  2. UPDATE Man Dies After Concrete Slab Falls on Pickup Truck on Rama II Picture courtesy of SiamRath. A 46-year-old man has died after being critically injured on 29 April, when a concrete slab fell from an elevated roadway onto his pickup truck along the outbound side of Rama II Road. The victim, identified as Mr Amnat, suffered severe internal injuries including liver damage and internal bleeding after the slab crashed down on his vehicle near a flyover leading into central Bangkok. Emergency services rushed to the scene, and he was taken to hospital for urgent treatment. His condition deteriorated and he later succumbed to his injuries, after undergoing surgery. The confirmation of his death was shared publicly via a Facebook post by Mr Natthapong Sumonotham, Member of Parliament for Samut Sakhon’s District 1 from the People’s Party. “It is a sad piece of news that none of us ever wanted to hear,” Mr Natthapong wrote. “Amnat’s younger brother called to inform me that he has passed away. My deepest condolences go out to his family.” Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, focusing on the safety of ongoing roadworks and infrastructure in the area. An official stated that initial investigation suggests that the block fell from the existing structure, not the new under construction works. The incident has prompted renewed public concerns over construction safety along Rama II Road, a major route often plagued by infrastructure issues and frequent accidents. 4. Picture courtesy of Khomchadluek. A police sub-lieutenant in Loei province has been transferred following repeated violent and erratic behaviour that left local residents in fear for their safety. Mr Somchai 48, a resident of Nong Hin sub-district, reported that his neighbour, a police officer with the rank of Sub-Lieutenant, had been suffering from severe delusions and had fired shots at his house and car, as well as hurling stones at his property on multiple occasions. According to Mr Somchai, the incidents have occurred over a period of two years, forcing his family to live in constant fear. He recounted how, most recently on the morning of 26 April, the officer threw stones at their wall again, damaging property and terrifying his household. Although reports were lodged at Nong Hin Police Station, the behaviour persisted. Neighbours confirmed the officer lives alone after the death of his wife, and has one daughter who does not reside with him. He reportedly suffers from a mental health condition and is under regular psychiatric care at a mental hospital in Loei province. A police colleague said the officer had previously fired shots at adjacent homes, prompting superiors to confiscate his firearm two years ago. Allegations of drug use remain unverified. Speaking to reporters by phone, Pol. Col. Therdsak Boonchot, Superintendent of Nong Hin Police Station, confirmed that the matter had been escalated to Pol. Maj. Gen. Weeradet Lekaworakul, Loei Provincial Police Commander, who promptly ordered the officer’s transfer to a temporary administrative post at the provincial headquarters. It is understood that the officer’s condition may have worsened due to missing prescribed medication. Police have asked his family to ensure he continues receiving appropriate care. Criminal proceedings have also begun, with the complainant filing two charges: damage to property and intimidation. The investigation officer has officially registered the case and pledged to treat all parties fairly as the matter proceeds. Adapted by Asean Now from Khomchadluek 2025-04-30.

  6. Picture courtesy of Matichon. A man accused of being part of a criminal gang that impersonated police officers, abducted a teenager, planted drugs, and extorted 800,000 baht has been re-arrested after previously fleeing court proceedings by removing his electronic monitoring (EM) bracelet. Officers from the Crime Suppression Division (CSD), acting on orders from Pol. Maj. Gen. Wichaya Sriprasertphap, arrested 38-year-old Mr. Thongchai on April 29 on Soi Hathairat 31 in Khlong Sam Wa District, Bangkok. He was wanted under an arrest warrant issued by the Min Buri Criminal Court on August 17, 2022, for multiple charges including criminal association, impersonating law enforcement officers, unlawful detention, coercion, and fraud. The arrest stems from a 2022 incident in which Mr. Thongchai and four accomplices falsely presented themselves as police officers. They approached a male teenager and claimed to have discovered 10 methamphetamine pills and a quantity of crystal methamphetamine on him. Using threats of prosecution and imprisonment, they coerced the victim into surrendering his car and other valuables, worth more than 800,000 baht, in exchange for his release. Terrified for his safety, the victim complied, handing over all his possessions. After being released, he promptly reported the incident to Min Buri Police Station. Investigations revealed that the suspects were not real police officers and that the drugs used in the scheme had been planted by the gang to frame the victim. Authorities gathered sufficient evidence to obtain arrest warrants for all five suspects, including Mr. Thongchai, who was initially apprehended and released on bail with an EM bracelet. However, upon learning that the court had sentenced several of his accomplices to prison, Mr. Thongchai cut off his EM device and went into hiding, failing to appear in court. A new arrest warrant was issued, leading to his capture. Mr. Thongchai continues to deny all charges. He has been remanded by the Min Buri Criminal Court for further legal proceedings. 8. Picture courtesy of Amarin Authorities in Udon Thani were called to a public park on Monday after a woman was found almost nude in the waters of Nong Prajak Park, claiming she had been dragged in by a water spirit. Pol. Lt. Thirayotin Supsin, Deputy Inspector of Mueang Udon Thani Police Station, was conducting a routine patrol when he received reports of a mentally unstable woman undressing and entering the lake near a riverside restaurant in the Ban Non community. Concerned she might drown, police officers and municipal fire crews responded quickly to the scene. The woman, later identified as 35-year-old Ms. Paeng, was found standing at the water’s edge holding a sponge gourd and seemingly searching for something underwater. Dressed in only a red pair of underpants and wearing just one black shoe, she told officials that her full name was “Isabella” in English and that she was a local resident out for exercise. She explained that one of her shoes had fallen into the lake, prompting her to jump in, resulting in all her clothes coming off. Ms. Paeng claimed she was then pulled under by a “phi phrai”, a malevolent water spirit and only escaped by chanting the Buddhist protective mantra “Na Mo Phuttha Ya.” A strong swimmer, she managed to surface and exit the water but was left with nothing but her underwear. A kind passerby gave her clothing after seeing her in distress. She also displayed a large tiger tattoo on her back, which she said protected her from misfortune. When authorities attempted to escort her to hospital for mental health assessment, Ms. Paeng initially refused, expressing a strong dislike for the police due to a past conviction for theft that resulted in a year-long prison sentence. She said she preferred firefighters and soldiers. After nearly 10 minutes of negotiation, she finally agreed to accompany officers but only if she could ride in the fire truck. Eventually, she was persuaded to transfer to a police vehicle, on the condition that a firefighter accompanied her. She also requested to be taken to a nearby charity food centre at Wat Pa Ban Tat monastery. Officials contacted her relatives, and Ms. Paeng was transferred to Udon Thani Central Hospital for evaluation and care. Mr. Phet Khwanprasert, 54, a fellow resident, told reporters he saw Ms. Paeng undressing before entering the lake. Concerned for her wellbeing, he asked if she had been abused, but she said she was simply hot and wanted to cool off. He confirmed that she lived near the hospital with her husband and expressed sympathy, noting that while she showed signs of mental instability, she was still able to communicate clearly. Authorities have not confirmed the cause of her behaviour, but mental health specialists are expected to conduct further assessments. Adapted by Asean Now from Amarin 2025-04-30.

  10. Picture courtesy of Siam News. Authorities have announced on 29 April, the successful seizure of 261 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and the arrest of two suspects believed to be part of a major Thai-Malaysian transnational drug trafficking network. The announcement was made during a press conference by Mr. Mana Siripityawat, Deputy Secretary-General of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), alongside senior representatives from Thailand’s military and air and naval intelligence divisions. The operation was a coordinated effort involving domestic enforcement agencies and Malaysia’s Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID). The arrests were made on 24 April in Tha Chang sub-district, Bang Klam district, Songkhla province. Authorities had been investigating the network for over a month, discovering that the suspects had rented a house in Songkhla to serve as a temporary storage facility before smuggling the drugs through the southern border provinces, particularly Narathiwat, en route to a third country. After monitoring the suspects closely, officers moved in to conduct a raid, uncovering the substantial quantity of methamphetamine and detaining two individuals at the scene. During questioning, the suspects admitted they were transporting the drugs for international delivery. They also revealed they had previously trafficked a shipment of over one million methamphetamine pills to Narathiwat, receiving a payment of 120,000 baht. Mr. Mana credited the success of the operation to intelligence-sharing and collaboration between domestic enforcement agencies and international partners, especially the Malaysian NCID. He emphasised the importance of continued international cooperation to combat drug trafficking and transnational crime, and to prevent Thailand from being used as a transit hub for narcotics bound for overseas markets. 12. Picture courtesy of SiamChon. A Hungarian tourist was injured in an altercation near Pattaya Beach after allegedly refusing to pay for drinks, cannabis, and entertainment provided by a transgender companion. The incident occurred at 00:15 on 30 April, near Soi Pattaya Beach 12, in the Nong Prue sub-district of Bang Lamung, Chonburi province. Police Lieutenant Chaowalit Suwanmanee, deputy inspector of Pattaya City Police Station, responded to the call along with officers from the Tourist Police and volunteers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Foundation. At the scene, the 53-year-old Hungarian man, name not disclosed, was found with a laceration on the left side of his head and ear, bleeding heavily. Rescue personnel administered first aid before transporting him to a nearby hospital. The suspected assailants had fled the scene prior to the arrival of authorities. Staff from the cannabis and cocktail shop where the incident occurred presented a drink bill totalling 1,570 baht as evidence and expressed frustration with the tourist’s behaviour. According to witnesses, the man had consumed both cannabis and alcoholic beverages at the venue before inviting a transgender woman from the beach to join him. However, when the venue closed, the tourist was allegedly unable or unwilling to pay either the bill or the entertainment fee owed to the companion. This led to a heated dispute. The companion reportedly called in friends to help resolve the situation, which quickly escalated into physical violence. Staff at the venue intervened to break up the altercation, preventing more serious injuries. Following treatment, the Hungarian man will be taken in for questioning by Pattaya police. He claimed he intended to pay the bill but was unable to do so due to a problem with his mobile phone. If he chooses to press charges regarding the assault, investigators will attempt to identify and locate the perpetrators for legal action. Adapted by Asean Now from SiamChon 2025-04-30.

  14. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A grim discovery in a rice field has led to the suspected identification of a missing retired government official, after human remains were found scattered across the area. At around 09:00 on April 29, officers from Dong Pa Kham Police Station in Phichit’s Mueang District, together with provincial investigators, local administrative officials, and over 50 volunteers from the Sapphaphet Rescue Unit, conducted an extensive search after a shocking find the previous evening. On April 28 at approximately 18:30, a villager came across a human arm about 25 inches long in the middle of a paddy field in Moo 1, Dong Pa Kham sub-district. The limb, partially decomposed and covered in dry, darkened skin, appeared to have been dragged to the area by dogs. The site was just 15 metres from a rural road and roughly 150 metres from the nearest houses. Following a two-hour coordinated search operation, police discovered a largely decomposed body approximately 200 metres from where the arm had been found. The body was found among tall grass near the banks of the Nan River, in the Khau Rup Chang area of Moo 1. Authorities began cross-checking missing persons reports from the local vicinity and soon identified a likely match: Mr. Somsong 74, a retired civil servant formerly employed by the Ministry of Agriculture in Samut Sakhon province. He had reportedly vanished on 17 April during the Songkran holiday. Doctors at Phichit Hospital were unable to confirm the cause of death due to the advanced state of decomposition. The remains have been transferred to Phra Phutthachinarat Hospital in Phitsanulok province for forensic identification and to determine the cause of death. Ms. Chaloemsri 72, identified herself as the sister of the deceased. She expressed her belief that the remains were her brother’s, given that the location of the body was just 100 metres from his home. She said her brother had gone missing during the holiday period and that relatives had searched extensively but to no avail. She described Mr. Somsong as elderly, hard of hearing, and living alone. He led a quiet life, tending his vegetable garden in the morning before retiring early in the evening. Despite his age, he was independent and maintained a simple routine. Authorities will await confirmation from forensic testing before the body is returned to the family for funeral rites. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-04-30.

  16. Picture courtesy of Matichon. A 31-year-old man arrested for the brutal murder of his girlfriend was found dead on the morning of 29 April, in a police holding cell, having taken his own life using a drawstring from his sports trousers. The suspect, identified as Mr. Chaiyawat, also known as “Max”, had been detained at Nayayom Police Station in Chanthaburi Province for the killing of his 22-year-old girlfriend, Ms. Anthika, an employee of a private delivery firm. The incident took place on the night of April 24 at a rented row house in Ban Khao Maping, Nayayom District. Police say the suspect assaulted the victim during a heated argument, reportedly sparked by jealousy after discovering messages on her phone exchanged with other men. According to his later confession, Mr. Chaiyawat claimed he did not intend to kill her, but in a fit of rage, he attacked her until she lost consciousness. Believing she was still alive, he allegedly placed her on the bed, locked the room, and fled on her motorbike. CCTV footage captured the events leading up to and after the murder, helping police track the suspect down. He was arrested in the early hours of April 29 at a friend’s house in Bo Rai District, Trat Province, and transported back to Chanthaburi for questioning. Initially denying any intent to kill, Mr. Chaiyawat later confessed under the weight of the evidence. He was placed in custody while awaiting formal charges. However, at approximately 10:30, officers discovered Mr. Chaiyawat dead in his cell. A preliminary investigation by police forensic teams and a hospital pathologist confirmed that he had used the drawstring from his trousers to hang himself from the cell bars. No signs of physical assault were found on his body, and his death is believed to have occurred 1–2 hours prior to discovery. Police officials stated that a thorough body search had been carried out before the suspect was placed in the cell, but the drawstring may have gone undetected as it was hidden within the waistband of his shorts. Mr. Chaiyawat’s uncle, who arrived at the police station to claim the body, revealed that his nephew worked as a freelance well driller and had previously struggled with drug-related issues. He declined to comment on the details of the relationship or the murder, noting that he had not lived with the couple. Mr. Chaiyawat’s parents are both deceased. His body will be released to relatives for religious rites. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the case. Adapted by Asean Now from Matichon 2025-04-30.

Upon confrontation, the real officers showed their identification and proceeded to search the suspect. A fake police ID card was found on him, falsely identifying him as “Pol. Sgt. Jakrapong” from the Metropolitan Police Division 7. Under questioning, Jakrapong admitted to having fabricated the police ID himself and confessed to recent use of methamphetamine. He voluntarily agreed to a drug test, which initially took place at Wat Phraya Krai Police Station. The result was positive for methamphetamine in his system. He was then taken to Charoenkrung Pracharak Hospital for further testing, where results again confirmed the presence of drugs. 24. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A man out fishing received the shock of his life when he discovered he had not hooked a fish but the body of a missing security guard. The incident occurred around 08:00 on 29 April, near the beach at Pom Phra Chulachomklao in Moo 5, Laem Fa Pha sub-district, Phra Samut Chedi district, Samut Prakan province. Police investigator Pol Lt Col Thongchai Srisamrong responded to the scene along with a forensic doctor from Phra Samut Chedi Sawatyanon Hospital and volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation. The body of a man was found face down in the water, clad in the uniform of a private security company. He was wearing trainers and is believed to have been dead for at least 10–12 hours. No signs of injury or foul play were found on the body. A wallet containing 210 baht in cash, a cash card, a phone pawn receipt, a torch, and a national ID card was recovered. The deceased was identified as Mr. Siri a 48-year-old native of Phon Sawan district, Si Sa Ket province. Mr. Thana a 30-year-old welder, was the first to discover the body. On his day off, he had travelled to the beach for some fishing. While scouting the area, he noticed a piece of blue cloth floating near a collapsed jetty but thought little of it. After casting his line into the same area, he felt a tug and assumed he had hooked a large fish. As he reeled in the line, he realised the hook had snagged on the cloth. He began pulling harder to free the line, only to discover, to his horror, that the hook had latched onto a corpse. Shocked, he called over a nearby scrap collector to confirm what he had found, before alerting the police and rescue services. While authorities conducted a preliminary examination of the body, Mr. Bancha 62, a senior security officer at the deceased’s company, arrived at the scene and confirmed the man was one of his subordinates. He explained that the deceased had been employed at a shipbuilding and repair facility in Phra Samut Chedi for the past six or seven months. His last logged patrols were recorded at 19:00 and 20:00, via a company Line group used to confirm security checks across five designated zones. His last known location was checkpoint 2, a dock area with gangplanks and floating pontoons that shift with the current when boats pass, potentially creating unstable footing. It is believed that the guard may have lost his balance and fallen into the water. Throughout the night, fellow security staff scoured the area in vain. It wasn’t until the following morning that his body was discovered, washed up on the nearby beach. The police recorded the incident and transferred the body to the forensic institute for a post-mortem examination. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-04-30.
