There is ALMOST a ZERO percent chance you will get in trouble. Just go to work. Why? Well, first of all, the school has tons of political weight in the community. The police will not beat down a school, embarrass a school, or fine a school. It's a lose-lose. I've been at many schools, this is common practice. I've also seen firsthand teachers in your position to leave school and come back an hour later because immigration (or someone) called the school and said they are doing a check. This is also pretty rare. So, yea, about a zero percent chance you get deported, etc......... If you are white and good-looking, then it goes to zero. Now, you can still get fired and NOT paid because they know you can't go to court since you were working without a work permit....this I'm not sure about. Yes, you have way less leverage not having this work permit, but I wouldn't worry if you show up on time (the most important part of the job) and look OK. To be honest, you think you have leverage with a work permit, but they can fire you for any reason, and you might not be thrilled with your last paycheck. The Labor Department doesn't force the school to pay you, there's still a court date or arbitration. I don't know this firsthand, but I've known teachers pretty bitter about their departure and went to the labor department for advice. remember, you should also be deported, arrested, etc....for being with a hooker. OK. Millions do it, why aren't they all arrested!!! the police know where the hookers are!!!!! lol. Once you start working, you will realize this is just the first of a zillion headaches down the road. keep us updated on all the red flags. The agency and/or school might take advantage of you. It's a good exploitation scheme. I hope you have a degree.

I've seen about 100 teachers with little or no experience attempt to teach. I'm sure 90% had their heart in the right place, but almost none had proper training, and it just seems like a business. Some only played YouTube, some showed a movie, some did nothing, some smoked at school and got fired, some were hungover, some were way too quiet, some had no clue, some just gave them papers to do without talking, some........is this teaching English? nope. The good ones always left. lol Most are there for the visa. It's either a native or non-native speaker in the classroom, that's it. Evaluation? Nah. Just show up on time, and take a good picture. Babysitter is the best way to describe it, because if the kids aren't happy, they will complain. Nobody complains if the teacher lets them do whatever they want. Yeah, maybe it's different in the International schools; however, I'm sure it's not that different. The international teachers get triggered when you tell them that maybe 1 out of 300 kids are good enough in English to study abroad. Numbers don't lie......English competency is extremely low, turnover is super high, and pay is very low.

Seeing lots and lots of "teachers" hired without degrees and some leaving after only a day or week.......well, this system is broken. What I found that works is to ACT DUMB. Act like you don't understand the stamps and that you were sure the date was next month, but don't act dumb for too long. just dumb face expressions, scratch your head, nod, apologize, act like you had no idea... Then pay and smile and apologize again. had two overstays in three trips over about 11 years. one was the fault of my school and they paid, and the other was my fault from reading some visa stamp that was the maximum allowable day I could start the visa. first trip to Thailand, paid it going to Poipet, Cambodia (once in 2010, NEVER again!!! lol. That place is scamish), ah, wasn't fun, life goes on. it was like a week I think. i think my last one was in 2017 and it's only going to happen again if some life apocalypse happens.... none in the current passport and there are only five pages left, I do think that weirdly helps. anyhow. you will be fine but it will cost you. always sad to be a backpacker on a string budget but then pay 10,000 when leaving. met lots of backpackers back in the day who simply just don't check for months ...... for the old guys, we know exactly when.
