With respect, I would think there might be more to this than you say. Is that only reason given for denying your daughter boarding on her flight ?  Did you try the British Embassy emergency contact number:

If you’re in Thailand and you need urgent help (for example, you’ve been attacked or arrested or someone has died), call +66 (0) 2 305 8333.

    Thanks,

I just called the number and they confirm that I must goto Laksi first to renew her thai passport.

As my daughter entered thaialnd using her Thai passport, she must leave Thailand on her Thai passport.

    Draconian  <deleted>  Thailand well niffed.

Do you think they were genuinely questioning whether or not she was same individual as the person in the expired passport?
I could imagine if the picture in the old passport were for example 5 years old, when she was 7, maybe they are genuinely not sure it is really her.

As far as whether or not she legally has the right (or rather, she and a parent legally have the right) to exit the country in the situation you describe would be for someone with knowledge of Thai law to answer.

No, it is clear she is the individual in the passport, has a right to enter the destination country and a valid passport to travel on.

I had a similar experience with my kid around 5 years ago. We were leaving Thailand for our annual trip to the UK, and i neither me or my wife had remembered to check to validity of the Thai passport (our mistake, no excuses). After much talking and a senior IO being called, we were told that he could leave on his UK passport, but would only be stamped in for 30 days on our return. When we returned to Thailand a month or so later, he entered Thailand on his expired Thai passport, as its legal to let a National into their home country on an expired passport. We were told to renew his Thai passport asap, which we did. We were lucky i guess, as had he been refused it would of been a nightmare.

    I find it perplexing.

This is what I was expecting to happen also, they knew she is Thai, had no criminal record, was a British citizen and would be accepted at the desitination country.

    Typically draconian.

  5. Traditional construction material for floor in Thailand has been a concrete slab.

I am considering to use lighter material for the 1st floor...   smart board floor plank ( 25mm ) with laminate wood flooring ( 8mm ) laid on top.  I see it would be necessary to use the laminate ( with a foam layer underneath ) to insulate noise.

The smart board floor plank, is available at a cheaper cost with colour on one-side only, these can be laid facing downward to form the ceiling from the ground floor, then the foam layer, then the laminate wood ontop as the floor for the 1st floor.  I can see this would be alot less heavy than the traditional pre-fab concrete slabs, wet concrete and tiles, but I am not sure about the stability and noise.  Today I found myself jumping up and down at Amason to see how much their floor shakes ...  ha ha ..

I would welcome comments from others on this approach

    I have a dc waterpump i use for irrigation,rated 100volt x 10 amp = 1,000 watts.

    30.6 volt x 250 watt = 8.17 amps

    30.6 volt x 300watt = 9.80 amps

I want to take one panel away and use for another set up.

    I have choices,

    40 volt 380 watt = 9.50 amps

    30 volt 350 watt = 11.66 amps

    ummm......

you could test it, time for 1 minute measure how much water it pumps into a container.

What duty rate did you pay on your battery and inverter?

battery - nothing additional to pay, it was all included in the price, the seller completed the import slip etc.

    inverter - about 17%

panels - needed shiping, couldn't come by air, when shipping, there is additional courier fees import handling etc, ends up cheaper to buy here Amorn or somewhere like that at 3,900 baht per 330w panel

You didn't include your combiner box in your list of bits. Hopefully you have one.

Didn't buy a combiner box...  worked out the components in side it instead and mounted them on the gypsum board next to the inverter.

    • lightning arestor
    • 2 pole fuse
    • pv array string fuse
    • ground pole

Just to note, if using a transformerless inverter both the positive and negative leads from the each pv string need to be fused, otherwise if the inverter has a transformer only the positive needs to be fused.

example of a combiner box available on aliexpress or alibaba this is for an inverter with transformer as just the positive leads are fused.

  8. In UK we are well used to using floorboards, doing this in Thailand termintes come to mind, but I guess varnishing is the answer to that, anything else to be aware of ?

Considering something like this, reasoning is wood has a lower thermal mass than concrete, not sure yet how this will work on the balconies with regards to rain...

  9. Wifey wants a concrete slab for the ground and 1st floor as opposed to gypsum board.

Columns / Beams, I am considering to use either concrete or steel.  If using concrete are there options to speed up the construction process of forming the columns pouring the concrete, making the rebar cages.

Ground floor slab,  traditional prefab concrete suspended from the beam, with wet concrete poured on top, they will be coupled to the earth with earth or stone to act as a heat sink, keep the gound floor cool to the touch.

1st floor slab, I am considering either

    • traditional prefab concrete suspended from the beam, with wet concrete poured on top
    • or steel sheet with poured concrete.

I'm interest to here other peoples experiences comments with regards to meterials they chose for their slabs.

The roof I am considering using steel foam sandwich sheets mounted on steel frame.

It would be PEA who decided where the meter goes, but that doesn't really matter now.

Have you tried negotiating a lower price for using his poles? It's reasonable that he would want some return.

And, importantly, have you asked the landowner if you can run your conduit across his property?

it is a private road with right of way for me and my neightbour, wifey tells me right of way includes, placing electric poles, internet and water.

Its not high on my priority list to shell out 100,000 internet at the moment, plenty of other things to buy first... I'll run the fibre throught the pvc conduit, bury it if necessary, then later possbily move to 5g or revisit the 100k to use the poles at some later date.  otherwise forgoe the fibre and stay with 4g via the mobile at 7mbs.

  11. I thought the meter was on my neighbours land at the end of the string of poles, but it is not, he has placed his meter 300 meters away on the PEA pole, so all the poles he installed are after the PEA meter, and all on private land all be it not his land.

I see no alternative but to use some pvc conduit and to feed the fibre line though and lay it on the ground along side the string poles.

I have off-grid solar, I see no point paying for my own poles or paying 100,000 baht just for the fibre internet
