  1. Picture from responders. A 42-year-old man in Maha Sarakham shot his 18-year-old stepdaughter and then set himself on fire in a suspected act of despair after unrequited love. Both were severely injured in the incident, which took place on the evening of January 6 in Na Kha sub-district, Wapi Pathum district. Police from Na Kha station were alerted to a fire at a two-storey wooden and concrete house. Upon arrival, officers found two injured individuals. The stepdaughter, identified only as Miss A, was shot twice in the hip and is a local student. The stepfather, Mr. Khunthong, suffered extensive burns to his entire body. Both were rushed to Wapi Pathum Hospital for emergency treatment. According to investigators, Mr. Khunthong had been married to the homeowner, Ms. Wiangmanee, for two years and lived in the house with her and her three children: Miss A, her 16-year-old brother, and an 11-year-old boy. The youngest child, recounted that before the incident, Mr. Khunthong had taken a hunting rifle, claiming he was going to hunt rats. Moments later, gunshots were heard, and he found his sister injured. Mr. Khunthong then doused himself with petrol and set himself on fire. Shocked, the child alerted his brother and called their mother, who was out running errands. Neighbours reported being unaware of any conflict in the household, and police are continuing their investigation. Preliminary findings suggest the motive stemmed from Mr. Khunthong's unrequited feelings for his stepdaughter. Police Lieutenant Colonel Sompong Samsi, the investigating officer, stated that heartbreak appears to have driven the man to commit the act. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to uncover further details about the tragedy. -- 2025-01-08

An incident occurred on January 7, when a Chinese tourist drowned after being swept away by strong underwater currents while swimming in the sea off Rayong’s Khao Laem Ya National Park. According to police reports, Lt. Col. Sayant Panjarak, Deputy Investigator at Ban Krang Police Station in Klaeng, Rayong, was informed by park officials that the body of a female tourist was found floating near Koh Kudee, approximately 2 kilometres from the original location where the incident occurred. The deceased has been identified as Zhao Liang, a Chinese tourist who had been visiting the area with her boyfriend. The couple had joined a tour group, along with 15 other tourists, on a boat trip from Koh Samet to explore five islands, including a visit to Bat Cave Island in the Charkpong district of Klaeng. While swimming near the island, in what is described as small waves, Zhao was caught by strong currents. The tour boat crew noticed her absence and immediately began searching around the island but could not locate her. Hours later, a team from the Khao Laem Ya National Park discovered her body drifting near Koh Kudee. Authorities have sent the body to Rayong Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Investigations are underway, including interviews with witnesses, Zhao’s boyfriend, and the tour company staff. 5. Picture courtesy of TMN. Police from Pattaya Police Station responded at 09.00 on January 7, to reports of a young woman attempting to jump from a building in Pattaya, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. The incident took place at a five-storey apartment building on Pattaya Klang Road (Central Pattaya Road). Officers arrived to find Miss Woraporn, 23, crying uncontrollably while standing on the fourth-floor sloping roof, threatening to jump. Despite police efforts to calm her, she refused to respond. Shortly after, her boyfriend arrived at the scene and attempted to reason with her. Using a moment of distraction, he managed to grab her arm and pull her to safety. According to her elder sister, Miss Sirirat, 28, Miss Woraporn suffers from depression and has a history of overdosing on medication. She revealed that this was not the first time her younger sister had attempted suicide by jumping from a building. On previous occasions, she had been saved in time. Miss Sirirat explained that prior to the incident, she had been alone with her sister when Woraporn suddenly ran to the balcony. Although Woraporn had minor arguments with her boyfriend, her sister believes these were not the primary cause of the attempt. Rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation transported Miss Woraporn to Pattaya City Hospital, where she is now receiving professional medical care for her condition. 7. Picture from responders. A remarkable act unfolded in Phuket on the afternoon of 6 January, when a teenage student stepped in to help save the life of a man whose heart had stopped beating. At approximately 14.00 the rescue team from Cherng Talay Municipality in Thalang District responded to an emergency call reporting a man who had collapsed near the Cherng Talay Shrine on Srisoonthorn Road. Upon arrival, the team discovered the unconscious man, who had reportedly suffered a seizure before his condition worsened. The rescue team immediately began lifesaving procedures, including CPR, deploying an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and providing oxygen. However, due to the complexity of the situation, the team called for assistance from bystanders. Among those who responded was Miss Benjawan Kanpai, affectionately known as Rinrada, a school student from Cherng Talay Wittaya School. Still wearing her school uniform, Rinrada quickly sprang into action. Using the AED and performing CPR under the guidance of rescue workers, she administered two life-saving shocks to the man’s heart. Her timely intervention stabilised the man’s condition enough for him to be safely transported to the hospital for further treatment. When interviewed after the incident, Rinrada revealed that she and her classmates had undergone CPR training two years ago as part of a programme organised by the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation. She shared that she had diligently reviewed her training and practical skills ever since. “I never imagined I would need to use it in a real-life situation,” said Rinrada, still visibly moved by the experience. “It was nerve-wracking, but saving the man’s life was far more important. I just tried my best. I’m so happy I could help bring him back.” The rescue team praised Rinrada for her courageous and effective response, calling her actions a testament to the importance of equipping young people with essential lifesaving skills. This extraordinary act of heroism has drawn admiration across Phuket, with many celebrating Rinrada as a true local hero who demonstrated that knowledge, preparedness, and compassion can make a life-saving difference. -- 2025-01-07

  9. Pictures from raid. In the late hours of January 6, at approximately 22:35 Pattaya’s Tourist Police and Immigration officials conducted a successful raid on an illegal gambling operation involving foreign nationals. The operation took place at a private room in Jomtien, Nong Prue, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi, located just two streets away from the local Immigration Office. The raid was led by Pol. Lt. Col. Piyapong Ensarn, Chief of the Tourist Police Sub-division 4, Division 2, and Pol. Lt. Col. Sirachat Nutes, Deputy Chief of Pattaya Police Station. Coordinating efforts with officers from Pattaya Tourist Police, Chonburi Immigration Police, and Pattaya Police, the team acted on a tip-off from an informant. The tip revealed that foreign nationals were covertly operating a gambling den, over a seemingly legitimate beer bar. Upon investigation, authorities discovered that the upper room had been modified exclusively for playing poker. When officers stormed the premises, they found seven foreign nationals, hailing from Australia, Russia, the United States, and the United Kingdom, engaged in a poker game. Five Thai nationals were also present, including a dealer, assistants, and housekeepers. Authorities confiscated poker tables, multiple decks of playing cards, and a sum of cash used in the gambling activities. A total of 12 individuals, including both Thais and foreign nationals, were detained and taken to Pattaya Police Station for further legal proceedings. All evidence was also handed over to the investigative officers to proceed in accordance with the law. The raid highlights the Pattaya authorities’ ongoing efforts to clamp down on illegal activities in the region, particularly those involving foreign nationals, in order to maintain law and order. -- 2025-01-07

Corey Beavis, from Barry, South Wales, was killed in Phuket on Saturday 4 January. Corey’s twin brother, Liam, paid a heartfelt tribute, describing him as his “best friend” and “number one partner in crime”. The family is now trying to raise £35,000 to repatriate Corey’s body to the UK, with over £10,000 donated by well-wishers in less than 24 hours. Liam said: “Every single good memory I have in life is with my brother. We lived life to the fullest, and I’m glad we did it together. Rest easy, big man, see you on the other side. From the womb to the world. “This has changed me forever, but I promise I’ll make you proud. 16. Picture and video from responders. A devastating fire engulfed Ploy Pla Tu & Pet Mart, a large-scale pet food and supply store in Mae Sai, Chiang Rai, on the evening of 6 January. The blaze caused extensive damage, including the deaths of numerous animals and an estimated financial loss of at least 5 million baht. The fire broke out at approximately 21:00, prompting police from Mae Sai Police Station to coordinate with local firefighting units. Fire engines from Mae Sai Subdistrict Municipality, Mae Sai Mitraphap Municipality, and Wiang Phang Kham Municipality, 15 in total, rushed to the scene. Rescue organisations, including the Siam Ruamjai Foundation and Piyamit Mae Sai Relief Society, also assisted in containing the fire. The fire rapidly consumed the store, located in Moo 6, Ban Pa Yang, Mae Sai subdistrict, due to the large quantities of combustible pet supplies stored within. Firefighters battled the flames for over two hours before successfully preventing the blaze from spreading to neighbouring buildings. Initial inspections revealed significant damage to the building’s structure and the destruction of a wide range of pet products. Tragically, numerous animals, including dogs, cats, rabbits, turtles, and fish, perished in the fire. Only a handful of animals were rescued before the flames intensified. The store’s owner, Mrs. Ratree, was visibly distraught as she watched the tragedy unfold. Overcome with grief for the animals trapped inside, she expressed her deep sorrow for the loss. Preliminary investigations suggest that an electrical short circuit may have caused the fire. However, forensic experts will conduct a detailed investigation to confirm the exact cause. This is not the first disaster to strike Ploy Pla Tu & Pet Mart. The store suffered heavy losses during last year’s severe flooding in Mae Sai, which caused significant damage to its stock of pet food and live animals. The owners had only recently restocked and resumed operations before this fire destroyed the business once again. Authorities are continuing their investigation, while the community has expressed sympathy for the store’s losses and the plight of the animals. -- 2025-01-07 ScreenRecording_01-07-2025 05-39-41_1.mp4

  18. Picture from responders. Police officers from Chaiya Police Station, Surat Thani province, responded on January 6, to a report of two bodies discovered in a canal near Ban Tha Hak Bridge on Pa We Road, Moo 3, Pa We sub-district, Chaiya district. A blue-grey Honda Wave 110i motorcycle was also found next to the irrigation canal, under a bridge. Fragments of the motorcycle were located near the edge of the canal, along with evidence suggesting a crash and skid marks leading to the bridge. Upon further investigation, the bodies of two men were recovered nearby. The deceased were identified as Myanmar nationals, Mr. Aow Ko Piw, aged 21, and Mr. Aung Soe Moe. Both had been dead for approximately four days. Their bloated bodies were found face down, tangled in vegetation along the canal. Initial police assessments indicate that the pair were involved in a motorcycle some days earlier. Evidence suggests the motorcycle struck a tree near the road before veering off the bridge, which stands over 7 metres high, plunging both riders into the canal. Police believe the current carried the bodies approximately one kilometre downstream from the crash site. An irrigation worker who discovered the incident reported noticing the motorcycle under the bridge and, upon closer inspection, found the decomposing bodies nearby. Alarmed by the sight and the strong odour, the worker immediately alerted the authorities. Police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the accident. They are also working to notify the families of the deceased. -- 2025-01-07

  21. Picture captured from video of the incident. An 18-year- old boy has been arrested after attacking his mother's ex- husband on January 6, with a machete, severing his arm in a fit of rage. The incident, captured on video, occurred in the Prachuap Siri area of Prachuap Khiri Khan municipality, leaving the 54-year-old victim critically injured. The violent altercation reportedly began as an argument outside a grocery store, where the teenager confronted the man for insulting his biological father. Witnesses described seeing the young man wielding a machete, striking the victim's left arm with such force that it was severed and fell onto the road. Despite his injury, the victim attempted to fight back with one arm before collapsing in front of the shop. Emergency services were alerted by horrified bystanders, and police from Prachuap Khiri Khan Police Station rushed to the scene. Rescue workers provided first aid before transporting the victim, who suffered a severed arm, a torn ear, and deep wounds to his head, neck, and shoulder, to Prachuap Hospital. Mrs. Lek, the owner of the grocery store, said she initially heard the two men arguing loudly from across the street. By the time she returned to the front of her shop, she saw the victim staggering, bleeding profusely, before collapsing on the premises. She quickly called emergency services but was left in shock by the incident. The teenager's mother, who runs a nearby grilled pork restaurant, later confirmed that her son was the attacker. She explained that the victim, her former husband, had been drinking alcohol with a friend outside her shop earlier that morning. The teenager, resting upstairs, became enraged after hearing the man loudly insult his biological father. In a moment of fury, he grabbed a machete used for cutting pineapples and attacked the man. Warning video in link shows the violent attack. After the incident, the teenager apologised to his mother, saying, "Mum, I'm sorry," before recounting the events. He then rode a motorbike with his mother to the police station, where he surrendered himself and handed over the weapon. Footage of the incident has since gone viral, showing the victim attempting to retaliate after losing his arm before collapsing on the road. The police have detained the suspect. The Commander of Region 7, Pol Lt Gen Naiwat Padermchit, stated that the investigation is ongoing as the authorities work to piece together the full details of the case. Doctors have indicated that the victim's severed arm may be difficult to reattach due to the severity of the injury. -- 2025-01-07

  23. Picture from responders. A school van collided with a lorry on December 6, on Phetkasem Road in Thasae District, Chumphon, leaving the van’s driver critically injured. Authorities suspect drowsy driving as the cause of the crash and are conducting a thorough investigation. The incident occurred at approximately 08:30 in Moo 6, Hong Charoen Subdistrict, on the Bangkok-bound side of the highway. Police and rescue teams from Salui Police Station were dispatched to the scene. The collision happened on a steep incline, on a stretch of road with heavy traffic. The silver van, used for transporting students, was found with its front end severely damaged, trapping the driver, identified as Mr. Kiattisak, 42, inside. Rescue workers extricated him from the wreckage and transported him to the hospital in critical condition. A short distance away, the lorry was parked on the roadside, with minor damage. A nearby shopkeeper, who witnessed the crash, said she saw the lorry moving slowly as it climbed the hill when the van suddenly slammed into its rear. She immediately instructed her daughter to call emergency services and the police. Initial investigations by the police revealed that the lorry was travelling in the far-left lane designated for heavy vehicles, maintaining a slow speed due to the incline. The van had just finished dropping off students at a local school in Thasae District and was heading back to its base when the crash occurred. Police suspect the van driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel. However, further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the collision. -- 2025-01-07
  24. Picture from responders A housekeeper was left shocked after discovering the body of the son of a renowned business owner, who was found dead in an inflatable pool with blood splattered across the wall. At approximately 09:50 on January 6, Pol Lt Col Tanongsak Phetprakob, Deputy Superintendent (Investigation) at Samae Dam Police Station, received a report of a shooting incident at a residence in Samae Dam Subdistrict, Bang Khun Thian District, Bangkok. Investigators and forensic teams rushed to the scene, accompanied by medical examiners from Siriraj Hospital and members of the Ruamkatanyu Foundation. The scene was a three-storey commercial building comprising 10 adjoining units, with the rear converted into a factory for manufacturing industrial rubber spare parts. On the third-floor balcony, the body of a 30-year-old man, identified only as Mr A, was found seated in an inflatable pool, covered in blood. A gunshot wound to his left temple was visible, with significant blood splatter staining the nearby wall. Next to him lay a registered black Derya long-barrel shotgun with a brown wooden stock, which was collected as evidence. The housekeeper recounted that earlier in the morning, she had gone about her usual cleaning routine and saw the deceased walking shirtless around the house. He appeared calm and exhibited no signs of distress. The housekeeper had briefly spoken to him before leaving to prepare for a Buddhist alms giving ceremony, as it was a religious observance day. After completing the ceremony, she returned to clean the upper floor, where she noticed what appeared to be chunks of flesh scattered near the third-floor balcony. Thinking it might be the result of a bird fight, she approached to clear it. However, sensing that she was being watched, she turned and discovered Mr A's body in the pool. Shocked, she immediately called for help from staff working in the factory below. Employees at the company stated that they had heard a loud bang resembling a gunshot around 07:30 but assumed it was firecrackers. They described the deceased as a private yet pleasant individual who showed no signs of emotional distress. They were unaware of how he came to possess the firearm. The victim's elder brother revealed that his sibling had been living alone in the building. He expressed disbelief at the news, though he acknowledged that his brother had previously exhibited signs of self-harm. The family had repeatedly advised and supported him, but they did not anticipate such a severe outcome. He added that the last time he saw his brother was during the company's New Year celebration, where the deceased appeared cheerful and sociable, showing no indications of sadness or despair. Although the family was aware that he owned a shotgun, once left visibly in his car, they had assumed it was a replica or a toy. The police have sent the body to Siriraj Hospital's forensic department.
