A crash claimed the life of a man when he lost control of his pickup truck, overturned and collided with a light pole on the Ratchaburi-Pha Phak Road. The incident took place around 14:20 near Burachat Camp in Koh Phlapphla Subdistrict, Mueang Ratchaburi District. Police Lieutenant Nattaphong Ajam of Mueang Ratchaburi Police Station responded to the accident, along with Ratchaburi Hospital medical personnel and members of the Phathom Borom Rachanuson Foundation. Upon arrival, responders found a white Isuzu pickup truck, license plate from Kanchanaburi, flipped over on its roof in the road’s median. The truck’s front right wheel had detached, and inside the vehicle was the body of the driver, Mr. Nipitphon aged 21, from Dan Makham Tia, Kanchanaburi. The driver was trapped in the pickup and had sustained severe injuries, including deep wounds to his face, head, and wrists, along with fractures in his arms and legs. Blood was visible from his nose and mouth. Nearby, a white Hino truck, license plate from Nakhon Pathom, driven by 53-year-old Mr. Somyot, was also found damaged. Mr. Somyot stated to the police that he had been driving in the opposite lane toward Chom Bueng when he witnessed the pickup truck lose control and strike a light pole. The impact caused the pickup’s detached wheel to collide with his own vehicle’s front, resulting in visible damage. CCTV footage reviewed by the investigating officers confirmed that the pickup was traveling at a high speed when it overturned and struck the light pole and road sign, ultimately coming to a stop in the median with a wheel detached. Mr. Nipitphon was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to the forensic centre at Ratchaburi Hospital for further examination and the police continue their investigation. In a shocking incident captured on CCTV on October 27, two monks from Don Khanak Temple in Nakhon Pathom engaged in a violent altercation, wielding an axe and a knife, which left both men injured. Following the incident, the abbot has barred the monks from re-entering the monastic community. Police Lt. Pisarn Rueangpan, Deputy Inspector of the Nakhon Pathom City Police Station, received a report about the violent encounter and dispatched officers along with the Nakhon Pathom Suksanaranukroh Foundation's medical team to the scene. Upon arrival, authorities found Monk Chatrachai with a severe head injury from an axe blow and transferred him to Nakhon Pathom Hospital. The other involved party, Monk Chairat, aged 60, sustained minor injuries to his forehead. Nearby, blood- stained weapons, including a kitchen knife, a box cutter, and the axe, were discovered. According to Monk Chairat, he reprimanded Monk Chatrachai for improper attire, which reportedly escalated the dispute. Monk Chatrachai allegedly retaliated with a knife, prompting Chairat to defend himself with the axe. Eyewitness Sakchai Tenglue, a temple security officer, initially mistook the altercation for play. However, when the monks began striking each other with weapons, he and another temple member intervened to disarm them and separate the two. Police and emergency responders soon arrived and transported Monk Chatrachai to the hospital for treatment. The temple's abbot, Phra Kru Pathom Kunakorn, acted swiftly following the incident. He defrocked Monk Chairat and informed the authorities, while Monk Chatrachai awaits further recovery and will be defrocked upon his discharge from the hospital. According to another temple member, both monks have a long-standing history of discord, often trading harsh words and criticisms during temple activities. Despite previous warnings from the abbot to resolve their differences, the tension ultimately escalated to violence. The incident, now under investigation, will proceed in accordance with the law. In a dramatic turn of events, a man in Phatthalung bravely drove his pickup truck into a motorcycle that had fired a gun at him, resulting in vehicle damage but no injuries. The motorcyclist fled the scene. At midnight on October 26, police officers, led by Lt. Pakorn Chaiprom from Lam Pam Police Station, arrived at the residence of the deputy village head in Phaya Khan Subdistrict, Mueang Phatthalung District. They were called by Mr. Porntep (surname withheld), 41, who, along with four friends, had been in an Isuzu pickup truck. He reported that an unidentified motorcyclist had fired shots at his vehicle, damaging the passenger door and front bumper. According to Mr. Porntep, he and five friends had been relaxing at Laem Pam Beach before heading home. They noticed a black Vigo pickup being chased and shot at by a motorcyclist but had not been involved in any altercations themselves. When the motorcyclist failed to catch up with the Vigo, he slowed down and began targeting Mr. Porntep’s pickup. The gunman fired again, hitting the passenger door. Mr. Porntep, seizing the opportunity, made a U-turn and rammed his vehicle into the motorcycle, which was now parked on the roadside. The motorcycle sustained significant damage, and the rider fled into a nearby alley. Mr. Porntep immediately sought help from the deputy village head, who called the police. Authorities found a 9mm shell casing and bullet fragments at the scene. Police have identified the suspect and are currently investigating before proceeding with legal action. In a stunning turn of events, Samut Prakan City FC manager, Lagakorn Chanramanee, lost his cool following a tense 0-0 Thai League 2 match against Pattaya United, publicly condemning a segment of Pattaya’s ultra fans and harshly criticising his own team’s supporters. Moments later, he announced his decision to disband the club, sending shockwaves through the Thai football community. The incident took place after the October 26th match at Customs Ladkrabang stadium, leaving Samut Prakan City in 16th place on the league table with only 10 points after 10 games. Following the game, a fiery interview clip was posted on Samut Prakan City’s official Facebook page, capturing Lagakorn’s intense remarks. “The game was entertaining from both sides, and I want to thank the coaching staff of both Pattaya and Samut Prakan for their hard work,” Lagakorn began, commending the efforts made on the field. However, his tone shifted as he described post-game interactions, recounting how his players, while thanking the Pattaya United ultras, were allegedly met with offensive insults targeting their families and backgrounds. “I consider this behavior disgraceful,” he said. “I’m not condemning all Pattaya fans, but I’m denouncing these individuals who have no place in football.” Lagakorn then turned his criticism toward Samut Prakan’s self-appointed head cheerleader, “Pee Odd,” accusing him of undermining team morale. Lagakorn defended his players and staff, placing responsibility for the recent tension on certain fans from Pattaya. Lagakorn’s outburst and the unexpected announcement to disband Samut Prakan City have sparked widespread debate and concern, raising questions about the club’s future and the influence of fan behaviour in Thai football. A young boy’s seventh birthday ended in tragedy in Den Chai, Phrae Province, when he drowned in a pond behind his family’s home. Family members had prepared a birthday cake for him, but the celebration turned into a heartbreaking event when he met with an unexpected accident. Around 18:20 on October 26, the Den Chai Rescue Association received a request from Sai Yoi Rescue for a diving team to assist in the search for the missing child. The boy, a first-grade student from Sankhaburi District, Chainat Province, had returned to visit relatives during school break. His shoes were found left by the edge of the pond, marking the last place he was seen. Rescue teams located his lifeless body submerged in the water and returned him to his grieving family for final rites. The heart-wrenching detail is that October 26 was the boy’s birthday, and his family had prepared a small celebration. Plans were set for him to return to Chainat after the gathering, but he tragically lost his life before he could blow out the candles. A driver returning home late on October 26, discovered a man's lifeless body lying on a rural dirt road in Panat Nikhom, Chonburi, near the Ban Pho district of Chachoengsao. The deceased appeared recently killed, with his throat severely cut and signs of a struggle in the surrounding area. At around 23:00, Lieutenant Thassaphon Chubua, investigator from Panat Nikhom Police Station, received a report of a body found on a dirt road in Moo 10, Sa Si Liam Subdistrict. The scene was secured by emergency responders from Sawang Het Rescue Unit. The victim, identified as Mr. Banyong, 35, a local of Ban Pho, was found lying on his back with one leg crossed over the other. He was dressed in dark clothing, with a shaved head, and lay with eyes open in shock. His throat showed a deep cut, severing the trachea, and his face bore multiple lacerations, with significant blood loss in the area. Close to the body, authorities discovered a large bloodstain, and approximately 11 metres away lay a blood-stained, six-inch wooden-handled kitchen knife, presumed to be the murder weapon. Flattened rice stalks nearby suggested a violent struggle as the victim attempted to escape. The initial report came from Mr. Pricha Promsri, 52, who first spotted the body. "I was driving home and thought I saw some cloth on the road. But as I got closer, I realized it was a body. I immediately backed up and called the community leader," he shared. Police have begun contacting the victim's relatives for questioning and are interviewing locals who knew him. Investigators are also reviewing security footage in the area to gather leads on the assailant, who remains at large. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. -- 2024-10-27

Tank Explosion in Prachin Buri Factory Kills Two, Injures Nine An explosion occurred in a lead-melting tank at a factory in the Bo Thong Industrial Estate, Kabin Buri District, Prachin Buri Province, leaving two workers dead and injuring nine others Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1341789-tank-explosion-in-prachin-buri-factory-kills-two-injures-nine/ -
An explosion occurred in a lead-melting tank at a factory in the Bo Thong Industrial Estate, Kabin Buri District, Prachin Buri Province, leaving two workers dead and injuring nine others. The incident took place at approximately 09:25 on October 26. Pol. Lt. Col. Worawit Wanna, investigating officer from Wang Takhian Police Station, received notification of the explosion at the lead processing plant, which is owned by Chinese investors. Emergency teams, including Kabin Buri’s Sajja Phutthatham Rescue Unit and Prachinburi disaster prevention officials, rushed to the scene. The affected facility, specialising in the production of zinc, lead, tin, and related base products, employs a workforce of 232 individuals (205 men and 27 women). The explosion claimed the lives of two Burmese workers. One worker, identified as Mr. Min Aung, 35, died on-site, while Mr. Thet Wai, also 35, succumbed to his injuries shortly after being taken to Kabin Buri Hospital. Nine other workers suffered hazardous exposure and burn injuries and were promptly treated before being transported to the hospital. Rescue volunteers reported that they initially discovered one fatality and multiple injuries. The blast reportedly occurred while workers were mixing lead and zinc materials, causing a pressure surge that led to a tank cover explosion. Tragically the worker standing around the top the tank fell into the mixer and was fatally injured. Officials from Prachinburi’s forensic unit are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion. The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) has ordered a temporary shutdown of operations within the facility. Initial investigations indicate that the explosion occurred after workers inadvertently exceeded the recommended chemical loads, leading to a violent chemical reaction. Acting IEAT Governor, Mr. Sumet Tangprasert, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and emphasised IEAT’s commitment to a rigorous investigation to prevent similar incidents in the future. IEAT officials have been dispatched to the scene to monitor safety all procedures closely. The factory, which had received its operating permit on January 30, 2024, and began operations on February 2, 2024, under license number 2-61-0-301-00065-2567, is being reviewed for compliance with safety regulations. IEAT has committed to assessing the damage, environmental impact, and providing necessary support and compensation to affected individuals. This incident follows a recent explosion at another chemical facility in Tha Tum, Sri Maha Phot District, Prachinburi, roughly a week ago. The series of incidents has prompted authorities to urge enhanced safety inspections of machinery and processes within local industrial sites to prevent further loss of life and injury. DSI Raids Multiple Locations in Major Intellectual Property Crackdown, Seizing Goods In a significant operation targeting intellectual property violations, the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has conducted raids at multiple locations across Bangkok, seizing merchandise valued at over 60 million baht. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1341790-dsi-raids-multiple-locations-in-major-intellectual-property-crackdown-seizing-goods/ -
In a significant operation targeting intellectual property violations, the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has conducted raids at multiple locations across Bangkok, seizing merchandise valued at over 60 million baht. The operation, led by Police Colonel Yuthana Paendham, the Acting Director-General of the DSI, and Police Lieutenant Colonel Wisanu Chimtrakool, the Deputy Director-General, targeted seven sites known for selling and storing counterfeit goods. Under the guidance of DSI officials, including Police Lieutenant Colonel Pholasun Therdsanguan, Director of the Intellectual Property Crime Division, and other members of the team, the raids were executed following court orders issued by the Intellectual Property and International Trade Court. The targeted sites included popular shopping areas in the Pratunam district, as well as commercial buildings in Bang Khae, Sathorn, and Chom Thong districts. The DSI found approximately 120,000 items of clothing, including counterfeit branded apparel and sports jerseys from famous football clubs, all violating trademark laws. The confiscated goods are believed to infringe upon the Trademark Act of 1991 and its subsequent amendments, contributing to substantial economic losses for the affected brands. The DSI has stated that these actions are part of a broader initiative to combat intellectual property violations in Thailand, aimed at promoting a healthier economic environment and improving the country’s standing in the global fight against intellectual property infringement. Officials emphasized that intellectual property crimes not only violate the rights of trademark holders but also undermine the national economy. All seized items have been handed over to investigators in the Special Case Division for further examination and to serve as evidence in ongoing proceedings under the Special Investigations Act of 2004. The DSI also called upon the public to assist in their efforts to combat intellectual property violations. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activities related to intellectual property infringements through the DSI’s official website. This recent crackdown underscores the DSI’s commitment to upholding intellectual property rights and promoting a fair marketplace for both consumers and businesses in Thailand. The incident unfolded on the night of October 25 in the Nong Bua area of Na Kae District, Nakhon Phanom, where a mentally ill 36-year-old man, identified only as Mr. A, lost his life in a fire that engulfed his home. Authorities believe the man, who had a history of mental illness linked to past drug use, set the fire himself. Local police chief Pol. Col. Sa-nga Inthasathorn coordinated with forensic teams and other officials to investigate the blaze, which destroyed the two-story home, a half-concrete, half-wood structure. The house and all possessions within were reduced to ashes, and a vehicle parked under the house was also destroyed. Authorities later found the man's body in the charred remains on the lower floor, burned beyond recognition. According to police and local residents, the deceased had been living alone after his father's death and his mother's move to work in another province. Previously addicted to methamphetamine, he had been diagnosed with mental health issues that caused frequent episodes of erratic behavior. Neighbours reported that, several months ago, he set fire to two of his own motorbikes during a similar episode. Two days before the fatal incident, he displayed signs of severe agitation. Investigators suspect that his mental state prompted him to ignite some old tyres, which resulted in the blaze that ultimately claimed his life. Authorities are conducting a detailed examination of the evidence and have issued a public reminder urging communities to monitor individuals exhibiting signs of mental instability, particularly those with a history of substance abuse, to help prevent further incidents. Panic swept through Udon Thani on the evening of October 26, as an ammonia gas leak at an ice factory trapped six workers inside, prompting a tense rescue operation. Nearby residents reported difficulty breathing and a stinging sensation as they scrambled to escape the area. At around 18:00, Udon Thani’s emergency response centre, received a report from locals who noticed a strong ammonia odour emanating from an ice factory on Adulyadej Lane in Udon Thani Municipality. Upon learning that six workers were trapped inside, authorities immediately contacted Udon Thani’s police and the Sangsomtham Rescue Unit, alongside municipal disaster relief teams, who quickly arrived at the scene. Rescue teams cordoned off the entire road for safety, advising residents and motorists to steer clear of the area. Using loudspeakers, officials urged people to remain at least 200 metres from the scene to avoid exposure to the toxic gas. Rescuers, equipped with protective suits, entered the factory, successfully sealed the gas valve, and safely evacuated the six trapped workers without injury. One local resident, living adjacent to the factory, described the frightening moments: “The ammonia smell hit us hard. I could barely breathe, and my body was stinging. We rushed out of our homes and called for help.” Fortunately, the quick response by multiple agencies averted a larger crisis in the densely populated area. Picture from responders. -- 2024-10-27
