  3. Picture courtesy of SiamChon. An Australian tourist has filed a police report in Pattaya after claiming he was robbed by a Thai woman he had invited back to his hotel room. The incident occurred in the early hours of 8 May, at a hotel in Central Pattaya. At approximately 01:10, Mr Keith William Dobie, a 65-year-old Australian national, arrived at Pattaya City Police Station to lodge a formal complaint with Police Sub-Lieutenant Akkarapong Saenputawong, the duty investigator. Mr Dobie reported that 350 AUD and approximately 3,500 baht in Thai currency had been stolen from him. According to local civil defence volunteers,, the foreigner was found near Pattaya Beach in a distressed state, shouting for help from passersby while seated in a wheelchair. He claimed that a woman had stolen money from his room and then fled. Volunteers reported that the suspect was seen near the beach wearing different clothing, presumably in an attempt to avoid recognition, but Mr Dobie was able to identify her, but she ran off. Mr Dobie told police that he had first met the woman on the beach while pushing his wheelchair. The two engaged in friendly conversation, which led to him inviting her back to his hotel room. After returning to the hotel, he went to take a shower. When he emerged, the woman had disappeared, along with the cash he had left in his trouser pocket. The incident has been formally recorded in the police daily log. Investigators from Pattaya City Police have been dispatched to collect evidence and locate the suspect for questioning. Police have not yet confirmed whether the suspect has been apprehended. The investigation continues. Adapted by Asean Now from SiamChon 2025-05-08.

  5. Picture from responders. A 46-year-old man lost his life after being stung by a swarm of bees while attempting to collect honey from a raised water tank structure in a rural village. The incident occurred at approximately 11:10 on 7 May, in Ban Pa Fang, Village 4, Mueang Pon Subdistrict, Khun Yuam District, Mae Hong Son Province. Local police from Khun Yuam Police Station received a distress call reporting a man stranded on the village’s water tank structure, believed to be unconscious. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered the man, later identified as Mr. Weerayut Kantathip, hanging motionless off the side of the tank. According to local witnesses, Mr. Weerayut had climbed the structure to harvest honey from a wild beehive located near the top of the water tank. In the process, he was viciously attacked by a swarm of bees and lost consciousness, falling and hanging from the structure. Emergency rescue personnel from the Mueang Pon Subdistrict Administrative Organisation (SAO) were dispatched to attempt a recovery. However, efforts to reach Mr. Weerayut were severely hampered by the aggressive nature of the bees, who continued to swarm the area and pose a danger to rescuers. It took approximately two hours before the rescue team could safely retrieve Mr. Weerayut’s body from the structure. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigating officer, Pol. Lt. Booncherd Chaiyanan, Deputy Inspector at Khun Yuam Police Station, coordinated with a physician from Khun Yuam Hospital to perform a preliminary examination. Authorities have extended their condolences to the family and urged the public to exercise caution when approaching wild beehives, especially during the warmer months when bee activity intensifies. 7. Picture courtesy of Amarin A dramatic high-angle rescue operation took place in Lampang province on the afternoon of 7 May, after a local welder fell and became stranded atop a 20-metre-high grain silo at a rice mill in the Mae Yao area of Ko Kha district. The man, identified as Mr Odd, aged 35, suffered a broken right arm in the fall but was safely rescued after a tense two-hour operation. The incident occurred around 14:00, when Mr Odd, a steelwork contractor from Ko Kha, was welding a roof frame above the grain silo. According to initial reports, he had climbed a fixed ladder up the 20-metre-tall structure to carry out the task. While attempting to ascend a further 4 metres to reach the precise welding point, he slipped and fell, landing heavily on the top of the silo itself. Immobilised by his injuries and unable to descend, he was left in a perilous position. Emergency services were quickly notified, and over 30 personnel from multiple rescue agencies, including the Lampang Rescue Association, Sawang Lampang Rescue Unit, Ko Kha Rescue Team, and a high-angle rescue unit from Chiang Mai, rushed to the scene. The height of the silo and the man’s condition made the rescue particularly complex. Rescue workers employed high-angle rescue techniques, ropes, pulleys, and a basket stretcher to reach Mr Odd. Equipped with oxygen and IV fluids, medics ascended to stabilise him on-site before carefully lowering him to safety. Local residents and mill workers watched anxiously from below as the operation unfolded. Once safely on the ground, Mr Odd was transported by ambulance to Ko Kha Hospital, where he received immediate medical attention. Authorities have praised the coordinated effort of the rescue teams and urged tradespeople and contractors working at height to ensure proper safety measures are in place, including the use of harnesses and fall protection equipment, to prevent future incidents of this kind. 10. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A 43-year-old man fatally stabbed his wife outside a convenience store in Chai Nat Province on the morning of 7 May, reportedly after becoming enraged by alleged content he found on her mobile phone. The suspect, identified only as Mr. Krisana, later confessed to police that he was under the influence of narcotics at the time of the attack. Police Lieutenant Pichak Suriyasenee of Sapphaya Police Station received a report at around 08:00 of a stabbing incident outside a convenience store in Phonang Dam Ok subdistrict, Sapphaya district. Emergency responders from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation and local police arrived to find Ms. Patcharin, lying in a pool of blood at the roadside. She had sustained four stab wounds to the back. Despite emergency first aid and being rushed to Sapphaya Hospital, she later succumbed to her injuries. A preliminary autopsy revealed that the most severe wound had pierced both her heart and lungs. Her body was later transferred to Sawanpracharak Hospital’s forensic institute for further examination. Mr. Krisana, the victim’s husband of 25 years, was detained at the scene by passersby. Police recovered a 15-centimetre blood-stained knife with a wooden handle believed to be the murder weapon. He was arrested and taken to Sapphaya Police Station for questioning and legal proceedings. According to initial testimony, the couple, who have two children, had argued on the way to work where they were employed painting road markings. They stopped at the convenience store to buy painkillers and drinks when another argument broke out. Mr. Krisana admitted to physically assaulting his wife before stabbing her multiple times in the back as she tried to flee. She collapsed near a coffee shop roughly 50 metres from the initial altercation. In his statement, the suspect claimed he had long suspected his wife of involvement in a “secret group” on her mobile phone that facilitated illicit services. He said he had previously caught her in similar situations but chose to stay silent. The discovery of further messages allegedly pushed him over the edge. He also admitted to recent drug use and said he had resumed taking narcotics after a period of abstinence. Relatives of the victim, who gathered at the police station, described a tumultuous relationship plagued by arguments, substance abuse, and erratic behaviour, particularly from Mr. Krisana, who reportedly had a psychiatric history and was on medication. Family members dismissed the suspect’s claims of infidelity, saying the victim was devoted to her work and not interested in appearances or extramarital affairs. An eyewitness said they heard the woman scream and saw blood on her back. The witness added that the suspect made no attempt to flee and appeared stunned by what he had done. Mr. Krisana is being held by police and is expected to be formally charged with murder. He will be remanded in custody and brought before the court on 8 May. 14. Pictures courtesy of Amarin A 19-year-old law student is being hailed as a hero after performing life-saving CPR on a young girl who had drowned at a popular riverside spot in Ubon Ratchathani. Thanks to her quick thinking and training, the five-year-old is now in a stable condition and recovering in hospital. The incident occurred around 13:30 on 6 May at Hat Kuduea beach in the Jaeramae subdistrict of Mueang Ubon Ratchathani. Emergency services were alerted via Thailand’s 1669 emergency line following a report from a concerned citizen that a child had fallen into the water. Rescue units from the Sis Pra Jikong Foundation and Sapphasitthiprasong Hospital’s emergency response team were dispatched immediately. Upon arrival, they found local good Samaritans administering first aid to a young girl who had just been pulled from the water and was unconscious. The child was quickly transferred to the nearby Sapphasitthiprasong Children’s Hospital where she is now under observation and no longer in critical condition. The story quickly went viral after a local Facebook page, Warinchamrap Ban Hao Ubon Ratchathani, posted a photo of Miss Phannipa Thieuthit, the young woman who performed CPR and praised her composure. Miss Phannipa, a second-year law student at Ubon Ratchathani University, was helping her father sell lottery tickets during the school break when the incident occurred. In a later interview, Miss Phannipa, known affectionately as “Pin”, recounted how she had just sold a ticket to the girl’s mother when she heard someone shouting that a child had fallen into the water. Acting swiftly, she gathered information and called emergency services before rushing to the scene. “I saw a relative trying to shake the water out of the girl by holding her over their shoulder,” Pin explained. “I knew that wasn’t the right method. I told them to lay her flat on the ground, checked her vital signs and found her pulse was weak and she wasn’t breathing. So I performed CPR and rescue breaths.” The child soon vomited water and food onto Pin, who said she didn’t mind at all. “All I could think about was saving her,” she said, adding that she was proud to have been able to use her CPR training, which she had received both at university and during military cadet training. The girl’s mother, identified only as Miss A 35, told reporters that the family had been eating and playing near the water when the girl stepped into a sandy depression and went under. She blamed herself for not watching her daughter more closely and for not insisting she wear a life jacket. “This was my fault,” she admitted. “But I’m so grateful we were lucky this time. I don’t know how to thank Miss Pin. Once my daughter recovers, I’ll bring her to thank her in person.” Miss A also expressed heartfelt thanks to the rescue teams, medical staff, and especially Dr. Phiansak Sae-Wong, a paediatric respiratory specialist at Sapphasitthiprasong Children’s Hospital. Upon hearing of the emergency via a call from responders, Dr. Phiansak coordinated preparations for the child’s arrival, including life support and temperature control equipment. “I’m overwhelmed by the kindness and professionalism of everyone who helped save my daughter,” Miss A said. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart.” Adapted by Asean Now from Amarin 2025-05-08.

Emergency services from Na Hua Bo Subdistrict Municipality and Phanna rescue teams, along with officers from Phanna Nikhom Police Station, rushed to the scene after receiving reports of a fatal lightning strike. The deceased, identified by relatives as Mr Paek 54, was found already moved to a safe location by family members before authorities arrived. He was the owner of the property where the incident occurred. According to reports, the weather at the time was hot and humid, with heavy cloud cover and continuous thunder. Mr Paek had gone out to herd his cattle into the pen from an open field. As he passed by a tall coconut tree in his garden, lightning struck the top of the tree. A man has miraculously survived a harrowing fall down a 100-metre cliff at a scenic mountain viewpoint in southern Thailand, as his girlfriend looked on helplessly in terror. The incident occurred at approximately 07:55 on 7 May, at Khao Lae Viewpoint in Sadao District, Songkhla Province, a popular location known for its panoramic views of sunrise and sea mist. The victim, identified as Mr Nabi, 20, from Pattani Province, was visiting the viewpoint early in the morning with his girlfriend to watch the sunrise. According to reports, he slipped near the edge of the Heo Lan cliff, tumbling down the steep slope before becoming lodged in a tree roughly 100 metres below. Emergency services, including teams from the Maikhom, Sanakham, and Phatong Theottham rescue units, were alerted by horrified onlookers after the man’s girlfriend screamed for help. Due to the rugged terrain, rescuers had to hike nearly 800 metres up the mountain before descending carefully to retrieve the injured man. He was found unconscious but breathing, with visible injuries including a fractured arm and facial wounds. Rescue workers secured him in a stretcher and painstakingly carried him back up the mountainside in a delicate operation lasting nearly an hour. He was later transported to Sadao Hospital for emergency treatment. Witnesses said the area was slippery due to recent rainfall, and the cliffside was covered in wet grass and loose soil. One tourist, known only as Benz, told local reporters: “I heard a woman scream, then a thud. When we went to look, we saw him lying far below and having a seizure. We called for help immediately.” Local officials have urged visitors to exercise extreme caution while exploring high-risk viewpoints, particularly during the rainy season when footing can be treacherous. 20. UPDATE Black Box & Wreckage of Police Plane Sent to Canada for Crash Investigation Picture courtesy of Daily News. Authorities have begun the process of shipping the black box and key components of the wreckage from a police aircraft to Canada, where international aviation experts will assist in determining the cause of the tragic crash that claimed six lives. The aircraft, operated by the Royal Thai Police’s airborne unit, crashed into the sea off Hua Hin beach on the morning of 25 April. All six aboard the flight were killed. In the aftermath, recovery teams successfully retrieved the wreckage from the seabed and cordoned off the crash site to preserve evidence and ensure a secure investigation. On 7 May, Group Captain Pakin Phetcharat, commander of Special Operations Squadron 509, along with officials from the Police Aviation Division and Canadian specialists, supervised the dismantling of the aircraft to transport to a secured site. The wreckage was separated into components: the fuselage, the left and right wings and the tail section. A crane truck, was used to carefully lift and load each section onto a transport vehicle for relocation to the Police Aviation Division in Bang Khen, Bangkok. Authorities confirmed that the aircraft’s black box, along with both engines still attached to the wings, will be shipped to Canada for advanced forensic analysis by the manufacturer’s experts. This international collaboration aims to uncover technical faults or external factors that may have contributed to the fatal crash. The Royal Thai Police and aviation authorities have vowed full transparency in the investigation and are working closely with international partners to ensure a thorough and credible examination of the crash. The findings will play a vital role in enhancing aviation safety protocols and preventing future tragedies. Adapted by Asean Now from Daily News 2025-05-08.

  22. Picture courtesy of Matichon. Six people, including a heavily pregnant woman and a seven-year-old girl, endured a terrifying ordeal after becoming trapped inside a hospital lift at Pathum Thani Hospital for over an hour. At approximately 08:20 on 7 May, Pathum Thani City Police received an emergency call from the hospital reporting that multiple patients and visitors were stuck inside a malfunctioning lift. Officers from the local police station and volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation were immediately dispatched to the scene. The incident occurred in the Chalerm Phrakiat 80th Birthday Anniversary Building, a nine-storey facility used for general patient care. According to hospital staff, six people were inside Lift No. 3 at the time it broke down. One of the trapped individuals managed to call a relative, who alerted hospital authorities , but the group was unable to identify which floor they were stuck on. Rescue workers began knocking on the lift doors from floors 1 through 9 before finally hearing a response from those trapped on the 9th floor. However, initial attempts to open the lift failed. A person inside the lift called out to report that the group was struggling to breathe due to the lack of ventilation and heat. This prompted responders to urgently pry open the lift doors using crowbars. All six individuals were successfully rescued and brought to safety, although visibly shaken. The seven-year-old girl reportedly burst into tears upon exiting the lift, while others had sustained minor bruising. All victims were immediately taken to the hospital’s medical unit for examination. Once cleared by doctors, they were discharged and allowed to return home. One of the victims, a pregnant woman nearing her due date, described the moment the lift malfunctioned. She had entered the lift on the first floor with her husband and four others, an elderly couple, a young girl, and the girl’s mother, intending to go to the fourth floor for a prenatal check-up. After pressing the button, the lift appeared to rise normally, with floor indicators lighting up for levels 1 through 4. However, she described a sudden and violent acceleration upwards, followed by a loud crash and a complete loss of power inside the lift. The force of the impact caused everyone to fall to the floor. Panic quickly set in. The emergency call button inside the lift was unresponsive, and a call to the emergency services number, 191, went unanswered. It was only after the relative contacted the hospital directly that rescue efforts began in earnest. “There was a moment where we really thought we wouldn’t get out,” she said. “The air was getting thin, and it was hard to breathe. Thankfully, help arrived just in time.” She reported suffering minor injuries to her arms and legs and said she would undergo a full check-up to assess any impact on her pregnancy. The hospital has not yet issued an official statement regarding the cause of the lift failure, though concerns are expected to be raised about maintenance and emergency response procedures following the incident. 24. Picture courtesy of Matichon. Authorities in Nong Khai have destroyed over 260 kilograms of animal carcasses and meat deemed high-risk for spreading infectious diseases, amid growing concerns about African Swine Fever (ASF) in the region. At 14:00, on 6 May, officers from the Nong Khai Animal Quarantine Station, in coordination with local customs officials and provincial livestock authorities, carried out the destruction of the confiscated materials. The items included: • 180 kg of bovine offal • 42 kg of bovine meat • 40 kg of pork The origin of the animal products could not be verified, raising suspicions that they may have come from animals infected with or carrying infectious diseases. In light of this, and the recent designation of Nong Khai as a disease surveillance zone for African Swine Fever, authorities acted swiftly to prevent potential spread. The destruction was conducted through burial, in accordance with sections 13 and 40 of Thailand’s Animal Epidemics Act (B.E. 2558 / 2015), which permits authorities to destroy animal products suspected of being a disease risk. ASF is a highly contagious viral disease affecting pigs, with no known cure or vaccine. While it poses no threat to humans, its rapid transmission can devastate pig populations and have significant economic repercussions for the pork industry. Officials have reiterated the importance of strict biosecurity measures and called on the public to avoid transporting or consuming meat of unclear origin. Surveillance and enforcement efforts in the province are expected to intensify in the coming weeks. Adapted by Asean Now from Matichon 2025-05-08.
