  1. I suppose non doms w/couldn't claim it.
  2. NO, we will not be taxed on all incomming finds, that has been fully discounted.
  3. You misunderstand....the Immi may be collecting data on monthly spend amounts by foreigners, so they can plan and cost new products and charges.
  4. The assumption is that this "check" is about income tax, it might not be that at all. It might be about determining threshold levels of income needed for new visa plans, or about what the charges should really be for visa's. This may not have anything to do with tax whatsoever, which would be my guess.
  5. That will work, as along as you don't have a bank account AND no income going into it!
  6. I use a fixed deposit also and again, no such request was made.
  7. I've just extended my visa and there was no such request either from the agent nor from Immi. As Charlie said, they already have the bank statements and bank books, sounds like another form filling exercise with no purpose.
  8. I doubt that theory holds much water, the man in the Amphur wanted to know how much I spend every month, when we got married, some people are just nosey or curious.
  9. It will vary from person to person, depending on whether or not you are tax resident (180+days per calendar year) and on how much assessible income you transfer into the country. You may wish to read the Simple Tax Guide to understand your own situation.
  10. Yes I agree. But Immi is solely focussed on foreigners, we're low hanging fruit in that respect and also a capitve market to Immi..
  11. I would not be at all surprised if this was the case, the only sensible way the Revenue has to enforce the new tax law is either via the banks or Immigration, Immi would be a natural bottle neck that will capture everyone and allow them to be checked.
  12. The behaviour and attitude of Immi in different parts of the country is massive, some will allow tweaks to the rules, others don't allow any and even invent their own rules, it's always been this way.
  13. CM Immi. iends to adopt new Immi. rules and processes ahead of other provinces, I've witnessed this several times in the past when they've asked for something such as a copy of your lease and others have laughed at the idea. IF they are now asking for proof of where the money comes from, watch it, I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand, not for one moment.
  14. With holding the SC for this reason is unlikely to be lawful and will probably cause even more expensive issues downstream. Similarly, retaining a lawyer to fight your corner will probably cost more than the cost of the cable. There's no good news on this. Best answer I think is to learn from the experience, replace the cable now (unless you really want to cut off your nose to spite your face) and then put in CCTV camera's.
  15. As a Thai citizen your wife should find it fairly easy to transfer the sale proceeds of her house in Thailand, overseas. The controls on transferring currency overseas were very tight but in recent years they have been loosened. Your wife is now able to transfer up to 50 mill baht, for any purpose. If there is going to be any problem at all, it might be in finding a bank that understands the rules, which are set by BOT but not always understood by everyone in branches. I suggest a bigger branch, preferably in Bangkok. You should also take a view on exchange rates, before you make the transfer, this is probably your biggest issue. The NZD is currently fetching about 21.45 but in the past 10 years it has traded up to 28.50, that's quite a spread over time. Making the transfer at current levels seems sensible is about all I can say on this. Lastly, you are aware I imagine that your wife cannot transfer THB outside Thailand, the bank will convert the Baht into the currency of the receiving country. https://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?from=NZD&to=THB&view=10Y https://www.siam-legal.com/thailand-law/bank-of-thailand-announces-relaxation-of-foreign-trading-and-exchange-regulations/
  16. You can't "not claim" the Personal Allowance, it's an automatic part of self assessment.
  17. Yes. Non-resident for tax purposes that is, you have to file the status with HMRC but you get the PA regardless.
  18. Doubtful that the UK State Pension will be taxable here since it arises in the UK and in many cases is the subject of a UK tax return (where additional UK sourced income is also received). Typically, 500k is a reasonable level of TEDA for most over 65 year olds, 600k would assume wife, children and other TEDA elements such as insurance etc. THB 500k = 11k Pounds +, at normal exchange rate levels it will be very close to the UK PA of 12,750. Lastly, don't expect any support our of the UK Embassy on this, the Swiss debacle was a one off.
  19. Seems like a very ungracious response from the OP, given all the sound advice he has been given, compared to the vagueness of the original post. I hope at least he now has his answer.
  20. "Evidence before public lynching"? The AN jury usually prefers to skip that unnecessary step, it wastes time.
  21. Yes, Thailand operates a Provincial banking system, out of province transactions are chargeable although ATM transactions are not..
  22. 5th post down on Page 1, posted by George, you walked right by it to get to mine!
  23. The JPM quarterly asset allocation report was spot on this quarter so I did well, slightly overweight Japan and equities, underweight Europe and EM. Going into the next quarter: I'm likely to slightly increase equities across the board, especially Japan, and balance that out with the M&G Short Term Corporate Bond Index. I'm still holding a lot in Money Markets but that's ok. This week the Fed speaks, markets now look for rate reductions later rather than sooner, mid year seems right to begin that. https://www.morningstar.com/markets/when-will-fed-start-cutting-interest-rates https://am.jpmorgan.com/us/en/asset-management/adv/insights/portfolio-insights/asset-class-views/asset-allocation/
