Picture courtesy of SiamChon Thai police are investigating the discovery of a corpse covered with a fertiliser sack and plastic bags in a wooded area near a highway. Authorities in Huai Yai, have launched an investigation after a decomposed body was found dumped in a forested area off Highway 331 (Sattahip – Chachoengsao). The remains were covered with a fertiliser sack and plastic bags, and police have yet to confirm the victim’s gender. On 4 March, Police Lieutenant Nevin Suntavanik, an investigator from Huai Yai Police Station, was notified about the body near kilometre marker 25+400 in Pong subdistrict, Bang Lamung district. Officers, along with forensic investigators and rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation, were immediately dispatched to the scene. The body was located approximately 50 metres from the main road, inside a grove of acacia trees. It was in an advanced state of decomposition, suggesting the victim had been dead for several days. Nearby, police also found a pile of discarded electrical wire casings, with the copper stripped away, raising suspicions that the area might have been used for illegal wire scrapping. Police cordoned off the area and called in Chonburi Forensic Police Division 2 to assist with the investigation. A cassava farm owner, who first discovered the body, has been taken in for questioning at Huai Yai Police Station as part of the inquiry. Investigators are now working to determine the victim’s identity and cause of death. -- 2025-03-05

Picture from responders. A 30-year-old woman lost her life instantly after her motorcycle collided with a turning lorry, leaving her trapped under its wheels. Chachoengsao police are investigating a crash that claimed the life of a factory worker when a 10-wheeler lorry turned into a gas station, cutting across her path. The victim, riding a motorbike, was unable to brake in time and was crushed under the vehicle’s wheels. The incident occurred on 4 March at the entrance of a NGV gas station on Suwinthawong Road, near kilometre marker 62, in Nakhon Nuang Khet, Mueang district, Chachoengsao province. Police officers from Mueang Chachoengsao station, along with emergency responders from Phutthasothorn Hospital, arrived swiftly at the scene but found that the victim had already succumbed to her injuries. The deceased was identified as Miss Suthida Sang-asa, 30, a factory worker at a local company. Her pink Honda Scoopy-i motorcycle, registered in Nakhon Ratchasima, was found lying on its side, damaged. Witnesses stated that she was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, but the impact shattered it completely, leaving her with serious and fatal head injuries. The lorry driver, Mr. Jirapath Somboon, 31, was behind the wheel of a white Isuzu 10-wheeler, registered in Chachoengsao. He told police that he was making a turn into the gas station when he suddenly heard a loud noise from the left side of his vehicle. “I stopped immediately and got out to check, only to find the motorbike lying on the ground and a woman trapped underneath,” he said. Initial police assessments indicate that the motorcycle left a skid mark, suggesting the victim attempted to brake but could not avoid hitting the lorry’s left rear wheel. Emergency services transported the victim’s body to Phutthasothorn Hospital, where her family will be contacted for funeral arrangements. Police are continuing their investigation and gathering evidence to determine any potential legal action against the driver. -- 2025-03-05

UPDATE Police Confirm Missing Money Trail, Investigate Connections to Thousands of Accounts Before Being Transferred to “Nittaya” Authorities investigating a suspicious house fire in Nonthaburi, Thailand, have confirmed the existence of a financial trail linked to thousands of accounts, before the money was allegedly transferred to a woman named “Nittaya”. However, the whereabouts of the funds and the identities of those involved remain unclear as the investigation progresses. On February 23, a fire broke out in a house in the Tha Sai subdistrict, Muang District, Nonthaburi. The property’s owner reported that a large sum of 10 million baht in cash had gone missing during the incident. The fire department quickly responded and managed to control the blaze, but questions arose over the missing money. Police have since been examining the case, with Police Colonel Phisut Chantrasuwan, Head of Rattanathibet Police Station, overseeing the investigation. On March 3, he held a meeting with the police investigation team and forensic experts to review the evidence and progress. While it has yet to be definitively determined whether the fire was arson or an accident, authorities expect results from forensic testing by March 4. The police also confirmed that an initial investigation revealed no traces of the missing 10 million baht in the burned house. If it is determined that the money does not exist, the authorities will pursue charges of false reporting. Two individuals, Nittaya and Rittikorn, reported the missing money, but further scrutiny has raised doubts regarding their claims. A deep dive into the financial transactions associated with the house has revealed a complex web linking over 1,000 bank accounts, with funds being transferred to individuals connected to the family. However, the authorities have not yet determined whether these transactions are linked to illegal activities, such as online gambling, and it could take considerable time to trace the origin of these funds. Moreover, inquiries into the alleged businessman “First”, who was said to own a bird’s nest company and was connected to the funds, have yielded no concrete evidence that such a person exists. When questioned about the missing money, the fire department personnel who responded to the scene affirmed that they had not observed any cash during the operation. Niwat Leeratnoaree, a firefighter who was among the first to arrive at the scene, described how they quickly brought the fire under control after residents had already helped contain the blaze. He noted that no evidence of the 10 million baht was found, and the only mention of the missing money came after the house owner and her associates began searching the scene. The firefighter also pointed out that the fire had only consumed a few items like the mattress and there were no remnants or ashes, such as would be expected, if such a large sum of money has been involved. As the investigation continues, the police are also attempting to contact the family members involved in the case. However, as of the latest updates, all efforts to reach them have been unsuccessful, as they have disappeared from the area, adding further mystery to an already perplexing case. The authorities are urging anyone with further information about the incident to come forward, while they continue to trace the financial links that could uncover the truth behind the missing 10 million baht. -- 2025-03-04

The crash left her husband and two young daughters critically injured. The incident occurred at around 16:00 on 3 March, on Highway 331 (Chachoengsao–Sattahip) in Bang Lamung District, near a police checkpoint in Khao Mai Kaew. Police from Huai Yai Station and rescue teams from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation in Pattaya responded to the scene. At the crash site, a red Honda Wave motorcycle was found, with debris scattered across the road. Around 200 metres away, officers located a white six-wheeled Hino lorry with minor damage to its side. Rescue workers discovered three severely injured victims: • Mr. Warathip Saenear (31) suffered a deep head wound exposing the skull. • Min (4) was semi-conscious, with a broken right arm and multiple abrasions. • May (2) had abrasions and was crying uncontrollably. All three were rushed to Phatthamakun Hospital for emergency treatment. Miss Mone Khampaseuth (30), a Lao national and the children’s mother, was found dead at the scene. She was eight months pregnant, and the impact of the crash had torn the unborn from her body, ending about a metre away from her body. Witnesses were left in shock at the horrific sight. The lorry driver, Mr. Sonthana Sanguanrat (62), remained at the scene, visibly shaken. He admitted to police that he was returning to a factory after making a delivery in Chonburi when he suddenly lost consciousness. The lorry veered into the motorcycle, carrying the family of four, and ran over the pregnant woman. Eyewitness accounts corroborated this, stating that the family was riding normally when the lorry driver unexpectedly swerved into them, causing them to lose control. CCTV footage from a nearby motorcycle repair shop captured the crash in detail and will serve as crucial evidence in the case. Police have detained Mr. Sonthana for further questioning and are conducting a thorough investigation. Charges will be filed accordingly. -- 2025-03-04

The victim, who had recently enrolled at a well-known vocational college, was gunned down just 100 metres from his residence. The fatal shooting occurred at around 20:00 on 3 March, in Soi Borommaratchachonnani 78, Lane 4, Thawi Watthana district. Police from Thammasala Station, forensic teams, and rescue workers responded to the scene. The victim, identified as Mr. Phongsakorn “Pure” (29), was found lying on his back in a grassy area near the roadside. He had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the right temple, with the bullet exiting through his left. Near his body, police found his black Honda PCX motorcycle (registration from Bangkok), which had toppled over. His yellow crash helmet bore a bullet hole, and his black shoulder bag was collected as evidence. Eyewitnesses reported hearing the sound of two motorcycles chasing each other, followed by two gunshots. Initially, they assumed the victim had lost control and crashed into a fence, but upon closer inspection discovered the gunshot wound and immediately alerted the authorities. Police suspect that the victim was ambushed while riding home and attempted to flee but was shot in the head, with the bullet piercing his helmet. Detectives are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to trace the shooter’s escape route. The motive remains unclear, but police are investigating whether the attack was linked to vocational college rivalries, as the victim had enrolled at a well-known technical institute in Pathumwan just one month prior. According to his close friends, the victim had been frequently attending college in recent weeks, but it was unclear if he had been involved in any disputes.. Authorities are continuing their investigation and pursuing the gunman, who remains at large. -- 2025-03-04

Picture courtesy of DMCR. A cargo ship towing barges, carrying cement collided with a coral reef near Koh Talu in Prachuap Khiri Khan, causing severe damage after rough seas led to the failure of its anchor chain. On March 2, the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) received a report from local conservation networks that a cement cargo ship travelling from Bangkok to Pattani had run into difficulties due to strong winds and rough seas. In an attempt to seek shelter, the crew anchored near Koh Talu in Bang Saphan Noi district. However, the towing chain of the barge snapped, causing three barges to drift uncontrollably and crash into coral reefs and rocky outcrops, leading to significant environmental damage. The Prachuap Khiri Khan Regional Marine Office has taken action by summoning the ship’s crew for questioning and coordinating with the relevant authorities to assess the damage. The Marine Resources Conservation Centre in Prachuap Khiri Khan is working with the Central Gulf of Thailand Marine and Coastal Resources Research Centre to conduct a detailed survey of the affected coral reef. The collected data will be used to assess the full extent of the damage and support legal claims for compensation to restore the marine environment. Authorities have detained the vessel responsible for the incident, and legal proceedings are expected to follow to ensure accountability for the environmental impact. -- 2025-03-04

Myanmar Fishing Vessel Seized for Illegally Entering Thai Waters Authorities in Ranong have seized a Myanmar-registered fishing vessel and detained six crew members after the boat was found trespassing in Thai waters near Ko Chang. Picture courtesy of RTN. Authorities in Ranong have seized a Myanmar-registered fishing vessel and detained six crew members after the boat was found trespassing in Thai waters near Ko Chang. The vessel raised multiple suspicions, leading officials to believe it may have been involved in illegal activities. On March 2, Vice Admiral Suwat Donsakul, Commander of the Third Naval Area Command and Director of the Maritime Security Command for the region, received a report from the 451st Air and Coastal Defence Unit (NPSR 451) on Koh Chang. Officials had detected an unidentified fishing boat intruding 3.2 nautical miles into Thai waters, west of Ko Chang. In response, Lieutenant Commander Apiphat Sirikhong, captain of patrol boat T.993, was ordered to investigate and apprehend the vessel. The patrol boat eventually located the suspicious fishing vessel 4.5 nautical miles south of Koh Sin Hai, well within Thai territorial waters. Upon closer inspection, the vessel, named Annawar Min 999, was confirmed to be Myanmar-flagged but was operating without displaying a national flag and lacked navigational radar. The crew consisted of six Myanmar nationals, but curiously, no fishing equipment was found onboard. The vessel’s interior was empty, with no storage for fish or ice, further raising suspicions. Authorities noted that the boat closely resembled another vessel intercepted by the Third Naval Area Command in February under similar circumstances. This led them to suspect the vessel may have been engaged in unlawful activities before being intercepted. The patrol boat escorted Annawar Min 999 and its crew to Ranong Deep-Sea Port, arriving at 10:45. At the dock, Captain Traichak Sasathatham, head of the Ranong Port Security Control Centre, along with officers from the Third Naval Area Command and various security agencies, initiated a thorough investigation. Officials from the Maritime Security Command and the Thai-Myanmar Border Fisheries Coordination Centre have begun questioning the crew to determine why they had crossed into Thai waters. Initial assessments suggest the vessel may have been involved in illegal operations, given the numerous suspicious factors. On the morning of March 3, a multi-agency inspection team conducted a detailed search of the vessel, with forensic specialists from Ranong Province collecting evidence. Authorities have vowed to take further legal action as necessary. -- 2025-03-04
