  1. Pictures from responders. A driver was rescued from the wreckage of a pickup truck after it crashed into a tree and was ripped apart, in Ban Hong district, Lamphun province, on 24 March. The vehicle, fully loaded with pineapples, scattered its cargo across the scene. Emergency responders from Pa Phlu Subdistrict Administrative Organisation Rescue Unit rushed to the scene near the entrance of Ban Huai La Village, Moo 3, Pa Phlu Subdistrict, Ban Hong District, after receiving a report of the collision. Police from Ban Hong Police Station were also informed. At the crash site, rescuers found a Toyota Hilux pickup truck completely wrecked after colliding with a roadside tree. The vehicle was severed in two, with the truck bed detached from the main body. The driver was found trapped behind the wheel and was quickly extricated before being transported to Ban Hong Hospital for treatment. Preliminary investigations revealed that the pickup was heavily loaded with pineapples and was en route to Ban Hong. It is believed that the driver, who was travelling alone, fell asleep at the wheel, causing his vehicle to swerve across lanes and crash violently into the tree. The force of the impact split the truck in half, leaving pineapples strewn across the area. Bystanders initially feared the worst, but the driver was fortunate to survive the dramatic incident. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident and have urged motorists to remain cautious, especially when transporting heavy loads over long distances. -- 2025-03-25

The raid, conducted at 23:30, on 21 March, was led by Pol. Col. Rattanon Ekthitikulphat, Superintendent of Thonglor Police Station, along with several senior officers and an investigative team. Acting on intelligence from an informant, officers raided an unregistered room on the third floor of the Pentacle 2 building, located on Soi Saeng Ngern (Thonglor 25), Khlong Tan Nuea, Watthana District. Police arrested nine suspects, including six South Korean men, one South Korean woman, and two Thai men. They seized several gambling-related items, including: • Two decks of playing cards • 160 blue poker chips (valued at approximately 160,000 baht) • 130 orange poker chips (valued at approximately 130,000 baht) • One “All-In” poker token • A ledger tracking chip exchanges • Four mobile phones (iPhones and Samsung models) • 50,000 baht in cash The investigation revealed that Mr Chen Yong Sung (33), a South Korean national, was the main organiser of the illegal poker games. He was responsible for securing the venue and managing chip exchanges. Ms Hyuna Kang (30), also South Korean, acted as the dealer, while the remaining individuals, including the two Thai men, were gamblers. Thai suspect Weerawat (34) admitted to also acting as a doorman, ensuring only known players were allowed entry. The operation was run through bank transfers via PromptPay and Bangkok Bank accounts, both registered under Ms Kang’s name. According to Mr Chen, the illegal poker den had only been in operation for one night before the police raid. The organisers had expected to handle around 200,000 baht in gambling transactions that evening. Authorities have charged Mr Chen and Ms Kang with “organising illegal poker gambling for financial gain.” The remaining seven suspects have been charged with “participating in illegal gambling.” All suspects, along with the confiscated evidence, have been handed over to Thonglor Police Station for further legal proceedings. -- 2025-03-24

He then forced an employee to place gold necklaces from the display cases into his bag before calmly walking out of the store. The entire incident took less than 60 seconds. The stolen items included: • Three 20-baht gold necklaces • Two 15-baht gold necklaces • Seven 10-baht gold necklaces The total weight of the stolen gold was approximately 160 baht , with an estimated value of 7.8 million baht. After taking what he wanted, he walked out and left on a motorbike taxi.” Another witness, a shopping centre employee, said he was collecting trolleys near the gold shop when he heard someone shout that the store had been robbed. The suspect, identified as Thanit Nuthongkaew, was found to be under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident, with a urine test confirming the presence of narcotics. The fire broke out late at night on 22 March, at Nikom Phatthana Phang 42 School in Udaicharoen, Khuan Kalong district. Authorities reported that six separate locations within the school were set ablaze, causing significant damage. However, thanks to the swift response of responders, school staff and local residents, the fires were extinguished before spreading further. Following the incident, authorities reviewed CCTV footage, which showed a man entering the school at 23:10 and moving towards the rear of the premises. Police later arrested Thanit at his home, approximately 300 metres from the school. Officers reported that he appeared confused and incoherent at the time of his arrest. Local officials revealed that Thanit was a known drug user who had previously exhibited erratic behaviour. This was the second time he had targeted the school, with a previous incident involving vandalism. Witnesses also recalled occasions when he had wandered onto school grounds carrying a machete, forcing the 60 students to seek shelter indoors. His grandfather, Thin Nuthongkaew, expressed concern over his behaviour, stating that Thanit frequently experienced severe hallucinations, believing that stones he collected were sacred relics. “He stays outside most nights, talking to himself and refusing to sleep indoors,” Thin said. “Everyone in the family is afraid of him, but we don’t know where else he can go.” Thanit had been arrested once before on drug-related charges but had never undergone rehabilitation. Following the incident, Satun Deputy Governor Kanit Kongchuay visited the school to reassure staff and students. He urged schools across the province to remain vigilant and implement emergency response plans in case of similar threats. “Thanks to the quick thinking of teachers, parents, and local residents, the damage was contained,” he said. “But all schools must stay alert and report any suspicious activity immediately.” Police have taken Thanit into custody at Khuan Kalong Police Station for further questioning as they continue their investigation into the motive behind the attack. -- 2025-03-24

  22. Picture courtesy of Khoasod. A street cleaner in Udon Thani was left in shock after what appeared to be a discarded doll turned out to be the lifeless body of a young woman. The grim discovery was made early morning on 23 March, under a mango tree near a apartment block, in the Makkhang area of Mueang Udon Thani district. At around 06:30, Police Lieutenant Vilasinee Asanam, an investigator at Mueang Udon Thani Police Station, received a report from a municipal street cleaner about a woman found hanged under a mango tree. Officers, along with rescue workers from Sawang Methatham Foundation and a medical examiner from Udon Thani Central Hospital, rushed to the scene. The deceased was identified as Miss Thanaporn, a 20-year-old woman who was blind in her left eye. She was found wearing a long-sleeved shirt and a short skirt, with signs suggesting she had died the previous evening. Upon searching her rented room, police discovered her identification card, a disability certificate, and medication for anxiety treatment, leading to speculation that she may have suffered from depression. A lost ID report was also found in the room, bearing the name of a 27-year-old man, Mr. Tasporn, believed to be her boyfriend. However, a key piece of evidence remains missing. CCTV cameras installed at the scene were found to be non-functional, leaving authorities uncertain whether the woman’s death was a case of suicide or foul play. A resident of the apartment complex recalled seeing the woman’s boyfriend arrive on a motorcycle around 20:00 the previous night, calling out her name. This was a common occurrence, with the boyfriend often visiting. However, on this occasion, he only called once and was not seen again. Mrs. Damrongsin, a 54-year-old municipal street cleaner, recounted her shocking experience. “I was sweeping as usual when I noticed something hanging from the mango tree. At first, I thought it was a doll. But as I got closer, I realised it was a person. I was terrified and ran to tell my husband, who was working nearby, to call the authorities immediately. I’ve never seen anything like this in my life, I still have goosebumps.” Authorities have taken the woman’s body to Udon Thani Central Hospital for further examination. Meanwhile, police plan to summon the woman’s boyfriend for questioning to determine the exact circumstances of her death. The case remains under investigation.
