  1. I'm not saying don't use drugs but rather I am saying that sometimes living in a different place may do you more good than drugs. Eating healthy foods probably does more good for you than taking drugs. Take statins if you think they'll help you. Backflip you said "Thousands of lives have been saved by statins" Can you prove that? You may be right but I haven't heard of any research supporting that.

Man 1: "You know, the pollution in Bangkok is killing me."

Man 2: "Get a gas mask" (The drug)

Man 3: "Why not move?" (An alternative solution)

  2. "I think the statins are affecting more than your legs."

I'm not taking them. I just wanted to point out that no matter what people think sometimes there are obvious factors affecting their health which have more impact than they are willing to admit.

How many people's lives have been saved by statins? Any?

  3. I've always wondered about these drugs and most drugs. Even though there are so many drugs on the market people seem to be more ill than ever. My cholesterol has been on the moon forever. If anyone should be taking drugs it probably should be me. I got some drugs once and took them for a few weeks but never took them again. I don't trust the drug companies and even the doctors who so willingly follow the what the drug companies say.

I would say that exercising, eating better for your personal situation, living in a healthy environment, and improving your mental state will do wonders. If you these things and then have a problem you might think about other solutions such as drugs.

If you take a tiger from the jungle and drop him in the arctic how long will he live without his food and the environment which is best for him.

    We need the same.

By the way how high was your cholesterol. Mine has been up to 340. Can you beat that?

  4. Why don't the banks maintaint their ATMs? I use Bangkok Bank and for the last couple months the ATMs near where I live never have any paper for reciepts and often are just plain out of service. The local bank branch won't take responsibility(that's typical Thai service!) They just say its some other offices responsibility. Bangkok Bank has been particularly bad lately. It makes me wonder if they are in need of new ATM experts to service their machines. Even at the Asoke skytrain station the machine was out of paper reciepts. Other banks are much better. I can't tell you how many times I've taken money out of machines without a printed reciept. It's ridiculous. Are you experiencing what I am experiencing with the ATMs?

  5. I just thought this might be useful for someone. Do you agree with these thoughts on Thailand?

    1. For Thai people the concept of gaining or losing face is extremely important.

    4. Half of the world's luxury goods are sold in Asia.

    5. Public display of affection – except for holding hands - is largely still a taboo.

    6. Teachers traditionally get a lot of respect.

    7. Foreign teachers are usually considered the clowns of the school.

    8. Students behave when studying with a Thai teacher; this behaviour is usually the result of fear.

    9. Corporal punishment – although outlawed - is still common in many schools.

    10. Students often misbehave when studying with a foreign teacher.

    11. Foreign teachers are often frustrated by the way Thai administrators run things.

    12. Communication between Thais and foreigners is often crippled due to insufficient language skills from Thais and lack of cultural understanding from foreigners.

    13. Getting angry results in loss of face – for yourself primarily – so conflict is to be avoided at all times.

    14. Thais will never really understand foreigners.

    15. Everything has to be 'sanuk', i.e. fun, in Thailand.

    16. The sanuk-attitude might be one of the reasons why students often perform poorly in schools.

    17. Thais get bored very easily.

    18. The rainy season usually starts in June and ends in October.

    19. Many Thais seem to think that you can master English in just 50 hours of tuition.

    36. You should never believe anyone who claims they need money because the family buffalo is sick.

    37. Transvestites are very common in Thailand.

    38. Cross-dressers are sometimes hard to spot for newbies.

    39. These so-called ladyboys always dress like a lady, usually sport an above average bosom but seldom have their crown jewels removed.

    40. Ladyboys are gainfully employed as sales staff or hairdressers and hardly ever frowned upon by locals.

    41. All Thais love their 'somtam' or spicy green papaya salad, a national dish which is definitely an acquired taste for foreigners.

    42. Foreigners are called farangs or falangs by Thais, originating from the word for French. Nowadays farang refers to Westerner.

    43. Most Thais don't pronounce the 'r' when speaking, but replace it with the letter 'l'.

    44. Chances of finding a teaching job increase exponentially when you are white-skinned.

    45. Sad but true, the highest rated quality for teachers is often appearance; for Thai recruiters, race, skin-colour, age, gender and 'look' in general are more important than say experience and flexibility.

    46. Thai primary and secondary school students cannot fail exams; if they fail, the teacher has to make the test easier or drill the answers into students before they retake it.

    47. Quite a lot of expatriate farangs become somewhat cynical after having lived here for a number of years.

    48. Employees are never allowed to criticise their superiors' opinion; even offering constructive remarks or personal ideas are taboo.

    50. Saving money for a rainy day is a concept which is alien to most Thais.

    51. Thai women forgive but never forget.

    52. Thais have an amazing ability to catnap anywhere, anytime; put them on a crowded bus in a noisy street and they'll still fall asleep after a few seconds.

    53. Most Thais are fanatic supporters of English Premier League football clubs.

    54. Many Thais love gambling, so the national lottery is hugely popular but just about the only legal option; betting on sports events, playing card games or going to a casino are all forbidden and operators have gone underground or abroad.

    55. Many locally married foreigners met their sweetheart in a naughty bar.

    56. Marrying a Thai girl means marrying her whole extended family; moreover, for Thais family always comes first.

    63. Among younger people, going Dutch is becoming more popular; they call it 'American share' though.

    64. Thais love to put sugar in and on their food. Even salad cream contains up to 25% of it.

    65. A lot of married Thai men seem to have one or more mistresses; amazingly, most wives seem to resiliently accept these 'mia noi' or 'minor wives' or get involved with a 'gig' (close boyfriend or girlfriend) themselves as divorce is not very common.

    66. Huge massage parlours catering to locals can be found just about everywhere and business is brisk.

    67. Prostitution is legally forbidden in the Kingdom.

    68. Soy milk is extremely popular, cow's milk isn't; locally produced cheese simply does not exist.

    70. Teenagers and adults alike still think The Eagles and John Denver are hot.

    71. Thais like their music so loud that talking becomes almost impossible without shouting; using earplugs when going out is probably a good idea if you don't want to go deaf.

    72. It's ridiculously cheap to get a tattoo; getting rid of one supposedly costs an arm and a leg though.

    73. Women – both young and old – often have a rather childish sense of fashion compared to Western norms; it's not unusual to see a woman sporting a Doraemon T-shirt, Hello Kitty watch and Mickey Mouse bag.

    74. Female university students prefer their white blouses so tight that it looks like most of the buttons are about to pop off; unfortunately, they hardly ever do.

    76. It is not uncommon to see children behave like spoilt brats.

    77. Foreigners cannot buy property in Thailand, except for condos.

    78. Banking rules and regulations often tend to be complicated and xenophobic; most banks buy foreign currencies but almost none sell them.

    80. The King is revered as a god and prostrating (i.e. lying face down at someone's feet in worship) for all members of the royal family is considered normal.

    81. The usual Thai greeting is the so-called 'wai', a prayer-like gesture accompanied by a bow of the head; the more respect you want to show (or the more ass you want to kiss), the deeper the bow.

    82. Although the Thai Chinese community only accounts for a small portion of the population, it controls most of the country's wealth and influence.

    83. Thailand is becoming ever more popular as a medical tourist destination.

    84. Apart from cheap plastic surgery (e.g. face lift 825 USD, breast enlargement 1,125 USD), heart and organ surgery seems to be in rising demand as well.

    85. If you're a bloke, you can have yourself turned into a woman for as little as 1,625 USD without any questions asked. (Quoted prices are from possibly the cheapest clinic in town)

    86. Thailand is considered to be one of the safest places to travel.

    87. Although Thailand is cheap, business proposals that seem to good to be true usually aren't (e.g. the gem scam).

    88. Teaching is the most popular profession for foreigners living in the Kingdom.

    89. Although the majority of teachers are dedicated to their job, a number of midnight cowboys continue to give teachers a bad reputation.

    90. Showing up late, phoning in sick, being unprepared or unqualified, and doing a runner are probably the most common problems with teachers.

    91. The Ministry of Labour issues a very short list of jobs that foreigners are allowed to do; basically, if a job can be done by Thais, foreigners are banned from doing it so forget about becoming a taxi driver or shopkeeper.

    92. Foreigners can legally own maximum 49 percent of a company; setting up your own company thus involves handing over ownership to trusted Thai companions or working with nominees, which is technically illegal.

    93. Living and working in Thailand is completely different from holidaying in the LOS.

    94. Newbies often claim that they "have fallen in love with this wonderful country and want to spend the rest of their life here" after a two weeks' holiday.

    96. It is safe to drink beverages with ice and eat at roadside restaurants.

    97. Gold is a common commodity in Thailand; buying and reselling gold jewellery is done every day by people needing money or wanting to spend it.

    98. A prolonged stay in the Kingdom, especially Bangkok, can be detrimental to one's physical health due to high levels of air pollution; it might also affect one's emotional and financial well-being.

    99. If you want to visit a county where the average girl is pretty, sexy, slim, friendly, smiling and helpful, don't waste any more time and come to Thailand.

    100. If you want to visit a country where the average girl is prudish, vain, small-breasted, petulant, moody and materialistic, don't waste any more and come to Thailand.

    101. The best time to travel to Thailand is anytime, so why put off the purchase of your aeroplane ticket?

  6. There are lots of old flip flops lying around Issan houses. Find one for the sole and another to wrap around the beer. Cut them into the right shapes, a circle and rectangle of course. Buy that 11 baht super chang glue and fix them together and you're ready. If you are someone who walks around with a beer in their hand wherever they are (incomprehensibly rambling on about things) leave the plastic strips on the flip flop on as a handguard to keep the beer from falling out of your hand as you stumble around the house. best of luck

  7. Got this one on our work computers too. It hijacks the homepage to a Thai gamesite called lastchaos. At the top of the Internet explorer it says 'Hacked by Moozilla' The recommendations worked. Notice that the KILLGodzilla cleaner is on update Number 4 now I think. I guess it is mutating very fast. I think people that use the computer at work brought it in through opening a bad email. I also wonder if it is possible to get it through Yahoo messenger because we have one girl who likes to use that here at my work. Anyways it was brought onto the computer by a Thai user at my office.

I bet a lot of Thai net users are being wailed by this right now. This is the second time we got hit. Just type in 'Moozilla' at Google thailand and you'll se quite a few posts.

  9. I support the current government as at the moment the media still isn't completely free from Thaksin and his cronies. After years and years of brainwashing, the brainwashed aren't going to snap out of it instantly. There are nuts out there who think Kim Jong Il, oh I mean Thaksin should return to be prime minister.

This government hasn't influenced broadcasts like Thaksin's cronies did. And it hasn't fired reporters. In fact, it has even let ITV stay on the air despite the fine against it.

Wake up. The snake is gone and he's not coming back. The fantasy is over and the people need to know the truth. The news people need to get the truth out.

The government could see that the selfish news people out there (like Sorayut on Channel 3 ) who refused to report anything against the government when Thaksin was in power are fired but it's giving them a chance. It sure is amazing to see how many of them are starting to open their mouths since the change in government. The media was used to brainwash the nation in the past. It can't be trusted at the moment. The government needs to keep some control over it. A lot of the news media really need some self-evaluation before they are going to be respected again.

  10. Did anyone see the documentary on the BBC about 'Global Dimming?' Global dimming they believe is a result of the effects of high levels of particles in the air blocking the suns rays. With an increase of particles in the air over the last century water evaporation worldwide or in many places has decreased. In addition to this, there is another effect. When there is less dust in the air more water molecules will cling to each particle of dust resulting in rain. In the past with less particules in the air rain would fall more evenly throughout the globe and it would fall less heavily. Nowadays with more stuff in the air the water molecules in the air easily attach to a particle but with so few molecules attaching to each particle the rain doesn't fall where it normally would. Instead, the molecules travel further away until the number of molecules on each particle increases to an amount that is heavy enough to make the particle with water molecules fall - rain. But while the mass of dust particules travel they pick up lots of molecules from lots of places and dump it all at once in one place. So when it rains it usually is extreme whereas in the past it wasn't. Does any of this make sense?

The cleaning lady in my office said it looked like rain a couple of days ago but it didn't rain. In fact it has looked like rain one and off for a few days. It sure would be nice if it rained. It would clean the air but it doesn't look like that's going to happen as now it is as they say when it rains, it pours. So we will have to put up with extremely thick goo in the air until it does rain. The scientist on the BBC documentary believed that Global Dimming could actually be worse than Global warming. My conclusion, we're doomed.

  11. Looking out across the greater BKK metropolis I see well nothing because the sky is a very thick white. It almost looks like a snowy sky. What is that stuff? I guess it's pollution but maybe I'm wrong. As I said on another thread I've had a dry cough for some time now and I really am starting to believe it is from the air. I've never heard of air quality reports here. Do they have air quality information for Bangkok anywhere? There are many things wrong with Thailand but I think this one may just be the one that does me in. It sure is funny that the local people don't seem to talk much about air quality here.

  12. * Finish the elevated train to Don Muang.

    * Force the owners of half-built skyscrapers to start work on finishing them or have then sold to the highest bidder.

    * Build more schools in the countryside.

    * Create Asthetics laws which would force property owners to clean and maintain their property or face stiff fines and possible liens

    * Enforce laws keeping elephants out of urban areas while at the same time developing a program to help elephants and their owners survive. If the elephant is a symbol of Thailand, the country should do more to protect it.

    * The government should stop Thailand's polluters. The future looks dim with so much pollution in the air and water.

    * Enforce the laws or get rid of them.

  13. I believe there are some Buddhist organizations in the making which plan to spread the word of Buddhism throughout the world as the christians do. I hope that western countries will be as open to allowing young Buddhists to enter their countries and walk their streets spreading Buddhism the way other countries have allowed them to do. Buddhism is way behind in marketing itself but some people in Thailand are starting to see that the Amway-style door-to-door marketing of Christianity may be the way for Buddhists to get their word out in Western countries as well. When it comes down to it religions must compete as businesses do. It's the way of the world.

IMO There are a lot of missionaries in poor countries like Thailand today because there are a lot of financially poor people there. They are not spiritually poor, just short on opportunities and cash. Lots of people from developed countries are trying to spread something in these countries.

  14. Why is it that anyone goes to hel_l? If God is full of love for all how can anyone go to hel_l without God saying something like burn this guy's soul. Are there things out of God's control? How can they be out of God's control? Can't God control Satan? I thought the basic idea was that God has control over everything? Am I wrong? I know I know its a long story....

  15. I agree with Plus. Thaksin will do whatever it takes make his enemy look worse than himself. He's not looking for a retirement condo in South Palm Beach.

As for all those wonderful News sources and their fight for human rights etc etc . There's got to be a lot out there against them. I quickly found this through a search. It's not specifically about Thaksin but it seems Temasak got some bad press from some International Newspapers and won a case against them.

    http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/world/2...zine-libel.html

"Foreign news organizations which have succumbed to Singapore's libel laws include The Asian Wall Street Journal, the International Herald Tribune and Bloomberg LP, which paid damages in a case involving the Lee family and Temasek in 2002. "

  16. All I know is that the tollway runs right by DM. Think about it. Thailand needs to get with it and start cleaning up this country. Like they say in the west this place is a fire hazard. The government needs to get rid of the sloppy way its doen things for years and get the police to enforce laws to stop crime. They need to stop the illegal industries here or legalize them. They need to use a big stick policy against those in Thai society who are holding back progress. This country should have better government institutions without corruption, a cleaner enviroment, less crime, and less corrupt mafia types running around it.
