  2. Picture from responders. A construction worker narrowly escaped death after receiving an electric shock, while dismantling a building in Nakhon Si Thammarat. The man was left unconscious and trapped beneath the roof framework of a three-storey building before being rescued by emergency services. At around midday on 5 March, rescue personnel from the Pracha Ruamjai Foundation were called to the scene in Nai Mueang subdistrict, where they found the injured worker, later identified as Mr. Kraithap, 45, unconscious and wedged within the metal framework of the building’s roof. Rescuers climbed into the structure and administered first aid until he regained consciousness, though he was still unable to move. Due to the confined space he had fallen into, his colleagues had to break through a concrete section to create an opening for his extraction. Using ropes and a stretcher, the team carefully lowered him through the newly created access point in a challenging operation. Mr. Kraithap was handed over to an emergency medical team from Maharaj Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital and is now in a stable condition. Investigations revealed that he had been working with a team of demolition workers contracted to renovate the building. The group had been dismantling the roof and ceiling for about a week when the incident occurred. As Mr. Kraithap removed sections of the ceiling, he unknowingly came into contact with a live electrical current from a metal T-bar structure, which left him unconscious. His colleagues quickly alerted emergency services, who managed to save him in time. Authorities are investigating the incident to determine what safety measures were in place. -- 2025-03-06

  5. Picture from responders. A 29-year-old man was killed after being stabbed in the neck during a brawl at a local Mor Lam performance in Don Tan district, Mukdahan province, on the night of 4 March. The incident occurred at an event, which had been organised to dedicate merit to the ancestors. The event took place at Ban Pong Kham, Moo 9, Pa Rai subdistrict, with hundreds of people from surrounding villages in attendance. As the night progressed, tensions began to rise among various groups of young people. According to witnesses, several small altercations broke out, but the situation escalated when a larger fight erupted. Amidst the chaos, a young man, later identified as Moolchai Mulasriwa, was attacked with a sharp object, believed to be a knife, which struck him in the neck. He was left bleeding heavily and died from his injuries shortly after. The scene was described as chaotic, with blood spattered across the event grounds. Mr. Muang Saensi, the village head of Ban Pong Kham, recalled that, while there had been some smaller fights earlier in the evening, the situation became uncontrollable when the larger brawl broke out near the end of the event. In his attempt to break up the altercations, he himself was injured by a blow to the face. It is believed that Moolchai, who had no previous issues with anyone, might have been attempting to intervene in the altercation when he was mistakenly targeted and stabbed. Local authorities, including the Pa Rai Police Station, are conducting an investigation and have questioned over 20 young people who were present at the event. They are looking to identify the individual responsible for the fatal stabbing. Moolchai’s father, Mr. Phayuth, 58, spoke to reporters, expressing his shock and disbelief. He mentioned that his son had never been involved in any conflicts, and speculated that Moolchai was likely trying to help someone being attacked when the incident occurred. -- 2025-03-06
  6. File picture for reference only. Phuket International Airport is set to undergo significant maintenance work, starting from April 1. The repairs, which will focus on the taxiway and will require the temporary closure of the runway during overnight hours. The closure will take place between 00:30 and 07:30, with work scheduled to last until October 30, a span of seven months. The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT), in collaboration with Airports of Thailand (AOT), has already begun preparations to ensure minimal disruption to air travel during the maintenance period. To prevent flight cancellations, the two organisations are working on a detailed air traffic management plan, which will involve adjusting flight schedules for both takeoffs and landings. This strategy aims to ensure that flights are not impacted outside of the designated repair hours. Passengers during that period, are advised to check their flight schedules and remain informed about any changes to their departure or arrival times, particularly for those flying during the early morning hours. Phuket’s busy airport, a hub for both international and domestic flights, will continue operations as usual during the day. The airport’s proactive measures will help maintain the flow of air traffic while allowing necessary repairs to be carried out efficiently. -- 2025-03-06

  8. Picture from responders. A incident occurred at the Phabong Hydropower Plant in Mae Hong Son when a worker was pulled into a drainage gate and drowned while clearing aquatic debris. The incident took place in full view of his colleagues, who were unable to rescue him in time. Pol. Lt. Col. Khetnan Sillalit, an investigator at Nam Piang Din Police Station, received a report of a drowning incident at the Ban Phabong Hydropower Dam. Emergency response teams, including divers from the Mae Hong Son Disaster Relief Foundation, local rescue units, and medical staff from Srisangwan Hospital, were dispatched to the scene. The dam, which generates electricity for Mae Hong Son, is built on the Mae Samat River. The accident occurred at the water discharge gate, where authorities discovered the victim’s body trapped within the drainage system. Rescue workers had to open the sluice gate to release the body from the strong currents before retrieving it for examination. The victim was identified as Mr Sanguan Sangsarn, 44, a long-serving employee at the hydropower plant. According to witness accounts, Mr Sanguan and several colleagues were clearing weeds and straw that had accumulated around the drainage gate, obstructing water flow. Normally, they would throw the debris into the water and use a pole to push it through the gate. However, on this occasion, Mr Sanguan attempted to manually place the debris into the narrow opening. In doing so, he lost his balance and was suddenly pulled into the drainage gate by the strong water suction. His colleagues watched in horror but were unable to assist him. A diving team was deployed to recover his body, but the force of the water made retrieval difficult. After two hours of effort, authorities decided to open the sluice gate, allowing the body to be carried out by the current. The body was then taken to the hospital for further examination. Authorities have urged workers to follow strict safety protocols when performing maintenance near high-risk areas to prevent similar tragedies in the future. -- 2025-03-06

Tourists and residents were forced to evacuate in the early hours of the morning of 5 March, when a fire broke out in a condominium in Soi 4 Kor Phai, South Pattaya, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported. At around 03:00, emergency services received reports of a fire in Building B, Room 301 of the condominium complex. Fire trucks were dispatched to the scene, where smoke was seen issuing from the affected unit. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the fire alarm sounding and the units being evacuated. The affected room was locked and the owner was nowhere to be found. Forced to break the door open with a crowbar and entry tools, they quickly worked to contain the flames, which were traced to the kitchen area. The fire is believed to have started from a gas-powered portable stove, with it igniting items around it and kitchen fittings. According to eyewitnesses, a resident spotted smoke coming from the room and alerted the building’s security guard, who immediately called the fire department. An emergency announcement and the fire alarm sounded, to evacuate all residents, ensuring their safety as firefighters tackled the blaze. Investigators suspect the occupant of the room may have left the gas stove on and forgotten to turn it off before leaving. Authorities are now working to locate the room’s owner. Limited fire and heat damage was contained within the kitchen, with smoke logging of the rest of the area and effecting the corridor outside the unit. -- 2025-03-06

The incident took place just after the couple had been preparing a meal together. Police investigator Lt. Wichan Laitaisong of Plai Bang Police Station confirmed that officers were alerted to the shooting at 20:30 on 4 March. Emergency responders, including forensic experts and rescue teams, were dispatched to the scene, a two-storey detached house in Plai Bang, Bang Kruai district, Nonthaburi province. Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless body of Ms. Natchathichapak, 51, lying near the entrance to the kitchen. She had suffered a gunshot wound to the left side of her chest, with the bullet exiting through her left ribcage. Blood was splattered across the floor. A 9mm handgun, along with a single spent shell, was found on a nearby table and was collected as evidence. Her husband, Mr. Boonsong, 48, a construction contractor, recounted the events leading up to the tragedy. He stated that he and his wife had been preparing food together when he asked their son to drive out, as their daughter was due to help him with accounting tasks. Later, he noticed his wife retrieving a gun from their car, which he had previously advised her to store there. She walked back inside, finger on the trigger guard, prompting him to warn her about handling it carelessly. She allegedly dismissed his concerns, saying, “You shoot for fun all the time, so why can’t I?” Moments later, while he was putting on his shoes after using the bathroom, he heard a single gunshot. Rushing inside, he found her collapsed on the floor. In distress, he cradled her and repeatedly asked “Why did you do this?” before calling their daughter to summon emergency services. He and their son attempted to carry her to the car, but the floor was too slippery with blood. As they waited for rescue workers, he held her in his arms, pleading with her to stay awake. Medics arrived and performed CPR, but she succumbed to her injuries. Forensic teams have since collected gunpowder residue samples from all household members for DNA testing. Mr. Boonsong was taken in for further questioning at the police station, while his wife’s body was sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for a thorough autopsy. Authorities are continuing their investigation to confirm the exact circumstances of the fatal shooting. -- 2025-03-06

  24. Picture from responders. A young Myanmar woman searching desperately for her missing boyfriend throughout the night was left in shock when she found his lifeless body near a railway track in Bang Lamung district. The discovery was reported to police at approximately 19:00 on 4 March, when Pol. Lt. Phisan Hongfakaew, deputy inspector of Bang Lamung Police Station, received a call about a body found near the railway behind Krating Lai Temple in Moo 1, Bang Lamung subdistrict, Chonburi. Officers and rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation were immediately dispatched to the scene. The body was located on a steep embankment next to the railway, approximately 40 metres from the road, at a 45-degree incline. Rescue workers had to rappel down to retrieve the body, a process that took over 30 minutes. The deceased was later identified as Mr. Mo Aze, a 22-year-old Myanmar national who worked as a garbage truck employee for a private company. He was found on his side against a tree. His body bore a severe head wound and a deep gash behind his right ear, with a pool of blood surrounding him. Authorities estimated he had been dead for at least 12 hours. Nearby, approximately 3–4 metres from the body, police recovered a single flip-flop and the broken remains of a power bank, both of which were collected as evidence. The deceased’s girlfriend, Ms. Noo 20, also from Myanmar, provided testimony through a translator. She explained that they had been in a relationship and living together for around eight months. The night before the discovery, 3 March, the couple had a discussion about their future. Mr. Mo Aze revealed that he planned to quit his job at the end of the month and return home to Myanmar, asking her, “Will you come with me?” She declined, explaining that she wanted to stay and save more money first. Shortly after, around 01:35 on 4 March, he left their home and did not return. At 02:46, he video-called her, cryptically asking, “Do you see the train?” The video showed the lights of an approaching train. Moments later, the call was abruptly cut off, and despite multiple attempts to reach him, she was unable to get through. Fearing the worst, she searched for him tirelessly through the night and into the following day. Initially disheartened by her fruitless efforts, she realised that she had not yet checked the railway tracks. She followed the railway for over 500 metres before spotting his flip-flop beside the tracks. Looking down, she discovered his body lying among the trees, at which point she immediately called her employer, who contacted the police. An initial police examination suggested that Mr. Mo Aze had been struck forcefully from behind by a train, propelling him off the tracks and into the brush below. There had been no reports of any collision from train drivers. Given the nature of his final video call and his emotional state before disappearing, investigators suspect that there may have been the possibility that he either deliberately stood in the train’s path in an act of despair, or it was an attempt to gain his girlfriend’s attention, gone wrong. However, to confirm the exact cause of death, the body will be sent for a full forensic autopsy. Police will also continue interviewing witnesses to determine whether any other factors were involved in the incident. -- 2025-03-05
