Young Female Golf Caddie Dies in Motorcycle Accident in Chonburi
Korat Kiwi replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
I've never liked those pudding bowl style helmets. Only slightly better than nothing. I always don a full face helmet, no matter how damn hot it is. Best safe than sorry. Most proper bikers know this and buy the best they can afford. Learnt this back in NZ as the roads there are a coarse chip seal. It's like sandpaper should you slide on it. Roads here aren't so bad being predominantly concrete. But that too has its problems ie sand, grit, oil even water can become a big hazard. Condolences to the parents. -
I have a question to all these 'members' who always reply to any of Bob's posts in the negative. What is your problem? Everyone that is registered on asean now is entitled to their own opinion and can post virtually anything within the bounds of the rules. But it appears that as soon as Bob posts anything, the troop of 'assassin's appear. It's quite simple people, if you don't like/agree with Bob's posts then either don't read them or use the block feature. I've only been on here a short time and I'm astounded by the amount of attacks on Bob. I'm sure he is probably a bit eccentric but that doesn't give licence to all these personal attacks. I could add a lot more but then it may see as a rant. People please think before posting nasty replies.

Removing shoes going into a shop- selective hygiene?
Korat Kiwi replied to Scouse123's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
So what's the go with the hippee types that don't wear footware? (And a lot of kiwis also go barefeet too) They walk over and through all sorts of dirt/Garbage. What are they thereby traipsing through stores/homes etc? Should there be a footbath outside the entranceway for them to clean their feet? When do we say enough is enough? Personally I have no problem with removing footware when entering someone's residence. Going into a shop is another matter. Either comply with any signage or shop elsewhere. -
He looks like a turtle. What's HAMC stand for? Hoes And Mingers Combined?

Removing shoes going into a shop- selective hygiene?
Korat Kiwi replied to Scouse123's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I can understand the request for shoes off but what really gets my goat is when there are shoes all over the place directly in front of the door! Why can't people put them to the side thus allowing easy access into the building/house/shop? Or better yet have a shoe rack like they do at some temples. I remember many years ago I got so wound up by bloody shoes in the way that I kick them all over the place. Not really an appropriate response by damn I felt a lot better afterwards. -
Summer storm alert for 45 Thai provinces including Bangkok
Korat Kiwi replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yep we had a heap of rain from 5-9pm yesterday. Then a little bit at about 6am today. Ground is sodden and it looks like we may get some more today. Massive lightning strikes yesterday. A few were very close. Made the dogs yelp. Had a 10 degree drop in as many minutes. We're about 25km North West of Korat proper. Other areas no rain at all. Very localised but if you get hit, my goodness it's heavy stuff. A bit like Singapore monsoon season. -
I prefer to have just enough thanks... No need to be greedy. Although it could be argued that by paying these 'fees' it puts pressure on the normal channel of application. We are seeing it more day by day. Requirements for visa or extensions getting more ridiculous and bureaucracy stretches out the door. Most customers/tourists/retirees put up with this but others (like myself) simply have had enough of being mucked about. Ive got better things to do than jumping through ever increasing hoops. Maybe this could all change for the better? But TIT so I'm not holding my breath.

Point noted, my perception is that she looks quite youthful and bright in the first photo. In the second it appears that drugs may have found their way into her life. BUT thats just a perception. She could be the same youthful person who just wanted to get some ink done. Staging and lighting come into play big time with those photos. I'm sure if done professionally the second photo could have been more 'alluring'

I on the other hand, don't mind a bit of ink on women. Not full on everywhere and in full view. A couple of nicely placed tatts are fine IMO. Not tramp stamps for all to see. There is probably a fine line as to what's good and what's cheap looking. Run of the mill tatts look cheap, we all know them when you see them. The only other tatts I can't get my head around are black tattoos on dark skinned people... What's the point? Ya can't see them. Or is that the point? More and more people have them. From business people to sports people. They are not frowned upon as much as the use to be. Years ago in NZ they were usually associated with gangs. The police weren't allowed to have any showing. That's all changed. I did 23yrs in the military... never got one. Partially because I never saw a design that I liked. Each to their own as you said.

Korat Kiwi replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Well that taught her Bob. Imagine if everyone did that... She'd have no customers to bitch about. I too vote with my feet if service is poor. Plenty more places willing to take my baht and provide better service.- 235 replies

NASA's DC-8 Conducts Air Quality Mission Over Chiang Mai
Korat Kiwi replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
The focus on the OP is about using a DC8 but then they show a photo of a Gulfstream 3 aircraft. It is mentioned that they are also using a Gulfstream 3 but why all the palaver focusing on the DC8 then? I think most people already know the outcome.... The air in Chiang Mai is bad. Don't need to spend $1000s to confirm that. -

Buying a 2nd hand car and converting to LPG
Korat Kiwi replied to JustAnotherFarang's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I think you may find quite a few 'converted' cars are already out there, so no doubt it can be done. BIL has a 2.4 camry on lpg. Nice car and smooth to drive... Just wish he'd dump the oversized muffler/exhaust system he has on it. Too bloody loud. As for economy? Well he's a bit tight so I'd say it's better than petrol ie cheaper to run. As long as you've got lpg refill stations in your area. -
Well it was on the cards. I'm not particularly worried. Don't break the law so what's to worry about? I'm sure there will be some additional inconveniences come extension of stay time, but that's nothing new.

How good are thai hotels with over 200 channels of....
Korat Kiwi replied to Goat's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Generally the higher quality hotels with all these tv channels are quite good I've found. There's at least 1 or 2 channels worth watching! Not sure if the OP question is about the TV channels or the hotels. Like most have stated, crapomoulie channels for English speaking guests. Hotels themselves can have great facilities tho. Swimming pools, gym (Not that I ever use one on 'holiday') carparks and fantastic buffet breakfasts. Stayed at 'flash' hotel in Vientiane, it had 100s of tv channels. Thai or Chinese only. Tried to find something in English.... Nada. Mentioned to front of house staff, should have saved my breath. -
Chiang Mai Immigration Requiring Your Monthly Income?
Korat Kiwi replied to jeffandgop's topic in Chiang Mai
So they want more photos, in front of the house, in the lounge, in the kitchen. One post said they even want photo on the bed and another in front of house with immigration staff. WTF... what's next? in the bed? With immigration staff? Hell why not invite them all around then we could have one big party. Forget the photos, why not go for a video? Then we could stream it live Surprised? NO -
