  1. Law enforcement officers from the Chiang Rai Immigration Investigation Division, alongside tourist police and other related agencies on November6, pursued and arrested Thiwakorn “Joke” Srisarun, a key member of a network involved in smuggling Chinese nationals into Thailand. The arrest took place on Highway 131, near Chiang Rai’s Eastern Bypass to Mae Fah Luang International Airport. The pursuit follows an arrest warrant issued by the Chiang Rai Provincial Court on October 28, 2024. Thiwakorn was charged under warrant no. J.481/2567 with assisting, hiding, or otherwise helping undocumented foreign nationals avoid arrest. The investigation began on August 21, 2024, when Chiang Rai immigration officers, Border Patrol Police (BPP) 32, and other agencies intercepted two vehicles on Phahonyothin Road in Phan District. The vehicles carried Suradech Tekum, 31, and two associates, along with nine Chinese nationals, including 26-year-old Mr. Xu Teng Feng. Charges were brought against Suradech and his associates for aiding and abetting illegal entry. The Chinese nationals were charged with entering the kingdom without proper authorization. During the arrests, authorities also seized 215 foreign-used mobile phones, computers, multiple SIM cards, and various currencies, suspecting these items were used in scams or call center operations. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of Nopparat “Noeng” Tekum, Suradech’s older brother, on similar charges. The Tekum network was found to facilitate passage for Chinese nationals from Laos to Thailand via Chiang Saen and from Myanmar via Tak. It was also discovered that Thiwakorn frequently booked hotel rooms in Chiang Rai for Chinese nationals, with records showing over 53 bookings totaling 167 rooms between July and September 5, 2024. Surveillance footage confirmed the presence of these nationals in rooms booked under Thiwakorn’s name. On September 20, the same investigative team arrested Sodayu and two others in Chiang Rai while they were escorting 25-year-old Mr. Long Lin Jun from Tak to Chiang Saen. This arrest provided further evidence linking Thiwakorn to the network, leading to charges at Phan Police Station and eventually his arrest today. Thiwakorn has since confessed to all charges, and the case continues as authorities investigate the full scope of the network’s operations. Picture courtesy of Matichon. -- 2024-11-07

  11. An incident at a Bangkok condominium construction site injured six workers, with four in critical condition, after a dust-protection panel fell from the sixth floor. The incident, attributed to possible miscommunication among work teams, led to a temporary suspension of all construction activities. The accident took place around 18:30 on November 6, with Pol. Lt. Col. Sombat Sangmanee of Samsen Police Station responding to reports of multiple injuries at the construction site located on Samsen Soi 24, near Nakhon Chai Si Road in the Dusit District. Police officials, along with medical teams from Vajira Hospital and emergency rescue crews, promptly arrived to provide assistance. At the scene, the fallen dust-protection panel structure had injured six construction workers, including one worker who was severely injured when a steel rebar impaled his chest. Rescue workers used equipment to carefully cut the metal and free him, a process that took over 40 minutes. He was then quickly transported to a nearby hospital for emergency care. The five other workers included three who sustained serious injuries and two with minor injuries. They were promptly taken to local hospitals for treatment. Media access to the site was restricted, with authorities allowing only external observation of the area. Mr. Tussanai, a representative of the construction project, clarified that the accident was not due to a crane or scaffolding collapse, as first believed. Instead, a dust-protection panel from the sixth floor, approximately 18 metres high, detached and fell in three sections. The project is overseen by an experienced contractor, but today’s team was new, beginning their shift at 10:00. This recent personnel change may have led to communication issues, contributing to the incident. Following the incident , the construction company halted operations to allow for a full investigation by relevant authorities, including the Dusit District Office, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, and the Samsen Police. The company also confirmed that it would cover initial medical expenses for the injured workers, who have all received care at nearby hospitals. Pictures from responders. -- 2024-11-07

The arrest was ordered by Pol. Lt. Gen. Thiti Saengsawang, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, and executed by Pol. Maj. Gen. Teeradech Thamsutee and his investigative team. The suspects, identified as Niki Fuku, 45, and Tomi Asai, 26, were detained at a resort in Pong Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province. 16. A police clerk stationed in Pattaya was found dead in an apparent suicide at the Bang Lamung Police Station flats, reportedly driven by financial and personal issues. The deceased, identified as Pol. Sgt. Maj. Peeraphat Rasriratna, was a 30-year-old officer in the Prevention and Suppression Division, who had been recently assigned as the station's daily clerk. The incident was reported to Bang Lamung Police Chief, Pol. Col. Navin Sinthurat, at around 17:30 on November 6. Along with Chonburi Provincial Police Commander, Pol. Maj. Gen. Thawatkiat Jindakornsanuang, forensic officers from Chonburi, and a rescue team from Sawang Boriboon Foundation, authorities quickly arrived at the scene to investigate. At the fourth-floor police residence bathroom, officers discovered Sgt. Maj. Peeraphat with a fatal gunshot wound to the right temple. A 9mm pistol, believed to be the weapon used, was found beside his body. Forensic teams collected evidence at the scene. Initial interviews with close contacts revealed that Peeraphat had come to the room, which belonged to a younger officer, and shortly after entering the bathroom, a gunshot was heard. Investigators suspect suicide, likely due to financial strain. Peeraphat reportedly confided in colleagues that he had recently taken a two-million-baht loan from a cooperative, leading to severe financial stress. Additionally, Pol. Maj. Gen. Thawatkiat noted that the officer had recently gone through a difficult separation from his wife about a month ago and was adjusting to life as a single father. This combination of financial and personal hardships may have contributed to his distress. Peeraphat's sister, Ms. Paweena Ho Prasert, aged 42, who arrived at the scene, described him as a quiet individual who kept to himself and was dedicated to his work. She expressed that she was unaware of the full extent of his struggles or what ultimately led him to take his own life. The incident underscores the pressures faced by police officers in their personal lives, and authorities are investigating further to understand the factors that contributed to this tragic event. 17. UPDATE Russian Woman Admits to Stabbing in Pattaya Market, Citing Love Triangle as Motive A Russian woman has turned herself in to Pattaya police following a midnight stabbing at a local market, alleging a love triangle and long-standing jealousy as the reasons behind her actions. The original report taken from the Thai media, stated the attacker was a male, the victim’s husband, but this was later updated and corrected as new information became available. Miss Luliia, 32, surrendered to authorities at the Pattaya City Police investigation room on the evening of November 6, accompanied by her attorney. The incident, which took place outside the Night Plaza Market in Nong Prue Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, involved Luliia stabbing her fellow Russian national, Miss Natalia, 49, multiple times. The attack left Natalia with serious injuries to her stomach and arms. Following an examination of surveillance footage and witness testimonies, Pattaya City Police and Tourist Police identified Luliia as the prime suspect. She reportedly fled the scene immediately after the attack, but her residence, located just 700 metres from the site, was initially empty when police checked. Eyewitness Kee, who was present during the altercation, noted that as the market was closing, he observed a group of Russian tourists, both men and women, drinking together. Kee saw an argument erupt between Luliia and Natalia. Luliia initially walked away, returning about 10 minutes later to continue the confrontation. Witnesses reported that the conflict escalated upon her return, leading Luliia to attack Natalia with a knife until market vendors intervened. Market officials have since pledged to strengthen security measures to prevent similar incidents, seeking to reassure both vendors and visitors. CCTV footage from 23:55, on November 5 captured Luliia approaching Natalia with what appeared to be a weapon concealed near her waist before launching the assault. Upon her surrender, Luliia confessed to the attack and provided details on her motivation, citing a love affair with Natalia's husband in February 2024 that had been discovered, leading to months of hostility. She alleged that Natalia had confronted her repeatedly and even physically assaulted her on multiple occasions, causing a year-long rift. On the night of the incident, Luliia claimed she initially attempted to greet Natalia and her husband at the market. However, tensions flared, and she accused Natalia of attempting to attack her first. Luliia admitted that she returned to the scene under the influence of alcohol, seeking to resolve the matter but ultimately acted in a fit of anger. The police have yet to file formal charges as they await medical documentation of Natalia's injuries. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. -- 2024-11-07

Lieutenant Colonel Sanan Kotanon, Deputy Investigation Inspector of Pattaya City Police Station (Dongtan Substation), received the report around 00:35 on November 6 and dispatched investigators and rescue personnel from Sawang Boriboon Pattaya Thammasathan to the scene. According to eyewitness accounts, a Russian tourist, identified as Miss Spiridonova (identity unconfirmed), aged 45-50, was enjoying an evening with friends when a dispute with another Russian man turned violent. Witnesses described seeing the man, who wore a white sleeveless shirt and shorts, initially approach the group in a seemingly friendly manner, only for a verbal confrontation to erupt. The suspect left temporarily, returning about ten minutes later. Upon his return, Spiridonova confronted him, pulling his hair. The situation escalated rapidly as the man produced a knife and stabbed her multiple times. Spiridonova collapsed to the ground, covered in blood, with two deep stab wounds on her left side and severe injuries to her left arm. Rescue personnel performed first aid before rushing her to a nearby hospital. Mr. Ki, 33, an eyewitness, attempted to intervene by wrestling the knife away from the suspect. In the ensuing chaos, the suspect managed to flee the scene. Investigators later found a trail of blood and a 30-centimetre knife, which was collected as evidence. Other witnesses reported seeing Spiridonova and her friends enjoying their evening before the suspect arrived with a visibly hostile expression. Though a male companion in the group tried to defuse the situation, both parties became engaged in a physical struggle, which ended with Spiridonova being severely injured. Friends of the victim revealed that the suspect appeared to be jealous, as the victim was his estranged wife. They urged authorities to apprehend him promptly, fearing he might attempt to flee the country. Lieutenant Colonel Sanan Kotanon, now overseeing the investigation, has documented the scene and is coordinating with a search team to locate the suspect. Surveillance footage from the area and along possible escape routes is under review as police continue their investigation to bring the perpetrator to justice. Picture from responders. -- 2024-11-06

  23. Nearly a month has passed since a fatal car crash involving a luxury Maserati driven by a Russian national. The crash took place on October 8 in the Pa Siricharoenwat Forest area of Na Jomtien, Sattahip District, Chonburi. The accident claimed the life of a young Thai technical school student and left his friend critically injured. The lack of progress in the investigation and suspicions of irregularities have raised concerns among the victims’ families. On the evening of October 8, around 19:00, a Russian driver, behind the wheel of a black Maserati, allegedly collided with two Thai students on a motorcycle. The impact killed one of the young men instantly and left the other seriously injured, requiring a two-week stay in intensive care. Witnesses reported that they heard two loud crashes: the first when the car’s tyre reportedly burst, causing it to skid, and the second when it struck the students’ motorcycle. Ms. Kanokwan, the aunt of the deceased, shared her doubts about the official explanation, which alleges that her nephew was driving against traffic. She maintains that her nephew was riding within his lane and had intended to take the main road back to Ban Chang, Rayong. Furthermore, she asserted that tyre marks and other evidence suggest that the Maserati crossed into the wrong lane, causing the crash. The victims’ families have voiced frustrations with the handling of the case. Ms. Kanokwan explained that police have largely disregarded her account and insisted on their initial findings. She even visited the crash site to confirm that the road layout and skid marks did not align with the claim that her nephew was at fault. Ms. Dokkatip, mother of the surviving student, said her son sustained severe injuries, including brain swelling and fractures to both hips. She also questioned why the Russian driver was not detained despite lacking essential documents, such as a license plate, car registration, and an international driver’s license. According to Ms. Dokkatip, the driver’s representative visited her in the hospital and offered financial assistance but avoided providing the necessary insurance documentation, which the family sought to cover medical costs. She expressed frustration, stating, “If they have insurance, why can’t they provide the documents to support my son’s care? Ms. Angkanarat, the mother of the deceased, noted the lack of communication and transparency from the police. She recently visited the local police station, hoping to meet with the investigator, only to find him present despite previously claiming to be out of town. She has since raised concerns about the vehicle’s legality, as it bore no license plate, and the driver lacked proper documentation. The survivor, 17-year-old “Guide,” described the incident to reporters. He recalls seeing headlights suddenly appear in a curve before losing consciousness. He later woke up in the ICU and only learned of his friend’s death from a nurse. Guide stated that they had been riding cautiously due to the rain and stayed in their lane. In response, Police Colonel Wattanachai Sangrit, the officer in charge of the Na Jomtien precinct, assured that the investigation is ongoing. He stated that the delay in filing charges is due to pending forensic reports, aiming to clarify all aspects of the case. Despite these reassurances, the families have called upon the police to expedite the investigation and seek assistance from higher authorities to ensure justice is served. 24. A two-story wooden house in Soi Charoen Krung 99, Branch 10, Bang Kho Laem district, Bangkok, collapsed early morning on November 6, trapping its 64-year-old resident. The building, weakened by years of termite damage, ultimately gave way despite hving previous warnings from local authorities. At approximately 00:50, Pol. Lt. Suchat Changtham, an investigator from Wat Phraya Krai Police Station, received an emergency call reporting the collapse. Rescue teams from the Bangkok Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Ruamkatanyu Foundation, and medical staff from Charoen Krung Pracharak Hospital rushed to the scene to assist. Upon arrival, rescue workers found the two-story structure had completely crumbled within a narrow alley, with debris trapping the resident, Ms. Prakhong beneath a section of the roof. Ms. Prakhong, a retired Ministry of Interior employee, was heard calling for help, pinned by roofing tiles. Rescue teams worked carefully for around 45 minutes, eventually freeing her with only minor shoulder abrasions. Ms. Prakhong described the moments leading up to the collapse, recounting a series of creaking sounds as she lay alone in her second-floor room. Although the noises raised concern, she had not anticipated the building would collapse. She said she believed holding tightly to a protective amulet of King Rama V contributed to her survival. The house, which Ms. Prakhong and her family had lived in for over 55 years, had sustained extensive termite damage, which caused it to lean significantly prior to the incident. Neighbours confirmed that the structure had tilted by as much as 45 degrees, with termites visibly compromising the foundation. Bang Kho Laem district officials had previously advised Ms. Prakhong to demolish the house, citing safety risks, but she had resisted their warnings. Following the incident, Ms. Prakhong urged authorities to secure the site, as valuable possessions remain within the debris. Neighbours expressed similar concerns, noting the prolonged termite infestation that made the structure increasingly dangerous. Local authorities are now investigating the collapse and working to prevent similar incidents in nearby aging structures. Pictures and video from responders. -- 2024-11-06 My Movie.mp4
