  1. I now support Pirapan Salirathavibhaga and UTN. Conservative-leaning, which means stability, and doesn't seem in favor of expanding the tax base.
  2. The other parties seem worse with their solutions, all of which seem intent on expanding the tax base and spending huge amounts of money. Not sure who to root for.
  3. These are all over the US. It's cannabis extract mixed with some sort of oil, sort of like what people use with nicotine. You buy cartridge refills when needed (the brown glass part in the picture), but can continue to recharge the unit. I tried them in California and didn't care for them much. It's a much "less full" impact than dry herb vapes. The big problem is contamination of the oil, and whether that in itself is healthy. I wouldn't trust smoking one in Thailand because of what they may contain.
  4. The "experienced" lesbians in professional women's tennis are known to be extremely sexually aggressive toward the younger players, especially if they just joined the league. I think that's part of what was going on here, thus the silence.
  5. The biggest investor is TikTok at 270 billion baht. I didn't realize this, but TikTok shop is huge in Thailand. Their datacenters are going to expand support of this and do things like advanced video recommendations and also creator tools.
  6. Has anyone used the Islamic Bank of Thailand? My wife wants to switch to them. I use QR Code scanning a lot to pay for things, especially on Lazada, and don't want to give out a debit card. The Islamic Bank uses the paotang app for "scan" but from what I can tell it is only available to Thai nationals and I'm here on a marriage visa. Are they a good bank? Is there an alternative for using "scan"?
  7. Their kids are also a big factor if going for a committed marriage-like ltr. They can be a nightmare, and you can't tell until multiple years have passed you by.
  8. I don't know the answer to your question, but I'm here on a marriage visa and my wife will be the same way. Crazy thing is that many times she is right.
  9. Yes. It worked for me. I applied Monday morning (Jan. 26) at 10 a.m. and at 7 p.m. last night (Jan. 27) it was approved.
  10. Fewer working citizens means a much bigger portion of their income has to go to the government to pay the debt and Social Security. AI and the robots will need to make a really huge leap forward in productivity.
  11. Some mothers, even in educated middle class Western countries, are borderline insane when it comes to making their children be "good eaters".
  12. I wonder how many of the alleged perpetrators were women.
  13. Do they confirm vaccination?
  14. Thanks everyone. She's going to try the expired passport and if it doesn't work, she'll use the US one and we'll go from there. Was interested in real-world experiences because that doesn't always match the official policies in Thailand.
  15. I've been growing my own cannabis. It's more difficult than I imagined, and I've only once in two years grown something exceptional, but it's a fun project. Even if the plant doesn't turn out well, I like watching the reactions of Thais who come by and happen to see one growing in a pot. You can learn a lot about a person in watching how they react. A straight-laced Muslim woman in a hijab seemed very approving and familiar with it, for example.
  16. Is there really public demand to criminalize cannabis? I don't see it. People seem more upset about the Rama 2 road and extensive corruption. I think this is simply Thaksin and his Pheu Thai party pushing for it. The People's Party, mentioned in that article, is a corrupt joke.
  17. I don't think it is your cooking technique because I've had the same problem. None of it seems very good. Maybe the high-end stuff is decent, but it's too expensive to bother with. I've switched to making stews with a pressure cooker so that it satisfies my desire for meat. One minor suggestion is to order your chicken from a Betagro store via Grab. It tastes the same, but is fresher and will store better in the freezer.
  18. Something about the West is very isolating, especially in small cities where going anywhere requires a car and money. Being a lonely old man seems almost inevitable without family. But do young Thai women enjoy servicing wrinkled and fat farangs for 2,000 baht? Many of the ones I've seen display signs of sexual trauma.
  19. They don't seem like a serious party. Their cannabis stance was disappointing also.
  20. This is true and because of that I think the elites realize that the current system won't last as the older people die off. That's why there are all these facial recognition cameras, AI data centers, banking rules to remove all privacy and add a layer of control which will be the new way to maintain power. Expanding the tax base is part of this. It seems like Thaksin was put in place to usher it all in. A rich elite Thai family controlling a significant part of the economy must realize it comes to an end in ten years if they don't change their approach.
  21. I don't know if it matters who wins. I kind of favor just having the military take over again and keep things as they are. The People's Party kind of worries me. They want to "expand the tax base" which means dragging all Thais into the tax system, which of course is both a loss of freedom and gives the government enhanced control.
  22. I was at MBK Center last week and surrounding malls. Not empty, but they do seem less full.
  23. Agree on this - I have them send it to me in Bangkok. Good pre-rolls mixed with tobacco, if you like that. Also, best cannabis mascots in Thailand.
  24. Yes, that's a possibility and there is enough time to do it if necessary. It's just a lot of work for her because no car, she's visiting various family members and moving a lot, and it takes things like photographs and some other paperwork, all done by the mail. Was trying to find an easier way.
  25. This was one of the strangest things in my introduction to Thai bureaucracy. Bangkok Bank insisted that the US embassy had to confirm that I actually was living at the Bangkok address. I kept telling them that there is no way the US embassy would investigate and confirm this to them, but they said other countries did and showed me a letter from the Malaysian embassy. So I went ahead and set up an appointment with the US embassy in Bangkok and got an "attestation" where you raise your right hand and swear that the information is correct. The form the embassy gives you literally says the information has not been validated, but Bangkok Bank was OK with it and I got my account.
