An interesting fallacy. I've ridden here for two decades and seen a few deaths, two of which were on Third Road in the last year. How many people ride motorbikes and how many million kms per year are ridden on these roads? It can't be compared to Western countries, that's for sure. We're all playing odds here. If it's just around Pattaya you could use an electric bicycle to the same effect. The nice thing about a motorbike/scooter is the range. Once you're comfortable it's easy to ride down to Rayong for a day at the beach or out to Maprachan (sp?) Lake for a walk or to see some new scenery. There are really nice country roads on the darkside that are fun on a scooter and don't have too much traffic. Buddha mountain and the nearby temples are fun to visit. This board has a lot of pearl clutchers when it comes to the subject of motorbikes. When talking about road deaths one must also include the number of people who ride motorbikes in Thailand and how many km their journeys are.
