UPDATE Picture courtesy of the family. A 28-year-old British holidaymaker has tragically died in a motorbike crash while on holiday in Thailand. Corey Beavis, from Barry, South Wales, was killed in Phuket on Saturday 4 January. Corey’s twin brother, Liam, paid a heartfelt tribute, describing him as his “best friend” and “number one partner in crime”. The family is now trying to raise £35,000 to repatriate Corey’s body to the UK, with over £10,000 donated by well-wishers in less than 24 hours. Liam said: “Every single good memory I have in life is with my brother. We lived life to the fullest, and I’m glad we did it together. Rest easy, big man, see you on the other side. From the womb to the world. “This has changed me forever, but I promise I’ll make you proud. I’ll carry him with me on my journey, smashing it for him like he’d want me to.” Corey’s family also released a tribute, saying: “On Saturday morning, 4 January 2025, we received the devastating news that our beautiful boy lost his life following a motorbike accident. “Corey lit up any room he walked into, with his larger-than-life character and infectious laugh. He was a genuine person with nothing but love for those around him. “He had so much left to give this world but lived a life beyond his wildest imagination. As a family, we have suffered immeasurable loss and now face the heartbreaking task of bringing our boy home to rest. Without travel or life insurance, the costs are unimaginable.” Reports from Thailand suggest that Corey was riding a rented motorbike without a helmet at the time of the crash. A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who has sadly died in Thailand.” The family continues to raise funds for Corey’s repatriation, with an outpouring of support from friends, family, and well-wishers touched by his story. Picture from responders. A fatal workplace incident occurred on January 6 at a company in Moo 6, Bueng Subdistrict, Si Racha District, Chonburi Province, claiming the life of a 22-year-old employee. Emergency services were alerted to the incident at 15:20. Upon arriving at the site, rescuers and medical personnel discovered the victim, identified as Mr Apisit Kulraksa, trapped beneath a heavy load that had fallen from a hand forklift. He had suffered severe crush injuries to his chest and was unconscious with no pulse. Rescue teams immediately, manually lifted and removed the load off the casualties and began life-saving procedures, including CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). Advanced medical support from Somdej Hospital’s emergency response team also provided assistance. Despite their combined efforts, Mr Kulraksa was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Initial reports suggest the load may not have been securely fastened, and the load toppled over slightly. The casualty then tried to push the load upright, when it fell fully onto him and pinned him to the floor. Mr Kulraksa’s body was transported to Laem Chabang Hospital for examination and legal procedures. The victim’s family has been notified, and the company has pledged to provide support during this difficult time. -- 2025-01-07

Picture and video from responders. A devastating fire engulfed Ploy Pla Tu & Pet Mart, a large-scale pet food and supply store in Mae Sai, Chiang Rai, on the evening of 6 January. The blaze caused extensive damage, including the deaths of numerous animals and an estimated financial loss of at least 5 million baht. The fire broke out at approximately 21:00, prompting police from Mae Sai Police Station to coordinate with local firefighting units. Fire engines from Mae Sai Subdistrict Municipality, Mae Sai Mitraphap Municipality, and Wiang Phang Kham Municipality, 15 in total, rushed to the scene. Rescue organisations, including the Siam Ruamjai Foundation and Piyamit Mae Sai Relief Society, also assisted in containing the fire. The fire rapidly consumed the store, located in Moo 6, Ban Pa Yang, Mae Sai subdistrict, due to the large quantities of combustible pet supplies stored within. Firefighters battled the flames for over two hours before successfully preventing the blaze from spreading to neighbouring buildings. Initial inspections revealed significant damage to the building’s structure and the destruction of a wide range of pet products. Tragically, numerous animals, including dogs, cats, rabbits, turtles, and fish, perished in the fire. Only a handful of animals were rescued before the flames intensified. The store’s owner, Mrs. Ratree, was visibly distraught as she watched the tragedy unfold. Overcome with grief for the animals trapped inside, she expressed her deep sorrow for the loss. Preliminary investigations suggest that an electrical short circuit may have caused the fire. However, forensic experts will conduct a detailed investigation to confirm the exact cause. This is not the first disaster to strike Ploy Pla Tu & Pet Mart. The store suffered heavy losses during last year’s severe flooding in Mae Sai, which caused significant damage to its stock of pet food and live animals. The owners had only recently restocked and resumed operations before this fire destroyed the business once again. Authorities are continuing their investigation, while the community has expressed sympathy for the store’s losses and the plight of the animals. -- 2025-01-07 ScreenRecording_01-07-2025 05-39-41_1.mp4

Picture from responders. Police officers from Chaiya Police Station, Surat Thani province, responded on January 6, to a report of two bodies discovered in a canal near Ban Tha Hak Bridge on Pa We Road, Moo 3, Pa We sub-district, Chaiya district. A blue-grey Honda Wave 110i motorcycle was also found next to the irrigation canal, under a bridge. Fragments of the motorcycle were located near the edge of the canal, along with evidence suggesting a crash and skid marks leading to the bridge. Upon further investigation, the bodies of two men were recovered nearby. The deceased were identified as Myanmar nationals, Mr. Aow Ko Piw, aged 21, and Mr. Aung Soe Moe. Both had been dead for approximately four days. Their bloated bodies were found face down, tangled in vegetation along the canal. Initial police assessments indicate that the pair were involved in a motorcycle some days earlier. Evidence suggests the motorcycle struck a tree near the road before veering off the bridge, which stands over 7 metres high, plunging both riders into the canal. Police believe the current carried the bodies approximately one kilometre downstream from the crash site. An irrigation worker who discovered the incident reported noticing the motorcycle under the bridge and, upon closer inspection, found the decomposing bodies nearby. Alarmed by the sight and the strong odour, the worker immediately alerted the authorities. Police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the accident. They are also working to notify the families of the deceased. -- 2025-01-07

Picture captured from video of the incident. An 18-year- old boy has been arrested after attacking his mother's ex- husband on January 6, with a machete, severing his arm in a fit of rage. The incident, captured on video, occurred in the Prachuap Siri area of Prachuap Khiri Khan municipality, leaving the 54-year-old victim critically injured. The violent altercation reportedly began as an argument outside a grocery store, where the teenager confronted the man for insulting his biological father. Witnesses described seeing the young man wielding a machete, striking the victim's left arm with such force that it was severed and fell onto the road. Despite his injury, the victim attempted to fight back with one arm before collapsing in front of the shop. Emergency services were alerted by horrified bystanders, and police from Prachuap Khiri Khan Police Station rushed to the scene. Rescue workers provided first aid before transporting the victim, who suffered a severed arm, a torn ear, and deep wounds to his head, neck, and shoulder, to Prachuap Hospital. Mrs. Lek, the owner of the grocery store, said she initially heard the two men arguing loudly from across the street. By the time she returned to the front of her shop, she saw the victim staggering, bleeding profusely, before collapsing on the premises. She quickly called emergency services but was left in shock by the incident. The teenager's mother, who runs a nearby grilled pork restaurant, later confirmed that her son was the attacker. She explained that the victim, her former husband, had been drinking alcohol with a friend outside her shop earlier that morning. The teenager, resting upstairs, became enraged after hearing the man loudly insult his biological father. In a moment of fury, he grabbed a machete used for cutting pineapples and attacked the man. Warning video in link shows the violent attack. After the incident, the teenager apologised to his mother, saying, "Mum, I'm sorry," before recounting the events. He then rode a motorbike with his mother to the police station, where he surrendered himself and handed over the weapon. Footage of the incident has since gone viral, showing the victim attempting to retaliate after losing his arm before collapsing on the road. The police have detained the suspect. The Commander of Region 7, Pol Lt Gen Naiwat Padermchit, stated that the investigation is ongoing as the authorities work to piece together the full details of the case. Doctors have indicated that the victim's severed arm may be difficult to reattach due to the severity of the injury. -- 2025-01-07

Picture from responders. A school van collided with a lorry on December 6, on Phetkasem Road in Thasae District, Chumphon, leaving the van’s driver critically injured. Authorities suspect drowsy driving as the cause of the crash and are conducting a thorough investigation. The incident occurred at approximately 08:30 in Moo 6, Hong Charoen Subdistrict, on the Bangkok-bound side of the highway. Police and rescue teams from Salui Police Station were dispatched to the scene. The collision happened on a steep incline, on a stretch of road with heavy traffic. The silver van, used for transporting students, was found with its front end severely damaged, trapping the driver, identified as Mr. Kiattisak, 42, inside. Rescue workers extricated him from the wreckage and transported him to the hospital in critical condition. A short distance away, the lorry was parked on the roadside, with minor damage. A nearby shopkeeper, who witnessed the crash, said she saw the lorry moving slowly as it climbed the hill when the van suddenly slammed into its rear. She immediately instructed her daughter to call emergency services and the police. Initial investigations by the police revealed that the lorry was travelling in the far-left lane designated for heavy vehicles, maintaining a slow speed due to the incline. The van had just finished dropping off students at a local school in Thasae District and was heading back to its base when the crash occurred. Police suspect the van driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel. However, further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the collision. -- 2025-01-07

Picture from responders A housekeeper was left shocked after discovering the body of the son of a renowned business owner, who was found dead in an inflatable pool with blood splattered across the wall. At approximately 09:50 on January 6, Pol Lt Col Tanongsak Phetprakob, Deputy Superintendent (Investigation) at Samae Dam Police Station, received a report of a shooting incident at a residence in Samae Dam Subdistrict, Bang Khun Thian District, Bangkok. Investigators and forensic teams rushed to the scene, accompanied by medical examiners from Siriraj Hospital and members of the Ruamkatanyu Foundation. The scene was a three-storey commercial building comprising 10 adjoining units, with the rear converted into a factory for manufacturing industrial rubber spare parts. On the third-floor balcony, the body of a 30-year-old man, identified only as Mr A, was found seated in an inflatable pool, covered in blood. A gunshot wound to his left temple was visible, with significant blood splatter staining the nearby wall. Next to him lay a registered black Derya long-barrel shotgun with a brown wooden stock, which was collected as evidence. The housekeeper recounted that earlier in the morning, she had gone about her usual cleaning routine and saw the deceased walking shirtless around the house. He appeared calm and exhibited no signs of distress. The housekeeper had briefly spoken to him before leaving to prepare for a Buddhist alms giving ceremony, as it was a religious observance day. After completing the ceremony, she returned to clean the upper floor, where she noticed what appeared to be chunks of flesh scattered near the third-floor balcony. Thinking it might be the result of a bird fight, she approached to clear it. However, sensing that she was being watched, she turned and discovered Mr A's body in the pool. Shocked, she immediately called for help from staff working in the factory below. Employees at the company stated that they had heard a loud bang resembling a gunshot around 07:30 but assumed it was firecrackers. They described the deceased as a private yet pleasant individual who showed no signs of emotional distress. They were unaware of how he came to possess the firearm. The victim's elder brother revealed that his sibling had been living alone in the building. He expressed disbelief at the news, though he acknowledged that his brother had previously exhibited signs of self-harm. The family had repeatedly advised and supported him, but they did not anticipate such a severe outcome. He added that the last time he saw his brother was during the company's New Year celebration, where the deceased appeared cheerful and sociable, showing no indications of sadness or despair. Although the family was aware that he owned a shotgun, once left visibly in his car, they had assumed it was a replica or a toy. The police have sent the body to Siriraj Hospital's forensic department. If you or anyone you know is in emotional distress, please contact the Samaritans of Thailand 24-hour hotline: 02 713 6791 (English), 02 713 6793 (Thai) or the Thai Mental Health Hotline at 1323 (Thai). The victim, Ms. Saifon, 49, from Buriram, sustained scrapes and bruises to her knees and elbows after being dragged along the road during the incident. Ms. Saifon reported the crime to Pol. Lt. Saijai Kamjulla, an investigator at Pattaya City Police Station, in a visibly shaken and injured state. She recounted that the attack occurred as she and a friend were walking to have lunch near Soi 2 Arunothai in Central Pattaya. Two assailants on an unidentified motorcycle approached from behind. The pillion rider violently grabbed Ms. Saifon's shoulder bag and attempted to speed away. Acting on pure instinct, she clung to the strap of her bag in an effort to prevent the theft. This resulted in her being dragged along the road and sustaining injuries. The assailants eventually abandoned the bag and fled the scene at high speed, heading toward the Arunothai traffic light junction. Ms. Saifon's friend, who was with her at the time, later accompanied her to the police station to provide a witness statement. Pattaya City Police issued a radio alert to officers to search for the suspects along potential escape routes. Picture from responders. A fire broke out on the morning of January 6, destroying six units of a block in the heart of Lopburi’s urban community. Residents scrambled to save belongings and pets as flames consumed the two-storey structures, with damages estimated in the millions of baht. At approximately 09:10, Lopburi City Police Station received reports of a fire at an apartment block in the Khao Sam Yot community, located in Khao Sam Yot Subdistrict, Mueang Lopburi District. Thirteen fire engines from neighbouring areas were dispatched to the scene. The affected structure consisted of 10 units, built decades ago with a mix of concrete and wood. After nearly an hour of firefighting efforts, authorities successfully brought the blaze under control. However, six units were completely destroyed. Among the units, half were leased by a single tenant, 40-year-old Mr. Polwat, who used them for a furniture business. The remaining units were residential properties rented by other tenants. Eyewitnesses reported that the fire appeared to originate on the second floor of unit seven and rapidly spread to adjacent units. At the time of the incident, the affected units were unoccupied, allowing neighbours to assist in evacuating belongings and several caged dogs to safety. Thankfully, no injuries or fatalities were reported. Authorities suspect an electrical short circuit to be the cause of the fire but are continuing investigations to determine the exact cause. Initial estimates suggest damages could amount to millions of baht. This incident highlights the vulnerabilities of ageing structures in densely populated communities. -- 2025-01-07

Picture captured from CCTV. A man has been arrested after fatally shooting a motorcycle mechanic at a repair shop in Ban Mo District, Saraburi. The suspect, identified as Mr. Phot 43, was apprehended by police after fleeing the scene of the crime on 5 January. Police were alerted to the incident at approximately 17:30. Upon arrival at the repair shop, located in Moo 3, Ban Mo, officers found a large pool of blood. The victim, Mr. Teerawat, known locally as "Kae," aged 32, had been rushed to Ban Mo Hospital but was pronounced dead en route. The victim sustained three gunshot wounds from a 9mm firearm one to the neck, one to the left side of the chest, and one to the right chest. Two spent cartridges were recovered at the scene. The suspect, a neighbour residing just 200 metres away, fled the scene on a white Honda Wave 125i motorcycle. More than 20 police officers and local authorities surrounded the suspect's single-story home but found it empty. Later, villagers informed police that Mr. Phot had abandoned his motorcycle near a field hut approximately 2 kilometres from the crime scene. Officers located and arrested him nearby without resistance. He was found shirtless, wearing black shorts, and appeared exhausted. When questioned, the suspect gave incoherent statements but admitted to discarding the firearm in a ditch 500 metres from where he was captured. Officers retrieved the weapon, a 9mm pistol, from a waterway approximately 60 centimetres deep, with four live rounds still in the magazine. Mr. Phot alleged that the victim had insulted his family for two years, threatened to corrupt his child with drugs, and tried to commit indecent acts against his child. He claimed he had endured these provocations for too long. The suspect admitted to purchasing the firearm for 50,000 baht shortly before the incident. The victim's grandmother, Mrs. Surin 79, said she was at home behind the repair shop when she heard three gunshots and Mr. Phot shouting, "You think you're untouchable?" She came outside to find her grandson lying on the ground. Mrs. Surin alleged that the suspect was likely hallucinating due to drug use, insisting that her grandson had never had any issues with him. The victim's wife, Ms. Narumon 33, who was in their bedroom during the shooting, also claimed Mr. Phot had a history of drug abuse. She had previously filed a police report about his threatening behaviour on 27 October 2024. She added that the suspect had repeatedly harassed and threatened her husband without apparent reason, once saying, "Do you want to die that badly?" Police have charged Mr. Phot with premeditated murder and the illegal possession and use of a firearm in a public area. The victim's body has been sent to Srinakharinwirot University Hospital in Nakhon Nayok. -- 2025-01-07

Picture from responders. An incident unfolded in the district of Phanom Dong Rak, Surin Province, when a 37-year-old man killed his 63-year-old father in their home following a heated dispute. The shocking crime took place on the morning of 5th January. Pol Lt Kamphon Mikhanet, an investigative officer with Phanom Dong Rak Police Station, received the report at 11:30. Authorities, including rescue personnel and a medical examiner, rushed to the scene. At the residence in Khok Klang Subdistrict, police found the lifeless body of Mr Auay, aged 63, lying on a bed. The victim had severe head injuries caused by a blunt object, identified as the handle of a garden hoe. His son, Mr Sakchai, was arrested at the scene, along with the murder weapon. He has since been detained for questioning and faces charges of intentional homicide. According to relatives, Mr Auay had been living alone with his son following the death of his wife in 2003. Mrs Khao, 60, a relative of the deceased, described the father as a kind man with no ill intentions towards others, though he was known to drink and was often overly critical. It was revealed that Mr Sakchai suffers from a mental health condition requiring medication, and it is believed his father's constant nagging may have triggered the violent outburst. Mrs Somphian, 67, a neighbour, recounted the moment she discovered the body. She had gone to the house to collect chickens and called out for the victim, receiving no response. She noticed Mr Sakchai sitting nearby and asked about his father's whereabouts. He replied casually, saying his father was "warming himself by the fire." Suspicious, Mrs Somphian looked towards the bed and was horrified to see the victim lying in a pool of blood. She immediately alerted the victim's relatives, who arrived in tears and disbelief. Authorities continue to investigate the case as the local community mourns the loss. -- 2025-01-07

Fire Erupts at Metal Coating Factory in Bang Pu Industrial Estate A early morning fire broke out on January 6, at a metal coating factory within the Bang Pu Industrial Estate, Samut Prakan, causing a dramatic scene as firefighters raced to prevent the flames from spreading to neighbouring factories. Picture for responders. A early morning fire broke out on January 6, at a metal coating factory within the Bang Pu Industrial Estate, Samut Prakan, causing a dramatic scene as firefighters raced to prevent the flames from spreading to neighbouring factories. The blaze, which started in Soi 5C, was brought under control after over 2 hours of efforts. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported. The incident occurred at Siam Proplate Co. Ltd., a single-storey factory specialising in metal coating. Upon arrival, firefighters found the facility engulfed in flames, with the fire spreading rapidly due to the presence of flammable chemicals and large gacylinders on site. Over 15 fire trucks from nearby areas were dispatched, and teams worked to contain the fire. Special care was required as the factory stored highly corrosive chemicals, including caustic soda and hydrochloric acid. Despite the challenging conditions, the fire was extinguished without injuries or fatalities. Outside the factory, the Mae Nak Phra Khanong Foundation set up a mobile kitchen, providing free water and instant noodles to firefighters, who were visibly exhausted after their efforts. Mr. Sathaporn Prakmas, a 53-year-old accounting staff member, recounted hearing a loud noise and rushing to investigate with two colleagues. “We saw flames spreading quickly, within two or three minutes, the area was ablaze. We immediately evacuated. The fire seemed to start near the production line, which wasn’t in use at the time. There wasn’t a strong chemical smell, but we could see thick smoke,” he said. According to Pol. Maj. Gen. Wichit Boonchinwuttikul, Chief of Samut Prakan Provincial Police, the fire damaged approximately 25% of the 3-rai factory, with an estimated loss of 5 million baht. The blaze primarily affected the left wing of the facility. Officials are awaiting a forensic investigation to determine the exact cause. Preliminary checks by public health authorities and the industrial estate management confirmed that there is no immediate danger from smoke or residual chemicals. -- 2025-01-07
