  1. I would be interested to know what they are if they aren't tourists.
  2. Yes if you consider that real tourists only stay for less than 30 days as I did when I was working and holiday time was limited. People might get 28 days paid leave a year but try getting permission to be off more than 15 days consecutively. Now I am retired and would love to spend longer in Thailand it seems I am not wanted. Oh well find a country that is more appreciative of retired people and would like to stay longer. Yes there is of course to the tourist visa but this come down to does Thailand really want you. Seems though don't.
  3. Maths has changed since I learnt it then or my calculator is wonky. Or please point me to a site where annual deaths is 21900. If it doesn't include those that died in hospital then the total must be even higher. I can only find an approximate figure for 2025 of 18000 total. I must admit I thought it was higher than that
  4. 2024 the motor cycle deaths were 14144. I make that 38 per day not 60. Unless there was a huge increase in 2025.
  5. Yes watching channel 82 in the UK Talking Pictures TV which concentrates on 40s/50s and 60 films and programmes you would think it was against the law NOT to smoke. Time and time again two people meet up and the first thing one of them does to to offer the other one a cigarette. So blatant. As you say I assume the programme makers were sponsored by the tobacco companies.
  6. I don't actually know the details, I am not in Thailand at the moment. It may well be that the price is reasonable. All I know it is a new build house in one of these villages. I will be very surprised if there was not provision for the inclusion. There again it is Thailand so I should absolutely expect the provision for A/C has not been included in the build. If 30,000 is not unreasonable at least I have something to go on.
  7. I am seeing quotes of 30,000 baht for a single unit which seems very expensive
  8. Back in the 80s I used to work with guy who on arrival at work would put his cigarettes on his desk that he would smoke that day. There was more than one packet. Now be my memory is hazy but I think it was 3, 4 or 5 packets. This was back in the days before smoke free environments. But I haven't mentioned the worst bit. This wasn't a 9 to 5 job. He would bowl in about 10 and sod off at about 3.30. Probably smoked in the car and at home as well. Oh and when he left the job they re-organised the office and I got his desk that I then had to fumigate. Just reminded me of another job. I worked in hospital doing estimates for building work including re-painting wards. One job was the rehabilitation unit. People coming odd addiction etc. So I went to do a measure up. And in the day room noticed the dark brown ceiling. Except is was actually meant to be a white ceiling.
  9. This is actually a computer problem but I will ask here. When at home I tend to access Whatsapp on the laptop rather than the mobile phone. Previously not an issue. The laptop had been linked so I just opened Whatsapp and it remained open until the laptop was shut down. This week I had to install and upgrade to Whatsapp and re-link the lap top and mobile Whatsapp systems. The trouble is Whatsapp on the laptop keeps closing down on the laptop so I have to keep re-opening it. Or just use it on the mobile. But since I use Line on the laptop also it is a pain not being able have Line and Whatsapp open. Anybody come across this and found a solution to keeping Whatsapp open in the background?
  10. Are they very tall or peering over the fence on a step ladder? I would worry about the stability of a 3 metre tall wall.
  11. I am in the UK but going to stay in Pathom Thani. The house has no A/C at present or so I understand. The house owner offered to install A/c at the prices I mentioned. But given the prices quoted it seems a rip off.
  12. It will be a new installation. Sorry I don't know all the details. I was enquiring on behalf of somebody else. They quoted figures that seemed very high, not that I have any idea of what the installation should cost. The quoted cost to install 12000/13000 BTU between 35,000 and 42000 baht. Bearing in mind in the UK I can buy a 12000BTU A/C for 22400 baht, just all the parts installation on top then the Thai price seems very high. UK will include 20% VAT. I am guessing the basic equipment in Thailand is cheaper anyway, much larger market. Talking near on a thousand pounds to buy and install an air conditioner, I don't believe it.
  13. See above. Only looking for a very rough figure. Replace existing B1500 ?????
  14. Can anybody tell me how much a typical air conditioning installation costs 12000/13000 BTU per room. Thanks.
  15. It seems China is now welcoming British tourists with 30 day visa free entry. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c150yv75pn7o
  16. Are you comparing economic migrants who pay people smugglers to enter, say the UK, on a rubber boat, having destroyed all their documents, then claim asylum with Western people retiring in Thailand and spending a significant amount of money in the country without being a drain on the Thai economy by chance?
  17. What is the US buying 54.3% more of. Buying more that half as much again of what ever it is.
  18. Just tried setting up a new account on a different email address. Enter the new email, password, enter the security question, hit the create account button, nothing happens. What a load of rubbish.
  19. Given the threats of problems with visa exempt I thought I would apply for a multi entry tourist visa. Now I am not at the stage of booking the flight as once I do that the clock is ticking. So I have been building up an application bit by bit. The final hurdle being the flight confirmation. Prior to that there was the issue of three months bank statements but only be able to submit one file. Got round that using pdf merging tool but then the file exceeds 4Mb. Got round that by just scanning the relevant pages of the statements, merging them to one file and now less that 2 Mb. Wonderful except every b100dy time I log into the saved visa application I get a 500 error message server error. To say I am p155ed off with this planned trip to Thailand is an understatement. No wonder the tourist numbers are down. Just too much damned hassle. Any ideas? Can I just delete the whole application and start from fresh. This is just purgatory applying for a visa.
  20. How can proof of life letters be second class. Wouldn't they have be sent at an international rate. As far as I am aware proof of life letters aren't sent to UK residents.
  21. I suppose that can work in reverse. The letter that you sent to notify the DWP that you no longer reside in the UK never got delivered and you continue to get the annual increases.
  22. That reminded me. a good few years ago I had sent some important documents to Thailand but the never arrived so sent them again. Then several months later the documents addressed to an office in Bangkok Thailand turned up having been delivered to a sorting office in Taipei Taiwan. Nearly the same as Thailand.
  23. She lives in the UK so needs a UK passport for travel to Europe otherwise she needs a schengan visa in the Thai passport
