Pictures courtesy of TMN Pattaya police are searching for two foreign men who fled the scene of a motorcycle crash in Jomtien late night on August 11, leaving three people injured. The collision occurred at around 23.50 on Jomtien Second Road, towards Sukhumvit Road. Emergency responders from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Foundation were dispatched to assist the injured. At the scene, officers found a black Honda PCX motorcycle, registration from Chonburi, lying damaged in the middle of the road. The rider, 17-year-old Paramin Charoensap, suffered head wounds and facial injuries and appeared dazed. His passenger, 20-year-old Rungtawan Chansuk, sustained a head injury and multiple abrasions. Nearby, another motorcycle, a Honda ADV with registration from Chonburi, was found damaged. A large clear zip-lock bag containing cannabis was discovered at the crash site. The pillion passenger, 19-year-old Omsap Surinram, was injured, but the foreign rider and another foreign passenger immediately walked away from the scene. Witnesses told police the PCX was travelling straight when it made a U-turn at a pedestrian crossing, moments before the ADV, carrying three people, including the two foreigners, slammed into its side. Ms Omsap said she had been riding between the two foreign men, who she didn’t name, when the collision happened. Both men left her injured on the road and disappeared before help arrived. Investigators from Pattaya City Police’s Dong Tan substation collected evidence at the scene and are reviewing CCTV footage to determine the cause of the crash and track down the foreign riders for questioning. Pictures courtesy of Khaosod. A pickup truck driver was killed and four passengers, including a six-year-old child, were injured after a lorry ran a red light and ploughed into their vehicle in Dok Khamtai district on the evening of 11 August. Emergency services were called to the scene at the Phra Ubalee Road junction, where they found the pickup wedged beneath the lorry, registration from Phetchabun, which had reportedly jumped the traffic signal at high speed. Rescue workers used hydraulic cutting equipment to free four injured occupants trapped inside the wrecked pickup. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured, one of them a young child, were rushed to hospital for treatment. Survivors told police they had been travelling from San Khong in Dok Khamtai towards Phayao city to have dinner when they stopped at a red light. The lorry, they said, approached at high speed without braking, slamming into the rear of their vehicle and driving over it. Initial police investigations suggest the lorry driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel. He has been taken into custody for questioning and faces legal action. Picture from CCTV courtesy of Amarin A senator charged with robbing the corpse of a car crash victim in 2021 is now facing a potential ethics probe by the Senate, it was reported on 11 August. Bang Pakong police in Chachoengsao province have filed charges with the Attorney General and the Criminal Court against the unnamed senator, who allegedly stole valuables from the body of a man killed when his car overturned on the Bang Na Expressway, about a kilometre from Bang Wua subdistrict, at 23:50 on 31 May 2021. The incident was caught on CCTV. Rescuers arriving at the scene found good bystanders already assisting the injured. The deceased’s family later reported seven missing items worth around 2 million baht, including two mobile phones, a pair of designer glasses, a Louis Vuitton bag, an eight-baht-weight gold necklace, a gold-framed amulet and 120,000 baht in cash. Police reviewing the CCTV footage saw a truck stop near the crash site, with two men exiting to help. One of them was identified as the senator. He later admitted to stealing from the victim, returning only the Louis Vuitton bag and one mobile phone. The senator has a history of legal troubles. In 2011, he was fined for operating an illegal lottery in Chonburi. In 2016, he was prosecuted for owning a fishing vessel without a legally required tracking system. Earlier this year, a woman accused him of sexual harassment. Despite these allegations, the Election Commission has stated that the senator may continue performing his duties because the corpse robbery case is still ongoing and his previous convictions do not disqualify him from holding office. The Senate’s ethics committee is now expected to consider whether his actions breach the upper chamber’s code of conduct. Adapted by Asean Now from Amarin 2025-08-12- 53 replies

Picture courtesy of Daily News. Border patrol soldiers arrested a 46-year-old man from Sierra Leone attempting to cross illegally into Cambodia on foot. The man confessed he had paid nearly 18,000 baht to human traffickers as he wanted to return urgently to his home country following a family bereavement, but was abandoned midway through the journey. At around 23:00 on 10 August, Colonel Chainarong Kasee, commander of the Aranyaprathet task force under the Eastern Military Command, ordered troops from Ranger Company 1206 and the 2nd Infantry Battalion, Royal Guard Regiment to patrol their area after receiving intelligence about suspected illegal border crossings. Officers found the suspect walking along a dark rural road near the agricultural border area of Ban Kud Hin village, Khlong Nam Sai subdistrict, Aranyaprathet district, heading toward Cambodia. He was stopped and detained. The man, later identified as Kamaria Mohamed, had no valid identification documents. Through an interpreter, Kamaria told investigators he first entered Thailand illegally in 2023 and worked selling goods at Pratunam Market in Bangkok. Recently, he received news that a family member had died in Sierra Leone, prompting his urgent desire to return home, via Cambodia. He arranged with an African acquaintance in Cambodia and local guides to help him cross the border unlawfully. Kamaria said he paid an advance of $150 and was to pay an additional $400 upon arrival. However, on the day of crossing, the guides switched vehicles multiple times and abandoned him in a sugarcane field behind Ban Kud Hin, telling him to wait for a pickup that never came. After waiting, he decided to find his own way, but was apprehended by authorities. Following his arrest, Kamaria was handed over to Khlong Nam Sai police for legal proceedings and to clarify his story. Adapted by Asean Now from Daily News 2025-08-12 -

Ruangkrai Asks NACC to Probe PM Over Shares, Land Claims Picture courtesy of Amarin Ruangkrai Leekitwattana, political activist, has filed a petition with the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) seeking an investigation into whether suspended Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra violated constitutional and ethical standards by serving as a director and shareholder in Thames Valley Khao Yai Hotel Co., Ltd. Full story:https://aseannow.com/topic/1369465-ruangkrai-asks-nacc-to-probe-pm-over-shares-land-claims/ -
Picture courtesy of Amarin Ruangkrai Leekitwattana, political activist, has filed a petition with the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) seeking an investigation into whether suspended Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra violated constitutional and ethical standards by serving as a director and shareholder in Thames Valley Khao Yai Hotel Co., Ltd. Ruangkrai cited Section 89(2) of the Thai Constitution, which stipulates that a prime ministerial nominee must not possess any prohibited characteristics under Section 160. Section 160(4) and (5) require ministers to be “manifestly honest” and to refrain from “serious breaches of ethical standards.” According to official documents, Paetongtarn paid for her shares in the company on 10 October 2013, investing 199,999,990 baht, and as of 24 April 2024, held 19,999,999 shares, around 50% of the company’s registered capital. The business operates on four land plots in Moo Si subdistrict, Pak Chong district, Nakhon Ratchasima. The plots were originally documented as Nor Kor 3 (N.K.3) land, later converted to Nor Sor 3 Kor (N.S.3 Kor) titles. Ruangkrai alleges that these plots may be part of a watershed area as defined by a 25 May 1971 Cabinet resolution. He referred to a previous NACC ruling against land officials for issuing title deeds in a similar nearby area. If the company’s land is indeed classified as watershed, he argues, title deeds could not lawfully have been issued, potentially rendering Paetongtarn ineligible under Section 89(2) at the time of her nomination as prime minister. He further claims that despite having raised the matter with the Interior Ministry, no action was taken, prompting him to escalate the matter to the NACC. He has asked the commission to determine whether Paetongtarn’s past role as shareholder and director constitutes a constitutional breach, a serious ethical violation under clauses 8, 17 and 27, and to consider petitioning the Supreme Court to remove her from office. If found guilty, Paetongtarn could face permanent disqualification from political office under Section 235 of the Constitution, lose her eligibility to stand for election and be stripped of her voting rights for 10 years. Picture courtesy of SiamNews A heartbreaking scene unfolded on the morning of 11 August, at a factory in Uthai district, Ayutthaya, when a newborn baby boy was found abandoned and lifeless in a plastic bin inside the women’s restroom. The infant, estimated to be born at 8 to 9 months’ gestation, was discovered at around 11:30 by factory staff. Police Lieutenant Colonel Pallop Intharaset from Uthai Police Station was alerted to the scene, where the baby’s body lay covered with sanitary pads and blood-stained tissue paper. The infant was fully developed with all physical characteristics but showed no signs of life. The umbilical cord was still attached, indicating the baby had been born very recently before being callously discarded. Rescue teams from the Ayutthaya Ruamjai Rescue Foundation and Ayutthaya Emergency Services responded, carefully recovering the infant and transporting him to Uthai Hospital for a preliminary autopsy. Authorities aim to confirm the exact age and cause of death. Police are cooperating with factory management to review personnel records and CCTV footage near the restroom to identify the mother and uncover the circumstances behind this incident. The discovery has deeply shaken staff and emergency responders alike, many moved to tears, particularly given that the following day is Thailand’s National Mother’s Day, a time when families nationwide honour the love and sacrifices of mothers. This newborn never had the chance to open his eyes or feel the warmth of a mother’s embrace. Adapted by Asean Now from SiamNews 2025-08-12

Pictures courtesy of Khaosod. Owner of a beauty shop in Ayutthaya was left terrified when a large monitor lizard crashed through the ceiling and landed in the middle of the store after days of unexplained noises above. The incident occurred at Lady Beauty Rojana, Village 2, Sam Ruean subdistrict, Bang Pa-in district, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. CCTV footage captured the moment the hefty reptile fell through the ceiling, prompting the shop owner to call Ayutthaya Ruam Jai Rescue Association for help. Specialist snake and reptile handlers arrived to find damage to the rear storage area, with sections of ceiling broken and scattered. The monitor lizard had hidden among stacks of boxes, forcing rescuers to carefully remove them one by one. Once discovered, the animal put up a fierce struggle, managing to wriggle free and dash through the front of the shop, causing the owner to leap away in panic. A chaotic chase ensued before rescuers managed to grab hold of it again. Even then, it resisted violently and it took more than 30 minutes to subdue the lizard. It was eventually secured in a sack and released back into the wild. The shop owner said she had heard noises above the ceiling for several days but never imagined it was a monitor lizard. It wasn’t until the middle of the night, when part of the ceiling gave way, that she checked the CCTV footage and saw the creature fall, deciding to wait until morning to call for help. The Crime Suppression Division (CSD) of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has arrested a former employee accused of forging legal documents and embezzling more than 13 million baht from her employer. On 10 August, Pol Lt Gen Jiraphop Puridej, Commander of the CIB, assigned Pol Maj Gen Wittaya Sriprasertphap, Commander of the Crime Suppression Division and his team to apprehend Ms Kritporn, also known as Natthaphan, aged 36. She was arrested on a Pattaya Provincial Court warrant (No. จ.439/2568 dated 30 July 2025) on charges of document forgery, using forged documents, embezzlement, fraud and theft from an employer. The arrest took place on Phonprapanmit Road, Pattaya. Picture courtesy of CH7. A 64-year-old man has died after being struck on the head by a dislodged excavator bucket tooth while observing construction work in Mueang Buriram district. The incident occurred at around 13:00 on 10 August near Lam Huai Samor in Sa Kae Sam subdistrict. Mr. Saneh, a resident of Sa Lang Thon in Prakhon Chai district, had gone to watch a backhoe installing water pipes when the machine operator extended the arm to break obstructing tree branches. A bucket tooth, weighing about four kilograms, reportedly came loose after a locking bolt failed, flew off and struck him on the head. Emergency responders from the Sa Kae Phrong Subdistrict Administrative Organisation rushed him to Buriram Hospital in critical condition and unconscious. Despite the medical team’s efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on 11 August. His wife, Ms. Saengchan, 51, said she found a large indentation in her husband’s skull when touching his bandaged head at the hospital and believed he must have died at the scene. She called on the backhoe’s owner to take responsibility. His elder brother, Mr. Kaew, 68, added that the deceased was a poor farmer renting land for rice cultivation and also worked as a labourer to support his elderly mother-in-law. He stressed that the family wanted justice and compensation. Police Colonel Chamras Siriliang, superintendent of Mueang Buriram Police Station, has ordered investigators to summon the backhoe owner for questioning on suspicion of negligence causing death. Legal proceedings are now under way. Adapted by Asean Now from CH7 2025-08-12

Pictures courtesy of Matichon. Cybercrime officers issued a warning about a new type of cyberattack known as “Choicejacking,” which targets mobile phones via public charging stations. This advanced form of attack is an evolution of “Juice Jacking,” where hackers use disguised charging devices to trick phones into approving file transfers instead of just charging. The malicious device mimics a USB input to send commands that automatically grant permission for data transfer within milliseconds, often too fast for the user to notice. Some attacks exploit vulnerabilities in certain Android devices using the Android Open Accessory Protocol (AOAP). Once the hackers gain access, they can steal photos, read messages or install harmful software on the device immediately. Cyber police advise the public to avoid using unknown public charging devices found in airports, hotels, cafes and other public areas. Instead, they recommend carrying a personal power bank, plugging devices directly into a power outlet, enabling “charge only” mode and regularly updating software to protect against such threats. The authorities emphasised vigilance in protecting personal data in an increasingly connected world. Adapted by Asean Now from Matichon 2025-08-12
