Picture courtesy of Matichon. The Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, Pol. Lt. Gen. Phanumas Bunyaluck, visited Mae Hong Son on 14 March, to implement stricter measures against foreign nationals causing disturbances. He ordered immediate deportation and blacklisting for those found violating Thai laws or engaging in inappropriate behaviour. At 10:30, Pol. Lt. Gen. Phanumas conducted an inspection at the Mae Hong Son Immigration Office, the focus of his visit, being foreign nationals who may not be adhering to visa regulations or who have become a public nuisance. He directed officers to conduct thorough document checks and take decisive action against any individuals not complying with Thai laws, including revoking their stay and deporting them immediately. He specifically emphasised the need for tighter monitoring in Pai district, a well-known tourist destination popular with both Thais and foreigners. Reports of conflicts between locals and foreign visitors have surfaced frequently in the media, prompting authorities to collaborate with local administrative bodies. Officials are now updating records on individuals and accommodations to ensure accurate monitoring. Certain nationalities, including Israeli and Russian visitors, are under heightened scrutiny due to a significant number of visa extension requests. Authorities are closely watching for any suspicious behaviour that may warrant further investigation. “If any foreigner is found acting with disregard for Thai law or causing trouble for the local community, legal action will be taken. Their residency permits or visas will be revoked, and they will be added to the blacklist, barring them from re-entering the country,” Pol. Lt. Gen. Phanumas stated. Additionally, immigration officers are enforcing strict compliance with Section 38 of the Immigration Act, which requires hotels and property owners to report foreign guests within 24 hours of their arrival. Any accommodation providers failing to comply will face legal consequences. The crackdown is part of a broader directive from the national police chief, Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet, instructing immigration authorities to prevent foreign nationals from creating problems in Thailand. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the Immigration Bureau via their official channels. -- 2025-03-15

Picture captured from CCTV. A jealous ex-lover stormed after a woman, after discovering she had moved on with a new partner, leading to a violent confrontation that ended with the woman being shot. The suspect later surrendered to the police, claiming the gun went off accidentally. The shocking incident, captured on CCTV, occurred at around 08:10 on 14 March, in an apartment block, in Bang Chalong, Bang Phli District. The victim, identified as Ms. Aree, 35, was seen returning to her room when she noticed her ex-boyfriend, Mr. Phongsathorn, approaching. Fearing for her safety, she ran across the street to a nearby shop, seeking help and asking someone to call the police. Footage from inside the shop showed the suspect chasing after her, grabbing her by the neck, and dragging her outside. A short time later, a gunshot rang out. Witnesses reported that after the shooting, the woman’s new partner, Mr. Sirichai, rushed to assist her. He was seen helping her back into the shop while the gunman fled the scene. Emergency responders from Bang Phli Rescue Unit arrived shortly after and found Ms. Aree critically injured, having sustained multiple wounds to her back from a homemade 12-gauge shotgun. She was rushed to Chularat Suvarnabhumi Hospital for urgent treatment. After fleeing, Mr. Phongsathorn reportedly drove back to his home nearby. CCTV footage from his residence captured him arriving and calling for his sister to open the door. Shortly after, he contacted an acquaintance to inform the police that he wished to surrender. Upon arrival, officers from Bang Phli Police Station found him waiting outside with his hands raised in surrender. He was taken into custody without resistance. During questioning, Mr. Phongsathorn claimed he had no intention of shooting his ex-girlfriend. He stated that he and Ms. Aree had been together for over two years but had frequent arguments. He had financially supported her, including paying for her accommodation and recently purchasing her a mobile phone. However, he later discovered she had been seeing another man. On the day of the incident, he confronted her, demanding that she end the relationship with her new boyfriend and leave the rented apartment, which he had been paying for. When she refused, he allegedly pulled out the gun to intimidate her. He insists that during a struggle, the gun accidentally discharged, hitting Ms. Aree. He also admitted to owning the gun illegally and having a previous conviction for attempted murder, for which he had served time in prison before working as a delivery driver. Police escorted Mr. Phongsathorn to the scene of the crime, where he directed them to a grassy area where he had discarded the weapon. He has been charged with attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm under Thailand’s Firearms Act. He remains in custody as investigations continue. -- 2025-03-15

Picture captured from CCTV. A gunman stormed a gold shop in Pathum Thani’s Lam Luk Ka district, making off with gold jewellery weighing 13 baht before fleeing on a motorcycle. Authorities are now conducting an intensive manhunt to track down the suspect. At around 12:30 on 14 March, officers from Khu Khot Police Station responded to reports of a robbery at a gold shop located on Saiwai Pracharat Road in Lat Sawai Subdistrict. The one-unit shop, situated along the roadside, was staffed by two female employees, both left shaken by the ordeal. According to Ms. Supharak, a counter clerk, the suspect, a tall, young male with a central Thai accent, approached the store wearing a full-face motorcycle helmet, a blue jacket over a light blue shirt, jeans, and blue sneakers. He arrived on a motorbike and claimed to be delivering documents. When she opened the automatic door, he drew a black handgun and ordered her to hand over gold jewellery, threatening to shoot if she refused. When she hesitated, the suspect took matters into his own hands, reaching into a drawer and grabbing gold necklaces and bars before making a swift getaway on his white Honda scooter. Police Colonel Kantaphon Wanna, the station’s superintendent, confirmed that the stolen items included 12 baht of gold necklaces and 1 baht of gold bars, which belonged to customers who had left them for safekeeping. Authorities are now analysing CCTV footage to trace the suspect’s escape route and identify his whereabouts. -- 2025-03-15

Fire Destroys Scrapyard in Pathum Thani: Suspected Electrical Fault A devastating fire broke out at a scrapyard in the Bueng Kham Proi area of Lam Luk Ka district early on 14 March, destroying a two-rai property. Pictures from responders. A devastating fire broke out at a scrapyard in the Bueng Kham Proi area of Lam Luk Ka district early on 14 March, destroying a two-rai property. The blaze, which spread rapidly due to the flammable materials stored on site, is believed to have been caused by an electrical short-circuit from a damp circuit breaker. At approximately 08:00, the Bueng Kham Proi Sub-district Administration Organisation, received an emergency call reporting the fire. Over 10 fire trucks from the local municipality and Bueng Kham Proi Sub-district Council were initially dispatched to the scene to combat the flames. The fire engulfed the “Jirawan Junk Shop,” located at 36/25, Moo 10, on a plot of land spanning more than 2 rai. Upon arrival, firefighters found the blaze consuming large piles of plastic materials, which ignited easily, causing the fire to spread quickly. Despite efforts to douse the flames with water, the fire rapidly escalated, causing the steel roof structure to collapse, and the entire building was destroyed in the blaze. Nareth Niem-em, the 36-year-old owner of the shop, explained that heavy rain had fallen overnight, and that on the morning of the fire, his staff had turned on the electrical breaker, likely causing the sparks that led to the blaze. The quick ignition and spread of the fire meant that the workers were unable to control the situation on their own and had to call for emergency assistance. Somchai Trinawong, the district chief of Lam Luk Ka, spoke to local media, stating that, based on initial findings, the fire was likely caused by an electrical short-circuit. He confirmed that the previous night’s rain had made the breakers damp, and that the workers may have inadvertently switched it back on in the morning, causing an electrical surge that led to the rapid outbreak of the fire. Multiple fire trucks from surrounding areas assisted in bringing the blaze under control. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the scrapyard and its contents were completely destroyed. Investigations are underway to determine further details regarding the cause of the incident. -- 2025-03-15

Picture from responders. A 67-year-old woman lost her life after losing control of her motorcycle on a bridge descent and crashing into a guardrail. At approximately 13:15 on 14 March, officers from Pho Klang Police Station received a report of a motorcycle crash near the underpass of the Pak Thong Chai three-way intersection in Nakhon Ratchasima municipality. Police and emergency responders from Hook 31 Rescue Unit were dispatched to the scene. The crash occurred on the descent of the Nakhon Ratchasima elevated interchange, leading towards Highway 2 (Mittraphap Road). Upon arrival, authorities discovered a white and red Honda Wave motorcycle, bearing registration number from Nakhon Ratchasima, lying on its side near the roadside. A short distance from the vehicle, the body of the victim, later identified as Mrs. Yupa Phengsomnuek, 67, was found unconscious and unresponsive. Emergency responders attempted to resuscitate her using CPR, but despite their efforts, no vital signs were detected. Family members, who rushed to the scene upon hearing the news, were left in tears as their loved one could not be revived. According to the initial investigation, Mrs. Yupa had been returning home after making merit at Wat Liap temple. She had taken the detour along Highway 204 before merging onto Highway 2. Her home was approximately four kilometres away when the crash occurred. Witnesses reported that as she descended the elevated section of the road, she lost control of her motorcycle, causing it to veer off course and crash into the roadside guardrail. The impact resulted in fatal injuries. Police are continuing their investigation to determine the precise cause of the incident. Meanwhile, the victim’s body has been taken for further examination before being released to her family for funeral arrangements. -- 2025-03-15

Picture courtesy of TMN. A 27-year-old woman has reported to police that she was abducted, assaulted, and held captive for over a week by her ex-boyfriend, who allegedly forced her to take drugs and threatened to disfigure her. The woman from Sakon Nakhon province has filed a police complaint after managing to escape from captivity, where she claims her ex-boyfriend had abducted and abused her over the course of days. At 09:05 on 14 March, Miss Thipamon 27, arrived at Pattaya City Police Station in a distressed state to report the ordeal to Police Lieutenant Itthiporn Tangchuthawisap, the investigating officer. She recounted that on the morning of 4 March, she was having a meal at a restaurant in Soi Kor Phai, Pattaya, when her former boyfriend, known only as “Bang,” 30 years old, suddenly appeared. He allegedly forced her into his car before assaulting her, covering her face with a pillow while striking her. Thipamon stated that Bang then drove her to a residence in the Nong Prue area, where he locked her in a room and threatened to disfigure her. During her captivity, she was repeatedly assaulted and coerced into taking drugs. She pleaded with him to let her eat, but he continued to beat her until she lost consciousness. She was then moved to another location in South Pattaya, referred to by Bang as a “safe house,” which she believed was being used to store illegal drugs. While Bang was away, she seized the opportunity to escape and immediately sought help from authorities. She has also attempted to convince others who were allegedly victimised by Bang to come forward, but they are reportedly too afraid of retaliation. Police have since taken a detailed statement from Thipamon and sent her for a medical examination, as she is still suffering from injuries, including pain in her ribcage. Investigators are now gathering evidence and searching for the suspect, given the severity of the case and its links to drug-related activities. Authorities have assured that all necessary measures will be taken to apprehend the suspect and ensure justice is served. -- 2025-03-15

Picture from responders. A devastating fire engulfed a used car dealership in Surat Thani in the early hours of the morning of 14 March, destroying eight vehicles and causing damage estimated at over 2 million baht. Firefighters battled the blaze for 30 minutes before bringing it under control. At 03:40, police from Mueang Surat Thani Police Station received reports of a fire at a second-hand car dealership next to Vibhavadi Camp Hospital, located on Liang Mueang Road, Makham Tia Subdistrict. Upon arrival, emergency responders found flames engulfing the dealership’s office building, rapidly spreading to vehicles parked under the structure. The Surat Thani Municipal Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Unit and the Kusolsattha Surat Thani Rescue Foundation dispatched fire engines to the scene. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze before it could spread to other nearby car dealerships. However, by the time the flames were extinguished, seven cars and one pickup truck had been completely destroyed. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported, as no one was present at the site when the fire broke out. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit in the covered structure, before spreading to the vehicles. However, authorities are awaiting further forensic analysis to determine the exact cause. -- 2025-03-15

Pictures from responders. A horrific head-on collision between two 18-wheel lorries on a bypass road in Ayutthaya resulted in a massive fire, claiming the life of one driver while another managed to escape with injuries. Police from Bang Ban Police Station were alerted to the accident at approximately 06:40. The collision occurred at a construction site for a new bridge over the Chao Phraya River, in Maha Phrom Subdistrict, Bang Ban District, Ayutthaya Province. Firefighters from Maha Phrom Municipality, Ban Pom Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, and Bang Ban Municipality, along with emergency responders from the Ayutthaya Ruam Jai Foundation, rushed to the scene. The crash involved two 18-wheel lorries, both registered in Pathum Thani Province. One truck was fully loaded with sand, while the other was empty. The collision caused an intense fire that quickly engulfed both vehicles, particularly around their cabs. Firefighters worked swiftly to control the flames, taking approximately 30 minutes to extinguish the fire, all while traffic was halted due to the risk of explosions from NGV gas cylinders installed in the trucks. Upon investigation, authorities found that the fire had completely destroyed one of the lorries. Inside the charred remains of the driver’s cabin, they discovered the burnt body of Mr. Prasit 45, from Si Sa Ket Province, who had been trapped in the wreckage and unable to escape. The driver of the second truck, Mr. Dok-or 38, from Kalasin Province, managed to free himself from the burning vehicle and was rushed to Bang Ban Hospital with serious injuries. A municipal waste truck driver, who witnessed the incident, stated that his vehicle was stationary in the left lane when the sand-laden lorry overtook him. At that moment, the oncoming empty lorry appeared, leading to a violent head-on crash. Within seconds, flames engulfed both vehicles, creating the inferno. The surviving driver was seen scrambling to escape, but Mr. Prasit, the deceased driver, was trapped inside the wreckage, his leg pinned beneath the dashboard. Despite his desperate cries for help, bystanders were unable to rescue him due to the intense heat and repeated explosions. He was burned alive in full view of those at the scene. Police have launched a full investigation, gathering witness testimonies and preparing to question the injured driver once his condition stabilises. Further forensic analysis will be conducted before any legal proceedings commence. -- 2025-03-15

Pictures from responders. A section of an elevated expressway under construction on Rama II Road collapsed early morning, on 15 March, trapping multiple workers beneath the debris. Emergency responders have so far rescued five people, but many remain unaccounted for. The incident occurred at approximately 01:50 near Soi Rama II 25 in Bang Mot, Chom Thong district. Reports from the Bangkok Fire and Rescue Department’s emergency hotline (199) confirmed that a structural failure led to the collapse of a steel framework supporting the elevated road. Several workers were crushed under the debris, with fatalities and serious injuries reported. Rescue teams from the Chom Thong Fire Station, as well as the Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) unit of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department, have been deployed to the site. Initial reports indicate that at least 20 workers were present at the time of the collapse. By0 2:05 rescue teams had managed to extract five injured workers, who were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. The operation is ongoing, with responders carefully searching the wreckage for any remaining survivors. The collapse extended from Soi 17 to Soi 25, raising concerns about the safety of the entire construction project. Authorities have yet to confirm the total number of casualties, and an investigation is expected to determine the cause of the failure. This incident marks yet another construction-related accident on Rama II Road, a major highway notorious for infrastructure collapses in recent years. The authorities have urged the public to avoid the area while rescue and recovery efforts continue. -- 2025-03-15
