Picture from responders. A man from Nakhon Ratchasima was found dead in a pond after being missing for two days, triggering a search operation by rescue teams. At approximately 14:00 on the 4th of February, the local police station in Krabi district received a report about a missing person, identified as 49-year-old Mr. Tawee from Moo 3, Cha Sub-district, Krabi District, Nakhon Ratchasima. His family reported that he had been missing since Sunday, February 2nd. On the 4th of February, the family found his shoes and motorcycle parked near a pond, prompting fears that he may have drowned. They immediately alerted local authorities. Rescue workers from the Hook 31 Korat team, alongside a team of underwater rescue divers, arrived at the scene to search for the missing person. The pond, located within the village, had murky water, and surrounding vegetation made the search difficult. The rescue divers, using ropes for safety, began their search underwater. At around 15:05, the team discovered Mr. Tawee’s body. The family of the deceased mentioned that Mr. Tawee had left the house on Sunday, February 2nd, after asking for 100 baht. He had not returned home since then. On February 4th, the family found his personal belongings by the pond and began to worry about the possibility of him drowning. They also expressed concerns about the presence of large monitor lizards in the area that could have caused further harm to his body. Initial investigations suggest that Mr. Tawee might have been swimming or fishing alone in the pond, but the cooler water temperature, may have caused him to suffer from cramps, making it impossible to reach the shore. His family does not suspect foul play, but they have agreed to have the body sent to Krabi Hospital for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death before proceeding with funeral arrangements. -- 2025-02-06

Picture from responders. A 25-year-old Myanmar construction worker was injured on the morning of 5 February, after falling from a scaffold while working on a hotel renovation in Pattaya. The incident occurred at around 11:00 at a hotel located in Arunothai Soi 7, Pattaya, Chonburi. Emergency services from the Sawang Boriboon Pattaya Foundation were alerted to the incident and immediately dispatched a rescue team to the scene. Upon arrival, responders found the worker, identified as Mr. Ith, suffering from injuries after falling approximately 8 metres from the scaffold. He had plunged through the overhanging canopy of the building. The incident is believed to have been caused by a combination of factors, including the use of bamboo scaffolding, which is prone to slipping. Additionally, paint splatters from the worker’s, may have made the surface even more slippery. The worker had been applying paint on the third floor of the hotel, which is undergoing a major renovation. Mr. Ith sustained injuries to his back and head from the fall, though he was fortunate to avoid further injury from surrounding construction materials such as metal fencing and equipment. His colleagues, including other workers and a supervisor, were quick to respond and provide immediate assistance. Emergency responders from the rescue team also administered first aid on-site before transporting him to a nearby hospital for further treatment. The incident is under investigation by the authorities. -- 2025-02-06

Cameroonian Man Arrested in Bangkok for Fake US Dollar Scam A 53-year-old Cameroonian man has been arrested by immigration police for allegedly running a scam selling counterfeit US dollars online. The suspect, identified as Mr. Tenkeu, was caught in a sting operation in Bangkok’s Bang Kapi district. Picture of arrest. A 53-year-old Cameroonian man has been arrested by immigration police for allegedly running a scam selling counterfeit US dollars online. The suspect, identified as Mr. Tenkeu, was caught in a sting operation in Bangkok’s Bang Kapi district. According to the Immigration Bureau’s Investigation Division, authorities had been monitoring the suspect after receiving reports of fraudulent activities. Mr. Tenkeu had allegedly been advertising US dollars for sale online, offering genuine $100 bills at an unbelievable price of just $20 per note. Potential buyers were contacted via the LINE messaging app, where the scammer would send images of real US dollar notes to convince them of the authenticity of the deal. He required customers to pay a 20% deposit before he would “release” the cash. However, once payments were made, the scammer disappeared without delivering the money. To catch the suspect, officers arranged for an undercover agent to contact Mr. Tenkeu via LINE and expressed interest in purchasing $100,000 worth of the advertised US currency, worth $500,000, approximately 17 million Thai baht. The suspect instructed the agent to transfer a 700,000 baht deposit to a Kasikorn Bank account under the name Tenkeu Jexx Juxxx. Instead of transferring the funds, the undercover officer insisted on a face-to-face meeting to verify the authenticity of the dollars before proceeding with the full transaction. Mr. Tenkeu agreed to meet at a hotel in Ramkhamhaeng Soi 22, Hua Mak, Bang Kapi, where he offered to sell a sample batch of $300 for 2,500 baht, which was completed, using fake US dollars. At the agreed time, police officers from Immigration Bureau’s Investigation Division were already stationed at the hotel, monitoring the transaction. When Mr. Tenkeu again attempted to persuade the officer to transfer 700,000 baht to his account, the officer signalled for the police to intervene. Upon arrest, authorities examined Mr. Tenkeu’s passport and searched his belongings. They found 2,500 baht in marked, Thai banknotes, which were used in the sting operation. When questioned, the suspect admitted that he had no real US dollars to deliver and the fake dollars were used tempt buyers in small initial deals. He stated that normally he intended to take the deposit and just disappear. He explained that the few genuine notes he had were only used to deceive victims online. Due to the fraudulent nature of his activities, authorities deemed Mr. Tenkeu a threat to public safety. The Commander of the Immigration Bureau’s Investigation Division revoked his visa and blacklisted him from re-entering Thailand. He will be deported to Cameroon after legal proceedings. The Immigration Bureau urges the public to be cautious when engaging in online financial transactions and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities. -- 2025-02-06

Picture captured from CCTV below. A two-year-old boy had a miraculous escape after he tripped and fell while playing, only to be run over by a car. The incident on 4 February, which occurred in Sri Thep District, Phetchabun Province, was captured on CCTV and later shared on social media. The child, referred to only as “A”, was playing football with other children near a local market when he lost his footing and fell to the ground. A white car approached at the same moment, and despite shouts from other children attempting to alert the driver, the car failed to stop and ran over the toddler. In the footage, the child can be heard crying in distress as bystanders, including his grandmother, rushed to his aid. Emergency responders arrived swiftly and provided first aid before transporting the boy to Sri Thep Hospital. He sustained minor injuries, including bruising and abrasions to his wrist, knee, right shoulder, and forehead. Rescue worker Nattachakichanan Yodsawai, who responded to the scene, confirmed that the incident took place near the Sri Thep bus station market. He urged parents to closely supervise young children, particularly in busy public areas, to prevent similar incidents. The boy’s grandmother, who had taken him to the market, expressed her relief that he was not more seriously injured. She also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant when watching over their children. Picture courtesy of SiamNews. A man has caused damage to his ex-wife’s car in an apparent act of revenge, using a stone to smash the vehicle windows, before leaving threatening messages on the body of the car. The incident occurred in Soi Phiromsuk, South Pattaya, on the afternoon of 4 February. At approximately 15:00, police received a report of a car being vandalised and sent officers to the scene. They arrived to find a blue Honda Brio, with the front windshield shattered and a large stone lodged in it. The hood of the car was scrawled with offensive words, and the passenger-side window had been smashed. Inside the vehicle, police discovered another stone, and further messages, including the word “hell,” were scratched on the side door. The car’s owner, 24-year-old Thananya Khunwiset, was present at the scene and provided a statement to the police. She explained that the perpetrator was her ex-husband, with whom she had broken up four months prior. Thananya had been asleep at home when a friend messaged her to inform her of the damage to her car. Upon arriving at the scene, she was shocked to find the damage. Thananya revealed that during their relationship, her ex-husband frequently used drugs and was physically abusive, though she had never reported these incidents to the authorities. While Thananya was speaking to the press, her ex-husband contacted her via chat, followed by a phone call. During the call, he taunted her, before abruptly hanging up. Thananya has since filed a report at the Pattaya Police Station, and a team of investigators has been assigned to locate and apprehend the suspect to face charges for the incident. -- 2025-02-05

Picture of reenactment. A case of mistaken identity led to the fatal shooting of a village headman in a remote area of Mae Chaem district, Chiang Mai, after a local farmer mistook him for a wild chicken. The suspect, who immediately turned himself in, insists the shooting was accidental. Police from Mae Chaem Station, along with district chief Mr. Surawut Channam and a medical examiner from Theprattana Vajjanukul Hospital, responded on 4 February, to the incident in Ban Pok, Moo 4, Ban Thap subdistrict. The remote location, deep in the forest, required a three-hour journey on foot to reach the scene. Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of Mr. Somsak, 42, the village headman, lying face down approximately 200 metres from a makeshift shelter. He had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the back of the head from a homemade shotgun. The suspect, Mr. Weerapon, 35, was waiting to surrender at the scene. During questioning, he stated that he had gone to guard his farm the previous night, which bordered the village headman’s onion field. Meanwhile, the village headman had also been staying in the area to monitor his crops and watch for potential wildfires. At dawn, both men reportedly heard the sound of a chicken. The headman crouched down to investigate, while Mr. Weerapon, believing he had spotted a wild chicken or a civet, fired his shotgun. When he rushed forward and realised he had shot the village headman, he was overcome with shock. Regaining composure, he climbed a nearby hill to find a mobile signal and called his family, instructing them to notify the police. He waited at the scene until officers arrived, stressing that he had no intention of harming the village headman. Following his confession, police escorted Mr. Weerapon to the site for a crime scene reenactment before taking him into custody. He has been charged with causing death by negligence. The body of the village headman was transported to Theprattana Vajjanukul Hospital for an autopsy before being released to his family. -- 2025-02-05

Picture from responders. A fire at a photocopying business in Sakon Nakhon resulted in the mysterious death of a former Civil Defence volunteer leader. The incident occurred early on the morning of 4 February, when a fire broke out at a three-storey commercial building on Sukkasem Road, Sakon Nakhon. Emergency services received the distress call at around 04:30 and quickly responded. Upon arrival, fire crews found flames engulfing the ground floor of the building, where several photocopy machines were located. Thick black smoke poured from the building, and it took almost an hour for firefighters to bring the blaze under control. After the fire was extinguished, authorities discovered the body of 45-year-old Mr. Phinyo Luedee inside the building. His body showed has suffered severe burns, particularly to his face and upper body, with possible lacerations found on his left cheek. Mr. Luedee’s friend, Mr. Surasak Samakrit, who owned the building, explained that Mr. Luedee had been visiting him that night. The two had planned to go to a religious ceremony together in the morning. Mr. Surasak recalled that they had spent some time talking before going to bed. After about an hour, Mr. Surasak awoke to a strange sensation of heat on his face and saw Mr. Luedee holding a pink towel engulfed in flames, seemingly trying to approach him. In a state of shock, Mr. Surasak fled to the upper floor, leapt out of a window onto a nearby roof, and ran to a neighbouring business to seek help. Firefighters soon arrived and extinguished the flames, but Mr. Luedee was found dead at the scene. Mr. Surasak noted that Mr. Luedee had shown signs of being unwell before the incident, behaving differently than usual, possibly due to doing prolonged periods of solitary meditation in the forest. Mr. Surasak speculated that this may have contributed to Mr. Luedee’s altered state of mind, leading to the incident. The family of Mr. Luedee, however, raised concerns over the circumstances of his death. As a former president of the Civil Defence volunteer group, Mr. Luedee had undergone firefighting training, which led his relatives to question how he could have died in such a manner. Authorities have ordered a thorough investigation and post-mortem examination at Srinakharin Hospital in Khon Kaen to determine the exact cause of death and to clarify the mysterious events surrounding this fire. -- 2025-02-05
