The accident occurred late on the evening of 25 May in Yang Chum Noi district, Sisaket province. Police Lieutenant Watcharawit Phoprom, deputy investigator at Yang Chum Noi Police Station, was alerted on the morning of 26 May to the discovery of a body and a motorcycle submerged in a pond along the road connecting Ban Kut Mueang Ham and Ban Khon Kam. Rescue teams from the Ruam Jai Sisaket Foundation, together with local villagers, recovered the body of the deceased, later identified as Mr. Atithep “Oat”, a 22-year-old resident of Ban Kut Mueang Ham, along with his blue Honda Wave 110i motorcycle from the 1.5-metre-deep pond. Mr. Samorn Kaewphakdee, 59, the local resident who discovered the scene, said he had been out walking in the fields early that morning when he noticed unusual damage to a tree and marks resembling tyre tracks leading into the pond. On closer inspection, he suspected a vehicle may have gone off the road and immediately notified local authorities and police. According to family members, Mr. Atithep had returned to his hometown just days earlier to attend the traditional Bun Bang Fai rocket festival. On the night of the incident, around 19:00, he informed relatives he was heading out to drop his girlfriend off and would be returning shortly before travelling back to work in another province. When he failed to return, his family believed he may have already left for work. Sadly, he was discovered dead the following morning. Medical examiners have taken the body for a full autopsy. 4. Picture courtesy of Matichon. The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has submitted a proposal requesting a budget of 2 billion baht to upgrade the country’s rail infrastructure as part of the government’s 157 billion baht economic stimulus package. Mr. Weerisit Amrapal, Governor of the SRT, revealed that the plan aims to address weaknesses in rail structures across various regions nationwide, where certain sections are vulnerable to subsidence, landslides, and flooding. These issues pose safety risks to rail operations. The project also includes improvements to railway crossing barriers and signalling systems. “The proposed projects cover several areas, including reinforcing bridge foundations to increase load-bearing capacity, constructing retaining walls to prevent soil erosion, installing drainage systems to mitigate flooding, and strengthening areas at risk of natural disasters such as landslides. These measures will ensure the rail infrastructure is safe and reliable for continuous train services,” said Mr. Weerisit. He added that the initial budget request totals 2 billion baht to commence these upgrades. The proposal was formally submitted to the Ministry of Transport. However, the allocation of funds is subject to government approval and prioritisation and project scopes may be adjusted depending on budget constraints. The SRT is prepared to revise details in line with government policies to ensure the stimulus plan can effectively support economic recovery. Adapted by Asean Now from Matichon 2025-05-27.

  6. Picture courtesy of Amarin. An 80-year-old woman who went missing in the dense forest of Khao Nok Kra Jib, Phetchaburi, has been found after enduring harsh conditions including sun and rain while waiting for help. Mrs. Chuen Hringruam, a resident of Nong Pha Thaen village, Cha-am district, went missing on the morning of 25 May while foraging in the forest area of Khao Nok Kra Jib near Ban Don Khun Huai, Phetchaburi. A large-scale search operation involving the village headman, rescue teams from Sawang Sanphet, highway police and over 50 local volunteers was launched immediately, but the woman was not found throughout the day. In the late afternoon of 25 May, the rescue team, led by Mr. Angkarn Jiamtua, head of the special task force of Sawang Sanphet rescue, along with Mr. Udompong Sanmuang, director of Ratchaburi Disaster Response Centre, deployed a heat-detecting drone over hundreds of rai of forest in an attempt to locate Mrs. Chuen. During the search, local villagers from Ban Khao Luk Chang, who were also foraging, encountered the elderly woman around 16:00. She reassured them that she was accustomed to walking in the forest and was not lost. They offered her water and a mango to eat before parting ways. It was only later realised that she had in fact been missing. Relatives, who had joined the search, discovered her abandoned fertilizer sack about two kilometres from the point where she was last seen. Continuing their search into the night, villagers finally located Mrs. Chuen near the Awadon Khun Huai ravine around 21:00. She was found injured, having fallen on a hillside and been stung twice by wasps, which forced her to abandon her sack and flee for safety. Exhausted, she was resting near a local shrine about 3 to 4 kilometres from where she first went missing. Rescue workers promptly provided first aid and carried Mrs. Chuen down the hill on a stretcher before rushing her to Cha-am Hospital. Her condition is reported as stable. Mr. Montree Muangsawasdi, headman of Nong Pha Thaen village, said the search efforts were hampered by heavy rain, making conditions difficult. Upon finding Mrs. Chuen, she was suffering from leg and eye injuries and was unable to walk on her own. He expressed gratitude to all the rescue teams, local villagers, and volunteers for their dedicated efforts in finding and assisting her. Adapted by Asean Now from Amarin 2025-05-27.

  8. UPDATE Driver Surrenders After Crash Kills Father and Son in Nonthaburi Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A van driver has surrendered to police after a road crash claimed the lives of a father and his young son in Nonthaburi. The driver, 40-year-old Mr. Chaiwat Paikhiew, turned himself in at Sai Noi Police Station, following mounting pressure and online speculation linking his vehicle to the fatal crash. The crash occurred around 22:00 on 24 May on Liab Khlong Na Mon Road, Moo 1, Khlong Khwang Subdistrict, Sai Noi District. Mr. Tiwa Boromsatit, 40 and his 7-year-old step son were riding a motorcycle when they were struck by a black van with red licence plates, reportedly driven by Mr. Chaiwat. Both victims died at the scene. Initial reports indicate that Mr. Chaiwat, an employee of a private company based in Kamphaeng Saen, Nakhon Pathom, was returning from a client drop-off in Bang Na when the incident occurred. He stated that he was unaware at the time that the collision had resulted in fatalities and drove the damaged vehicle back to the company’s premises before returning home. The link to the incident was made after a company security guard noticed damage to the van and alerted the owner. Upon recognising the vehicle in online news reports and matching the distinctive red licence plate, the company contacted the authorities and the victims’ family. Ms. Angkhana Promketchan, 35, the niece of Mr. Tiwa, confirmed that the company had reached out and pledged to take full responsibility for the incident, citing that the vehicle was insured. Mr. Chaiwat arrived at the police station with the van, which displayed damage on the front right wheel arch consistent with a collision. He expressed deep remorse for the tragedy and said he intended to personally apologise to the victims’ family at the temple. He also declared his intention to ordain as a monk after the legal proceedings conclude, in a gesture of repentance and to make merit for the deceased. Police have pressed three charges against Mr. Chaiwat: 1. Reckless driving causing death, 2. Failing to stop and assist after a traffic accident, 3. Driving in a manner considered dangerous to others. Authorities allowed him to return home temporarily and will bring him before the Nonthaburi Provincial Court on 27 May, to request formal detention pending further investigation. Ms. Prachid Srichainat, 76, the mother of the deceased, expressed grief and resignation, saying, “My son is gone. What else is there to say?” Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-05-27.

  10. Picture courtesy of ThaiRath. Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has teamed up with Google to launch an innovative project using artificial intelligence (AI) to manage traffic lights more efficiently across the city, aiming to ease congestion and reduce harmful PM2.5 air pollution. The initiative, known as Project Green Light, began in February 2025 and has already been implemented at over 50 key junctions throughout Bangkok. By harnessing Big Data and real-time AI analysis of driving behaviour, the system optimises traffic signal timings to better suit varying traffic conditions throughout the day. According to Mr. Ekwaranyu Amrapal, BMA spokesperson, the intelligent traffic management has reduced vehicle stops by up to 30%, minimising stop-and-go congestion and improving overall traffic flow. This smoother movement is also expected to cut greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 10%, contributing to cleaner air in the capital. The BMA is also utilising Probe Data gathered from GPS tracking on mobile devices to analyse travel origins and destinations. This data helps refine traffic signal patterns and lane management, particularly at major intersections such as Ratchathewi, Rama IX, and Taksin Bridge, where trials have already begun. “We are committed to leveraging technology seriously to enhance daily commuting for residents,” said Mr. Ekwaranyu. “By integrating Big Data and AI, we tailor traffic signals to reflect real traffic conditions. Should any area still experience issues, we encourage the public to report them via the Traffy Fondue app, so we can address problems directly.” This collaboration marks a significant step towards smart city initiatives, balancing urban mobility and environmental concerns for a healthier Bangkok. A dispute ended in fatal stabbing early morning on 26 May, in Samut Prakan province, after a woman, fearing for her safety, claimed to have accidentally and fatally wounded her husband during a struggle. At approximately 02:00, police from Samrong Nuea Station were alerted to a stabbing incident on Sukhumvit Soi 78. Officers, accompanied by emergency rescue workers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, rushed to the scene. They found a severely injured man, later identified as Mr. Saiaungthein, aged 26, a Myanmar national, lying unconscious by the roadside. He had deep lacerations beneath his chin, on the left chest, and abdomen. Despite prolonged CPR efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Around 50 metres away, police discovered a pool of blood and a sharp knife outside a nearby house. The knife was collected as evidence and the area was secured pending forensic investigation. Mrs. Nanlaungkham, 25, the deceased’s wife, also from Myanmar, told police that her husband had been drinking at a local bar. When she went to retrieve him, an argument broke out. She intended to stay at a hotel until he calmed down, but during a confrontation, he brandished a knife. Trying to wrest the weapon from him, she stated she accidentally stabbed him. An eyewitness, Mr. Aekpong Damnoen, 30, described seeing the man collapse outside a shop with heavy bleeding. The wife explained that her drunken husband had been violent towards her, leading to a struggle for the knife, which resulted in the fatal injuries. Police have recorded statements from both the wife and the eyewitness and are continuing their investigation. The case will proceed under the law. Adapted by Asean Now from Amarin 2025-05-27.

The damaged white Honda remained lodged against the motorcycle following the crash. Authorities swiftly arrived at the scene to secure the area and initiate an investigation into the circumstances of the collision. Initial investigation suggests that the car struck the rear of the motorcycle as it was traveling in the same direction and in the far left lane. The impact pushed the motorcycle and the passengers some distance along the road. The surviving victim was reportedly thrown by the force of the impact into the car’s windscreen. 16. UPDATE Run For Destination 2025: Sign Company Blames Organisers for Errors, Organisers Point Finger Back Picture courtesy of Amarin. The company responsible for producing the event’s signage has publicly revealed that it had warned the organisers about errors in the artwork, including incorrect dates, logos, and banner sizes, before printing. Despite these objections, the organisers insisted on proceeding with the flawed design. The sign company explained on social media that it received the final files late on 21 May and although they promptly flagged the mistakes, the organisers authorised printing anyway due to time constraints. The company also confirmed it delivered the signs on the morning of the event but was not responsible for installation, which was left to the organisers’ own staff. In a phone call to the sign company on race day, the organisers reportedly blamed the signage errors for the lack of participants showing up, claiming the incorrect date discouraged runners. The sign company expressed frustration over being held responsible for the event’s failure, emphasising they had no intent to mislead and had followed the client’s instructions. Meanwhile, event staff involved in the event had arrived on the morning and even set up drink stations, as they had not been told of any problems. Most of whom were unpaid and connected through tutoring networks, expressed concern about potential legal repercussions following the sudden cancellation and poor organisation. In a related statement released by MK Restaurant Group, a sponsor of the event, firmly denied any involvement in the race’s organisation or its cancellation. MK emphasised it had provided only financial support and condemned the last-minute failure that caused harm to runners and stakeholders. The company is reportedly preparing legal action against the event organisers. The “Run For Destination 2025” debacle has left many runners disappointed and sparked calls for greater accountability in event management and sponsorship transparency. Police are investigating complaints filed by participants who feel misled and let down and legal action may follow. Adapted by Asean Now from Amarin 2025-05-27.

  18. Picture courtesy of Amarin. A forest ranger from Mae Wong National Park has sustained serious injuries after being charged by a wild gaur during a routine patrol in the heart of the park. The incident occurred on 24 May around 13:00, in the Khao Bot forest area, located within Chum Ta Bong District, Nakhon Sawan Province. The injured ranger, Mr. Sriwichai Sakkaphattanakorn, was acting as the point man during a patrol team’s forest sweep, a role requiring him to walk approximately 20 metres ahead of the team to scout the route and provide early warnings. This method follows standard forest patrol procedures set by the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation. As Mr. Sriwichai approached a bend in the path, he unexpectedly encountered a wild gaur resting behind a large fallen log. Startled, the gaur reacted defensively, charging at him before he had time to escape. Despite his attempts to evade the attack by circling a tree, the gaur caught up with him and inflicted deep injuries on his right buttock. Other patrol members, who heard the commotion, rushed to the scene and found Mr. Sriwichai collapsed on the ground. They administered first aid and coordinated a safe evacuation from the forest. Officials later transported Mr. Sriwichai to Sawanpracharak Hospital in Mueang District, where he is currently receiving treatment. According to Mr. Chaiya Danpho, Director of the Office of Conservation Area 12 (Nakhon Sawan), the ranger is now in a stable condition and out of danger. As initial support, the Department of National Parks’ central administrative office has provided Mr. Sriwichai with emergency welfare assistance totalling 50,000 baht from the department’s welfare fund. Additional aid from external foundations and related organisations is being coordinated, pending further documentation from the ranger’s unit. Adapted by Asean Now from Amarin 2025-05-27.

A liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanker overturned on the morning of 26 May, on Phetkasem Road southbound near Ban Wa Thon, Khlong Wan subdistrict, Prachuap Khiri Khan, blocking traffic and causing a congestion stretch of approximately 10 kilometres. The crash occurred around 6:30 am at kilometre marker 320+270. The truck lost control, colliding with a central guardrail before tipping onto its right side in the rightmost lane. One man was reported injured. Prateep Boriboonrat, Deputy Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan province responsible for disaster prevention, arrived at the scene to coordinate the response alongside provincial energy and highway officials. To ensure public safety and facilitate recovery, authorities closed both directions of Phetkasem Road at the crash site. Traffic was later, limited to a single lane when the scene was deemed safe, with vehicles released intermittently to avoid secondary collisions while awaiting heavy lifting cranes. Two large cranes were deployed to right the truck, with firefighters and local rescue teams on standby. Water spray continued around the truck to suppress any possible gas release and help disperse released vapour. During the recovery operation, officials detected a gas leak from a pipe joint on the LPG tank. Officers at the scene confirmed they were able to successfully sealed the leak. The tanker was lifted back onto its wheels and all LPG was transferred to another tanker. The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Adapted by Asean Now from Workpoint 2025-05-27.

  22. Picture courtesy of Workpoint. A landowner in Ban Bueng District is preparing to lodge a formal complaint for trespassing after an unidentified party dumped a vast quantity of children’s toys on private land behind Wat Mao Suka (Mongkonsawat) in Moo 4, Nong Sam Saak Subdistrict. The toys, mostly new and still in their packaging, quickly attracted throngs of local residents who flocked to the site with sacks to collect the items for their children or to donate to others. The location in question is a privately owned waste disposal area, which has a clearly posted sign stating that only construction debris is accepted, explicitly prohibiting the dumping of rubbish, foam and all types of chemical waste. A contact number for coordination is also displayed, though no one contacted the owner before dumping the toys. At the site, locals had already taken many of the toys. The remainder, according to the landowner, had since been buried with a tractor. The landowner, who insists they were unaware of who deposited the toys and received no prior communication, stated that they would be filing a police report at Ban Bueng Police Station and submitting evidence to support a legal case for trespassing. Further details were withheld pending police investigation. The unexpected discovery sparked much speculation among local residents. Many questioned why the toys, almost all in excellent condition and clearly never used, had not been donated or sold. Some suggested they may have come from a warehouse whose lease had expired, leading the owner to dispose of the stock hastily. The incident gained wider attention after a local Facebook page, Chonburi News Executioner, posted images and a message alerting the public: “Someone dumped brand-new toys here. Plenty to go around if you have children.” The post went viral, prompting dozens of people to descend on the site in hopes of collecting toys. Mr. Bandit, a motorcycle taxi driver who arrived at the scene, said he saw the news online and came to pick up toys to donate to underprivileged children. “It’s such a waste to see perfectly good toys thrown away,” he said. A tractor operator on the site, responsible for land levelling, said he had no idea who dumped the toys but allowed locals to collect them first after seeing the growing crowd. One resident, Mr. Prakit Sae Tae, came with his child and left with two sacks full of toys. “Some will be for my son, and I’ll give the rest to other kids in my village,” he said. “I even gave the tractor driver 100 baht for fuel, it’s more than worth it for what we got.” Despite the goodwill and cheer among those who benefitted from the find, the landowner has made it clear that the dumping constitutes illegal trespass and has vowed to pursue the matter through legal channels. The local police investigation is expected to focus on identifying who was responsible for the illegal disposal. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-05-27.

  24. Picture courtesy of Khaosod A devastating incident in Mukdahan claimed the lives of a husband and wife on the morning of 26 May, when a large tree fell onto their vehicle, crushing it beyond recognition. Miraculously, their 16-year-old daughter, seated in the back of the pickup truck, survived the ordeal with minor injuries. Police from Nikhom Kham Soi Station were alerted to the incident, which occurred on the road between Ban Nong Nok Khian and Chokchai Subdistrict, directly in front of Phu Lom Khum Temple in Nong Nok Khian Village, Rom Klao Subdistrict. Rescue teams rushed to the scene and discovered a white Toyota Hilux pickup truck, registration from Mukdahan, with the cabin completely crushed and windows shattered. The bodies of the male driver, Mr Supot, 54 and his wife, Mrs Thonglek, 49, were found trapped in the front seats. Their daughter, who was sitting in the rear cabin, sustained only minor injuries. Emergency responders used hydraulic rescue equipment to extract the victims from the wreckage and rushed the injured teenager to Nikhom Kham Soi Hospital for treatment. Authorities also worked to clear the massive fallen tree from the road to restore traffic flow and prevent further incidents. According to police investigations, the family had set off early in the morning to visit a sick relative at the district hospital. It is believed that the tree toppled over suddenly due to saturated soil conditions following overnight rain. The tree struck the front section of the vehicle directly, leaving the parents with no chance of survival. A witness, who was first on the scene, reported seeing the fallen tree moments before discovering the wreckage. “I was driving home when I saw the tree had come down across the road. I ran over to check and saw the front of the vehicle had been completely flattened. The young girl in the back was conscious but shocked,” he said. Authorities suspect that the tree collapsed due to heavy and persistent rainfall throughout the night, which caused the soil to soften. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-05-27.
