Picture from responders. A 25-year-old woman from Uzbekistan suffered serious injuries after falling from the 6th floor of a hotel in the South Pattaya area. Her friend, who was staying with her in the same room, was found to be heavily intoxicated. At approximately 12:30 on December 7, the Pattaya City Rescue Centre received a call about the incident at a hotel located behind Pattaya Tower, in the Nong Prue sub-district of Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. Emergency teams, including rescue workers and an ambulance, were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, responders found pieces of broken tiles scattered on the ground near the hotel, and the victim, identified as Choksanum Madrakimova, was found unconscious with a head injury and a broken leg. Medical personnel from Bang Lamung Hospital provided first aid before rushing her to the hospital for urgent treatment. According to the hotel’s security guard, Banleng, he was on duty when he heard a loud noise and saw the woman lying on the roof before rolling down further. Shocked by the incident, he immediately informed his supervisor at the front desk, who then called authorities. The victim and her friend, who were both staying at the hotel, had been in a room on the 6th floor. Investigations by Pattaya police revealed that the friend was still intoxicated at the time of the incident. Police have invited her for questioning to determine whether the fall was accidental or caused by other circumstances. The investigation is ongoing as authorities seek to clarify the cause of the fall. -- 2024-12-08

Picture and video from responders. A fire broke out at the construction site of the Smart Park project in the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, Rayong Province, damaging the project’s large promotional sign. Strong winds caused the fire to spread quickly, but firefighters were able to extinguish the flames before any risk of spreading to nearby buildings. The Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate Emergency Centre (EMCC) reported the incident, which occurred on December 7. The fire consumed the large sign completely, located in front of the Smart Park office building, which is still under construction. Firefighters from the Map Ta Phut Municipality responded promptly and took 30 minutes to bring the fire under control. Fortunately, the flames did not spread to the nearby building, and no injuries were reported. Initial investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit, as the sign used a lighting system that could have malfunctioned. Another possibility under review is that sparks from welding during construction might have ignited flammable materials around the sign. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire. -- 2024-12-08 ScreenRecording_12-07-2024 11-17-37_1.mp4

Picture from responders A second-hand clothes vendor in Chiang Mai experiencing extreme stress over informal debts climbed a 60-metre communication tower but became stranded and had to call emergency services for help. The incident occurred at approximately 09:30, on December 7 in front of the San Phi Suea Municipality office in Chiang Mai. According to reports, the distressed man, not named but aged 47, contacted emergency hotline 1669, stating that he was overwhelmed by his debt situation. He climbed the radio transmission tower and accidentally got an electric shock, leaving him stuck and too weak to descend. Emergency hotline staff alerted local authorities, including Deputy Mayor Phawit Boonchala of San Phi Suea Municipality. Rescue teams specialising in rope rescue operations, along with a team from the San Phi Suea Rescue Foundation, were quickly dispatched to the scene. Rescuers used a drone to assess the situation and confirmed that the casualty was conscious but weak and unable to communicate effectively. A specialised rope rescue team climbed the tower, while a fire service turntable ladder with a rescue cage, provided by Chiang Mai Municipality was deployed to bring the man down. The rescue operation lasted over two hours, and the casualty was safely brought to the ground before being transported to a hospital for treatment. Deputy Mayor Phawit stated, "We responded immediately after being informed. Despite his weakened state, he was conscious. Our rope rescue team worked efficiently, and we ensured his safety during the operation." Authorities are investigating the incident and have urged anyone dealing with financial or emotional distress to seek help from appropriate channels rather than resorting to dangerous actions. -- 2024-12-08

Picture from responders. A woman was severely injured in a late-night collision after being struck by a taxi while attempting to cross the road. A bystander performed CPR, reviving her before medics arrived. At around 01:00 on December 7, police from Samrong Nuea Station responded to reports of a traffic collision on Thepharak Road near kilometre marker 4.5, heading towards Bang Phli in Samut Prakan. The incident occurred in front of a pub. Emergency responders from Paolo Memorial Samut Prakan Hospital and the Poh Teck Tung Foundation also attended the scene. Authorities found a severely injured 30-year-old woman, identified only as “Ms. A”, near the road’s central divider. A good Samaritan had performed CPR until she regained a pulse, after which she was transported to the hospital. Nearby, a damaged orange Toyota taxi was parked in the right lane with its front-right section dented, headlight broken, and windshield cracked. The driver, identified as Mr. Sena, 53, waited at the scene to provide his account of the incident. According to Mr. Sena, he was driving normally and preparing to make a U-turn to drop off a passenger when the victim suddenly ran across the road without stopping. He stated, “She ran across the road abruptly, and I couldn’t stop in time.” A witness described the incident differently, noting that the woman appeared to be crossing from a pub to the opposite side of the road when the taxi, traveling in the right lane, struck her. The impact caused her to be thrown into the air. The witness added, “I rushed to check her pulse, but she had none, so I performed CPR until her heartbeat returned and waited for rescue workers to take over.” Initial investigations indicate that the victim had not reached the central divider when she was hit. Police have summoned both the taxi driver and the victim’s friends for further questioning at the station. CCTV footage from the area will also be reviewed to determine the cause of the accident. Legal proceedings will follow based on the findings. -- 2024-12-08

Picture courtesy of ECSD Police in Phitsanulok have uncovered a counterfeit operation selling fake L’Oréal hair dye and related products, seizing items from a residence. On December 7, Pol. Lt. Col. Natthawut Pomngern, a special officer with the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECSD), along with other officers and representatives from the affected company, conducted a raid on a house in Moo 8, Hua Ro Subdistrict, Mueang Phitsanulok District. The raid resulted in the arrest of a 39-year-old woman, identified only as “Ms. A”, and the seizure of counterfeit products bearing the L’Oréal trademark. The operation stemmed from a complaint filed by L’Oréal representatives, who reported the unauthorised sale of fake hair products, including those used for dyeing, perming, and straightening, on social media. The counterfeit products had not undergone L’Oréal’s standard quality checks and posed potential risks to consumers. Following an investigation, police identified the suspect’s residence as a storage and distribution point for the counterfeit goods. With sufficient evidence, officers obtained a search warrant from the Central Intellectual Property and International Trade Court and carried out the raid, uncovering the fake products hidden on the property. During questioning, the suspect admitted to all charges. Authorities charged her with “possessing goods for sale that bear counterfeit trademarks registered in the Kingdom.” She has been handed over to the Economic Crime Suppression Division for further legal proceedings. Authorities warn the public to be cautious when purchasing products online, especially those claiming to be from reputable brands, to avoid counterfeit goods that may pose safety risks. -- 2024-12-08

Rescue teams worked for an hour to free the trapped driver, who sustained severe injuries. Police Lieutenant Boonthip Jinda, an investigator from Laem Chabang Police Station, received the accident report and coordinated with the Sawang Prateep Sriracha Rescue Team to respond to the scene. Picture courtesy of CCIB The Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) has arrested a couple for forging New Zealand visas and defrauding Thai citizens seeking overseas employment. At a press briefing held at 09:30 on December 7, CCIB Commander Pol. Lt. Gen. Trirong Phiwphan, alongside other officials, including representatives from the New Zealand Embassy in Thailand and Immigration New Zealand, announced the successful operation against the suspects. According to Pol. Lt. Gen. Trirong, irregularities in visa applications for Thai workers traveling to New Zealand were flagged by the New Zealand Embassy. These applications were found to involve counterfeit documents, prompting the embassy to alert the Thai cyber police. After gathering evidence, the court issued arrest warrants for two individuals. On the morning of December 6, officers from CCIB raided a residence in the Prasert-Manukit area of Bangkok, believed to be the hideout of the suspects. The individuals, identified as Ms. Jantima and Mr. Anuwat, had been evading detection for years, even refraining from registering official identification for over a decade. The suspects were charged with fraud, forgery, submitting false information to computer systems, and deceiving victims by falsely claiming they could secure jobs or training opportunities abroad. Investigations revealed that the couple had exploited their past experiences working in South Korea to identify vulnerabilities among Thai job seekers. Initially targeting those interested in South Korea, the suspects shifted focus to New Zealand due to its higher wages. Using social media, they created convincing posts and purchased Facebook pages with large followings to attract victims. The suspects promised job placements in New Zealand, quoting a fee of 70,000 baht, which included 50,000 baht for a work visa and 20,000 baht for personal expenses. They engaged with victims through video calls and provided fabricated employment contracts purportedly from New Zealand employers. Victims were warned not to share these documents, under the threat of legal consequences. Once victims transferred payments, the suspects would sever contact. Although only two victims have come forward so far, police suspect there may be many additional victims based on evidence found during the raid. Authorities are urging other victims to contact the police to assist in the investigation. Following the press conference, the suspects were taken to Ratchada Criminal Court for detention. During their transfer, Ms. Jantima broke down in tears and leaned on police officers for support. Both suspects declined to answer questions from the media. Police have opposed bail for the suspects, citing concerns about evidence tampering. Investigations are ongoing to identify additional victims and accomplices. -- 2024-12-08
