Despite his initial interest in Marxism, Hitler later rejected it and developed his own form of socialism, which he called National Socialism. He argued that his socialism was about shared social identity rather than collective ownership, and he saw Marxism as a Jewish strategy to subjugate Germany and the world.35
In a 1923 interview, Hitler explained that he chose to call his party "National Socialist" because he believed that socialism was the science of dealing with the common weal, and that Marxism was not true socialism.4 He aimed to take the term socialism away from the Marxists and redefine it according to his own nationalist and anti-Semitic ideology.
