  2. Picture from responders. A dramatic road crash in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya on the morning of 3 March, saw a teacher lose control of his vehicle after reportedly blacking out behind the wheel. The crash resulted in significant damage to multiple vehicles and a roadside house, though miraculously, no serious injuries were reported. The incident occurred on the ring road in Moo 5, Pratu Chai subdistrict. The driver, a male teacher aged 50 from a local school, was on his way to work when he suddenly lost consciousness. As a result, his pickup truck veered off course and crashed into a passenger van parked on the roadside, waiting to pick up passengers. The impact caused the van to hit a red car parked nearby before the pickup continued forward, ultimately colliding with a house. The force of the crash left the teacher’s vehicle overturned and heavily damaged. Eyewitnesses immediately called emergency services, who arrived promptly to rescue the teacher from his overturned vehicle. Fortunately, he regained consciousness and only suffered minor scrapes and bruises on his arms and body. The driver of the damaged passenger van recounted the frightening moment, explaining that he had parked on the roadside to pick up passengers. “I was waiting with my van parked when suddenly the pickup crashed into the back of my vehicle. It then slammed into the red car beside me before hitting the house. It was a terrifying moment, but thankfully, no one was seriously hurt.” Police from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya station responded to the scene and began their investigation. The teacher was questioned about the circumstances leading to the crash, though initial reports indicate no alcohol was detected in his system. Authorities will proceed with legal action in accordance with the law. -- 2025-03-04

  4. Picture from responders. A 42-year-old man was found dead from a gunshot wound in a village cemetery in Chiang Rai province, close to the resting place of his mother’s ashes. The deceased had told relatives he was going to a hospital but never arrived. Authorities from Wiang Pa Pao Police Station were alerted on the morning of 3 March, to the discovery by Mr. Inchan Chai-in, the village head of Ban Pong Thewi in Wiang Pa Pao district. Officers, led by Police Colonel Narit Kerddee, arrived at the scene to investigate. The victim, identified as Mr. Somkit Jaisamoe, a resident of Ban Pong Thewi, was found with a fatal head wound caused by a homemade long-barrel gun. The weapon was still at the scene, with an empty casing lodged in the chamber. The force of the gunshot had caused severe injuries, scattering bone fragments and brain matter over a 20-metre radius. According to Mr. Inchan, the victim had been suffering from chronic health issues, including gout. He had been scheduled for a hospital visit the previous day but had failed to attend. The first person to discover the body was a fellow villager who had come to the cemetery to help clean the area in preparation for a funeral. Mr. Somkit’s younger brother, Mr. Somnuek, 31, provided further details, describing his brother as a hardworking man who had never married. He worked as a labourer and was the primary caregiver for their 71-year-old bedridden father. Before leaving home on the day of his death, Mr. Somkit had left his gold necklace and approximately 40,000 baht in cash at his father’s bedside. Police have collected evidence and taken statements from witnesses and family members. The preliminary investigation suggests the possibility of suicide, possibly linked to stress from personal and health-related issues. However, the body will undergo an autopsy to confirm the cause of death. If no foul play is suspected, the remains will be released to the family for funeral rites. 8. Picture captured of the songthaew from CCTV. Police in Udon Thani have arrested a 31-year-old man who used a screwdriver to take a 12-year-old girl hostage before hijacking a songthaew. The suspect, who later turned himself in, claimed he was hallucinating from drug use and feared he was being pursued. The incident occurred at approximately 15:25 on March 2, when a man armed with a screwdriver boarded a songthaew operating on the Udon Thani–Nong Wua So route. Near Ban Pak Dong in Nikom Songkroh, Mueang Udon Thani district, he took the young girl hostage, handcuffed her, and ordered the driver to take him to an isolated area near Ban Nikom 1. He then stole more than 2,000 baht in cash and fleeing with the vehicle, leaving the driver and girl behind. Police from Huai Luang Station launched an immediate search, and by 19:30, they located the abandoned songthaew in a wooded area near Ban Nong O, Nong O subdistrict, Nong Wua So district. However, the suspect was nowhere to be found. By March 3, investigators from Kud Chap Police Station received word that the suspect had surrendered. Identified as Bird, a 31-year-old resident of Suwannakhuha district in Udon Thani, he was taken into custody. Officers later searched his rented room at a resort in Kud Chap district, where they recovered key evidence, including a 30cm screwdriver, a pair of handcuffs, and a sharp pair of scissors. The suspect led police to a sugarcane field near Ban Nong O, where he had discarded his clothing, the songthaew driver’s bag, and other items before abandoning the vehicle. CCTV footage from earlier in the day showed Bird walking through a community in Udon Thani city before heading towards the Udon-Kud Chap bypass, where he is believed to have flagged down the songthaew he later hijacked. During questioning, Bird admitted to the crime, stating that he had not planned it in advance. He claimed he had been high on methamphetamine and was paranoid that a car following him was attempting to kill him. Believing his life was in danger, he took the girl hostage and hijacked the vehicle to escape. Bird stated that he had consumed around ten methamphetamine pills before the incident. He insisted he had no intention of selling the stolen vehicle and only wanted to flee what he thought was a threat to his life. He had previously worked as a security guard in Suwannakhuha but had fallen into drug addiction and financial difficulties after his girlfriend left him. According to Deputy Superintendent Manit Kaewcharoen of Mueang Udon Thani Police Station, after abandoning the songthaew, Bird walked approximately three kilometres. Along the way, he found clothing near a farm hut and changed into them, leaving his old clothes in the sugarcane field. He then reached the banks of the Huai Luang Reservoir, where he encountered a local villager. Pretending to be a victim of an attack, he convinced the villager to ferry him across the water in a boat. Once on the other side, Bird flagged down another car and continued his escape to Kud Chap district, where he purchased new clothes at a local market. He then checked into a resort for 400 baht per night. After seeing news reports about himself on television, he panicked and feared for his safety, eventually asking the resort owner to help him surrender to the police. Police revealed that Bird had at least five outstanding arrest warrants for theft, including a motorcycle theft on February 15 in Chum Phae, Khon Kaen province. He had allegedly sold the stolen vehicle to buy methamphetamine before fleeing to Udon Thani. Authorities have charged him with robbery and drug-related offences, with further charges likely as the investigation continues. -- 2025-03-04

The victim suffered gunshot wounds to his left cheek, while his vehicle was riddled with gunshot holes. At approximately 02:20 police received a report of a shooting on a frontage road in Moo 2, Tha Mi Ram subdistrict, Mueang district, Phatthalung. Officers from Mueang Phatthalung Police Station, led by Police Lieutenant Sommai Kuesuk, rushed to the scene. They discovered a bullet-ridden MG car parked on the roadside. The car had sustained 16 impact holes, seven on the driver’s side windscreen and nine on the rear door. The left front tyre was also punctured. In the middle of the road divider, police found a spent casing which was collected as evidence. The victim was taken to Phatthalung Hospital after suffering two gunshot wounds to the left cheek. Fortunately, none of his four friends in the car, nor another friend following on a motorcycle, were injured. According to initial statements, the group was driving toward Phatthalung city when a pickup truck pulled alongside them and suddenly opened fire. Despite the attack, the driver managed to maintain control of the vehicle and his friends were able to call for help. The victim believes the attackers were part of the same group responsible for another shooting in Phatthalung the previous night, in which another 16-year-old was wounded. Authorities will question all witnesses and examine possible motives, including personal disputes or gang-related violence. -- 2025-03-03

Witnesses reported that after the crash, the pickup driver immediately sped away, heading towards the Ban Li-Makham Lom Road. Eyewitnesses, including a municipal firefighter, reported seeing sparks flying from beneath the speeding pickup truck. The motorcycle’s exhaust pipe had become lodged under the vehicle. The firefighter, along with emergency responders from the Semor Gun Rescue Foundation, pursued the fleeing driver. About five kilometres from the initial crash, at a curve near Ban Don Krabuang Bridge in Bang Phlap subdistrict, the pickup driver lost control, crashed into the bridge railing, and plunged into the canal. The vehicle was completely wrecked, and the driver was found trapped inside. Rescue workers used floodlights and hydraulic cutting tools to extricate the driver, a process that took over an hour. The deceased was identified as 53-year-old Somphong, a resident of Wiset Chai Chan district in Ang Thong province. Somphong’s relatives arrived at the scene and were overcome with grief, with one family member fainting and requiring medical assistance. Before the crash, he had driven from Kanchanaburi after picking up footballs for delivery to Ayutthaya. While driving through Bang Li Market, he collided with Sarawut and his son but fled the scene. His reckless escape attempt ended when he crashed at high speed and died in the wreckage. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. -- 2025-03-03

A 49-year-old man from Chonburi is in a critical condition after stabbing himself in the neck with a kitchen knife following an argument with his wife about eating before drinking. At approximately 14.30 on 2 March, police from Mueang Chonburi Police Station received a report of a self-inflicted stabbing incident at a house in Ban Suan Subdistrict, Mueang Chonburi District. Emergency responders from the Thammarassamee Maneerat Foundation were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, rescue personnel found Mr Prayoon, 49, unconscious and lying on the floor. According to the victim’s wife, her husband was preparing to go out drinking with friends when she suggested he eat first, as she had just finished cooking. She explained that she was concerned for his well-being, but her husband became upset and frustrated, saying he wanted to die simply because he was being asked to eat first. He then reportedly took a sharp knife from the kitchen and stabbed himself in the neck in an apparent act of distress. The police have confirmed that they will conduct a further investigation once the man’s condition stabilises to determine the cause of the incident and whether any legal action is required. -- 2025-03-03

A woman and her nephew rescued a man they believed to be drowning in a roadside canal in Buriram province, only to realise in shock that he had been dead for at least two days. At around 12:00 on 2 March, Pol. Lt. Anusorn Yontsatitkul, an investigative officer at Prakhon Chai Police Station, received a report from locals about a drowning victim found in a canal along the Buriram-Prakhon Chai road, approximately two kilometres from Prakhon Chai town. Police officers, along with rescue teams from Sawang Janyatham Foundation and Ban Song Mueang Rescue, arrived at the scene. The water in the roadside canal was approximately two metres deep. Near the edge of the canal, they discovered the body of a man later identified as Mr Mee 63. His body showed no visible signs of violence, and his fishing equipment and motorcycle were found nearby. Authorities estimated that he had been deceased for about two days, as his body had already begun to emit a strong odour, with signs of decomposition. Ms Jim 51, was the first to discover the body. She recounted that she and her nephew had gone fishing, when she noticed strands of hair floating on the water’s surface. Suspecting someone was drowning, she asked her nephew to pull the person out. Believing there was still a chance to save him, they laid the body face-up and began performing CPR. After about four or five chest compressions, water gushed out from the man’s mouth, accompanied by an overwhelming foul smell. Within moments, swarms of flies appeared, making her realise that he had been dead for some time. Police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of death. The body has been sent for an autopsy to confirm the time and circumstances of his passing. However, initial findings suggest there was no foul play. -- 2025-03-03

  18. UPDATE Former Muay Thai Fighter Arrested for Mother’s Murder After Traffic Stop Picture courtesy of Khoasod. A fugitive former Muay Thai fighter who allegedly killed his own mother has been arrested after a routine traffic stop in Nakhon Pathom. The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Nattapol, was caught when he rode through a police checkpoint without wearing a helmet, leading officers to question him and ultimately uncover his shocking crime. The case has horrified the community in Trang province, where the crime took place on 1 March. Nattapol, reportedly a drug addict, is accused of fatally punching and beating his mother, Sudarat, 46, inside their home in Koh Tiao village, Yan Ta Khao district. Following the attack, he allegedly posted a chilling image on Facebook posing with his mother’s lifeless body, mockingly referring to himself as the Grim Reaper. His younger sister, 23-year-old Suthathip, expressed her devastation, revealing that their mother had always loved and supported her brother despite his troubled past. She also disclosed that Nattapol had previously served time in prison. After committing the crime, Nattapol fled on a Honda Wave 110 motorbike (registration from Trang). Authorities tracked his movements and later found that he had been spotted in Phra Samut Chedi, Samut Prakan, where a concerned citizen recorded a video of him. In the clip, Nattapol claimed he was heading to Trat province but only had 100 baht left. The kind-hearted local provided him with food and fuel, unaware of his criminal background. In a bizarre turn of events, instead of continuing his escape, Nattapol made his way to Nakhon Pathom, where he was stopped at a routine traffic checkpoint early on 2 March for not wearing a helmet. Officers noticed his erratic behaviour and a Trang licence plate on his vehicle. When questioned, he spoke incoherently, raising further suspicion. A quick investigation confirmed his identity as a wanted murder suspect, leading to his immediate arrest. During initial questioning, Nattapol reportedly gave confused responses, stating that he had been in Samut Prakan the night before and was trying to get to Trat but did not know the route. His erratic journey ultimately led him into police custody in Nakhon Pathom. -- 2025-03-03

  22. Picture from responders. A delivery driver lost his life, and another person was injured when he lost control of his pickup truck and crashed into a parked vehicle and a pedestrian bridge in Samut Prakan. At approximately 13:30 on 2 March, police from Samrong Tai Police Station received a report of a serious road crash on Pu Chao Saming Phrai Road, heading from Phra Pradaeng Pier towards Samrong. The incident occurred near the Isuzu factory in Moo 3, Samrong Klang, Phra Pradaeng District, Samut Prakan. Emergency responders from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, along with rescue equipment, were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a black Ford Ranger pickup truck, registration from Bangkok, overturned on its left side near the pedestrian bridge. The vehicle’s front and left side were completely wrecked. Inside, rescue workers found the body of 56-year-old Surasak Boonwasana, a delivery truck driver, trapped in the wreckage with severe head injuries. His body had to be extracted using cutting equipment. Nearby, a Yamaha NMAX motorcycle, registration from Bangkok, and a Honda Wave motorcycle, registration from Bangkok, were both damaged, along with the front glass of a barbershop. About 50 metres away at a U-turn, officers found a silver Isuzu D-Max pickup truck, registration from Bangkok, with extensive damage to its rear. Inside this vehicle was 31-year-old Lapatsarada Prathan, who suffered minor injuries. She had been sitting in the passenger seat while her husband and son were inside the barbershop. Emergency responders provided first aid before transferring her to a nearby hospital. CCTV footage captured the moment the black pickup truck, driven by the deceased, was travelling at high speed in the right lane before suddenly swerving left. It then slammed into the parked Isuzu pickup truck near the pedestrian bridge. Sunthorn Ponglun, 32, a witness, stated:“I was sitting by the road, when I saw the truck speeding past. It looked like the driver blacked out. He was in the right lane but suddenly swerved left and crashed into the parked pickup truck. A woman was inside that vehicle, but luckily she wasn’t badly hurt.” Chanaphisitha Tripornphun, 50, the barbershop owner whose motorcycles were damaged, described the impact:“I was cutting a customer’s hair when I heard a sound like an explosion. When I turned around, I saw the truck nearly hitting the pedestrian bridge. The glass at the front of my shop shattered, and both my motorcycles were destroyed. The driver must have been going over 100 km/h.” Warin Dechchai, 38, the owner of the parked Isuzu pickup truck, recounted:“I had just taken my son to the barbershop and left my wife waiting in the car. Less than ten minutes later, I heard a loud bang, like a tyre exploding. I ran out and saw my wife dazed with a small head wound. I was terrified something had happened to her. In my truck.” Sukchin Tama, 69, a friend of the deceased, speculated that alcohol may have been a factor:“Before the accident, he invited me to go home to Saraburi with him, as we often travelled together. But today, I decided not to go. Not long after, I heard about the crash. I suspect he was drunk because when he visited my house earlier, he seemed intoxicated. He didn’t have any underlying health issues but drank regularly. We had been friends for 13 years and worked as truck drivers together. He never married and often returned to Saraburi.” Police have taken initial photographs and logged the details of the crash. CCTV footage will be reviewed in further detail to confirm the cause. The deceased’s body has been sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the Police General Hospital for an autopsy. -- 2025-03-03

Mr Warayuth told police that Mr Chamnarn had previously threatened him and even attempted to attack him inside his home, possibly under the influence of drugs. He had reported the earlier incident to Rattaphum Police but tensions between them continued. On the morning of the shooting, he said he only stopped to talk but panicked when Mr Chamnarn raised the machete, prompting him to fire in self-defence. Local residents reported hearing multiple gunshots and, upon investigating, found Mr Warayuth standing with the gun in his hand while Mr Chamnarn lay motionless on the ground. However, they were too afraid to intervene. Authorities called in a rescue diving team from the Mitraphap Samakkhi Foundation in Hat Yai and Rattaphum Rescue to search the canal where Mr Warayuth claimed to have discarded the weapon, but it has yet to be recovered. Mr Warayuth has been charged with murder, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, and carrying a firearm in public without proper authorisation. -- 2025-03-03
