductions/exemptions are you able to claim for children, insurance policies and a whole host of other things, does you company know all of that? And does your contract for them to pay your tax, absolve you of all responsibility, I seriously doubt that. Much more info. is needed on this for me to feel comfortable, but that's just me.

How about a badge for those posters lacking original content and reduced to commenting on the content of others?

Perhaps I missed something but.... If you work for a company in Thailand or earn income from a company here, you can't reside here on a LTR visa, you would require a work permit. I am pretty certain that a LTR visa cannot replace a work permit or exclude income that arises from working here, it only negates the tax on overseas income that is remitted here.
