  3. Picture from responders. A violent shooting incident in Pattaya has left multiple people injured after a dispute between two families escalated into gunfire. The altercation, which stemmed from a conflict between two young girls, led to a confrontation between their parents that quickly turned violent. Police Lieutenant Colonel Jirasak Aepfang, an investigator at Nong Prue Police Station, received a report at 22:06 on 2 February, regarding a shooting incident with multiple casualties. The incident occurred along the railway road near Soi Siam Country Club in Bang Lamung district, Chonburi. Upon receiving the report, he informed Police Colonel Tawee Kudthalaeng, Superintendent of Nong Prue Police Station, before rushing to the scene with officers and rescue teams from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation. Emergency responders arrived to find three injured victims. Ms. Panicha Mahaniyom, 36, sustained a gunshot wound to her left arm and required 10 stitches. Mr. Pramot Pudchan, 29, was shot in the right leg, while Ms. Thanyawan Phromthep, 35, suffered a severe gunshot wound to the back of her head. All three were quickly transported to nearby hospitals. Authorities discovered over 10 spent bullet casings scattered across the scene, along with bloodstains trailing along the road. Witnesses, who had fled into nearby woods during the shooting, later emerged to provide statements to the police. Ms. Panicha recounted that both parties had agreed to meet to settle a previous conflict peacefully. The dispute originated from a fight between two young girls, a 13-year-old "Na"and a 14-year-old "Fe", which had already led to a physical altercation. However, Fe's parents insisted on arranging a formal discussion. "When we arrived, we tried to mediate and even suggested resolving the issue with a one-on-one fight," Panicha explained. "But before anything could happen, a group of over ten people from the other side suddenly pulled out firearms and opened fire at us." Dash-cam footage. Ms. Atitaya Obun, 27, another victim, described how she was physically attacked before the gunfire erupted. "I initially got into a fight with the other party, and then a man named Nut kicked me. Suddenly, gunshots rang out-more than ten shots in total. The shooters then fled the scene on motorbikes and in cars." CCTV and dsah-cam footage from a vehicle at the scene captured parts of the altercation, including heated arguments and the moment gunfire erupted. The footage shows the attackers fleeing immediately after the shooting. Lieutenant Colonel Jirasak and his team have gathered evidence, including CCTV recordings, and have identified some of the suspects. Police are currently tracking down those responsible to face legal action. -- 2025-02-03

  7. Picture from responders. An incident unfolded in Chanthaburi when a 67-year-old man drowned while attempting to save his beloved dog from a pond. The dog survived after being rescued by a neighbour, but the owner was later found lifeless at the bottom of the water. At approximately 14:00 on 2 February, Police Captain Thanachet Phromtha, an investigator at Mueang Chanthaburi Police Station, received a report from the Sawang Katanyu Rescue Foundation about a drowning at a pond in an orchard on Soi Chedi 1, Tha Chang subdistrict. Police officers, forensic specialists from Phra Pok Klao Hospital, and rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene. The pond, lined with tarpaulin sheeting, measured around 20 by 20 metres, with water depths ranging between one and two metres. Floating bamboo logs and dense duckweed obscured the visibility of the pond’s bottom, making it difficult to locate the victim. The pond owner later activated a water pump to lower the water level, allowing rescuers to rappel down with ropes to recover the body with great difficulty. The deceased was identified as Mr. Boonmee Chuensonthi, 67. His niece, Ms. Areerat, 55, explained that the incident unfolded when Mr. Boonmee rushed to save his pet dog, Cola, a stray he had adopted a year ago. The dog had wandered too close to the pond, fallen in, and struggled to stay afloat. While Cola managed to stay above water, Mr. Boonmee drowned in his attempt to rescue the animal. The dog was eventually saved by the pond’s owner, but at the time, no one realised that its owner had disappeared beneath the water. Relatives described Mr. Boonmee as a devoted animal lover who had rescued and cared for many stray dogs. He had previously fallen into the water under similar circumstances while saving a dog but had survived. Despite warnings from family members to be more cautious, this time proved fatal. Mr. Chatchaphon, 24, the owner of the pond, recalled discovering the scene. “I came to the orchard in the morning to turn on the water pump and noticed a reddish-brown dog struggling in the water. Nearby, I saw a floating hat and a single boot at the pond’s edge. I thought the dog might have been playing and accidentally fallen in, so I quickly rescued it.” At the time, he had no idea that Mr. Boonmee had already drowned. Later, Mr. Boonmee’s relatives arrived in search of him and recognised his hat, boot, and watering can near the pond. Concerned, they requested assistance from rescuers to check the water. Upon wading in and feeling beneath the surface, they discovered his lifeless body. Authorities have since completed their investigation, and the body has been released to the family for funeral rites. -- 2025-02-03

  9. Picture from responders. A fire at a three-storey commercial building in Lampang’s Mae Tha district on 2 February, claims the life of a father who ensured his three children reached safety before succumbing to the flames. At around 13:00 the local 191 emergency centre received reports of a fire at a shop selling consumer goods in the Kad Mek area, along the Lampang-Mae Tha Road. Firefighters from Khelang Nakhon Municipality and the Lampang Rescue Association were dispatched immediately to battle the blaze. The building, a four-unit structure, housed the shop on the ground floor while the owner’s family resided on the upper floors. The fire is believed to have started on the second floor of two adjoining units, rapidly spreading due to the densely packed commercial and residential area. Firefighters worked urgently to prevent it from spreading further. Initial reports indicate that the owner, a 52-year-old man identified as Mr Chai, was inside the building with his three children, two boys and a girl, aged between 8 and 12, when the fire broke out. Realising the danger, he led them to safety, instructing them to escape to the rooftop and call for help. The children were later rescued by shop employees from an adjoining building and brought to safety, unharmed. However, their father did not make it out. According to the children, their father guided them to the rooftop but did not follow. Instead, they heard him cry out in pain before he disappeared back into the smoke. Firefighters battled the blaze for over an hour before discovering Mr Chai’s body in the charred interior of the building. Authorities believe he may have been overcome by smoke, preventing him from escaping. The police and forensic teams are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the fire. -- 2025-02-03
  10. 11. Picture courtesy of BMA. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has completed repairs on several fireboats and conducted test runs to ensure their engines, water cannons, and emergency response systems are functioning efficiently. Deputy Bangkok Governor Chakkaphan Phiewngam led an inspection at the Borommaratchachonnani Fire and Rescue Station in Bang Phlat District, alongside officials from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), the Mechanical Engineering Division, and the Finance Bureau. The inspection focused on evaluating the effectiveness of the budget allocated for fireboat repairs and maintenance. Mr Chakkaphan confirmed that the Mechanical Engineering Division had successfully completed repairs on multiple fireboats. These included engine system overhauls, fixes to propeller mechanisms, and steering system adjustments. One fireboat, in particular, underwent extensive work, including: • Engine oil system repairs • Replacement of coolant pumps • Installation of a new 200-amp battery • Fixes to electrical, water pump, and propeller systems • Hydraulic engine system repairs Following the repairs, officials conducted a test run from the Borommaratchachonnani Fire and Rescue Station to the Wat Kaeo Fa Chulamanee Pier. During this test, the engine performance was assessed at maximum speed, and the fire suppression system was evaluated. The water cannons, mounted at the front of the vessel, were tested for both long-distance spraying and wide-area dispersal. The results confirmed that all systems were functioning efficiently, allowing the fireboats to be fully operational for firefighting and water rescue missions. The BMA aims to ensure rapid emergency response for residents living along Bangkok’s canals and rivers, where fireboats play a crucial role in firefighting and water-based rescues. The initiative also seeks to optimise budget spending on emergency vehicles, machinery, and equipment, ensuring cost-effective maintenance and efficient use of public funds. So far, four fireboats have been fully repaired and certified for use, while the one remaining boat still undergoing further maintenance and upgrades. -- 2025-02-03

  15. Picture courtesy of Wildlife Rescue Centre. A team of veterinarians and wildlife officers has provided urgent medical treatment to a wild elephant suffering from a severe infection in Khao Ang Rue Nai Wildlife Sanctuary. The injured elephant, a 20-year-old male, was found with an open wound under its belly, with blood and pus continuously oozing from the site. On the evening of 1 February, Ekachai Saendee, head of the Khao Ang Rue Nai Wildlife Sanctuary, was alerted by local residents in Sanam Chai Khet District, Chachoengsao, about a wounded elephant in Suan Pa Sanam Chai. Blood-stained trails were visible in the areas the elephant had passed through. Upon receiving the report, Ekachai coordinated with Matchamon Kaewprueksachai, head of the Wildlife Rescue Centre 2 (Krabok Khu), and Thiti Sonsa, head of the Chachoengsao Wildlife Research Station. More than 20 officers, including veterinarians and staff from the Forest Industry Organisation, were dispatched to provide assistance. An initial examination revealed a deep infected wound approximately 15 cm wide and 4 cm deep near the elephant’s navel. Due to the severity of the infection and continuous discharge of pus, the veterinary team decided to sedate the elephant for immediate treatment. The procedure, which lasted over an hour, involved administering antibiotics to combat infection, pain relief medication, nutritional supplements, and anthelmintics to eliminate parasites. The wound was thoroughly cleaned with saline and antiseptic solution before applying antibiotic cream and wound powder. Additionally, blood samples were collected for further health analysis. The team will continue to monitor the elephant’s condition until the wound has completely healed. Khao Ang Rue Nai Wildlife Sanctuary is one of Thailand’s most important forest reserves, covering over 674,352 rai, across Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Chanthaburi, Rayong, and Sa Kaeo provinces. It is the last remaining lowland forest in the country and provides a vital habitat for wild elephants and other rare wildlife species. The head of the sanctuary urged the public to report any sightings of injured or sick wildlife to authorities immediately. -- 2025-02-03

He was crying loudly and had suffered multiple ant bites across his body. Nearby, authorities found a pair of blood-stained black shorts, believed to belong to the baby’s mother. Fearing the baby might develop an infection, emergency responders rushed him to Ban Dan Hospital for urgent medical care. Mrs Sae Somkul, 75, the villager who discovered the baby, said she had gone to the grove to cut banana leaves when she heard a faint sound, initially mistaking it for a kitten. Upon closer inspection, she found the newborn and immediately alerted the village authorities. Meanwhile, Mrs Kaen Saendee, 67, the owner of the banana grove, stated that she had heard dogs barking at around 04:00 near the site where the baby was later found. She now believes this was the time the child was abandoned. Villagers expressed deep sympathy for the baby, noting that he had been left alone for more than seven hours without food or protection. Fortunately, the grove was close to residential areas, increasing the chances of his survival. A medical examination confirmed that the baby, weighing 2,840 grams, was in good health apart from the ant bites covering his body. 23. Picture courtesy of Siamchon. A violent altercation broke out in central Pattaya early morning on 2 February, as rival groups of youths clashed near Central Beach Festival mall, less than 50 metres from Pattaya City Police Station. The incident escalated when a firearm was discharged, though fortunately, no one was seriously injured. The chaotic scenes unfolded at approximately 02:50, when a group of young men engaged in a heated confrontation that soon turned physical. Eyewitnesses reported that one individual, dressed in a grey shirt and black trousers and carrying a black motorcycle helmet, was seen fleeing for his life. Around ten others pursued him, shouting, "Catch him! He shot my friend!" The chase ended when the fleeing man was cornered and brutally beaten by his pursuers, who punched and kicked him repeatedly. Onlookers, including local residents and tourists, intervened, urging the attackers to stop. The injured man was subsequently handed over to Pattaya police. Nontakan, 22, a key witness and involved party, stated that he had been summoned to the scene by "Nick Paekong" to resolve a dispute. As he stood on the beachfront pavement, his adversaries arrived in a car. One suspect allegedly grabbed him, struck him with a firearm, and fired a shot that narrowly missed his ear. The bullet, however, struck a parked motorcycle, causing damage. Realising the situation was spiralling out of control, Nontakan's friends rushed to his aid. The gunman and his accomplices attempted to flee in their car, leaving one of their associates behind. The stranded man was subsequently overpowered, assaulted, and handed over to police. The apprehended suspect, a 19-year-old identified only as "Wave," was found in possession of a small packet of cannabis. He claimed the meeting was meant to be a peaceful discussion with a former friend, "Ice," who had distanced himself from their group. Wave insisted that he had no prior knowledge of Nick carrying a gun and was unaware that the situation would escalate into violence. By 09:00 Pattaya police had located and detained the suspected gunman, 24-year-old Aniwat, alias "Nick Paekong," at his residence in Nong Ket, Bang Lamung. He admitted to firing the weapon but claimed it was only a homemade firearm. However, police remained sceptical, particularly after discovering damage on the affected motorcycle. Forensic officers from Chonburi Province have been called in to analyse the bullet fragments and gunpowder residue. Meanwhile, both Aniwat and another suspect, "Four," have been charged with attempted murder and assault. They are now in police custody, awaiting legal proceedings. -- 2025-02-03
