  2. Picture courtesy of Workpoint. Cyber police have arrested n online lottery operator in Kalasin province, seizing assets valued at more than 6 million baht, following an extensive investigation into illegal gambling activities on social media. The arrest stems from an operation by the Cyber Patrol Unit of Division 4, Technology Crime Suppression Division 3, which had been monitoring suspicious activity on Facebook. Officers discovered posts promoting illegal lottery sales and transactions. After gathering sufficient evidence, the authorities secured a search warrant and on 29 May apprehended a 31-year-old woman, Ms. Mananya, also known as “Yam”. Further investigation of Ms. Mananya’s online activity revealed she was involved in the sale and forwarding of lottery numbers to another suspect, Ms. Sudaporn or “Yu”, believed to be a major illegal lottery operator in Kalasin. Police traced financial transactions and chat messages from Facebook and LINE apps, uncovering a network with over 20 million baht in financial circulation. The operation included multiple customer communications and promotional activity for illegal gambling. On 10 June, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Mit Konchum and Pol. Lt. Col. Winai Sukhophet, police executed a court-approved search warrant (No. K.109/2568) at a residence in Mueang Kalasin District. Ms. Sudaporn was present at the location. Upon inspection of her mobile phone, police found substantial evidence of her role in operating an illegal online lottery network. She was formally charged with organising and promoting unauthorised gambling under Thai law, including facilitating access to unlicensed online lottery platforms and using social media to attract customers. During the search, police confiscated the following items with an estimated combined value exceeding 6 million baht: 1. Harley Davidson motorcycle 2. Honda CRF 250 motorcycle 3. Vespa scooter 4. Toyota Fortuner SUV 5. Two land title deeds 6. Glock 19 Gen 5 handgun 7. iPhone 8. Two iPads Ms. Sudaporn confessed to operating the online lottery business in collaboration with Ms. Mananya since around 2017. She was taken into custody along with all seized evidence and handed over to investigators for prosecution. This arrest marks another step in Thailand’s efforts to curb illegal online gambling, especially those exploiting digital platforms to promote unlicensed lottery activities. 3. Poipet Casinos Reeling as Thai Border Crackdown Hits Gambling Trade Picture courtesy of Naewna. 4. Picture courtesy of Naewna. A Thai military-led border restriction targeting cross-border gambling has severely impacted ten major casinos in Poipet, Cambodia, with operations grinding to a near standstill and thousands of Thai workers sent home. Now after days of intensified border controls at the Ban Khlong Luek checkpoint in Aranyaprathet District, the once-bustling Poipet gambling zone has turned eerily quiet. The move is part of Thailand’s strategic response to ongoing border disputes with Cambodia, using economic pressure to curb tensions. Under the new measures, the Thai military has adjusted operating hours at the Klong Luek border gate to limit access. Thai authorities open the checkpoint at 08:00, while Cambodia’s Poipet gate opens at 09:00, causing a one-hour discrepancy that disrupts travel flow. Border security forces have been deployed to conduct strict screening, allowing only Thai nationals with verified employment in Cambodia to cross and even then, for no more than seven days at a time. As a result, ten of Poipet’s best-known casinos, including Holiday Palace, Grand Diamond, Star Vegas, Poipet Resort, Golden Crown, Tropicana, Diamond City, Star Gold, OK VIP, and DNA Casino, have reported a drastic drop in visitors. With Thai gamblers effectively blocked from entering, casino operators have laid off over 80% of their Thai staff, sending them back across the border. Mr. Yo, an employee at one of the casinos, described the situation as unprecedented. “In the past days, all the casinos here have been empty. Nearly all junket companies, which used to bring in Thai gamblers, have closed, over 50 companies in total,” he said. In anticipation of further escalation, including possible cuts to electricity or internet by Thai authorities, casino operators have begun preparing backup power generators to maintain operations during potential outages. Back on the Thai side, thousands of returning Thai workers, mostly laid-off casino staff, have flooded the Aranyaprathet immigration terminal. Long queues formed as returning nationals awaited passport checks, prompting immigration officials to deploy additional staff to manage the crowds. Immigration chief Pol. Col. Naphatphong Supaporn was present to oversee operations. According to Col. Naphatphong, more than 20,000 Thai nationals have returned from Poipet since the measures were introduced on 7 June, many of whom were working in casinos or small businesses in the Cambodian town. The Thai military’s Eastern Border Command has stated that these measures are aimed at reducing gambling and asserting diplomatic pressure on Cambodia, while ensuring legitimate Thai workers are not unduly affected. As the standoff continues, the future of Poipet’s casino industry, heavily reliant on Thai patrons, hangs in the balance. Adapted by Asean Now from Naewna 2025-06-11

  6. Pictures courtesy of Khaosod. A woman was left unconscious and seriously injured after her vehicle collided at full speed with a bale of compressed paper that had fallen from a lorry in Chachoengsao province on the afternoon of 10 June. The incident occurred on a road running alongside an irrigation canal in Moo 6, Khlong Khuean sub-district, Khlong Khuean district. Emergency services from Khlong Khuean Hospital and local rescue teams were dispatched to the scene. On arrival, responders found large bales of compressed paper scattered across the road. Nearby, a white Honda CR-V was discovered with its front end extensively damaged and its windscreen shattered. The airbag had deployed, and a female driver was found unconscious inside. Rescue personnel used hydraulic cutters to extract her from the vehicle and rushed her to hospital. The victim was later identified as Ms. Thananit aged 45. Approximately 50 metres away from the crash site, authorities located a white Isuzu 12-wheeled lorry registered in Prachinburi province. The vehicle, which had been transporting the paper bales, was being driven by 30-year-old Mr. Thotsaphon. During questioning, Mr. Thotsaphon stated that he had been en route from a paper factory, heading to deliver the load to a cardboard packaging facility in Mueang Prachinburi district, a journey he makes every other day. Just before the incident, he had navigated a mild left-hand bend and was entering a straight section of road when a strap securing the paper bales snapped. As a result, one of the heavy bundles fell off the lorry and into the opposite lane, directly in the path of the oncoming CR-V. The force of the impact caused the woman to lose consciousness and become trapped inside the vehicle. While inspecting the scene, police officers discovered 80,000 baht in cash in a basket at the rear of the woman’s vehicle, along with official road construction documents. Investigations revealed she had just returned from signing a construction contract at the Bang Rong Subdistrict Administrative Office. Police have launched a full investigation into the cause of the crash. All relevant parties are expected to be called in for further questioning as evidence is collected. 8. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A 15-year-old boy suffering from severe methamphetamine addiction was dramatically apprehended by police after stealing his mother’s car and fleeing more than 80 kilometres across Nakhon Ratchasima. The incident began early in the morning of 9 June, in Chumpuang district, Nakhon Ratchasima province, where the youth, identified only as “A” for legal reasons, managed to escape confinement at his home. His mother had chained him by the ankle in a desperate attempt to prevent further outbursts of violent and erratic behaviour fuelled by daily meth use. Having freed himself from the chain, the teenager stole the family sedan and began his journey towards the city of Nakhon Ratchasima. At approximately 17:15, he was spotted by a concerned citizen at a traffic light near Wing 1 Airbase on Highway 304. The caller reported a suspicious young man with shackles on his ankle, appearing disoriented and wearing clothing similar to that of a prisoner. Responding swiftly, Pol. Col. Weenawat Sriyem, Superintendent of Pho Klang Police Station, and his team managed to intercept the vehicle using tactical measures. The youth was taken into custody without resistance. He was found to be in a dishevelled state, exhibiting signs consistent with heavy drug use. Officers provided him with food and water before initiating contact with social workers and mental health professionals. Further investigations revealed that “A” was not facing criminal charges at the time of his escape. According to his mother, the teenager had become increasingly unstable due to his addiction, consuming up to five methamphetamine pills daily. His erratic and sometimes aggressive behaviour had reportedly endangered both his family and neighbours. Authorities disclosed that the teenager had tried to stop at a PTT petrol station in the Chor Hor area during his escape, but he lacked money to purchase fuel or goods. Station staff, suspicious due to his appearance and the visible chain, mistook him for an escaped prisoner and also alerted police. Subsequent drug tests confirmed the presence of methamphetamine in his system. While technically he may face legal consequences, officials from multiple agencies, including the local social development office, psychologists, and public health professionals, have prioritised a rehabilitation-led response over prosecution. The youth has since been transferred to Thepparat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital for initial care, before being admitted to Khon Kaen Rajanagarindra Psychiatric Hospital for long-term treatment and drug rehabilitation. Senior officers, including Pol. Col. Kachen Setaputta, Deputy Commander of the Provincial Police, stressed the need for an integrated approach to youth drug addiction, in line with national policy. They expressed hope that with proper care, the teenager might be reintegrated into society and live a stable life in the future. Adapted by Asean Now from Khoasod 2025-06-11

  10. Picture courtesy of Amarin A dramatic scene unfolded on the morning of 10 June, at Maharaj Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital as emergency personnel worked for hours to calm a mentally distressed patient who had climbed onto the seventh-floor balcony of the hospital’s surgical building and threatened to jump. The incident occurred at approximately 10:30, when a male patient, believed to be around 50 years old, managed to reach the narrow ledge on the building’s seventh floor. Witnesses described the man as disoriented and incoherent, exhibiting signs of severe psychological distress. Rescue teams from the Pracharuamjai Foundation, alongside nurses and hospital staff, attempted to communicate with the man and coax him back to safety. However, due to the precarious location and the man’s unstable behaviour, direct access was not possible. Negotiations continued for more than two hours without success. Hospital administrators then contacted the Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, requesting deployment of a safety air cushion to help prevent a fall being fatal. Talks between emergency responders and the patient were ongoing for several hours, before the man finally returned to safety. In a separate incident occurring around the same time, police in Chalerm Phrakiat District were called to a scene in Moo 3, Thang Phun Subdistrict, where a man had been electrocuted after climbing a high-voltage power pole. Picture courtesy of Amarin. Police identified the deceased as Mr. Veera 63, a resident of Chang Sai Subdistrict in Phra Phrom District. His body was found severely burnt at the base of the power pole. Although no witnesses saw the event unfold, police believe the man had climbed the approximately 40-metre-high pole and came into contact with live transmission wires, resulting in a fatal electric shock and fall. The motive for the act remains unclear, and authorities are currently coordinating with the family to investigate the incident. Adapted by Asean Now from Amarin 2025-06-11

A 43-year-old woman was brutally stabbed to death in a small grocery store in Wang Thong district, Phitsanulok, after being attacked by a man she was reportedly in a relationship with. The victim suffered over 30 stab wounds and died at the scene. Police from Wang Thong Police Station responded to the emergency call near Phinphonrats School, where they found the lifeless body of Ms. Ratchada, 43, inside her store. The suspect, Mr. Wutthipong, 50, a singer at a well-known restaurant in central Phitsanulok, was arrested at the scene after also attempting to attack bystanders who had rushed to help. Initial investigations revealed that Mr. Wutthipong was in a romantic relationship with the victim. However, he claimed to have recently discovered that she was already married. He also stated that he had just learned he was suffering from both HIV and cancer, which caused him significant emotional distress and triggered the violent outburst. On the day of the murder, the suspect reportedly rode his motorcycle from his residence in Tha Takhian to the grocery store run by the victim. Upon arrival, he launched a vicious knife attack, stabbing her 31 times. A neighbour, Mr. Juti, 55, who lives next to the shop, said he heard loud shouting and rushed out to witness the horrifying scene. 14. Picture courtesy of Matichon Authorities have issued arrest warrants for a former Bangkok city council candidate, his girlfriend and two associates in connection with a major illegal e-cigarette smuggling ring. The operation, uncovered during a major raid under “Operation Smoke Out 2”, seized more than 100,000 items with an estimated street value of 70 million baht. The suspects are allegedly part of a large-scale network responsible for the import and distribution of banned electronic cigarettes and related products in the capital. The crackdown was led by the Metropolitan Police Bureau’s investigation teams in cooperation with officers from Police Division 9 and Phasi Charoen Police Station. The Thonburi Criminal Court approved arrest warrants on 7 June for the following individuals: 1. Mr. Ittipon Laosuwatnakul, alias “Worm”, a former candidate for Bangkok’s Huai Khwang District Council representing the Thai Sang Thai Party (Warrant No. 583/2568). 2. Mr. Anusorn Kamsert (Warrant No. 582/2568). 3. Ms. Thanapha Chantharasi (Warrant No. 584/2568). 4. Ms. Thanittha Phattanapan (Warrant No. 585/2568). Police executed raids on two key locations in the Thonburi area of Bangkok, including a condominium in Bukkhalo, where one of the rooms belonged to the former council candidate’s girlfriend. Authorities uncovered further evidence, including disposable e-cigarettes, vaping liquid, 500 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and multiple bank account records. Three additional properties in the Suksawat area were searched, but the suspects remained at large. Investigators believe Mr. Ittipon played a central role in the operation, acting as the key organiser behind the importation and distribution of the illegal merchandise. Evidence suggests this was one of the largest e-cigarette seizures in Thailand, with the first known shipment alone valued at around 90 million baht. Police have contacted the Immigration Bureau and national security agencies to prevent the suspects from fleeing the country. So far, there is no record of any of the four having crossed the border, and authorities believe they are still hiding in Thailand. All four suspects face charges of conspiring to smuggle prohibited goods under the 2017 Customs Act and relevant Ministry of Commerce notifications from 2014 and 2016, as well as Customs Department Notice No. 185/2564 concerning cross-border electronic customs procedures. Police are continuing to track the suspects and are urging the public to report any information that may lead to their arrest. Adapted by Asean Now from Matichon 2025-06-11

A serious road crash occurred late on the night of 9 June in Sadao District, Songkhla Province, involving a pickup truck illegally transporting migrant workers from Myanmar. The vehicle, which was travelling against the flow of traffic, collided head-on with a white Mazda sedan, leaving a total of nine people injured. The incident took place at approximately 23:00 on Kanchanawanit Road, near the entrance to Ban Pad Roi Rai in Tambon Sadao. Police Colonel Surachit Phetchajom, Superintendent of Sadao Police Station, was notified of the collision and arrived at the scene with investigating officers, emergency medical responders from several local rescue foundations, and border security units, including infantry troops and Border Patrol Police. At the crash site, a bronze Toyota Vigo pickup was found severely damaged, its front end buried against a high-voltage utility pole off the road. The right side of the vehicle was heavily crushed. Seven Myanmar nationals, believed to be undocumented migrant workers, were found inside the vehicle, all suffering from injuries and unable to communicate in Thai. Their condition prompted immediate emergency treatment before they were transferred to nearby hospitals. The driver of the pickup managed to flee the scene during the chaos before authorities arrived. A carryboy canopy from the pickup had detached and was found nearby. Also involved in the crash was a white Mazda sedan with Yala registration plates. Two Thai nationals in the car sustained injuries and were assisted out of the vehicle by bystanders. Their vehicle had been travelling normally when it was struck by the pickup, which had emerged from a side street, driving against oncoming traffic. The impact caused the Mazda to skid off the road and crash into a water pipe, which burst as a result. Witnesses reported that the pickup exited a nearby alley at high speed, travelling in the wrong direction. As it approached a U-turn, it lost control and slammed into the oncoming sedan before overturning. Emergency services transported the injured to Sadao Hospital and Padang Besar Hospital. Police have launched a manhunt for the fugitive driver, who may face multiple charges, including reckless driving, transporting illegal migrants, and fleeing the scene of an accident. Authorities continue to investigate the incident and work to identify the driver, while also addressing the broader issue of migrant smuggling in the border province. 18. UPDATE Russian Tourist Assaulted in Pattaya: Leads to Drug Arrests Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A 54-year-old Russian national, identified only as Mr Gurov, filed a police complaint following a violent assault and robbery that left him unconscious in an overgrown vacant lot in Pattaya. The incident, which occurred late on the night of 8 June, has led to the arrest of two Thai men on multiple charges, including possession of illegal drugs. Mr Gurov, who sustained a head injury in the attack, presented himself at Pattaya Police Station’s Khong Dong Tan Branch in the early hours of 9 June. He reported that he had been attacked and robbed in a vacant lot located near Wat Boonkanchanaram. After regaining consciousness, he sought assistance from his wife and friends before going to the police. Officers from Pattaya Tourist Police and local law enforcement reviewed CCTV footage, which led to the identification of the suspects. Later police arrested two men, 40-year-old Paisal and 38-year-old Kitti, at an abandoned building at the entrance to Soi Chaiyapruek 2 in Pattaya. During the arrest, officers discovered 44 methamphetamine tablets and two bags of crystal methamphetamine in the suspects’ possession. During police interrogation, Paisal admitted to the assault, claiming he had left his two-year-old daughter unattended on his motorcycle taxi to relieve himself in nearby bushes. He alleged that upon returning, he saw the foreign tourist inappropriately touching the child. In a rage, he claimed to have struck Mr Gurov on the head with a piece of wood before stealing a ring and a bag, which he reportedly claimed contained no valuables. He then fled the scene. Further investigation revealed that Paisal has a lengthy criminal history, including six prior arrests, four related to drugs and two for theft. He now faces charges of assault, theft and drug possession. His accomplice, Kitti, has been charged with possession of illegal narcotics. Police investigations into the incident are still ongoing, as they do not believe the suspect’s account of what happened. Adapted by Asean Now from Khoasod 2025-06-11

  20. Picture courtesy of Workpoint. A 59-year-old grocery shop owner was stabbed in broad daylight after refusing to process a ฿10 QR code payment due to store policy. The shocking incident occurred, at a small grocery store located near Denchai Condo in Bang Pu, Mueang district, Samut Prakan province. The suspect, identified as Mr. Zen Tan Pai Mu, a 24-year-old man from Myanmar, was swiftly arrested by local police at a nearby workers’ camp shortly after the attack. The victim, Ms. Prayad, recounted the terrifying ordeal and shared CCTV footage from the store to warn others. The footage clearly shows the suspect placing an item on the counter before suddenly lunging forward and stabbing her multiple times. Ms. Prayad bravely resisted, struggling with the attacker until she managed to flee and call the police. According to Ms. Prayad, the altercation began when the man entered her shop and attempted to buy a bottle of Krating Daeng energy drink for ฿10 using a mobile QR payment. She explained that her store only accepts QR payments for purchases of ฿50 or more. He left the store but returned a short while later, attempting again with a bottle of drinking water and receiving the same explanation. Shortly after, the man returned a third time wearing a face mask to hide his identity. He began placing several items, including white liquor and fabric softener, on the counter while pacing the store suspiciously. At one point, he entered the storage area, prompting Ms. Prayad to ask if she could help him find something. When he returned to the counter, he pretended to prepare a QR payment on his phone. Suddenly, he drew a knife and launched a surprise attack, stabbing Ms. Prayad in the face and both wrists before fleeing the scene. Though she was not seriously injured, Ms. Prayad admits to still being traumatised, especially due to the store’s proximity to a large migrant worker camp. She said the attacker had previously visited her store and had never raised suspicion. She hopes her story serves as a warning to other small business owners to remain vigilant. A grim discovery was made this evening of 9 June, in Bangkok’s Bang Khae district when the body of a woman was found stuffed inside a white Honda HR-V with the engine and air-conditioning left running for more than 12 hours. Pol Col Pramot Janboonkaew, Superintendent of Phetkasem Police Station, received the report at around 22:00 and quickly dispatched officers and a rescue team from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation to the scene, a row of townhouses in Soi Phetkasem 67, Lak Song subdistrict. At the location, the vehicle, a white Honda HR-V with Bangkok licence plates, was found parked in the alley. The body of a woman was discovered inside the vehicle. According to neighbours, the car is usually parked in the area, but suspicions arose earlier in the day when a local resident’s son returned home at 11:00 and noticed the car was partially obstructing the road. He was puzzled as the vehicle had been idling with the air conditioning running for hours without any movement. The same neighbour noted that the car’s owner had frequently argued with a woman in the past, who is believed to be the deceased. Initial police investigations suggest the woman was murdered and then placed in the car, which was left running in an attempt to slow decomposition. There are also unconfirmed reports that the suspect was still be at the scene, possibly hiding on the rooftop of one of the adjacent buildings. Police sealed off the area as they conducted a search of the area throughout the night. Adapted by Asean Now from Amarin 2025-06-10

  24. Picture courtesy of Matichon. Immigration authorities have taken legal action against a Chinese national who secretly filmed officers at Suvarnabhumi Airport, allegedly to produce misleading social media content suggesting money could be used to bypass immigration procedures. The video, which has gone viral on Chinese social media platforms, features a man documenting his entry into Thailand. In the clip, he narrates in Chinese, claiming to show “how to enter Thailand” while commenting that immigration procedures were “now stricter.” Footage includes images of Immigration officers, baggage claim areas and scenes outside the airport. At one point, the man implies that “with some money, the staff will help you get through,” and that in Thailand, such services are common, despite a “minor language barrier.” Text was also superimposed in Thai stating: “To work in Thailand without a visa, one must have connections with the Immigration Bureau.” Pol Maj Gen Choengron Rimphadee, Commander of Immigration Division 2, confirmed on 9 June, that action has been taken. He said Pol Lt Col Eknarin Chanthamattharapaskul, Deputy Inspector of the Immigration Entry Division at Suvarnabhumi Airport, had been identified in the clip. Lt Col Eknarin reported that he had merely assisted a Chinese tourist who claimed to be unable to complete the online arrival form (TDAC) due to language difficulties. After helping with the form, the tourist asked to be expedited due to time constraints, and the officer passed the passport for standard screening before returning to his duties. Unbeknownst to him, the tourist was filming covertly from behind and later edited the footage, overlaying misleading narration. Immigration authorities say this caused reputational harm and misrepresented Thailand’s immigration procedures. Pol Maj Gen Choengron stated that the department has recently become more stringent in screening visa-free arrivals, especially from countries where there have been patterns of misuse. From January to May 2025, over 8,000 foreign nationals were refused entry, with a noticeable number of Chinese nationals using social media “challenges” or paid content to claim improper access to Thai immigration services. Authorities view the incident as part of a wider trend of foreign influencers or agents seeking to promote illegal entry or business facilitation through misrepresented ties with immigration officials. On 9 June, Lt Col Eknarin filed a formal complaint at Suvarnabhumi Police Station against the Chinese man, citing defamation through advertising. Immigration officials have also initiated procedures to revoke the man’s visa/permission to stay and blacklist him as a prohibited person. Adapted by Asean Now from Matichon 2025-06-10
