  1. When we arrived in Thailand on a holiday a couple of years ago I asked a Pattaya taxi driver if he likes Russians. His reply was he didn’t “they steal fruit”.
  2. 😱With some of the plumbing in Thailand I don’t think I would comfortable on the loo with the thought of a snake arriving around the U bend. 🫣
  3. Living so close to nature, do you ever get Snakes in the Garden or House?
  4. Add North Korea, Iran, Afghanistan and Belarus to the list.
  5. Brings back memories of the UK attempt to send some migrants to Rwanda. Even though the UK is out of the EU, it's still subject to ECHR rulings and they ruled illegal by them. The only solution for the UK appears to be to elect Nigel Farage who will either take the UK out of ECHR or just ignore it, along with the relevant UN convention. Seeing the boats rolling in daily with economic migrants from safe country of France makes the blood boil.
  6. Looks like he wrote that announcement.
  7. I remember seeing this earlier this year. Keeping a Lion right in the heart of Pattaya.😮😮That noise would keep me awake at night,
  8. This is why they bombed the Cambodian supply lines before the ceasefire took effect, because they didn't believe the Cambodians wouldn't honour the ceasefire.
  9. Yes, we would bf willing to travel to Bangkok for the best care.
  10. Welsh paper reports imply the Gofundme page was set up by his Gran. At least that’s the way I read it. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/man-arrested-after-welsh-dad-31855347
  11. The costs I think he must have been put in the Chonburi Government hospital and they realised there was no way they would recover the true cost of the treatment. Initially on life support and unconscious for 6 days he must have initially been on ultra expensive life support. If he had ended up in one of the private ones, it would have been way higher and they are likely to have pursued him for more money. Earlier press reports quoted repatriation costs of £28k, but looks like he got a commercial flight.
  12. We are booked to come to Pattaya next month. My wife has an ongoing medical condition called Scleroderma and needs to have ongoing observation from a Rheumatologist. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a Rheumatologist they have used? We saw a presentation by Dr Nantharath Wongwar-Aporn at PCEC and were impressed by her.
  13. The police are certainly setting a high standard for arrest. Since brandishing a BB gun and knife with perceived intent to use it after hitting a porter doesn’t get you banged up.
  14. First went there when I married in 1986. On the return journey from our honeymoon our locked luggage was put at the back of the bus behind the back seats. During the journey, someone with a knife cut through the luggage and took money and passports. Ironically we put these items in the luggage because we were worried about bag snatchers pinching the small bags we were carrying. All sorts of problems, with the police wanting a little sweetener to provide us with the necessary crime report, to take to the embassy for a replacement passport to be processed. Been there 10 times since and walked many miles around Manila, Cebu and Danao, but never encountered any problems. Although I was wary about walking in some of the sketchy areas.
  15. We were there last summer and I agree they are very law abiding, except for cycling on pavements. I was amazed how many cycle on the pavement, when there are beautiful wide roads without pot holes. Some come up quite quickly from behind and I had a couple of close passes. One street we were staying near even had a sign placed in the middle of the pavement, but cyclists would just cycle round it.
  16. Thanks for the information, thats very interesting. I was wondering if you could advise me what hearing aid and translation device you ordered from Lazada? It sounds like a good option.
  17. When you say lease, do you mean the Booking.com confirmation? I won't be able to produce a long term lease until we find somewhere, hopefully in that first month.
  18. As it's not in Bolt or Grabs interest to implement these changes, it will be interesting to see how they handle the oversight and how much fares increase by. Also I expect the changes may slightly reduce the number of vehicles available as some drivers won't want the extra hassle of complying with the new regulations, if they are strictly enforced.
  19. Just had a hearing test and unfortunately I do need to wear aids now. AI says that the level of technology available in Thailand doesn't match that in the UK and suggests buying aids before moving to Thailand, The pair I tested today from Hidden Hearing charges overnight in a similar cradle used for ear bud recharging in a USB port. It has a smallish behind the ear attachment to hold the aid in the ear in place. The problem is you are meant to have it checked every year and potentially adjusted. I really don't fancy travelling back to the UK every year. Has anyone had hearing aids prescribed and fitted in either Pattaya or Bangkok? Or has anyone brought a similar type when moving here from abroad and been able to get round the yearly adjustment problem.
  20. As advised in a previous thread, I have now obtained a Non O Retirement Visa in the UK prior to my flight next month. So firstly thanks for all the advice on that thread, that will help reduce stress levels going through immigration. Unfortunately while my wife has had the required £20k in a Bank ISA for 12 months, it is managed through Hargreaves Lansdown and doesn't get a monthly statement from the bank. We will apply for a visa, but I am not confident it will be granted based on HL statements. So looks like I may need to arrange a safe entry for her. From reading previous threads my plan would be to firstly get a SIM card sorted out. I then want to try to open a bank account to deposit the 800k THB. We initially have a one month rental booked through Booking.com and I hope to arrange for a TM30 through the agent who advertised the condo. Am I right in thinking that I should then try and get a certificate of residence issued by Pattaya immigration to help in opening a bank account? TIA
  21. That makes it more dangerous for pedestrians now. Avoiding the dimwits on bikes heading for the very space they will be walking on.
  22. It would be nice to think the investigating committee would see through this as further evidence of Thaksin's guilt. Being promoted while under investigation for corruption, jeez. We can live in hope, but very unlikely anything will come of the enquiry, or this objection.
  23. I wonder what his wife thought when he presumably said to her at midnight "I'm just popping out for a massage." I know what my wife would think.
