  2. In a shocking display of violence on November 9, a man from Prachinburi stormed his in-laws’ home in Sanam Chai Khet, Chachoengsao Province, leaving their house destroyed and setting it on fire. The suspect, identified as Mr. Montri (surname withheld), targeted his former in-laws and sent them fleeing for their lives along with their 3-year-old grandchild. The incident occurred in Thung Praya Subdistrict, as Mr. Somkiat (61) and Mrs. Boonsut (61), the victimised parents, recounted. They reported that Mr. Montri, who was previously married to their second daughter, Ms. Manas (34), had threatened and attacked the family multiple times. Ms. Manas has reportedly left the area to avoid further harm, as this was the fourth attack since July 2024. The attacks began on July 6, when Mr. Montri destroyed the windows and doors of their eldest daughter’s house. The second incident took place on October 24, when Mr. Montri damaged property around Mr. Somkiat’s home, poured gasoline around the house, and fired multiple shotgun rounds at the house. Fortunately, no one was injured, though the rear of the house and roof sustained damage. The third incident happened on November 6, when Mr. Montri returned to the home, hurled threats, and smashed Mr. Somkiat’s truck. In this the fourth and most severe attack, at 02:00, Mr. Montri poured gasoline around the house and set it ablaze, reducing it to ashes and destroying their motorbike with a sidecar used for selling vegetables. Following these repeated attacks, local police at Wang Khu Station reportedly visited the site, but residents expressed frustration as the investigation has seen little progress. Officers stated they require clearer evidence before proceeding with charges. Despite the family’s insistence that Mr. Montri is responsible, the case remains stagnant, leaving the family living in fear and only able to return during the day to collect vegetables for sale. The incident has left the community shaken, with many residents calling for stricter enforcement and protection to prevent further violent episodes in the area. Picture from responders. -- 2024-11-10
  3. A British man sustained head injuries in a road rage incident with a Thai driver after a minor traffic collision led to a heated confrontation on Pattaya’s busy streets. The altercation took place near the LK Metro Hotel on Soi Buakhao in Pattaya’s Nong Prue district, Chonburi province. Local rescue services were alerted to the scene, where they found Mr. Edwards, a British national, bleeding from a head wound and an open cut on his left arm. He claimed to have been struck with a weapon. Nearby, a Thai driver identified as Mr. Arthit, 35, stood with minor injuries. Rescue workers administered first aid on-site before transporting Mr. Edward to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Witnesses reported that the conflict began with a minor collision at an intersection near Leng Kee on Soi Buakhao, leading both drivers to pull over to resolve the matter. Mr. Edwards had been riding a black Honda Scoopy motorcycle, accompanied by a Thai woman, while Mr. Arthit was driving a white Mitsubishi car. According to eyewitnesses, the drivers followed along side each other until they stopped in front of the LK Metro Hotel, where an argument quickly escalated. Bystanders reported that both men were visibly agitated and unable to reach an agreement. Witnesses stated that the situation intensified as Mr Edwards believed bystanders were taking sides. In the heat of the moment, Mr. Arthit, in a display of anger, reportedly grabbed a metal rod, he later claimed in self-defense and struck Mr. Edwards, resulting in the British man’s injuries. The Pattaya Police are investigating the incident, reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses to determine if charges will be filed. Authorities have urged the public to avoid confrontational behaviour and to settle disputes peacefully, particularly in busy public areas where emotions can easily run high. 6. A violent altercation between inmates at Min Buri Special Prison on November 9, has led to the death of one prisoner and the capture of six others involved. Authorities reported the incident occurred at approximately 09:20. Pol. Lt. Col. Rattanachat Boonsinphrom from the Min Buri Police Station received the report, prompting an investigation alongside Metropolitan Police Division 3 Commander Maj. Gen. Kiattikul Sontharanee, Min Buri Police Chief Pol. Col. Krit Gomnoy, and forensic staff from the Police General Hospital. The incident unfolded beneath the dome in Section 5 of the prison, where corrections officers discovered the seriously injured body of inmate Yutthakarn, a Bangkok resident. Yutthakarn, a convicted criminal, sustained fatal stab wounds. He was rushed to Section 6 for urgent medical attention but later succumbed to his injuries. Six inmates have been identified as the perpetrators of the attack and are now in custody. The accused are: 1. Narong – charged with money laundering 2. Panupong – charged with drug offenses 3. Chokthavee – charged with theft 4. Chatchai – charged with drug offenses 5. Weerayuth – charged with theft 6. Watcharapong – charged with drug offenses The authorities seized several makeshift weapons used in the assault, including two sharpened metal rods with rope-wrapped handles and a spoon modified into a stabbing implement, all of which were retained as evidence. These items were secured after a thorough review of the prison’s surveillance footage, which allowed officers to reconstruct the incident. Preliminary investigations revealed that the dispute arose from prior tensions between two groups of inmates, from Romklao and Nong Chok, respectively. Reportedly, an earlier altercation led to members of the Nong Chok group assaulting Romklao inmates, fueled by accusations that one faction had implicated the other in drug-related arrests outside the prison. Interrogations revealed that Watcharapong, Chatchai, and Weerayuth admitted to initiating the attack in retaliation. Their group allegedly pursued Yutthakarn, kicking and stabbing him repeatedly, which ultimately led to his death. The six inmates now face charges of group assault leading to death and will remain in custody within the prison. Yutthakarn, who was serving a sentence related to assault and illegal methamphetamine use, had been incarcerated following a June 2024 conviction. In response to the incident, prison authorities plan to enforce stricter monitoring and conduct thorough inspections to prevent the use of improvised weapons within the facility. The incident has raised questions about prison security and the apparent leniency that allowed inmates to fashion weapons, prompting renewed calls for improved oversight in Thailand’s prison system. 7. In a major crackdown, Kanchanaburi’s Narcotics Suppression Police, in coordination with the Muang Kanchanaburi Police, local administrative authorities, and special task forces, raided a prominent resort in Koh Samrong, Muang District. Acting on intelligence reports, officials stormed the location where a large group of young men and women had reportedly gathered for a “drug party.” Upon inspection, officers discovered 18 individuals, including 14 men and 4 women, actively participating in a party, with loud music playing and evidence of drug use in progress. Urine tests conducted on all attendees confirmed positive results for drug use. A comprehensive search of the premises revealed various drugs, including 100 methamphetamine pills, 17 ecstasy tablets, and 10 grams of ketamine. The investigation indicated that strict enforcement measures at entertainment venues had driven some young people to organise parties in resorts as an alternative. Authorities believe that these secluded gatherings are becoming a substitute for nightclubs, allowing individuals to evade police monitoring. The arrested individuals have been handed over to the Muang Kanchanaburi Police for further investigation and legal proceedings. Picture from police. -- 2024-11-10

  9. The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), under the command of Police General Chirapop Phuridet, Commissioner of the CIB, along with the Highway Police Division, apprehended two individuals suspected of stealing electric transformers in a coordinated operation. The crime was carried out by a family group, who allegedly learned how to dismantle the transformers from YouTube videos. The arrested suspects are: 1. Sak Sitt (38), wanted under four arrest warrants from the Satun Provincial Court dated November 7 and 8, 2024. 2. Somjit (65), also wanted under four arrest warrants from the Satun Provincial Court on the same dates. Both individuals are accused of conspiring to steal property at night, using a vehicle to aid in the theft, and targeting public utility property. The arrests occurred on November 9, on Phetkasem Road, in the area of Khao Yai, Cha-am, Phetchaburi Province, after authorities were alerted to a series of transformer thefts. The thefts were traced back to an incident on September 7, 2024, when local police in Satun arrested a 16-year-old suspect, “Ae,” caught in the act of stealing a transformer. Ae confessed that he had worked with three accomplices, including Sak Sitt (his father), Somjit (his grandfather), and an unnamed 15-year-old girl. The family would travel on a motorcycle sidecar (a “salaeng”) to various locations in the Tanyong Po area of Satun Province, where they would dismantle transformers from utility poles. The stolen parts were then sold to scrap metal dealers in Hat Yai, Songkhla Province, for around 8,000 to 10,000 baht per unit. The family would share the profits to cover living expenses. Ae admitted to having stolen transformers four times, with each sale yielding approximately 40,000 baht. He explained that he learned the process of stealing transformers by watching YouTube tutorials and even helped create the necessary tools for the thefts. Following the investigation, the police issued arrest warrants for the remaining three suspects. Sak Sitt and Somjit were tracked down while attempting to flee to Bangkok by car. The authorities set up a roadblock and apprehended them on Phetkasem Road in Phetchaburi, before transporting them back to Satun for further legal proceedings. 13. In a recent operation, the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), in coordination with the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Suppression Division (NED), raided an unauthorised Chinese-funded factory in Chachoengsao Province. The operation led to the arrest of 22-year-old Indian national, Mr. Niraj, who was charged with “establishing and operating a Category 3 factory without permission.” The arrest took place at a warehouse complex located in Plang Yao District, which was found to be leased to various businesses. Initial investigations revealed that none of the warehouses at this facility held the proper licenses for factory operations. Acting on this information, the police, alongside the Department of Industrial Works, obtained a search warrant from the Chachoengsao Provincial Court. Upon inspection, authorities discovered that nine out of ten warehouses at the site were operating as unauthorized factories, primarily focused on recycling activities. In particular, one of the warehouses was used for sorting plastic waste, where Mr. Niraj was found working as an equipment installation engineer. He admitted to setting up and operating machinery but did not possess the required licenses for such activities. The inspection of the premises also revealed hazardous substances, specifically Category 3 hazardous materials, stored in five warehouses. These materials, including heavy metals like lead and arsenic, posed a significant health and environmental risk. Consequently, law enforcement seized all machinery and hazardous materials on-site and initiated legal proceedings against the warehouse owners and involved parties. This operation was conducted under the supervision of Pol. Lt. Gen. Jiraphop Bhuridej, CIB Commissioner, Pol. Maj. Gen. Watcharin Poolsit, Commander of NED, and Pol. Col. Winyu Jamsai, Deputy Commander of NED, in collaboration with officers from the Department of Industrial Works. The arrest team, led by Pol. Capt. Nathawat Suranarot and Lt. Piyakamon Saengarom, took swift action to ensure the shutdown of the unlicensed operations, affirming the CIB’s commitment to professionalism, impartiality, and dedication to protecting public welfare. The incident, captured on CCTV, involved a white Toyota Vios and a gray Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, with bystanders witnessing the aftermath of what appeared to be a drunk-driving incident. The incident occurred opposite Krungsri Bank before the Big C Extra intersection and left two damaged vehicles and debris scattered across the road. The white Toyota Vios, with license plate from Ang Thong, was on its roof and had suffered front-end damage. Its windshield was shattered, and the left headlight and bumper were crushed from the impact. Meanwhile, the gray Mitsubishi Pajero Sport SUV, bore significant damage on the right side, from the driver’s door to the wheel well. A motorcycle taxi driver who witnessed the crash described the moments leading up to it. He recounted seeing the Mitsubishi SUV signaling to turn, when the Toyota Vios suddenly swerved across lanes, crashing directly into the SUV. The force of the collision caused the Vios to overturn. When the witness opened the car door to help, he was hit by the overpowering smell of alcohol, suggesting the driver was heavily intoxicated. In a state of shock, the Toyota driver quickly exited the vehicle and fled the scene. The driver of the Mitsubishi, a foreign national, was fortunately unharmed. Police officers arrived shortly after to document the incident and gather evidence. Both vehicles were eventually removed from the road to clear the heavy traffic congestion. 19. In a chilling incident, a 57-year-old local official was found dead in her home in Klong Sam, Pathum Thani, with multiple stab wounds to the neck. Police reported no signs of struggle in the premises or missing belongings. Police Lieutenant Kriengkrai Srimai, an investigator at Khlong Luang Police Station, responded to a report of the woman’s death at her single-story wooden house in Klong Sam, located on a plot spanning over 100 square metres and enclosed by a fence. Upon arrival, police found the woman, identified as Ms. Warakanok, a district officer of the Klong Sam Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, lying in a pool of blood near her refrigerator. She was wearing a traditional Thai cloth wrap and was found with deep cuts to her neck. A fruit knife was discovered on the dining table, and a gold necklace was left on a bathroom sink, indicating that valuables had not been taken. The deceased’s sister, who was the first to discover the body, stated that she heard her sister scream twice around 21.30 on November 9. She rushed over, only to find her sister’s lifeless body, with no intruder in sight. “She was well-liked and had no enemies,” her sister said, adding that her sister’s regular gold necklace was left untouched at the scene. Ms. Warakanok lived in the house with her elderly mother. According to her sister, who lived nearby, there had been no issues at work, nor had she ever experienced personal conflicts. Her son also corroborated this, mentioning that his mother had seemed fine before he left to buy food. He had last seen her around 19.00 when she walked him to the gate, just hours before the tragedy. Lieutenant Kriengkrai Srimai, working alongside forensic teams and medical personnel, documented the crime scene for further evidence. Relatives have been called in for questioning to shed light on any potential leads, and the deceased’s body has been sent to Thammasat University Hospital for a full autopsy. 23. An incident unfolded in the Ratchaburana district of Bangkok when a 41-year-old LGBT man, was found dead in his home after taking his own life. The authorities were alerted to the situation when his family discovered his lifeless body hanging from a beam in his living room. Police and medical personnel quickly responded to the scene. The investigation, led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Tanongsak Plungklang from the Ratchaburana Police Station, revealed that Mr. Ekphong had used an electrical cord to hang himself. Nearby, a chair was discovered, presumably used to support him before he tied the cord around his neck and jumped off. The room where he was found also contained numerous religious artifacts, including Buddha statues, various deities, and several "kumarnthong" (spirit child) figurines. His family described him as a devoted collector of such items, which he believed would bring him good fortune and protection. Mr. Ekphong's father, explained that his son had struggled with depression, particularly after ending a relationship with a man from Vientiane. This emotional turmoil led to previous suicide attempts, including two instances where Mr. Ekphong had jumped from a bridge but survived. Despite seeking psychiatric treatment and taking medication, his condition seemed to worsen. A particularly troubling detail came from Mr. Ekphong's father, who shared his belief that his son may have been influenced by black magic after his failed relationship. He recalled finding a large wooden phallic object (phallus) and black beads in the kitchen, which were not recognised by anyone in the family. He speculated that these items might have been part of a sorcery ritual, which he believed could have contributed to his son's tragic mental state. The family has planned to invite monks to perform a ceremony to dispel any negative spiritual influence from their home. Police and forensic doctors confirmed that no signs of external injury were found on the body, aside from the marks from the electrical cord. No signs of robbery or struggle were found in the house, and the death was determined to have occurred at least six hours prior to discovery. The body has been sent to Siriraj Hospital for a more detailed examination. Once the autopsy is complete, the family will be able to proceed with funeral arrangements. If you or anyone you know is in emotional distress, please contact the Samaritans of Thailand 24-hour hotline: 02 713 6791 (English), 02 713 6793 (Thai) or the Thai Mental Health Hotline at 1323 (Thai).
