Despite efforts by paramedics to perform CPR at the scene, he was rushed to Paolo Samut Prakan Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The cause of the accident was a pothole in the road, approximately 80 centimetres wide and 10 centimetres deep. Local authorities have since filled the pothole with asphalt to prevent further accidents. Mr. Nakarin Rattanaprapas, a rescue officer at Samut Prakan Municipality, explained that the initial report indicated a motorbike crash near Black Market. 8. A shocking discovery unfolded in Sisaket after a patient, who had gone missing from a local hospital, was found dead in the backseat of a nurse’s car. The incident occurred on October 21, when relatives of the patient had been frantically searching for her after she disappeared from the hospital. At around 18:00, Lieutenant Ek Saengphet, Deputy Inspector of Investigation at Mueang Sisaket Police Station, received a report of a body found inside a black Honda Jazz car with the license plate from Ubon Ratchathani.” The car was parked on Ubon Road in Mueang Tai Subdistrict, Mueang District, Sisaket Province. The deceased, identified as 53-year-old Ms. Bunthita Sirikul, was discovered in the backseat of the car. It was revealed that the car did not belong to her or her relatives but was owned by Ms. Nantawadee, a nurse at Sisaket Hospital. Ms. Nantawadee explained that she had driven the car to the hospital that morning and parked it near the hospital entrance before starting her shift. Upon returning to her car at around 18:00, she discovered the body inside. She stated that she had no connection to the deceased and had never seen her before. Nantawadee believes that in her haste to enter the hospital, she may have forgotten to lock her car, allowing the woman to enter and pass away unnoticed. The family of the deceased explained that Ms. Bunthita had been suffering from brain atrophy for over two years. On the day of her disappearance, she had been at the hospital for a doctor’s appointment accompanied by her relatives. However, she vanished when her family momentarily left her alone to use the restroom. After an extensive search, they reported her missing to the local police station, but tragically, she was found deceased later that evening. While the family is not suspicious of foul play, the authorities have taken preliminary witness statements and collected evidence from the scene. An investigative team will further inspect the area to gather more details before concluding the case. Picture from responders. -- 2024-10-22

The Volunteer Radio Centre of the Pathum Thani Snake Association was called in to remove an Asian water monitor found in a toilet bowl at a residence in a housing estate near Khlong 2, Soi Bongkot 14, Khlong Luang District, Pathum Thani. When rescue officers arrived, they found the water monitor’s head poking out of the toilet. Using reptile-catching tools, a rescue officer safely pulled out the lizard, which was roughly the size of a child’s arm, bringing relief to the worried homeowners. Mrs. Bong-on, 64, the homeowner, recounted the incident, saying it started around 21.00 when she heard strange noises coming from the bathroom. Her two cats fled the area with distressed expressions, prompting her daughter to investigate. To their shock, they found the water monitor’s head emerging from the toilet. Acting quickly, they shut the bathroom door and called for help. “We are so grateful to the rescue team for handling this,” Mrs. Bong-on said. “We were terrified. This is the second time an animal has come into our home through the pipes, though the first time was a snake, which my children managed to catch themselves.” After removing the lizard, the rescue team installed traps to prevent future incidents. The team advised the family to remain vigilant, particularly in checking pipes and closing bathroom doors to avoid such encounters. Volunteer officer Mr. Montien Nakprasert of the Pathum Thani Snake Association emphasised that homeowners should call professionals if they encounter dangerous reptiles, as handling them without proper experience could lead to injuries. The incident serves as a reminder of a previous shocking case in Bangkok, where a man was bitten by a python while sitting on a toilet, underscoring the potential risks of unexpected wildlife encounters in homes. 21. UPDATE Man Arrested After Setting Three Cars on Fire and Attacking Officer in Bangkok A police operation unfolded on October 21, as officers arrested a 44-year-old man, identified as Pantaep (surname withheld), after he allegedly set fire to three cars and attacked a police officer with a large knife. The incident, which took place in Phasi Charoen district, Bangkok, is believed to have stemmed from the man’s emotional distress. Police from the Bang Khun Thian station were alerted to a fire in a private parking lot on Soi Thoet Thai 55, Thoet Thai Road, Phasi Charoen district. Three vehicles were found completely destroyed by fire: a Mitsubishi Xpander, a Toyota Vios, and a Chevrolet Optra, all with Bangkok license plates. Thankfully, no injuries or fatalities were reported. Investigations found that the fire was deliberately set. Security camera footage revealed Pantaep pouring gasoline on the Mitsubishi Xpander and igniting it with a lighter, causing the flames to spread to two nearby vehicles. A warrant was quickly issued for his arrest. Police Colonel Kritidech Chanpetch, head of the Bang Khun Thian station, led the operation to apprehend the suspect. The arrest took place at his sister’s home, a two-story house located not far from the scene of the arson. Officers employed ballistic shields, forked poles, tasers, and rubber bullet shotguns to ensure their safety during the operation. Lieutenant Colonel Chakraphan Thongsai, who led the tactical unit, recounted that Pantaep attempted to flee by climbing onto the roof of an extension at the back of the house, brandishing a large knife. He swung the knife at Sergeant Major Tosapol Muangkhum, who narrowly avoided the attack but fell from a concrete wall, sustaining minor injuries. Despite being shot with a taser, the suspect continued his rampage, forcing officers to fire rubber bullets. He eventually fell from the roof and sustained minor injuries, after which he was quickly subdued. Upon questioning, Pantaep admitted that he was unemployed and had become addicted to the game “ROV-arena of valour” which he played all day. His frustration and emotional distress led to the violent outburst and the arson attack on the vehicles. He is now in custody at the Bang Khun Thian police station, where he will face legal proceedings for arson and assault. The police investigation is ongoing. 23. The incident occurred early morning on October 21, when a car collided with two motorcycles, leaving two people severely injured. The crash took place at 03:05 on Sukhumvit Pattaya Soi 53, Soi Nern Plub Wan, Nong Prue, Bang Lamung. Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call. At the scene, bystanders had gathered around the wreckage. A grey Toyota Corolla, license plate Chachoengsao, was found blocking the road, with the front of the car and front wheels damaged. The driver, Santi, a 41-year-old air conditioning technician, was unharmed. Nearby, a severely damaged red-black Honda Wave 110i motorcycle, license plate Prachinburi, was discovered. The motorcycle’s front end had been ripped apart, and it was found wedged against an electric pole. Scattered on the road were fast food delivery bags, presumably belonging to Chanon, a 29-year-old food delivery rider. Chanon suffered multiple injuries, including severe lacerations to his face, a broken left leg, and a deep wound on his right foot. He was in serious condition. A second motorcycle, a black Honda Wave 125i with the license plate Amnat Charoen, was also found damaged. It had collided with another parked motorcycle. The rider, Worachai, a 30-year-old from Amnat Charoen, had sustained head injuries and was disoriented, with scrapes across his body. Both injured men were given first aid before being rushed to a nearby hospital. Santi, the driver of the car, claimed that he was driving out of the soi towards Sukhumvit Road when the motorcycles came speeding towards him. He alleged that the first motorcycle attempted to overtake and collided head-on with his car, causing his vehicle to spin into the opposite lane. Both motorcycles fell to the ground due to the impact, and their riders were injured. Witnesses at the scene immediately called for emergency services and the police. One of the witnesses, 17-year-old Piyamas, who was helping her family near the crash site, recounted the event with shock. She stated that both the car and the motorcycles were speeding, but it appeared that the car had crossed into the oncoming lane, leading to the crash. Another witness, 22-year-old Anawin, corroborated her account, confirming that the car had overtaken into the wrong lane, striking both motorcycles. A friend of Santi, who was in the car at the time of the crash, admitted that the driver had been drinking prior to the crash. He also acknowledged that Santi had been speeding before colliding with the motorcycles. However, he stressed that if his friend was at fault, he should face the consequences, but urged the authorities to review CCTV footage to ensure fairness. Police Lieutenant Chanchai Sangwonsaksri of the Nong Prue Police Department photographed the scene and took Santi into custody to measure his blood alcohol level. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities checking CCTV footage to determine the exact cause of the accident and ensure justice for all parties involved. 25. A young man driving a modified pickup truck lost control at a sharp curve, crashing into a utility pole and died at the scene. The incident occurred around 10:00 on October 20, on Samo Thong Road, near Soi Samo Thong 9, in Chanthaburi province. Police from the Mueang Chanthaburi Police Station, doctors from Phra Pok Klao Hospital, and volunteers from the Sawang Katanyu Chanthaburi Rescue Foundation were dispatched to the site of the crash. Upon arrival, they found the wreckage of a black, modified Toyota pickup truck with license plate from Chanthaburi. The vehicle had veered off the road at a sharp bend and crashed into the base of a utility pole. The driver’s side of the truck was heavily damaged, with the bonnet forced open by the impact. A street sign near the pole had also been knocked down and was lying next to the vehicle. Inside the wrecked truck, rescue workers discovered the body of a 24-year-old man, later identified as Mr. Watcharaphon (surname withheld), a resident of Tha Chang, Chanthaburi. His body was pinned against the driver’s side door due to the force of the collision. Rescue personnel had to use hydraulic tools to carefully extract his body from the wreckage. Authorities observed long skid marks, about 20 to 30 metres in length, on the road, indicating that the driver had attempted to brake before the crash. Preliminary investigations revealed that Mr. Watcharaphon had just left a friend’s house in Tha Chang municipality and was heading home, where he operated a small grocery store located about 2 kilometres from the accident site. As he approached the sharp curve, he lost control of his vehicle, which then slammed into the utility pole, resulting in his death. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the accident. Picture from responders. -- 2024-10-21
