You beat me to it. To me that sounds as if the revenue office in your home country, automatically will forward all your earnings to the Thai revenue department. And that was also what my bank told me, when I was asked where my tax residency would be. If I select Thailand as my tax residency, I will be exempt of withholding on my interests, but it comes with a caveat. If you use the tax exemption, the document is valid for one year and the taxes are passed on to the selected tax office. I decided to keep my tax residency in my home country.

Because you don't have to be a tax resident to get a 1 year extension. You can have 1 year extensions and stay less 180 days in Thailand
