Picture of arrest. A 23-year-old woman, identified as Arisa, was arrested by military and police officers at a checkpoint in Khlong Luek, Sakaeo province, on March 14. She was caught smuggling ketamine, a Class 2 narcotic, from the Cambodian border town of Poipet into Thailand. Arisa, a resident of Dan Sai district in Loei province, had been working as a coyote girl, at a nightclub called “Check-In” in Poipet since March 8. She had been employed for six days, earning 800 baht per day. On March 13, Arisa purchased ketamine from a colleague at the club for 2,800 baht, intending to use the drug herself. On the afternoon of March 14, Arisa attempted to return to her residence in the Ram Inthra area of Bangkok and crossed back into Thailand with the drugs hidden in her black handbag. During the search, officers discovered the ketamine, and Arisa admitted that the drugs were hers. The arrest took place at the Khlong Luek border checkpoint in Aranyaprathet, Sakaeo, where officers found approximately 0.632 grams of powdered ketamine and 2.172 grams of ketamine crystals, both stored in small plastic bags. Additional items seized included a black handbag, plastic bags, drug paraphernalia, and a urine sample bottle, which tested positive for ketamine. Arisa was taken into custody and transported to the Khlong Luek Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings. She faces charges of possessing and using illegal drugs. -- 2025-03-16

Picture from responders. An incident occurred on March 14, when a 24-year-old man drowned while searching for shellfish with work colleagues, in the Si Suk Canal, Samut Songkhram province. The incident was captured live on TikTok by one of the workers. According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Chanathip Ongkhleub, Deputy Investigator of Muang Samut Songkhram Police Station, the officers were notified of the drowning incident after it was discovered on review of the live stream. The police then coordinated with a local rescue team to search the canal. Rescue divers were dispatched to search the canal, which is approximately 3 meters deep and has strong currents. After about five minutes, they recovered the body of Supachip, a 24-year-old from Samut Sakhon. The body was found lying at the bottom of the canal, and was later transported to Somdet Phra Phutthalertla Hospital for an initial examination. Anusorn a 32-year-old worker who was live streaming, explained that Supachip had been working as a construction worker in Samut Songkhram. On the day of the incident, Anusorn invited six of his colleagues, including Supachip, to go shellfish hunting after a shift change. He set up the live stream as they searched for shellfish, and the group spent approximately two hours in the water. Upon returning to the shore, Anusorn reviewed the live feed and was shocked to find when he replayed the footage, he discovered that Supachip had vanished and drowned. He immediately contacted authorities. Initial investigations suggest that Supachip, who could not swim well, may have been swept away by the strong current while searching for shellfish in the area. At the time of the incident, the tide was rising, which may have contributed to the drowning. Authorities are now working to contact Supachip’s family in Samut Sakhon and plan to send the body for further investigation at the Rajburi Hospital’s forensic department to determine the exact cause of death. -- 2025-03-16

Picture courtesy of Matichon. Former Member of Parliament for Phuket, Suttha Prateep Na Thalang, has called for a thorough investigation into the use of ‘nominee’ arrangements by foreigners to conduct illegal businesses in the province. He has also suggested reducing the free visa period to 30 days in order to close legal loopholes and prevent foreigners from competing with local Thai workers. The call follows recent allegations posted on social media by a former Finance Minister, accusing Phuket police officers of accepting bribes from foreign tourists, ranging from 10,000 to 20,000 baht, to avoid legal action. Suttha emphasised that both the officers accepting bribes and the tourists offering them were committing criminal acts. In addition to this issue, Suttha expressed concerns about foreigners using loopholes in the law to take away jobs from Thai citizens. He noted that some foreigners were opening shops, companies, and car rental businesses in the province using Thai ‘nominees’ to hold shares on their behalf. He has called on the Department of Business Development to enforce stricter controls on business registrations to prevent such practices. Suttha also urged tourism-related organisations, such as the local Chamber of Commerce and the Tourism Business Association, to take a stand on the matter and not allow the issue to continue unchecked. Furthermore, he criticised the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) for failing to address long-standing corruption cases in Phuket, some of which have been unresolved for decades, leaving many offenders unpunished due to their advancing age. He also voiced concerns about the policy of allowing a 60-day free visa for foreign tourists, suggesting that this could provide a window for some to engage in illegal businesses. Since most tourists typically stay for only up to 21 days, he argued that extending the visa period to 60 days has made it easier for foreigners to overstay and continue their business operations without legal repercussions. Suttha also raised the issue of foreign tourists renting large-engine motorcycles, particularly those with engines ranging from 350cc to over 1,000cc. He pointed out that Phuket’s roads are not designed to accommodate such large vehicles, leading to frequent crashes. In response, Suttha has proposed limiting the engine size for rental motorcycles to no more than 160cc for safety reasons and to protect local businesses from being overtaken by foreign competitors. He noted that foreign tourists, particularly from countries like France and Russia, are increasingly renting high-priced motorcycles, which are beyond the investment capabilities of most Thai nationals. Suttha concluded with the following demands: 1. An investigation into foreign-owned businesses and ‘nominee’ arrangements in Phuket, with stricter enforcement by the Department of Business Development and related authorities. 2. A reduction of the free visa period to 30 days to limit opportunities for foreigners to exploit legal loopholes for illegal business activities. 3. The introduction of measures to regulate the rental of large motorcycles in tourist areas to reduce accidents and protect Thai businesses. “Action must be taken swiftly to address these issues before Thai businesses in Phuket are overwhelmed by foreign competitors,” Suttha stressed. -- 2025-03-16

Picture courtesy of Matichon. A 15-year-old boy was killed in a knife attack during a violent confrontation between two rival groups in Mueang district, Nakhon Pathom, late on the night of 14 March. The attack also left two 16-year-olds injured. The incident occurred at approximately 23:40 on Malai Man Road, inbound towards Nakhon Pathom. Upon receiving a distress call, Pol. Lt. Kritchai Achawasakul, an investigator from Mueang Nakhon Pathom Police Station, arrived at the scene along with forensic officers and medical personnel. The victim, identified as Chanthakorn, 15, was found lying face down on the road. He was wearing a pink T-shirt, jeans, and white trainers, with a knife wrapped in black tape clenched in his left hand. He had suffered a deep slash wound to the forehead, resulting in a fractured skull. Near his body, officers discovered a knife and a long handled sickle, abandoned on the ground, both believed to have been used in the altercation. The injured parties, identified as Wichaya, 16, who sustained an arm wound, and Weerasak, 16, who suffered facial injuries, were rushed to Nakhon Pathom Hospital for treatment. Preliminary investigations indicate that the two groups had arranged a meeting to resolve a dispute, but discussions quickly escalated into violence, leading to the fatal attack and multiple injuries. The victim’s mother, Ms. Noi, recounted that her son had left home around 20:30, telling her he was going to meet a friend near Malai Man Intersection. He was riding a blue Filano motorbike with a red number plate and carrying two mobile phones, one belonging to him and the other to his mother. At 22:00, she attempted to call him, but he did not answer. Later, someone picked up and identified themselves as a rescue worker, informing her that her son had been killed. Upon arriving at the scene, she noticed her son’s motorbike was missing, and his friend’s whereabouts were unknown. Investigators are now reviewing CCTV footage from the area and questioning witnesses in an effort to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. Authorities have also visited the hospital to collect additional evidence and take further statements from the injured parties. The case remains under active investigation as police seek to bring those responsible to justice. -- 2025-03-16

Picture courtesy of Khoasod. A 52-year-old rubber farmer was gunned down while riding his motorcycle to work early in the morning. Police believe the murder may have been linked to a personal dispute, as the victim was known for his outspoken nature. The fatal shooting occurred at the entrance to a rubber plantation in Ban Ao Sri Muang, Village 5, Tambon Na Mo Bun, Chulabhorn District. Police Lieutenant Hassan Wongmatthong, an investigator from Chulabhorn Police Station, received the report and immediately informed his superiors. Police Colonel Thanaphon Yaowaphak, the district police chief, along with forensic officers and rescue workers from the Tai Tek Tung Foundation, were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, authorities found the lifeless body of Mr. Wiroj, 52, sprawled across his red-and-black Honda Wave motorcycle (registration from Nakhon Si Thammarat). He had suffered a close-range shotgun blast to the chest, leaving him with severe wounds and a pool of blood beneath him. Forensic specialists were called in to examine the crime scene, searching for clues and physical evidence that could lead to the shooter’s identity. According to preliminary investigations, Mr. Wiroj had been on his usual morning ride to tap rubber when an unidentified assailant ambushed him. The killer fired at point-blank range, causing both the victim and his motorcycle to collapse on the roadside, before fleeing the scene. While the exact motive remains unclear, initial reports suggest that Mr. Wiroj was known for being blunt and outspoken, which may have caused friction with people in his village. Police are currently investigating whether a personal dispute led to the targeted attack. Authorities have conducted a post-mortem examination and are working with forensic teams to gather crucial evidence. The police have vowed to track down the gunman and bring him to justice. -- 2025-03-16

Picture from responders. A female government official staged a dramatic protest by climbing a 50-metre-high pole inside Saraburi Provincial Hall, claiming she had been subjected to workplace harassment and pressure from senior officials. The tense situation unfolded on 14 March, when local police and rescue teams were alerted to the incident. Officers from Saraburi City Police Station, led by Police Colonel Suriyah Sudkangwan, rushed to the scene alongside members of the Sawang Saraburi Rescue Unit. Rescue workers cautiously engaged with the woman, identified as Miss Netnapa, a procurement officer, who was visibly distressed. She stated that she had endured prolonged bullying and professional suppression at the hands of senior officials from a local municipal office. During negotiations, she demanded media coverage, insisting that only if journalists reported her grievances would she agree to come down. After reassurances from officials that her story would be told, she descended safely and was taken to a conference room within the provincial hall. In the meeting, chaired by Mr Yutthana Phothiwihok, Saraburi’s Permanent Secretary, Miss Netnapa explained that she had faced ongoing intimidation and professional marginalisation. She alleged that she had been excluded from key responsibilities, pressured to approve questionable projects, and threatened when she refused to comply. She cited an example of a poorly constructed public toilet in Moo 6, where the contractor delivered only a roof frame and partial walls, without essential facilities. When she raised concerns during a municipal council meeting, she was told: “The contractor delivered what they were paid for.” Another case involved a wireless speaker installation project with a 90-day completion deadline, which she suspected was designed to benefit specific contractors. When she refused to approve the project via the municipal office’s online chat group, she faced severe reprimands and increasing pressure. Miss Netnapa revealed that she had filed complaints with several agencies, including the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), the State Audit Office, and the Damrongtham Centre. However, her concerns were ignored, and no investigations were pursued. She also served as a key witness in an ongoing case against the mayor, who had been accused of soliciting bribes from contractors. Despite the case being under review by the public prosecutor, the mayor remained in office, allegedly exerting further pressure on those involved in the case. According to Mrs Nongyao, a municipal council member, tensions within the municipality had persisted for over two years, particularly between procurement officers and senior executives. She claimed that Miss Netnapa had been systematically targeted due to her role as a witness in the corruption case. “She has been struggling for two years since her conflict with the deputy permanent secretary began. She felt trapped, powerless, and saw no way out. That’s why she resorted to this extreme measure to make her voice heard,” Mrs Nongyao said. During the meeting, Mr Yutthana Phothiwihok assured that the province would launch a full investigation. He promised a thorough review of Miss Netnapa’s allegations. Officials affirmed that her claims would not be ignored, and justice would be pursued to ensure transparency and fairness within the municipal office. -- 2025-03-16

Picture from responders. A 41-year-old woman was shot dead inside her car in the Bang Sue district of Bangkok after rejecting a plea from her gambling-addicted ex-boyfriend to reconcile and move back in with him. The incident took place at approximately 22:00 on 14 March in Soi Pracharat Sai 1, Soi 10. Police from Tao Poon Police Station, forensic experts, and emergency responders were dispatched to the scene following reports of a fatal shooting. At the location, authorities found a white Honda sedan parked inside the premises of a single-storey house. Inside the driver’s seat was the lifeless body of Ms. Laddawan, aged 41, with six gunshot wounds, two to the head, one to the left ear, and others to the neck and chest. The right-side car door had a bullet hole, and spent shell casings were scattered on the ground. A 40-year-old friend of the victim provided insight into the suspect’s motive. The perpetrator, identified as Mr. Kiatthikorn, a freelance game programmer, had struggled with a severe gambling addiction. Over the course of their relationship, he had pawned large amounts of the victim’s gold jewellery, amounting to hundreds of thousands of baht. Unable to tolerate his behaviour any longer, Ms. Laddawan ended their relationship six months ago. Despite the breakup, Mr. Tee continued to linger around her food stall, helping out occasionally, even as she had begun dating someone new. On the night of the murder, Mr. Tee attempted to persuade Ms. Laddawan to return to his condominium in Bang Kruai. A heated argument broke out, and as she entered her car, he suddenly drew a firearm and shot her multiple times before fleeing on a black Honda MSX motorcycle. Friends and family of the victim had warned her repeatedly about the dangers of interacting with Mr. Tee, describing him as a quiet but potentially dangerous individual. She had even discovered a firearm in his possession during a past visit to his residence, prompting her relatives to urge her to avoid him. Authorities quickly gathered evidence and obtained a warrant for Mr. Tee’s arrest. Later, police received a call from the suspect, who expressed his intention to surrender at Ban Pong Police Station in Ratchaburi Province. Investigators took him into custody and bought him back to Tao Poon Police Station for further questioning. -- 2025-03-16

Picture from responders. A 55-year-old pickup truck driver was left in critical condition after his vehicle crashed into an 18-wheeler oil tanker in Khlong Khlung district, Kamphaeng Phet. Emergency teams worked against the clock to free him from the wreckage before rushing him to hospital. The accident occurred at 19:00 on 14 March in Tambon Tha Makuea, prompting an immediate response from police, medics, and rescue teams. Police Lieutenant Yutthana Puksuk of Khlong Khlung Police Station led the investigation at the scene, accompanied by rescue workers from Sawang Kamphaeng Phet Foundation. At the crash site, officers found a severely damaged Isuzu pickup truck with Bangkok registration. The driver, later identified as Mr. Boonlert, 55, from Tambon Mae Lat, Khlong Khlung, was trapped inside the wreckage. His vehicle had smashed into the rear wheels of an 18-wheeler fuel tanker, leaving him pinned in the mangled remains. Rescue workers had to cut through the twisted metal to free him while medical staff from Khlong Khlung Hospital provided intravenous fluids on-site. After 30 minutes of intense efforts, they managed to extricate the critically injured driver and rushed him to hospital for emergency treatment. Mr. Nakharin, 27, the driver of the fuel tanker, recounted that he had been driving normally when he saw the pickup truck swerving erratically towards him. To avoid a head-on collision, he veered to the side, but the pickup truck still slammed into the rear right trailer wheels with great force. Authorities have now towed the wrecked pickup truck to the police station for inspection and are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to determine the precise cause of the crash. Further legal action may follow as the investigation continues. -- 2025-03-16

Picture from responders. A crash on Motorway M6 (Bang Pa-In – Nakhon Ratchasima) has left two people dead and three others injured after a pickup truck driver, lost control and crashed into two roadside lamp posts before veering into the central reservation. The crash occurred at approximately 06:10 on 15 March, at kilometre marker 145+747, in Si Khieu District, Nakhon Ratchasima, on the Bangkok-bound carriageway. Local police and emergency responders from Hook 31 Rescue Unit rushed to the scene following reports of a serious collision. Upon arrival, authorities found a Toyota Revo pickup truck, registered in Bangkok, severely damaged. The front of the vehicle was destroyed, and personal belongings were strewn across the road. Two lamp posts had been knocked down due to the impact. Rescue workers used hydraulic cutting equipment to extricate the five victims trapped inside the vehicle. The victims included: • Three men • One woman • One young boy They were immediately transported to Si Khieu Hospital for urgent treatment. However, two of the male passengers succumbed to their injuries en route to the hospital. Their identities have not yet been confirmed. Initial investigations suggest that the group, who were relatives, were travelling towards central Thailand when the crash occurred. The road conditions were clear, and police suspect the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel. The vehicle is believed to have first struck a lamp post, before losing control and hitting another post 30 metres away. The crash remains under investigation as authorities work to confirm the exact cause of the crash. -- 2025-03-16
