  1. Pictures from responders. Three killed and one critically injured after a truck veered across the median and collided with a pickup, causing a deadly blaze. The collision occurred on the morning of 14 March, when a lignite coal hauler driver, lost control and veered across the median, colliding with a Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck. The crash ignited a fierce fire that claimed the lives of a father, mother, and their young son. The incident occurred near a 7-Eleven store on Phahonyothin Road, at kilometer 143+700, in the Naiyaw area of Phra Phutthabat district, Saraburi. At approximately 08:00, local police received reports of the horrific crash. Rescue teams from the Phra Phutthabat Foundation and local fire services rushed to the scene to combat the flames and assist the victims. The pickup truck, which had Bangkok plates, was severely damaged. Inside, emergency responders discovered the bodies of three individuals: 46-year-old Manop, who was the driver; 42-year-old Suthanee; and 10-year-old Kritdanai. The white and black Hino trailer truck, which had been carrying a full load of lignite coal, flipped onto its side after colliding with the electric utility pole, knocking down one of the high-voltage posts. Firefighters used hydraulic tools to extricate the driver, 31-year-old Thanapoom, who was found badly injured. He was rushed to Phra Phutthabat Hospital, where he remained unable to provide a statement to police. Investigations revealed that the hauler, en route from Nakhon Sawan to a factory in Saraburi, lost control and crossed the central reservation, striking the pickup heading toward Lopburi. The collision caused an intense fire, while the truck also hit the electric pole, causing it to snap. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash, with authorities focusing on the driver’s condition and vehicle mechanical issues. -- 2025-03-15

  3. Picture courtesy of DSI The Department of Special Investigation (DSI), in cooperation with the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI), raided a warehouse in Khlong Luang district, Pathum Thani, uncovering a large stockpile of electrical appliances that failed to meet safety standards. Authorities seized over 100,000 items, with an estimated market value of 17 million baht. On 13 March, acting on a search warrant issued by the Thanyaburi Provincial Court, DSI officers led by Pol. Lt. Col. Yutthana Praedam, Director-General of the DSI, and Pol. Lt. Col. Anurak Rojanaranankit, Deputy Director-General, inspected the site. They were joined by Pol. Lt. Col. Supawan Phonak, Deputy Director of the Consumer Protection Division, along with officials from the Thai Industrial Standards Institute. During the raid, authorities discovered a range of electrical products, including power strips, electric cookers, hairdryers, nail dryers, and other appliances. These products were found to be in violation of the Industrial Product Standards Act of 1968 and the Customs Act of 2017. The seized goods have been handed over to the DSI’s Consumer Protection Division for further investigation. Officers also confiscated computers and relevant documents as evidence to support legal proceedings under the Special Case Investigation Act of 2004. This operation forms part of the Thai government’s ongoing efforts to combat the illegal import and sale of substandard products, which pose potential safety risks to consumers. The initiative aligns with the key policies of Pol. Lt. Col. Yutthana Praedam, who has emphasised the importance of strong inter-agency collaboration in enforcing regulations and maintaining public trust in consumer protection. The DSI continues to encourage the public to report any suspicious or illegal activities involving substandard products to help prevent the circulation of unsafe goods in the Thai market. -- 2025-03-15

  5. Picture from responders. A 36-year-old man suffering from mental instability set fire to his own home in Klong Hat District, completely destroying it and causing the death of a cow in the process. His parents, who lost their entire life savings in the blaze, are devastated. On the evening of 13 March, a fire broke out in a wooden and corrugated iron house in Ban Thepnimit, Submakrut Subdistrict, Klong Hat District, Sa Kaeo Province. Local residents alerted the municipal fire service, and fire trucks from Wang Nam Yen Municipality and Submakrut Subdistrict Administration Organisation rushed to the scene. It took nearly an hour for firefighters, along with rescue teams from Sawang Sakaeo Foundation, to bring the blaze under control. Authorities later confirmed that the fire was deliberately started by the homeowner’s son, Mr Anek Chaiyaphit, aged 36, who has a history of erratic behaviour. Local police from Klong Hat Police Station took him into custody after the incident. Preliminary investigations revealed that he had previously attacked his parents, been arrested for drug-related offences, and damaged his own car multiple times. During questioning, the suspect claimed he started the fire because he wanted to roast a cow. Tragically, one cow perished in the blaze. At the time of the incident, his parents were away working as woodcutters, returning home to find their house completely destroyed. Mr Somkuan Chaiyaphit, 68, and his wife, Mrs Thewi Chaiyaphit, 63, were left heartbroken upon discovering the loss of their home and possessions. The couple had been saving money for years to renovate their house, but their entire life savings, 30,000 baht was lost in the fire. Mrs Thewi recounted her son’s troubling history, revealing that he had previously attempted suicide, struggled with drug addiction, and displayed increasingly erratic behaviour. She said he had been feeling stressed in recent weeks, particularly after his daughter refused to answer his phone calls. “He started getting aggressive, breaking things in the house. Then he set it on fire,” she said. “He used to have a wife and child, but after their relationship fell apart, he became unstable. He wanted us to sell the house and move away. Now, everything we owned is gone.” Mr Somkuan also expressed his despair, explaining that he had planned to use his savings to buy construction materials to renovate their home. Now, they have nothing left. “When I asked my son why he did it, he just told me not to talk and that we’d see each other in court,” he said tearfully. Pol Lt Col Krisana Iamsaad, the lead investigator from Klong Hat Police Station, confirmed that Mr Anek had been charged with arson and was being held in police custody. The suspect was due to be brought before the Sakaeo Provincial Court for a remand hearing in the coming week. Meanwhile, forensic officers were dispatched to the scene to collect evidence for further legal proceedings. -- 2025-03-15

  7. Pictures from responders. A patient transport ambulance crashed into a hospital building in Nakhon Pathom, injuring 12 people, after the driver reportedly lost control due to a shoe obstructing the brake pedal. The incident occurred around midday on 13 March at the orthopaedic surgery department of the hospital. Emergency responders and medical staff immediately assisted the injured, who were swiftly taken for treatment. Police investigators, led by Lieutenant Colonel Phattharapha Wanwong of Nakhon Pathom Police Station, arrived at the scene to assess the damage and question the driver, identified as Akkhararak. He explained that his shoe became lodged against the brake pedal, preventing him from stopping the vehicle, which he then veered into the hospital building. Authorities took the driver in for further questioning and conducted an alcohol test as part of the investigation, which was negative. Forensic officers have been deployed to the hospital to gather evidence, including CCTV footage, to confirm the cause of the crash and determine whether any further action will be taken. Eyewitnesses described the terrifying moment, stating that the area was crowded with people waiting or moving around. “I saw the van arrive to drop off a patient, and then suddenly, it started moving forward and crash through the glass front, hitting people inside the building. No one had time to react before screams filled the air,” one witness recounted. Authorities are continuing their inquiries to ensure such an incident does not happen again. -- 2025-03-15

  9. Picture courtesy of Matichon. The Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, Pol. Lt. Gen. Phanumas Bunyaluck, visited Mae Hong Son on 14 March, to implement stricter measures against foreign nationals causing disturbances. He ordered immediate deportation and blacklisting for those found violating Thai laws or engaging in inappropriate behaviour. At 10:30, Pol. Lt. Gen. Phanumas conducted an inspection at the Mae Hong Son Immigration Office, the focus of his visit, being foreign nationals who may not be adhering to visa regulations or who have become a public nuisance. He directed officers to conduct thorough document checks and take decisive action against any individuals not complying with Thai laws, including revoking their stay and deporting them immediately. He specifically emphasised the need for tighter monitoring in Pai district, a well-known tourist destination popular with both Thais and foreigners. Reports of conflicts between locals and foreign visitors have surfaced frequently in the media, prompting authorities to collaborate with local administrative bodies. Officials are now updating records on individuals and accommodations to ensure accurate monitoring. Certain nationalities, including Israeli and Russian visitors, are under heightened scrutiny due to a significant number of visa extension requests. Authorities are closely watching for any suspicious behaviour that may warrant further investigation. “If any foreigner is found acting with disregard for Thai law or causing trouble for the local community, legal action will be taken. Their residency permits or visas will be revoked, and they will be added to the blacklist, barring them from re-entering the country,” Pol. Lt. Gen. Phanumas stated. Additionally, immigration officers are enforcing strict compliance with Section 38 of the Immigration Act, which requires hotels and property owners to report foreign guests within 24 hours of their arrival. Any accommodation providers failing to comply will face legal consequences. The crackdown is part of a broader directive from the national police chief, Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet, instructing immigration authorities to prevent foreign nationals from creating problems in Thailand. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the Immigration Bureau via their official channels. -- 2025-03-15

A jealous ex-lover stormed after a woman, after discovering she had moved on with a new partner, leading to a violent confrontation that ended with the woman being shot. The suspect later surrendered to the police, claiming the gun went off accidentally. The shocking incident, captured on CCTV, occurred at around 08:10 on 14 March, in an apartment block, in Bang Chalong, Bang Phli District. The victim, identified as Ms. Aree, 35, was seen returning to her room when she noticed her ex-boyfriend, Mr. Phongsathorn, approaching. Fearing for her safety, she ran across the street to a nearby shop, seeking help and asking someone to call the police. Footage from inside the shop showed the suspect chasing after her, grabbing her by the neck, and dragging her outside. A short time later, a gunshot rang out. Witnesses reported that after the shooting, the woman’s new partner, Mr. Sirichai, rushed to assist her. He was seen helping her back into the shop while the gunman fled the scene. Emergency responders from Bang Phli Rescue Unit arrived shortly after and found Ms. Aree critically injured, having sustained multiple wounds to her back from a homemade 12-gauge shotgun. She was rushed to Chularat Suvarnabhumi Hospital for urgent treatment. After fleeing, Mr. Phongsathorn reportedly drove back to his home nearby. CCTV footage from his residence captured him arriving and calling for his sister to open the door. Shortly after, he contacted an acquaintance to inform the police that he wished to surrender. When she refused, he allegedly pulled out the gun to intimidate her. He insists that during a struggle, the gun accidentally discharged, hitting Ms. Aree. He also admitted to owning the gun illegally and having a previous conviction for attempted murder, for which he had served time in prison before working as a delivery driver. Police escorted Mr. Phongsathorn to the scene of the crime, where he directed them to a grassy area where he had discarded the weapon. He has been charged with attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm under Thailand’s Firearms Act. He remains in custody as investigations continue. -- 2025-03-15

At around 12:30 on 14 March, officers from Khu Khot Police Station responded to reports of a robbery at a gold shop located on Saiwai Pracharat Road in Lat Sawai Subdistrict. The one-unit shop, situated along the roadside, was staffed by two female employees, both left shaken by the ordeal. 19. Pictures from responders. A devastating fire broke out at a scrapyard in the Bueng Kham Proi area of Lam Luk Ka district early on 14 March, destroying a two-rai property. The blaze, which spread rapidly due to the flammable materials stored on site, is believed to have been caused by an electrical short-circuit from a damp circuit breaker. At approximately 08:00, the Bueng Kham Proi Sub-district Administration Organisation, received an emergency call reporting the fire. Over 10 fire trucks from the local municipality and Bueng Kham Proi Sub-district Council were initially dispatched to the scene to combat the flames. The fire engulfed the “Jirawan Junk Shop,” located at 36/25, Moo 10, on a plot of land spanning more than 2 rai. Upon arrival, firefighters found the blaze consuming large piles of plastic materials, which ignited easily, causing the fire to spread quickly. Despite efforts to douse the flames with water, the fire rapidly escalated, causing the steel roof structure to collapse, and the entire building was destroyed in the blaze. Nareth Niem-em, the 36-year-old owner of the shop, explained that heavy rain had fallen overnight, and that on the morning of the fire, his staff had turned on the electrical breaker, likely causing the sparks that led to the blaze. The quick ignition and spread of the fire meant that the workers were unable to control the situation on their own and had to call for emergency assistance. Somchai Trinawong, the district chief of Lam Luk Ka, spoke to local media, stating that, based on initial findings, the fire was likely caused by an electrical short-circuit. He confirmed that the previous night’s rain had made the breakers damp, and that the workers may have inadvertently switched it back on in the morning, causing an electrical surge that led to the rapid outbreak of the fire. Multiple fire trucks from surrounding areas assisted in bringing the blaze under control. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the scrapyard and its contents were completely destroyed. Investigations are underway to determine further details regarding the cause of the incident. -- 2025-03-15

  23. Picture courtesy of TMN. A 27-year-old woman has reported to police that she was abducted, assaulted, and held captive for over a week by her ex-boyfriend, who allegedly forced her to take drugs and threatened to disfigure her. The woman from Sakon Nakhon province has filed a police complaint after managing to escape from captivity, where she claims her ex-boyfriend had abducted and abused her over the course of days. At 09:05 on 14 March, Miss Thipamon 27, arrived at Pattaya City Police Station in a distressed state to report the ordeal to Police Lieutenant Itthiporn Tangchuthawisap, the investigating officer. She recounted that on the morning of 4 March, she was having a meal at a restaurant in Soi Kor Phai, Pattaya, when her former boyfriend, known only as “Bang,” 30 years old, suddenly appeared. He allegedly forced her into his car before assaulting her, covering her face with a pillow while striking her. Thipamon stated that Bang then drove her to a residence in the Nong Prue area, where he locked her in a room and threatened to disfigure her. During her captivity, she was repeatedly assaulted and coerced into taking drugs. She pleaded with him to let her eat, but he continued to beat her until she lost consciousness. She was then moved to another location in South Pattaya, referred to by Bang as a “safe house,” which she believed was being used to store illegal drugs. While Bang was away, she seized the opportunity to escape and immediately sought help from authorities. She has also attempted to convince others who were allegedly victimised by Bang to come forward, but they are reportedly too afraid of retaliation. Police have since taken a detailed statement from Thipamon and sent her for a medical examination, as she is still suffering from injuries, including pain in her ribcage. Investigators are now gathering evidence and searching for the suspect, given the severity of the case and its links to drug-related activities. Authorities have assured that all necessary measures will be taken to apprehend the suspect and ensure justice is served. -- 2025-03-15
