  1. Pictures courtesy of Sattahip News. Police Colonel Patikorn Sornchai, Deputy Commander of Chonburi Provincial Police, presided over a firearms training exercise aimed at enhancing the skills and readiness of police officers from Sattahip Police Station. The session took place at the Naval Special Warfare Command’s shooting range in Samae San, Sattahip District. The refresher course focused on the handling and use of handguns and shotguns, with the objective of improving accuracy, confidence, and overall preparedness during high-risk operations. Leading the reception and coordination was Police Colonel Komsan Kumtunkaew, Superintendent of Sattahip Police Station, who welcomed the Deputy Commander and oversaw participation from 32 officers. In his address, Pol. Col. Patikorn stressed the increasing dangers faced by police officers in the line of duty, particularly during anti-narcotics operations, where suspects often resist arrest. He emphasised that regular training is essential to reducing the risk of injury or death among law enforcement personnel. “Training is a vital tool to help officers become more confident and competent in using firearms. With regular drills and skill development, officers are better equipped to protect themselves and the public while carrying out their duties effectively,” he stated. The training session included a live demonstration by both the Deputy Commander and the Sattahip Police Chief, who showcased precise shotgun techniques to the attending officers. This initiative forms part of the broader strategy to ensure that police officers remain physically and mentally prepared for the challenges of modern policing, especially in high-threat scenarios involving drug-related crime. Well-known social media tattoo artist Sarawut “Namwan Laiphrang” was arrested at his home in Bang Bua Thong district on 14 May, following a police raid that uncovered illegal drugs and an unlicensed firearm. Police from Bang Bua Thong Police Station, led by Pol. Col. Phrut Jamrungratsan and supported by a special operations unit, executed a search warrant at the 45-year-old suspect’s residence in Moo 7, Bang Bua Thong Subdistrict, after receiving a tip-off about possible drug activity at the premises. During the search, officers discovered a loaded .32 calibre revolver, five rounds of ammunition, and two orange methamphetamine tablets. Mr Sarawut, known online as “Namwan Laiphrang,” was immediately taken into custody and escorted to Bang Bua Thong Police Station for further questioning. Upon interrogation, Sarawut admitted that the gun belonged to him and had been purchased from a friend for 10,000 baht, claiming he kept it for self-defence. He also confessed that the methamphetamine was for personal use, stating that he regularly consumed several tablets a day. Sarawut, who operates a tattoo parlour out of his home, also revealed a history of drug offences, stating that he had previously been arrested five times in Nonthaburi province. He once belonged to the same gang as another notorious tattooed figure, “Keng Laiphrang.” Since his release from prison, he has cultivated a significant online following, amassing more than 200,000 followers on Facebook. Pol. Col. Phrut confirmed that Sarawut faces charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition without a permit, along with violations of the Narcotics Act. Authorities have also seized three motorbikes found on the property to verify whether they were legally owned. Investigations are ongoing to trace the origins of the firearm and drugs, as well as any further illegal activities connected to the suspect. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-05-15.

  6. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. Authorities in Udon Thani are investigating a mysterious fire that broke out late at night on 13 May, at a traditional Thai-style house belonging to a well-known local politician. Initial findings suggest the blaze may have been caused by a candle left unattended, but arson has not yet been ruled out. The incident occurred at approximately 21:00, in Chaiwan District. Emergency services were alerted when flames were spotted engulfing the upper floor of the large wooden house, located on a three-rai plot in Moo 2, Ban Chaiwan. The house, built entirely of timber and supported by 15 large wooden pillars, sustained significant damage before firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control. Local residents notified firefighters from the nearby Chaiwan municipal office, who arrived promptly and prevented the fire from consuming the entire property. An estimated 30% of the structure was damaged, with the loss valued at around 300,000 baht. Mr. Bandhoon Narisarangkoon, Chaiwan District Chief, and Pol. Col. Rattapolchai Phensongkram, Superintendent of Chaiwan Police Station, visited the scene alongside forensic investigators to determine the cause of the fire. Authorities noted that the house had been disconnected from the power grid for two to three months, making an electrical short circuit an unlikely cause. The politician who owns the house, currently overseas on a work trip, explained to reporters that he had inherited the home from his late mother. While he no longer resides there, the property was handed over to his two younger brothers for maintenance. He believes the fire may have started from a candle left burning while his nephew, who stays in the house, was out. “I don’t believe it was arson,” he said. “The house is old, all wood, and if a candle was left unattended, it could have easily caused the fire. I will return on 19 May to inspect the property myself.” Pol. Col. Rattapolchai confirmed that while the fire was successfully contained, the exact cause remains under investigation. “We’re not ruling out any possibilities. Whether it was accidental or intentional will be determined after a thorough forensic analysis,” he stated. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-05-15.

  8. Pictures courtesy of Khoasod. Local residents were left stunned on the morning of 14 May, after a gruesome discovery at the Nong Bua pier in Chanthaburi province. A man’s decomposed body was found floating face-up in the canal, entangled in the propeller of a moored fishing boat. Police Lieutenant Chakkrakit Saengchan, an investigator from Mueang Chanthaburi Police Station, accompanied by forensic officers from Phra Pok Klao Hospital and volunteers from the Sawang Katanyu Chanthaburi rescue unit, responded to the call at approximately 06:30. The body was found floating near the pier behind the Nong Bua Food Market, with the right arm still hooked around the rudder of the fishing boat. Rescue personnel secured the body with rope and brought it ashore via the pier’s access steps. Preliminary examination revealed that the deceased was a man dressed in a long-sleeved blue shirt and cream-coloured trousers. No identification documents were found on the body. Notably, the man bore a tattoo on his left ankle and another with sacred script across the middle of his back. There were no visible signs of injury or foul play, and forensic experts estimate that he had been dead for approximately three days. A local resident who discovered the body said she was taking a routine early morning walk by the pier when she noticed what appeared to be a large clump of water weeds or floating rubbish entangled in the boat’s rudder. Upon closer inspection, she realised it was a human corpse, prompting her to alert a former municipal councillor, who then contacted police. Investigators noted that the man’s appearance and clothing did not suggest he was a fisherman or a local resident. The cause of death remains under investigation. The body has been transported to Phra Pok Klao Hospital for an autopsy, and efforts are underway to identify the deceased and contact any relatives to aid in the investigation. 10. Picture courtesy of Matichon. In a harrowing incident that has shaken the community of Phayakkhaphum Phisai district in Maha Sarakham province, a 41-year-old man has been arrested for the brutal murder of his 84-year-old father. The body, found in a septic tank behind the family home, had been concealed for three days. The discovery was made on the afternoon of 13 May after Mr Thongsai, the elder son of the deceased, noticed a swarm of flies near the septic tank while preparing to take a tractor out to the fields. Upon closer inspection, he made the gruesome discovery of his father’s body and immediately alerted the police. According to Pol. Col. Chatchai Maiwanta, superintendent of Phayakkhaphum Phisai Police Station, officers arrived promptly and detained the suspect, Mr Sombat, who was found inside the house in an intoxicated and incoherent state. A long-barrel shotgun and a curved blade believed to be the murder weapon were recovered from the scene. Preliminary questioning revealed that Mr Sombat admitted to killing his father, Mr Boonram, following a heated argument. The dispute is believed to have stemmed from a confrontation over Mr Sombat’s refusal to assist with ploughing the fields. Enraged, he allegedly attacked his father with the curved blade, severing his right hand, a wound thought to have been inflicted as the elderly man tried to defend himself, before repeatedly striking him, causing fatal injuries to the face and body. After the murder, Mr Sombat is believed to have waited until nightfall before dragging the body to the rear of the property and disposing of it in the septic tank. Police have charged him with murder of a parent and concealment of a corpse. Relatives have since revealed that Mr Sombat had a long history of drug use and mental illness, and had previously undergone psychiatric treatment. He was known to have violent outbursts when off his medication and frequently quarrelled with both parents. Despite the family’s fears, no one expected the situation to escalate to such horrific violence. Mr Thongsai, the victim’s elder son, recounted that the father had asked Mr Sombat to help with ploughing but was refused. When Mr Sombat also withheld the tractor keys, Mr Thongsai had duplicate keys made and hired outside help to complete the job. Days later, after their father went missing and suspicions grew, the family launched a search, only to finally discover the body in the septic tank. Bloodstains marked the bedroom where the attack took place and the septic tank, just metres away from the living quarters, now serves as a haunting reminder of the incident. Despite claiming confusion over the incident, Mr Sombat did admit to reporters, “It’s happened a few times. He tried to hurt me… I don’t know what to say. After I slashed him, I put him in the septic tank. I’ve never used drugs. I didn’t think it would end like this. I do feel guilty.” Authorities continue to investigate the case, and the community has called for the justice system to pursue the matter to its fullest extent. Panic broke out at a forest ranger outpost in Chiang Mai’s Chiang Dao district after a ranger opened fire on his colleagues, injuring two, before being shot and apprehended by police. Fellow officers suspect the shooter may have been suffering from hallucinations brought on by alcohol or drugs. The incident occurred on 14 May at the Phatang Forest Protection Unit, located within the Doi Chiang Dao Wildlife Sanctuary. Officers from Chiang Dao Police Station responded to reports of a shooting at the ranger station following an emergency call from the site’s radio unit. Two people were injured in the incident: Mr. Pichet, 39, head of the Phatang unit, was shot in the left shin, while Mr. Chawalit, 40, another ranger, was shot in the foot and toes. Both were quickly rushed to Chiang Dao Hospital by colleagues. The suspected gunman, Mr. Sathaporn 36, was found at the scene in a dazed, incoherent state, armed and attempting to flee into the forest. Police attempted to approach and subdue him, but when he raised his weapon in resistance, officers shot him once in the side in self-defence. The bullet passed through his torso, and he was immediately taken to Chiang Dao Hospital for treatment. Initial investigations revealed that Mr. Sathaporn had returned from a night patrol earlier that morning and was later seen consuming alcohol at the checkpoint shelter. When other officers arrived for duty handover, they noticed him drinking but did not intervene. Without warning, Mr. Sathaporn allegedly pulled out his pistol and began firing at his colleagues, approximately six or seven shot, striking two people. Witnesses said he appeared drunk and muttered to himself before opening fire. As others scrambled for cover, the gunman stayed at the scene, showing no intent to escape. Police have seized the weapon and ammunition used in the shooting and are continuing their investigation to determine the exact motive behind the attack. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-05-15.

  13. UPDATE Ukrainian Woman Re-Arrested in Phuket After Failing to Appear in Court Over Damaged Rental Property Picture courtesy of Phuket Police. A Ukrainian woman has been re-arrested in Phuket after allegedly failing to attend a scheduled court hearing in connection with severe damage caused to a rented condominium in the Wichit area. The 20-year-old woman, identified only as Mrs Anastasia, was previously apprehended at Phuket International Airport after the owner of a local condominium reported extensive vandalism to their property. The damage, which reportedly included broken fittings, defaced surfaces, and general destruction, was estimated at around 350,000 baht. Following her initial arrest, Anastasia confessed to the offence during police questioning and was formally charged with property damage. However, as the arrest took place on a public holiday, she was temporarily released with instructions to appear in court at a later date. She subsequently failed to attend the hearing, prompting investigators to obtain an arrest warrant from the Phuket Provincial Court. Wichit Police, acting on the warrant, launched a search operation and eventually located the suspect at a condominium in the Wichit area on 13 May. She was immediately taken into custody and transferred to the court. Citing concerns about her previous attempt to evade legal proceedings, the court has ordered Anastasia to be remanded in custody while further investigations continue. A deeply disturbing incident occurred on 14 May, in the Bang Phli district of Samut Prakan province, when a monitor lizard was discovered carrying what appeared to be the remains of a human infant in its mouth. Emergency services were alerted at approximately 12:55, after a passerby spotted the large reptile clutching part of a small body near Soi King Kaew 28, in Racha Thewa sub-district. Rescue workers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation swiftly arrived at the scene to assess the situation. Upon investigation, officials confirmed the remains to be that of a newborn baby. It is believed the infant had been recently abandoned. Rescue teams found the severed head and partial shoulder of the child near a building wall, while the rest of the body, including the torso and legs, was reportedly dragged underneath a structure by the monitor lizard. The grim discovery has shocked local residents and authorities alike. Officials say the condition of the body suggests the child had been deceased for some time before being discovered by the reptile. Local police have launched an urgent investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death and abandonment. Forensic experts will examine the remains to establish whether the baby was stillborn or died after birth. Authorities are also reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area in hopes of identifying any suspects who may have been involved in discarding the body. Monitor lizards, known locally as “tua ngern tua thong,” are a common sight in many parts of Thailand and can grow to significant sizes. While they are generally not aggressive to humans, they are opportunistic scavengers and are known to feed on dead flesh when available. As of the latest reports, the infant’s identity remains unknown. Authorities urge anyone with information about the case to come forward. Adapted by Asean Now from Matichon 2025-05-14.

The fatal collision occurred at approximately 13:00, on the inbound Burapha Withi Expressway, at kilometre marker 28 in Bang Bo district, near the Khlong Phra Ong Chao Chaiyanuchit Bridge. The Burapha Withi Expressway traffic control centre received a report of a serious collision and promptly dispatched rescue units, including the Poh Teck Tung Foundation. Upon arrival, emergency responders found a privately-owned van with Bangkok registration, severely damaged at the rear and resting against the left-side barrier. Beneath the vehicle, they discovered the body of Mr. Winai Mion, who had died instantly after being struck and his body thrown under the van. The other vehicle involved, a white six-wheeled Isuzu lorry with Chanthaburi plates, was found nearby with damage to its front-left side. The lorry driver, Mr. Sarayut Sapsor 36, remained at the scene and cooperated fully with police. Alcohol testing confirmed that he had not been drinking at the time of the incident. Mr. Sarayut told police he had been driving in the left lane when the vehicle in front of him suddenly swerved to avoid the broken-down van. Unable to react in time, he collided directly with the rear of the stationary van. Mr. Winai had exited the vehicle and was standing at the back when he was hit and crushed. Traffic authorities closed off the left lane temporarily, resulting in significant congestion stretching for several kilometres. Mr. Winai’s body has been sent to the Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra forensic institute for examination. Police have recorded the incident and will notify the deceased’s family. 21. Picture courtesy of Kaoded. A violent altercation broke out in Pattaya after a group of youths stormed a motorcycle repair shop and assaulted its owner, reportedly in retaliation for an overnight storage fee dispute and a refusal to service a motorbike. At around 13:00 on 13 May, Pol. Lt. Col. Pakorn Muensikeaw of Bang Lamung Police Station received a report of an assault involving a group of teenagers at a motorbike garage in Soi Khao Noi, near the railway tracks, Nong Prue Subdistrict. Police patrol units were immediately dispatched to the scene. There they found Mr. Woramet Nilket, 27, the owner of the garage, with head injuries and visible bruises. The shop itself showed clear signs of a struggle, tools and equipment were scattered and damaged. According to Mr. Woramet, the incident stemmed from an argument the previous night (12 May). Two teenagers had pushed a broken motorbike to his shop around 22:40, but as the garage had already closed, he advised them to leave the bike overnight so he could inspect it the next day. The owner of the bike later phoned in the morning to ask about the repair, but was told the shop hadn’t yet reopened. The bike was then taken elsewhere. Mr. Woramet said he charged the bike owner a 100-baht storage fee, which led to a heated argument. The young man allegedly threatened him, saying, “You’ll see what happens next.” Later a group of teenagers, including the bike owner, returned to the shop and violently assaulted him. Fortunately, the entire incident was captured on the shop’s CCTV system. Footage shows a youth in a white shirt pushing the bike to the shop on the night of 12 May, speaking briefly with the owner’s partner, before being picked up by another motorcycle. The following afternoon, the same individual returned with a group to carry out the attack. Initial police investigations confirmed the involvement of approximately ten male and female suspects. Officers are using the CCTV footage as key evidence in the case and have encouraged the victim to file an official complaint to pursue legal action. The suspects remain at large as police continue their investigation. Adapted by Asean Now from Kaoded 2025-05-14.

  23. Picture courtesy of Amarin. In an unusual undercover operation, cyber police officers disguised themselves as Buddhist monks to arrest the operator of a Facebook page selling illegal firearms online. The sting operation was part of an ongoing crackdown on the illegal arms trade across the country. The arrest was announced at a press conference, on 13 May, on the ground floor of the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau’s Division 2 (CCIB), led by Police General Thatchai Pitaneelabutr, Director of the Police Cyber Taskforce, and Police Lieutenant General Trirong Phiewphan, Commander of the CCIB, alongside senior officials. The operation stemmed from orders issued by Lt. Gen. Trirong, directing officers to intensify efforts to combat the online sale of firearms. Officers from Sub-Division 2, Division 3, CCIB, subsequently discovered that a Facebook user named “Do Thanased” was posting in public groups offering guns for sale. Police Colonel Arunphan Vanichchanan, head of Sub-Division 2, authorised a covert plan, with Police Lieutenant Colonel Anothai Deeying and a task force coordinating with Region 4 investigators to carry out the operation. An officer posed as a recently ordained monk participating in a traditional summer ordination programme and contacted the suspect to purchase a firearm for 22,000 baht. A meeting was arranged at a petrol station in Kosum Phisai district, Maha Sarakham province. As planned, the suspect, identified as Mr. Jaruwat, arrived in a black pickup truck and contacted the undercover officer, instructing him to approach the vehicle. Upon confirming the presence of a genuine firearm, the monk gave a signal to officers lying in wait, who moved in to arrest the suspect. A subsequent search uncovered three handguns: a black 11mm Colt semi-automatic pistol, a black 9mm Norinco semi-automatic pistol, and a white .22 calibre Astra Cadix revolver. Police also seized 20 rounds of 11mm ammunition and 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition. Mr. Jaruwat was charged with multiple offences under the 1947 Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives, Fireworks and Imitation Firearms Act, including illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and carrying weapons in public without permission. The suspect confessed to all charges and is currently in custody awaiting further legal proceedings. Authorities affirmed their commitment to dismantling online weapons networks and bringing all those involved to justice. Adapted by Asean Now from Amarin 2025-05-14.
