  1. Picture from responders. A van collided with the rear of a pickup truck transporting workers, causing the truck to spin out of control and crash into a six-wheeled truck. Workers were thrown from the vehicle, leaving 8 people injured, with one in serious condition. The van, which fled the scene, was later found nearly two kilometres away, with the driver claiming brake failure rather than attempting to escape. At approximately 08:00 on March 18, the Pureyeangtai Rescue Centre in Sriracha, Chonburi, received reports of a serious accident on the motorway at kilometre 92-700, heading towards Pattaya, in Bang Phra Subdistrict, Sriracha District. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, where they found a bronze Toyota pickup truck with a metal cage, registered to Chonburi, stopped in the middle of the road. The truck had sustained damage to both the front and rear. Around the truck, injured workers were scattered across the road, with local bystanders assisting them to the side. Upon inspection, it was discovered that six Cambodian workers, along with two Thai individuals, were injured. A nearby six-wheeled truck was also damaged in the incident, with the driver, 54-year-old Mr. Sutat uninjured. However, the van that caused the crash did not stop, continuing to drive away from the scene. Rescue workers provided first aid, with the Cambodian workers suffering cuts, bruises, and head injuries, as well as fractures. The man seated at the back of the pickup was found unconscious, foaming at the mouth, and in serious condition. He was rushed to hospital for emergency care. The two Thai individuals in the front of the pickup truck sustained head injuries. A dashcam from a vehicle following the incident revealed that the van was travelling in the far-right lane , lane 4, while the pickup truck was in lane 3. As the van approached, it swerved left to undertake, clipping the rear of the pickup truck. The impact caused the pickup to spin out of control, crashing into the six-wheeled truck in lane 1. The workers were ejected from the pickup, rolling across the road, though fortunately avoiding further collisions with the six-wheeled truck or any following vehicles. The van continued without stopping. The van was later found nearly two kilometres away at the Nong Yai Buu Bridge. The driver, 60-year-old Mr. Siripob, was identified as the person responsible for the crash. The front of his blue and yellow Toyota van had sustained significant damage. Mr. Siripob explained that he had been returning from Suvarnabhumi Airport after dropping off a passenger when he encountered a vehicle blocking his path. He swerved into the next lane and collided with the pickup truck. Despite his attempts to brake, he claimed the van’s brakes failed, causing him to lose control and the vehicle to roll forward. He confirmed that he did not attempt to flee the scene but was unable to stop the van due to a brake malfunction, even after trying the handbrake. -- 2025-03-19

  3. Picture courtesy of Khoasod A grim discovery was made in an abandoned building in Nonthaburi, when the body of a 56-year-old former security guard was found deceased amid a room filled with rubbish. Authorities were alerted after the man’s acquaintances, unable to reach him by phone, detected a foul odour emanating from the building. Upon investigation, it was confirmed that he had passed away several days earlier. The incident occurred at 10:30 on March 18, when police officers from the Rattanathibet Police Station, along with rescue workers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, responded to a report of a male body in a decaying state. The body was discovered on the ground floor of a five-story, abandoned building located in Soi Tiwanon 20, Tiwanon Road, Bang Krasor Subdistrict, Mueang Nonthaburi District. Inside the building, which had been left empty for years, police found the body of Mr. Juan, originally from Nakhon Sawan, lying in a mosquito net. His body, which had begun to decompose, emitted a strong, unpleasant odour. Due to the clutter of garbage and the state of disrepair, authorities were unable to remove the body through the usual side doorway and resorted to forcing open a metal roll-up door to transport the body for examination. Preliminary investigations revealed no signs of external injury, and it is believed Mr. Juan had passed away from a long-standing illness. The body had been deceased for approximately 3 days. Mr. Suebpong (surname withheld), a person familiar with Mr. Juan, stated that a local resident walking by had noticed the foul smell and informed him. After failing to reach Mr. Juan by phone, Mr. Suebpong went to the building and discovered the unfortunate situation. Mr. Juan had lived in the abandoned building for about 15 years after his mother passed away while being treated at a chest disease institute. He then worked as a security guard at the same institution but, after falling ill and being unable to work, he had no income to pay for rent and had resorted to living in the derelict building. Police have taken photographs of the scene and the body, and they suspect the cause of death is linked to Mr. Juan’s pre-existing medical conditions. They are now working to notify his relatives and will transfer the body to the Forensic Science Institute for further examination. -- 2025-03-19

  5. Picture courtesy of CIB Bangkok police have raided an unregistered commercial building in Thonburi, where a group of young men were illegally selling smuggled cigarettes and brewing kratom syrup mixed with cough medicine for sale to local youths. The operation was led by Pol. Maj. Gen. Thasphoom Jaruprach, Commander of the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECCD), who ordered Pol. Col. Narupol Karuna and Pol. Lt. Col. Wannalop Rattanawong to carry out the raid with a warrant from the Thonburi Criminal Court. Officers searched the property on Soi Inthraphitak 3, Bang Yi Ruea, Thonburi District, and arrested three suspects: • Mr. Chultharap, 23 • Mr. Kittisak, 22 • Mr. Thanathip, 20 (Surnames withheld) Authorities seized 2,800 packs of smuggled foreign cigarettes, 1,930 bottles of cough syrup, 30 bottles of kratom syrup, fresh kratom leaves, and brewing equipment. During questioning, the suspects admitted to smuggling the cigarettes to sell at lower prices than the market rate. They also sold kratom syrup mixed with cough medicine for 80-100 baht per bottle, earning an estimated 10,000 baht. Most of their customers were local teenagers who arrived on motorcycles, with multiple buyers visiting daily. To avoid detection, the gang kept the doors closed at all times, allowing sales only through a small door hatch. The three suspects were charged with: • Violating customs laws – aiding in the possession, sale, or transport of untaxed goods that had not cleared customs. • Breaching the Food Act (1979) – selling unauthorised and potentially hazardous substances. They were taken to the ECCD for further legal action, while the seized goods were sent for further investigation. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Pol. Lt. Gen. Jiraphop Phuridech, Commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), alongside Pol. Maj. Gen. Thasphoom Jaruprach and Pol. Col. Narupol Karuna. The Bangkok police reaffirmed their commitment to clamping down on illicit trade, particularly operations targeting young people. Further crackdowns on smuggled goods and illegal substances are expected in the coming months. -- 2025-03-19

  7. Picture from responders. A high-speed police chase in Trang Province ended in tragedy when a motorcycle carrying two young men lost control and crashed. The incident, which occurred after police pursued the pair for over five kilometres, resulted in the death of 30-year-old Theerapong Sopon, while the bike rider, Thanakrit Sarakun 19, sustained critical injuries. The crash happened on a curved section of the road in Na Talung subdistrict, Mueang Trang district, when the motorcycle reportedly veered off the road while attempting to evade a police checkpoint. According to initial forensic examinations, Theerapong suffered severe trauma, including bruising around his eyes, and is believed to have died from a broken neck. However, what has raised serious concerns among his relatives is the discovery of handcuff marks on his wrists. At around 10:30 on 18 March, Police Lieutenant Narachai Kaewnu of Trang City Police Station received reports of the crash in front of a residence on Moo 4, Na Talung subdistrict. Investigations revealed that the motorcycle, registered in Chonburi, attempted to escape a police checkpoint set up on Ton Pring-Nong Trut Road near a local driving school. Officers pursued the fleeing vehicle for over five kilometres, until the chase ended in a deadly crash after the bike lost control when a car approached from the opposite direction. Thanakrit, the driver, suffered severe injuries and was rushed to Trang Hospital, while Theerapong, the passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene. While the initial medical report suggested the fatal injuries were caused by a high-impact collision, Theerapong’s family is demanding further investigation after noticing restraint marks on his wrists. “The police must clarify what really happened. How could there be handcuff marks if he died from a crash?” a family member stated. The deceased, a lorry driver, leaves behind an eight-year-old son, currently studying in Primary Year 2. Trang police have pledged a thorough investigation to ensure justice for all parties. Authorities have also confirmed that discussions are underway regarding possible compensation for the family. “The case is being carefully examined. We will review all evidence, including CCTV footage and witness testimonies, to establish the facts,” an official spokesperson said. As the investigation continues, the incident has reignited public debate over police pursuit tactics and accountability in high-speed chases. -- 2025-03-19
  8. Object Explodes at Scrapyard, Killing One and Seriously Injuring Four An explosion rocked a scrapyard in Nakhon Ratchasima province during the morning of 18 March, leaving one person dead and four others seriously injured. 9. Pictures from responders. Possible second explosive device at scene. An explosion rocked a scrapyard in Nakhon Ratchasima province during the morning of 18 March, leaving one person dead and four others seriously injured. Authorities are investigating the cause of the blast, which is believed to have been triggered by an unidentified explosive device. The incident occurred at approximately 08:30, in Ban Non Si Thong, Moo 14, Udomsap Subdistrict, Wang Nam Khiao District, when workers were unloading scrap materials from a pickup truck parked in front of the shop. The truck, a Toyota with a Buriram registration plate, bore a sticker reading “Saijai Recycling.” As the scrap was being moved, a sudden and violent explosion sent the workers flying in different directions, leaving them lying injured in pools of blood. One man was killed instantly, suffering catastrophic blast injuries, including the loss of his arms and severe burns to his face. The other four victims, two men and twowomen, sustained critical injuries and were rushed to Wang Nam Khiao Hospital for emergency treatment. Police from Udomsap Police Station, along with explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) units, forensic teams from the Scientific Crime Detection Division 3, and rescue volunteers from Hook 31 Korat, responded swiftly to the scene. Upon arrival, authorities cordoned off the area to conduct an initial investigation and ensure public safety. Disturbingly, an additional unexploded device resembling a grenade was discovered at the site. Bomb disposal experts neutralised any remaining threats. According to early reports, residents of Ban Non Si Thong claimed that scrap collectors had unknowingly brought in old explosive ordnance to extract metal for resale. While this practice is not uncommon in Thailand, it is highly dangerous, as unexploded munitions can remain volatile for decades. Authorities have yet to confirm the exact nature of the device that detonated. The EOD team is currently examining the remnants of the explosion to determine whether it was a discarded military explosive, a homemade device, or industrial ordnance. The area was sealed off as investigators gathered forensic evidence and interviewed witnesses. Officials have urged scrap collectors and recycling businesses to exercise extreme caution when handling unidentified metal objects, particularly those that could be remnants of explosive devices. The incident has raised fresh concerns over the dangers of unregulated scrap collection in Thailand, where abandoned ordnance from past conflicts or military use occasionally resurfaces in unsuspecting hands. -- 2025-03-19

  11. Pictures from responders. A Volvo XC90 SUV was completely destroyed in a fire on Route 331 in the early hours of 18 March. Firefighters battled the flames for over 20 minutes before successfully extinguishing the blaze. The incident occurred at approximately 01:15 near Pattaya Country Club in Moo 5, Khao Mai Kaeo, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. Police Lieutenant Ruangsak Siribut, an investigator from Huai Yai Police Station, received the report and coordinated with emergency services, including the Pong Municipality Fire Department and local disaster prevention officers. Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters found the Volvo XC90 with registration from Bangkok engulfed in flames at the roadside. They immediately began efforts to contain the fire, eventually bringing it under control after a 20-minute operation. Unfortunately, the vehicle was completely burned out. The vehicle’s owner, Mr. Amarin Saengnak, 38, was taken to Huai Yai Police Station for questioning. Mr. Amarin explained that he was driving from Pattaya to Bo Win when he noticed smoke and sparks coming from the front bonnet of his car. “I had no idea what caused it,” he said. “I immediately called the fire department, but no one answered. So, I contacted the police, who helped notify the fire service.” However, there was a delay in the response due to jurisdictional issues. Firefighters from Pong Municipality initially arrived but informed him that the location fell under the responsibility of Khao Mai Kaeo Municipality, which caused additional waiting time. Authorities are now working with forensic specialists from Chonburi Provincial Police to examine the burnt vehicle and determine the cause of the fire. Further investigations will be conducted to assess whether a mechanical fault, electrical issue, or other factors led to the blaze. No injuries were reported, but the vehicle was a total loss. Authorities have assured that they will continue the investigation and take any necessary action based on their findings. -- 2025-03-19

An incident occurred when a pick-up truck driver lost control and crashed into a fried chicken stall, killing an 87-year-old woman and injuring another elderly woman in Moo 8, Khao Chaiak, Mueang District, Phatthalung. The incident took place at approximately 09:45 on 18 March, along Phetkasem Road (Trang-Phatthalung inbound). Lieutenant Kreangkrai Limwongsakul, an officer from Mueang Phatthalung Police Station, responded to the emergency alongside medics from Phatthalung Hospital and local rescue volunteers. At the scene, police found the pick-up truck crashed in front of a house, with damage to its driver’s side. Near the rear of the vehicle lay the body of Mrs. Pha, also known as Aunt Sri 87, who had been sitting in front of her home when the truck ploughed into her, killing her instantly. Another woman, Mrs. Cha-on 80, suffered injuries and was quickly taken to Phatthalung Hospital for treatment. Nearby, authorities also found a car with a damaged rear, which had been hit by the pick-up truck before it veered off course. Ms. Kulsuda 26, the fried chicken vendor, recounted the harrowing moment of the collision. “I was frying chicken for customers while the two elderly women were sitting nearby, chatting with me,” she explained. “Suddenly, the pick-up truck lost control and crashed into the back of a car before ploughing straight into my stall, sending my fried chicken stand flying. I jumped out of the way just in time, but my aunt and grandmother weren’t so lucky.” The pick-up truck driver, identified as Mr. Phatsakorn, emerged from his vehicle after the crash and knelt down, apologising repeatedly. However, when questioned he refused to explain what had caused the crash. Police have since taken him to Mueang Phatthalung Police Station for questioning and are conducting a blood alcohol test to determine if alcohol was involved. Authorities are continuing their investigation to establish the exact cause of the crash and what charges will be filed against the driver. -- 2025-03-19

  15. Picture courtesy of Amarin. Thirty-five Russian tourists were safely evacuated after their tour boat encountered engine trouble, causing thick black smoke to billow into the sky near Koh Sak, close to Koh Larn, off the coast of Pattaya. The incident occurred at approximately 10:00 on 18 March, when Pattaya’s Marine Disaster Prevention and Rescue Centre received an emergency call regarding a fire onboard a tourist vessel, a double decked boat, bearing the name Pattaya Bay Cruise. Rescue teams, including firefighting boats, were immediately dispatched to the scene, located around 500 metres from the island. Upon arrival, rescue workers found large plumes of black smoke emerging from beneath the vessel, initially raising fears of a fire. However, after a thorough inspection by marine rescue personnel and the ship’s captain, it was confirmed that the smoke was caused by a mechanical failure in the engine’s exhaust system, rather than an actual blaze. At the time of the incident, the boat was en route to Koh Sak with its 35 Russian passengers. Acting swiftly, the captain radioed for assistance and coordinated the safe transfer of all passengers to another vessel. No injuries were reported. The captain later explained that the issue stemmed from a disconnection in the exhaust system, which resulted in excessive smoke emissions. He assured authorities that there was no fire and that the situation was brought under control without further complications. Authorities are expected to conduct a full inspection of the boat to ensure compliance with safety regulations before it is allowed to operate again. Meanwhile, local officials have reiterated the importance of strict safety protocols for all tour operators in the region. -- 2025-03-18 .

  17. Picture from responders. An incident occurred in Khanom district, Nakhon Si Thammarat, on 17 March, when a trench collapse buried three workers installing water pipes, killing two instantly and leaving another in critical condition. The incident took place at around 14:30 near Wat Suwan on Phu Chao Saming Road, behind the Khanom District Office. Local police from Khanom Police Station, along with rescue volunteers from the Pracha Ruam Jai Foundation, were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, authorities found excavation machinery, including a small backhoe, at the site. A large trench, approximately 3 metres deep, had partially collapsed, burying the workers under a mass of soil. Responders manually dug the workers out of the soil, but two men, identified as Mr. James and Mr. Phong, were pronounced dead at the scene, while another worker, Mr. Oat, was rescued unconscious and was rushed to Khanom Hospital for emergency treatment. Preliminary investigations suggest that the workers were digging trenches for the water pipe installation when the surrounding earth suddenly gave way, burying those inside the pit. The trench walls were unsupported and the machinery was working close to the trench before the collapse occurred. The cause of the collapse is still under investigation, and authorities have stated that further inquiries will be conducted to determine if safety regulations were followed. Local officials have urged construction teams to exercise extreme caution when working in deep excavations, particularly in areas with unstable soil. Meanwhile, the families of the deceased have been notified, and arrangements for their funerals are being made. -- 2025-03-18

At approximately 19:30 on 17 March, Pol. Lt. Jeerawat Phutaperd, an investigator from Mueang Lopburi Police Station, received a report from a concerned citizen about a body found face-down near a pond behind Naresuan 11 Alley, Moo 1, Khao Sam Yod Subdistrict. Police and rescue teams had to walk 300 metres to the site, where they discovered the deceased man lying face-down with his head partially submerged in the pond. A cable was draped beneath his body, prompting officers to cut the power supply before recovering the remains for examination. The victim was found clutching a cable in one hand, with a pair of pliers still in his grip. His right hand showed burn marks from electrocution. Nearby, police found a red Honda motorbike equipped with tools commonly used for electrofishing. The man was later identified as Mr. Benjaphon, 44, a local labourer who had been living with a friend who had taken pity on him. According to residents, he had a long history of theft and substance abuse, making him widely disliked in the community. Rtd. Lt. Preecha Chaloeyboon, 67, who discovered the body, stated that he had gone out to buy groceries for his grandchildren when he spotted the deceased in the water. Recognising the man, he immediately informed the community leader.
