July 30, at 16:30, officers from Bang Lamung Police Station, along with rescuers from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation, Pattaya City, equipped with rescue vehicles and ambulances, rushed to investigate and assist following a report of a Chinese tourist bus rear-ending a six-wheeler truck. Several injuries were reported. The incident occurred on Route 36 (Krathing Lai – Rayong) heading into Pattaya, between Km 5+500 and 5+400, in Nong Pla Lai Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. At the scene, a white Chinese tourist bus was found with front-end damage. The driver, aged 44, was injured and given first aid by rescuers before being transported to Bang Lamung Hospital. Thirteen Chinese tourists were on the bus: 3 men, 7 women, 1 boy, and 2 girls, all in a state of shock. Two tourists sustained injuries and were given first aid before being transferred to their hotel by another bus. Beside the bus, a black PCX motorcycle was found overturned on the roadside. The rider, aged 42, was injured and also taken to Bang Lamung Hospital after receiving first aid. In front of the Chinese tourist bus, a six-wheeler box truck had sustained minor damage. The driver, aged53, was unharmed. Initial investigations revealed that the motorcycle, which had exited the far-left lane, lost control on sandy terrain and crossed into the path of the six-wheeler truck in the middle lane. The truck driver attempted to swerve to the far-right lane to avoid the motorcycle, which then collided with the central barrier. The tourist bus, heading towards a Pattaya hotel in the far-right lane, failed to brake in time and rear-ended the truck, which had swerved to avoid the motorcycle. Police will conduct a further investigation before proceeding with legal actions. https://sattahip-news.com/2024/07/30/ระทึกรถบัสนักท่อเที่ย/

On Sunday, July 28, at 07:00 Mr. Pornchai Wijitthammaniphan, the Livestock Officer of Trat Province, along with officials from various departments, including provincial administration, disaster prevention and mitigation, the Trat Marine Task Force, and related agencies, provided assistance in relocating pigs from a flood-affected farm in Ban Khlong Khut, Village No. 2, Huai Raeng Subdistrict, Mueang Trat District, Trat Province. A total of 1,200 pigs, aged just over 2 months, were moved to higher ground in preparation for relocation to a farm owned by a company in Wang Nam Yen District, Sa Kaeo Province. This pig farm, which had been under flood surveillance and preparedness inspections by the Trat Provincial Livestock Office since Wednesday, July 24, 2024, was heavily impacted due to its proximity to Huai Raeng Canal, a low-lying area. Continuous heavy rainfall over several days led to the current flooding situation. https://www.fm91bkk.com/newsarticle/34155

Not saying your wrong, but if he was testing the depth of the water, why partially remove the lid, as there is a hole in the centre of the lid to use.
-
Sorry, I have no idea, but it is quoted in the 2 reports I have seen. My only thought was it may have been used to help lever the concrete lid to the side.

At 17:45, on July 27, Police Lieutenant Nathipong Jiamphuak, an investigator from Nong Prue Police Station, received a report of a Thai man who had fallen into an abandoned well in Soi Lung Kia, Moo 9, Pong Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District. Upon receiving the report, he went to the scene with the rescue unit from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation, Pattaya. Upon arrival, officials inspected the abandoned well, approximately 8-10 meters deep, located in a cassava plantation. A large cement cover was partially opened at the mouth of the well. Nearby, they found a pair of sandals and a five-meter-long wooden stick. The body of the deceased, identified as a 55 years old, was found submerged in the well. The rescue team and divers from Sawang Boriboon Foundation had to use ropes to lower themselves into the well, then dive to retrieve the body, taking nearly an hour to complete the recovery. The deceased’s sister, recounted that she saw her brother leave the house around noon with a long wooden stick. She didn't think much of it at the time. After an hour, she noticed his prolonged absence and began searching for him but couldn't find him. Eventually, she discovered his sandals near the well’s opening, along with the wooden stick he had taken from home. She also mentioned that a few days prior, he had been suffering from severe joint pain due to gout, which caused him a great deal of distress. Police Lieutenant Nathipong Jiamphuak disclosed that the preliminary examination showed no signs of foul play. It is suspected that the cause of death might be suicide, possibly due to health issues. However, a thorough investigation and further questioning of the relatives will be conducted before the body is released for religious rites. Picture from responders.

New runway at Suvarnabhumi Airport sparks emergency drill
Georgealbert replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Please what are the concerns about the Thai air traffic control systems? The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) Thailand downgrade in 2015 was based on three critical areas: airworthiness of aircraft, airman licensing and airline operator requirements Air Traffic Control in the Bangkok FIR (Flight Information Region) is under Aerothai (Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Ltd) and in 2023 it dealt with 718255 commercial flights. Control is divided into 8 sections (Sectors), which consists of 32 international routes (ATS Air Traffic Services Routes- International), 37 domestic routes (ATS Routes – Domestic), and 26 Area Navigation (RNAV) Routes Sector 1 in the upper southern region of the country Sector 2, the eastern region and lower northeastern region of the country Sector 3 in the southeastern part of the country Sector 4 in the western and lower northern regions of the country Sector 5, the southern region of the country on the western coast Sector 6 in the lower southern region of the country on the eastern coast Sector 7 in the upper northern region of the country Sector 8 in the upper northeastern region of the country https://www.aerothai.co.th/sites/default/files/files/document/2023 AEROTHAI Annual Report_ENG_e-book_Final.pdf -

New runway at Suvarnabhumi Airport sparks emergency drill
Georgealbert replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
These types of exercises are regular occurrences and the recent Singapore Airlines turbulence incident, clearly shows that these training and drills are working at Suvarnabhumi. This emergency exercise was observed by CAAT (Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand), which will fully document and record the details for any future audit, and will need to ensure full compliance with ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) standards, Annex 1, Personnel Licensing, Annex 9 Facilitation, Annex 11 Air Traffic Services, Annex 14 Volume I - Aerodromes, Annex 17 Security and Annex 19 Safety Management. Thailand is currently due FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) inspection to confirm compliance with international safety standard, to see if the country can be raised back to FAA Category 1 (CAT1) from Category 2 (CAT2), which has been in place since 2015. Emergency response at airports is not on the list of failings that need addressing. Picture from AOT.
