  2. Picture courtesy of Matichon. A 15-year-old boy was killed in a knife attack during a violent confrontation between two rival groups in Mueang district, Nakhon Pathom, late on the night of 14 March. The attack also left two 16-year-olds injured. The incident occurred at approximately 23:40 on Malai Man Road, inbound towards Nakhon Pathom. Upon receiving a distress call, Pol. Lt. Kritchai Achawasakul, an investigator from Mueang Nakhon Pathom Police Station, arrived at the scene along with forensic officers and medical personnel. The victim, identified as Chanthakorn, 15, was found lying face down on the road. He was wearing a pink T-shirt, jeans, and white trainers, with a knife wrapped in black tape clenched in his left hand. He had suffered a deep slash wound to the forehead, resulting in a fractured skull. Near his body, officers discovered a knife and a long handled sickle, abandoned on the ground, both believed to have been used in the altercation. The injured parties, identified as Wichaya, 16, who sustained an arm wound, and Weerasak, 16, who suffered facial injuries, were rushed to Nakhon Pathom Hospital for treatment. Preliminary investigations indicate that the two groups had arranged a meeting to resolve a dispute, but discussions quickly escalated into violence, leading to the fatal attack and multiple injuries. The victim’s mother, Ms. Noi, recounted that her son had left home around 20:30, telling her he was going to meet a friend near Malai Man Intersection. He was riding a blue Filano motorbike with a red number plate and carrying two mobile phones, one belonging to him and the other to his mother. At 22:00, she attempted to call him, but he did not answer. Later, someone picked up and identified themselves as a rescue worker, informing her that her son had been killed. Upon arriving at the scene, she noticed her son’s motorbike was missing, and his friend’s whereabouts were unknown. Investigators are now reviewing CCTV footage from the area and questioning witnesses in an effort to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. Authorities have also visited the hospital to collect additional evidence and take further statements from the injured parties. The case remains under active investigation as police seek to bring those responsible to justice. -- 2025-03-16

  5. Picture courtesy of Khoasod. A 52-year-old rubber farmer was gunned down while riding his motorcycle to work early in the morning. Police believe the murder may have been linked to a personal dispute, as the victim was known for his outspoken nature. The fatal shooting occurred at the entrance to a rubber plantation in Ban Ao Sri Muang, Village 5, Tambon Na Mo Bun, Chulabhorn District. Police Lieutenant Hassan Wongmatthong, an investigator from Chulabhorn Police Station, received the report and immediately informed his superiors. Police Colonel Thanaphon Yaowaphak, the district police chief, along with forensic officers and rescue workers from the Tai Tek Tung Foundation, were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, authorities found the lifeless body of Mr. Wiroj, 52, sprawled across his red-and-black Honda Wave motorcycle (registration from Nakhon Si Thammarat). He had suffered a close-range shotgun blast to the chest, leaving him with severe wounds and a pool of blood beneath him. Forensic specialists were called in to examine the crime scene, searching for clues and physical evidence that could lead to the shooter’s identity. According to preliminary investigations, Mr. Wiroj had been on his usual morning ride to tap rubber when an unidentified assailant ambushed him. The killer fired at point-blank range, causing both the victim and his motorcycle to collapse on the roadside, before fleeing the scene. While the exact motive remains unclear, initial reports suggest that Mr. Wiroj was known for being blunt and outspoken, which may have caused friction with people in his village. Police are currently investigating whether a personal dispute led to the targeted attack. Authorities have conducted a post-mortem examination and are working with forensic teams to gather crucial evidence. The police have vowed to track down the gunman and bring him to justice. -- 2025-03-16

  6. Picture from responders. A female government official staged a dramatic protest by climbing a 50-metre-high pole inside Saraburi Provincial Hall, claiming she had been subjected to workplace harassment and pressure from senior officials. The tense situation unfolded on 14 March, when local police and rescue teams were alerted to the incident. Officers from Saraburi City Police Station, led by Police Colonel Suriyah Sudkangwan, rushed to the scene alongside members of the Sawang Saraburi Rescue Unit. Rescue workers cautiously engaged with the woman, identified as Miss Netnapa, a procurement officer, who was visibly distressed. She stated that she had endured prolonged bullying and professional suppression at the hands of senior officials from a local municipal office. During negotiations, she demanded media coverage, insisting that only if journalists reported her grievances would she agree to come down. After reassurances from officials that her story would be told, she descended safely and was taken to a conference room within the provincial hall. In the meeting, chaired by Mr Yutthana Phothiwihok, Saraburi’s Permanent Secretary, Miss Netnapa explained that she had faced ongoing intimidation and professional marginalisation. She alleged that she had been excluded from key responsibilities, pressured to approve questionable projects, and threatened when she refused to comply. She cited an example of a poorly constructed public toilet in Moo 6, where the contractor delivered only a roof frame and partial walls, without essential facilities. When she raised concerns during a municipal council meeting, she was told: “The contractor delivered what they were paid for.” Another case involved a wireless speaker installation project with a 90-day completion deadline, which she suspected was designed to benefit specific contractors. When she refused to approve the project via the municipal office’s online chat group, she faced severe reprimands and increasing pressure. Miss Netnapa revealed that she had filed complaints with several agencies, including the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), the State Audit Office, and the Damrongtham Centre. However, her concerns were ignored, and no investigations were pursued. She also served as a key witness in an ongoing case against the mayor, who had been accused of soliciting bribes from contractors. Despite the case being under review by the public prosecutor, the mayor remained in office, allegedly exerting further pressure on those involved in the case. According to Mrs Nongyao, a municipal council member, tensions within the municipality had persisted for over two years, particularly between procurement officers and senior executives. She claimed that Miss Netnapa had been systematically targeted due to her role as a witness in the corruption case. “She has been struggling for two years since her conflict with the deputy permanent secretary began. She felt trapped, powerless, and saw no way out. That’s why she resorted to this extreme measure to make her voice heard,” Mrs Nongyao said. During the meeting, Mr Yutthana Phothiwihok assured that the province would launch a full investigation. He promised a thorough review of Miss Netnapa’s allegations. Officials affirmed that her claims would not be ignored, and justice would be pursued to ensure transparency and fairness within the municipal office. -- 2025-03-16
  7. Picture from responders. A 41-year-old woman was shot dead inside her car in the Bang Sue district of Bangkok after rejecting a plea from her gambling-addicted ex-boyfriend to reconcile and move back in with him. The incident took place at approximately 22:00 on 14 March in Soi Pracharat Sai 1, Soi 10. Police from Tao Poon Police Station, forensic experts, and emergency responders were dispatched to the scene following reports of a fatal shooting. At the location, authorities found a white Honda sedan parked inside the premises of a single-storey house. Inside the driver’s seat was the lifeless body of Ms. Laddawan, aged 41, with six gunshot wounds, two to the head, one to the left ear, and others to the neck and chest. The right-side car door had a bullet hole, and spent shell casings were scattered on the ground. A 40-year-old friend of the victim provided insight into the suspect’s motive. The perpetrator, identified as Mr. Kiatthikorn, a freelance game programmer, had struggled with a severe gambling addiction. Over the course of their relationship, he had pawned large amounts of the victim’s gold jewellery, amounting to hundreds of thousands of baht. Unable to tolerate his behaviour any longer, Ms. Laddawan ended their relationship six months ago. Despite the breakup, Mr. Tee continued to linger around her food stall, helping out occasionally, even as she had begun dating someone new. On the night of the murder, Mr. Tee attempted to persuade Ms. Laddawan to return to his condominium in Bang Kruai. A heated argument broke out, and as she entered her car, he suddenly drew a firearm and shot her multiple times before fleeing on a black Honda MSX motorcycle. Friends and family of the victim had warned her repeatedly about the dangers of interacting with Mr. Tee, describing him as a quiet but potentially dangerous individual. She had even discovered a firearm in his possession during a past visit to his residence, prompting her relatives to urge her to avoid him. Authorities quickly gathered evidence and obtained a warrant for Mr. Tee’s arrest. Later, police received a call from the suspect, who expressed his intention to surrender at Ban Pong Police Station in Ratchaburi Province. Investigators took him into custody and bought him back to Tao Poon Police Station for further questioning. -- 2025-03-16
  8. Picture from responders. A 55-year-old pickup truck driver was left in critical condition after his vehicle crashed into an 18-wheeler oil tanker in Khlong Khlung district, Kamphaeng Phet. Emergency teams worked against the clock to free him from the wreckage before rushing him to hospital. The accident occurred at 19:00 on 14 March in Tambon Tha Makuea, prompting an immediate response from police, medics, and rescue teams. Police Lieutenant Yutthana Puksuk of Khlong Khlung Police Station led the investigation at the scene, accompanied by rescue workers from Sawang Kamphaeng Phet Foundation. At the crash site, officers found a severely damaged Isuzu pickup truck with Bangkok registration. The driver, later identified as Mr. Boonlert, 55, from Tambon Mae Lat, Khlong Khlung, was trapped inside the wreckage. His vehicle had smashed into the rear wheels of an 18-wheeler fuel tanker, leaving him pinned in the mangled remains. Rescue workers had to cut through the twisted metal to free him while medical staff from Khlong Khlung Hospital provided intravenous fluids on-site. After 30 minutes of intense efforts, they managed to extricate the critically injured driver and rushed him to hospital for emergency treatment. Mr. Nakharin, 27, the driver of the fuel tanker, recounted that he had been driving normally when he saw the pickup truck swerving erratically towards him. To avoid a head-on collision, he veered to the side, but the pickup truck still slammed into the rear right trailer wheels with great force. Authorities have now towed the wrecked pickup truck to the police station for inspection and are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to determine the precise cause of the crash. Further legal action may follow as the investigation continues. -- 2025-03-16

  9. Picture from responders. A crash on Motorway M6 (Bang Pa-In – Nakhon Ratchasima) has left two people dead and three others injured after a pickup truck driver, lost control and crashed into two roadside lamp posts before veering into the central reservation. The crash occurred at approximately 06:10 on 15 March, at kilometre marker 145+747, in Si Khieu District, Nakhon Ratchasima, on the Bangkok-bound carriageway. Local police and emergency responders from Hook 31 Rescue Unit rushed to the scene following reports of a serious collision. Upon arrival, authorities found a Toyota Revo pickup truck, registered in Bangkok, severely damaged. The front of the vehicle was destroyed, and personal belongings were strewn across the road. Two lamp posts had been knocked down due to the impact. Rescue workers used hydraulic cutting equipment to extricate the five victims trapped inside the vehicle. The victims included: • Three men • One woman • One young boy They were immediately transported to Si Khieu Hospital for urgent treatment. However, two of the male passengers succumbed to their injuries en route to the hospital. Their identities have not yet been confirmed. Initial investigations suggest that the group, who were relatives, were travelling towards central Thailand when the crash occurred. The road conditions were clear, and police suspect the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel. The vehicle is believed to have first struck a lamp post, before losing control and hitting another post 30 metres away. The crash remains under investigation as authorities work to confirm the exact cause of the crash. -- 2025-03-16
  10. Picture from responders. A 19-year-old man lost his life after his pickup truck veered off the road and plunged into a canal in Thanyaburi District, Pathum Thani, in the early hours of the morning of 15 March. The incident occurred at approximately 00:30 along the Khlong 9 Eastern Road, Bueng Sanan Subdistrict. 11. Picture courtesy of Khoasod. Thai police have dismantled an illegal Bitcoin mining operation spanning multiple locations in Bangkok and Pathum Thani, seizing high-value equipment and uncovering large-scale electricity theft amounting to over 11 million baht. Authorities raided four properties, three abandoned units in Pathum Thani and a luxury residence in the Ram Inthra 65 area of Bangkok, where the mining operation had been set up. The illegal activities not only resulted in significant financial losses but also posed a serious fire hazard due to improper electrical connections. The operation was led by Pol. Maj. Gen. Thatphum Jaruprach, Commissioner of the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECS), who instructed Pol. Col. Theerapat Yangyuen, head of Sub-Division 3, to collaborate with the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Suppression Division in carrying out the raid. During the search, officers confiscated: • 63 Bitcoin mining machines • 3 mining control units • 3 large electrical circuit boards • 3 routers • 3 network hubs • 3 modified electricity meters • 1 desktop computer • 1 laptop • 1 mobile phone • 2 bank account books The estimated total value of the seized equipment is over 2 million baht. The raid followed a tip-off from residents in Khlong 6, Rangsit, Thanyaburi District, Pathum Thani, who reported suspicious activities involving abandoned units. Investigations revealed that a group of investors had occupied the properties to set up illegal Bitcoin mining operations. The suspects tampered with electricity meters and transformers to steal electricity, bypassing official power supply systems. They also installed cooling systems and remote monitoring equipment, allowing them to manage the operation from a distance. Further investigation traced the main suspect to a luxury residence in Ram Inthra 65, Bangkok, which was used as the operation’s control centre. Once sufficient evidence was gathered, police obtained search warrants and raided the targeted properties. During the raid on one of the abandoned units, police witnessed illegal direct connections to the power grid. The faulty wiring posed a severe fire risk, which could have led to catastrophic damage. Authorities are now gathering further evidence to prosecute those involved. The investigation will focus on identifying and apprehending the individuals responsible for orchestrating the operation and ensuring they face legal consequences. This case highlights the growing issue of illegal cryptocurrency mining operations in Thailand, which not only cause massive financial losses but also endanger public safety through unregulated and hazardous electrical setups. -- 2025-03-16

  15. UPDATE Rama 2 Road Construction Collapse: Five Dead, Two Still Missing Pictures from responders. The construction incident that occurred early morning on 15 March, Rama 2 Road in Bangkok, resulted in five confirmed fatalities, two missing persons, and 29 injuries. The incident involved the collapse of a temporary structure supporting an elevated expressway under construction near Soi Rama 2, Soi 25, in the Bang Mot sub-district. Among the deceased were three Thai nationals and Two Myanmar nationals. The injured were promptly transported to nearby hospitals, while search efforts continue for the two missing workers. Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit visited the site this morning, expressing condolences to the families of the victims. He confirmed that the workers who died were employed by the construction company responsible for the project. Minister Suriya emphasised that the contractor, Italian-Thai Development PLC, would be held accountable for the incident. Initial investigations suggest that the collapse may have been caused by an overload of concrete on the temporary structure, compounded by fatigue among night-shift workers. However, the Engineering Institute of Thailand has proposed that soil instability beneath the structure could have been a contributing factor. Minister Suriya announced that stricter safety protocols would be enforced, including penalties for contractors involved in accidents. He also stated that construction work would be suspended during the upcoming Songkran festival to ensure public safety. A thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the collapse. Experts from the Engineering Institute of Thailand will conduct a detailed inspection once the site is cleared. 18. UPDATE Collapse of Rama 2 Elevated Highway Construction Site Leaves 5 Dead Pictures from responders. In the incident that occurred early on morning of 15 March, a section of the under-construction Rama 2 elevated highway collapsed, resulting in the deaths of five construction workers and leaving many others injured. The collapse occurred just before 02:00 near Soi Rama 2, Soi 25, in the Bang Mot sub-district of Chom Thong, Bangkok. Rescue operations remain ongoing into the morning, with authorities working tirelessly to search for survivors and clear the debris. The collapse is believed to have happened during the pouring of concrete for a crossbeam connecting support pillars of the elevated highway. Witnesses reported hearing loud cracking sounds before the structure gave way, sending tons of steel and concrete crashing down. At the time of the incident, around 30 workers were on-site. Tragically, five workers lost their lives, while 20 others sustained injuries, some are believed to remain trapped under the rubble. Rescue teams, including firefighters, USAR teams, disaster response units, forensic experts, and volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, were dispatched to the scene immediately. Heavy machinery, including cranes, was deployed to lift the debris and assist in the search for survivors. K9 units were also brought in to help locate any individuals still trapped. The collapse has severely disrupted traffic in the area, as the Rama 2 highway is a major artery connecting Bangkok to Samut Sakhon and other western provinces. The Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) has temporarily closed the entrance and exit ramps of the Chalerm Maha Nakhon Expressway near the Daowadueng toll plaza. Motorists heading into the city are advised to use the Bang Pakae intersection and Suksawat Road as an alternative route. Those traveling toward Samut Sakhon are urged to exit at Suksawat Road and continue onto Rama 2 Road. Dr. Amorn Pimanmas, President of the Structural Engineers Association of Thailand, provided preliminary insights and analysis into the possible causes of the collapse. He suggested three potential factors: 1. Concrete Pouring Process: The collapse may have been triggered by the weight of freshly poured concrete on the crossbeam, which could have exceeded the load-bearing capacity of the temporary support structures. 2. Structural Integrity of Temporary Supports: The steel trusses supporting the crossbeam may have failed due to insufficient strength or improper connections. 3. Anchoring System: The connection points between the steel trusses and the support pillars may not have been robust enough to handle the stress. A formal investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the collapse. Authorities have suspended all construction activities at the site until further notice. One worker, described the terrifying moments leading up to the collapse. "We were pouring concrete when we heard two loud cracking sounds. Before we knew it, the entire structure came crashing down. Some of my colleagues were trapped under the debris," he recounted. Police General Siam Boonsom, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, is scheduled to visit the site later today to assess the situation and oversee the investigation. Meanwhile, the Expressway Authority has assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of the construction site and prevent similar incidents in the future. As of 09:00 rescue teams have successfully extracted 16 injured workers (12 men and 4 women) from the rubble. Two bodies were recovered earlier, and three additional fatalities were confirmed during subsequent search operations. Four workers remain trapped on a support pillar, and rescue teams are working to bring them to safety. -- 2025-03-15

The two men were taken to Koh Phangan Police Station for questioning. During interrogation, Mr. Vijay reportedly provided partial admissions, while Mr. Rahul gave vague and inconsistent statements, claiming he could not remember the events of that night. As part of the investigation, police collected DNA samples from both men and sent them for analysis at Koh Phangan Hospital. Meanwhile, Ms. Sara stated that she had been heavily intoxicated on the night of the attack and could not positively identify her attackers. She also mentioned that the area where the assault took place was poorly lit, making recognition difficult. CCTV from the scene. Pol. Col. Apichart Chansamret, Chief of Koh Phangan Police, emphasised that while the victim could not confirm the identities of her attackers, evidence from CCTV footage and witness testimonies supported their suspicions. He stated that no other individuals were seen leaving the crime scene at the time of the assault, apart from Mr. Vijay and Mr. Rahul. “We are confident that we have the right suspects,” Pol. Col. Apichart said. “However, we will await the results of the DNA analysis and further investigations before proceeding with formal charges.” Authorities have reassured the public that they are committed to ensuring the safety of tourists and will take swift action against those found responsible. The case remains under investigation. -- 2025-03-15
