Sak Sitt (38), wanted under four arrest warrants from the Satun Provincial Court dated November 7 and 8, 2024. 2. Somjit (65), also wanted under four arrest warrants from the Satun Provincial Court on the same dates. Both individuals are accused of conspiring to steal property at night, using a vehicle to aid in the theft, and targeting public utility property. The arrests occurred on November 9, on Phetkasem Road, in the area of Khao Yai, Cha-am, Phetchaburi Province, after authorities were alerted to a series of transformer thefts. The thefts were traced back to an incident on September 7, 2024, when local police in Satun arrested a 16-year-old suspect, “Ae,” caught in the act of stealing a transformer. Ae confessed that he had worked with three accomplices, including Sak Sitt (his father), Somjit (his grandfather), and an unnamed 15-year-old girl. The family would travel on a motorcycle sidecar (a “salaeng”) to various locations in the Tanyong Po area of Satun Province, where they would dismantle transformers from utility poles. The stolen parts were then sold to scrap metal dealers in Hat Yai, Songkhla Province, for around 8,000 to 10,000 baht per unit. The family would share the profits to cover living expenses. Ae admitted to having stolen transformers four times, with each sale yielding approximately 40,000 baht. He explained that he learned the process of stealing transformers by watching YouTube tutorials and even helped create the necessary tools for the thefts. The operation led to the arrest of 22-year-old Indian national, Mr. Niraj, who was charged with “establishing and operating a Category 3 factory without permission.” The arrest took place at a warehouse complex located in Plang Yao District, which was found to be leased to various businesses. Initial investigations revealed that none of the warehouses at this facility held the proper licenses for factory operations. Acting on this information, the police, alongside the Department of Industrial Works, obtained a search warrant from the Chachoengsao Provincial Court. Upon inspection, authorities discovered that nine out of ten warehouses at the site were operating as unauthorized factories, primarily focused on recycling activities. In particular, one of the warehouses was used for sorting plastic waste, where Mr. Niraj was found working as an equipment installation engineer. He admitted to setting up and operating machinery but did not possess the required licenses for such activities. The inspection of the premises also revealed hazardous substances, specifically Category 3 hazardous materials, stored in five warehouses. These materials, including heavy metals like lead and arsenic, posed a significant health and environmental risk. A motorcycle taxi driver who witnessed the crash described the moments leading up to it. He recounted seeing the Mitsubishi SUV signaling to turn, when the Toyota Vios suddenly swerved across lanes, crashing directly into the SUV. The force of the collision caused the Vios to overturn. When the witness opened the car door to help, he was hit by the overpowering smell of alcohol, suggesting the driver was heavily intoxicated. In a state of shock, the Toyota driver quickly exited the vehicle and fled the scene. The driver of the Mitsubishi, a foreign national, was fortunately unharmed. Police officers arrived shortly after to document the incident and gather evidence. Both vehicles were eventually removed from the road to clear the heavy traffic congestion. During the flight, Mr. A attempted to sit in a seat designated for crew members near the emergency exit. Following the captain’s orders, the crew managed to restrain him and moved him to a separate area, calming the situation.
