1. The Carroll rumours won't go away - Newcastle news saying a 16 M bid.

So if he were to go could we bring in any decent options?

I think Dempsey is a "decent" option and I guess that deal is done pending us getting cash from Carroll sale.

Sent from iPhone; please forgive any typos or violations of forum rules

Dempsey could be on his way to sunderland according to latest rumours

  2. maybe. benitez managed to keep it going with spit and sticky tape for a while but it's well known that he was asking for greater investment in the playing staff from the morning after the 2007 champions league final onwards. but we still finished second to a stupidly good united in 2009 and since then it's been plummet all the way.

Well, i see those "triumphs" as the blips, sad to say, as we sink further and further. What you see as a "plummet all the way since 2009" was an acceleration of the sinking that begun a long time before then. Even Houllier was papering over the cracks by throwing money at the problem towards the end of his tenure. Four managers in TWO years, BTW doesnt help matters any either. Especially when they want their brand of football imposing on the squad. No stability, no cohesion with all the players coming and going. No wonder its accelerarted like it has. All to be put firmly at Fenways' door

Being honest, we are no more than what we are. An upper mid table side, and it will take time to put right. Whether Rodgers is the man that will be afforded that time is another matter. What we MUST stop is ths revolving door policy with players and managers.

    I have a theory about Benitez's sacking:

He was too confrontational for what was at the time, the only viable buyers for the club...Fenway Sports

The man had to go, or Fenway would walk, and the club would have gone broke, or limped on with another load of debt placed on it by the previous Yanks. So we got lumbered with another load of Americans at the helm that run it by remote control.

The worrying thing here though is, the fact that the Boston Red Sox haven't won anything since 2007. No World Series, no titles............nothing!!!!

But i bet they sell lots of merchandise to the fans, though

we were in the european cup final in 2005 and 2007 and finished second in the league in 2009. since then we've regressed hugely. we shift about 250m quid a year worth of commercial stuff around the world. owners bought a 'brand' and don't necessarily see it as a football club.

Thats exactly what i'm saying, and have been saying for a while

These owners care nothing for the fans

And we've been regressing a lot longer than since 2009, if we were honest

Gone from bobbing along, with the occasional mouthfull of water, to the full scale looking up at the surface of the water, panicking.

And, lets be honest, here. We spunked a windfall of cash from the sales of Torres, Meireles, and Babel on the likes of Carrol, Downing and Henderson, where we could have bought better, cheaper.

  4. Just had a couple of quotes back from BKK places ( no names, no pack-drill) both over 200,000 baht.

Maybe a holiday to China is on the cards.

This China thing seems a bit "iffy" to me

A bit "too good to be true" perhaps

And no, i'm NOT doubting Laowai1960. I just worry what the long term has in store for him or anyone else thats gone this route.

It IS tempting though, having said that biggrin.png

  5. Focus and spending on the Boston Red Sox and using Liverpool as a cash cow is how its starting to look. Unfortunately Liverpools global appeal make it very attractive to these types.

indeed, as do liverpool's global marketing partnerships and the commercial revenues that come with them. we're the 8th most valuable club in the world yet last season were the 8th best team in england.

The worrying thing here though is, the fact that the Boston Red Sox haven't won anything since 2007. No World Series, no titles............nothing!!!!

But i bet they sell lots of merchandise to the fans, though

  6. A quote from the book "Roots" by Alex Haley, where an elder is describing how to detect the white man's presence to the young tribesmen who have never seen a white man.

"And remember, when you are close to where he has been, his scent remains in the air. It is a smell like a wet chicken. The white man is here."

  7. on agger to city, apparently a bid was accepted last week, the transfer was suggested to agger and he told them right out that he didn't want to move. interesting.

Looks like Agger was selected to be the one to fund the latest bout of hokey cokey. Good for him that he isnt playing along.

Charlie Adam looks destined to be a makeweight for the Dempsey, so who will be in the frame next, i wonder

"Martin Škrtel, come on down........the price is right" perhaps?

  8. that's precisely the way i feel about them. reducing the wage bill massively at present which reduces the quality of the squad enormously. yet focusing on merchandise sales and marketing / partnership deals to keep the sale value of the club high. don't think they've shown any commitment to wanting to take the club back into the champions league and challenging at the top again so far.

Its a case of no commitement in ANY department

While theres been little if any stupid soundbites from them like " a spade in the ground within 60 days" or other such <deleted>.....there hasnt been a spade in the ground in nearly 2 YEARS while they faff about looking for the cheapest (notice i said cheapest???) option to what is, quite a complex issue, it has to be said. But not one so complex as to be so insurmountable 2 years after taking the reins.

You regularily see the likes of Abramovich at Chelsea games, Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan at Man City games (OK, i looked that one up lol!!!!) Even the Glasers at Manu can be seen at Old Trafford often

Where are the likes of Henry and Co? Sat counting their money Stateside !!! They were strangely quiet when the Suarez incident was raging, too

No clear off the field leadership from them at all.

Where were they for the Hillsborough memorial service? they flew back to Boston for the opening games of their season is where !!!!

They have been given a lot of slack by the fans so far, but they need to be aware of the feelings of the fans in such respects.

I hate to say or even think this, but, in some ways the previous incumbents were better in quite a few of the departments that Henry and Fenway are lacking in.

  9. if he has retirement money of 65,000 THB, and his wife now only sends 20,000 THB, then she certainly doesnt take the rest for herself, but the money gets saved for him...

from the OP i dont understand, why 20,000 THB per month are not enough to care for a person with dementia...

if there is more money needed, and there are bills to prove that, then certainly the german relatives will send more...

    or not?

i think the guy has sufficient money and he should get a proper care here...

    its really awful...

I think the figure of 65,000 is to cover the visa requirements, which, looking at the story, he no longer gets each month.

Therefore it opens up more problems for the poor guy and those near to him in Thailand

I'm assuming, from the OPs comments that his Thai lady is still with him, and hasnt "cut her losses" and done a runner.

  10. we're the worst club in the world for bloody rumours. 4 signings plus a loanee? i'll believe it when i see it. especially as the gossip about the loanee was that it was kaka. usual nonsense.

i still don't remotely trust these owners and their motives.

But its like i keep saying......we've had this "hokey cokey" mentality for far too long now.

Might it be more than coincidence, that when this policy started, early 00's, we went on a bit of a slide to where we are now?

Too many signings and outgoings season after season for my liking. Its unsettling to both players and fans, IMO

Whats wrong with giving these (overpriced?) signings of the last year or so a chance to blend with each other, and the rest of the squad?

Glad to see, though, that i'm not alone in mistrusting these American owners.

Short arms, deep pockets, and a mentality that they can run the club by remote control.

With them, its all about the money, nevermind any trophies that come along in the meantime..they're secondary to them. The cherry on the cake as it were

Just keep the merchandise sales, and sponsorship deals going, and thats all they REALLY care about, it seem.

  11. Really what we need is to give what we have a chance to show what they can do

And i include the owners, the manager and players in that (but i can see them all having to raise their game)

Stick or twist? Lets stick for a change, eh?

    Twisting hasnt worked

I would rather we keep what budget we have for Jan IF we "really" need it

  12. Oh, I don't know, he's a fantastic passer and retainer of possession (90% completion rate last season, top 10 in Europe I think), will only get better, in a 4-3-3 we need more central midfielders than if we don't play that system, know's the new boss's methods and philosophy better than anyone, would be a good excuse to get rid of Adam, and he can even score a few goals.

I don't think Aqualani is dead certain to stay, but he could. But if he and Adam left, Allen would be a welcome addition to the squad in my eyes. It's not as if Allen, if added, would be the only other one added to the squad in the window. Rodgers said he's hoping to bring in 2 or 3 more after Borini, and probably in those areas you mentioned.

Again, who said he's going to cost 20 million? All I've seen is 15, max.

Not a bad discussion of pros and cons of Allen to Liverpool, here:

    http://www.theliverp...e-bring-to-lfc/

These players all look great on paper. Watch some of them on Youtube and you can go into raptures watching their skills. Charlie Adam was the "hollwood" passer we all tghought was a snip at £7 Mill, and the provider for Carrol....Another player "full of potential" Different manager, different potential. A case in " in out in out shake it all about"

The point is, we have had this revolving door policy at the club for FAR too long. Players, managers, and even owners.

Seems to be a case of "bring in another 2 or 3 more after <insert name of player here>" all the <deleted> time these days.

Look at all the top clubs and see how many of their players have been at the clubs for any length of time

Then look at us. We have about 3 that have been with us any length of time...Reina Gerrard and Carragher

One of them (Reina) is unsettled...along with a couple of others, Škrtel amongst them. Gerrard is not quite a sick note officially, but he has carried the team for too long and is paying the price, physically. That leaves us with "good old Jamie"

Again, the point being we have nothing to build a team around. They either become unsettled, or they get sold to buy new players and the merry-go-round goes round and round, while we slip further and further behind the pack

Dont matter a jot if he costs 15 mill, 20 mill, or £150,000. We dont NEED him,and its a waste of whatever we pay for him. What we need, is like i said before...wide players with pace, a decent goalscorer, and pehaps a decent CB.

But,. most of all we need......STABILITY. The one thing we havent had in God knows how long

    Penkoprod

  13. Why on earth would we want/need him anyway?

Its not as if we dont have enough midfielders.......Dont forget the "new signings" of Aqualani and Lucas as well

What we NEED are (is) wide players with pace, a decent goalscorer, and pehaps a decent CB

(Škrtel is by no means settled, Agger is a sick note and Coates is "one for the future"rolleyes.gif )

Allan would be a waste of 15-20 Mill (or should that be ANOTHER waste of 15-20 Mill?)

  14. With andy c, liverool and rodgers are almost on a no win scenario, stay and he doesnt get a game, from rodgers reaction thats quite likely, it could be viewed as a bad decision, loan him out and he plays well, same scenario again!! I f rodgers isnt happy with him, Best thing to do, imo, take a deep breath take 12 -15 mil.and get rid. Thing thats gonna make the deal dificult is carrolls wages 60 g a week ? with 3 ? years left on his deal could be on a par with the transfer!!!!

Yup. I think we are going to have to take it on the chin, and move forward (Let's blame Comolli!!!biggrin.png )

I wonder what Fenway have to say about losing all this cash? I cant see them being too happy

  15. How well did this "Tika Taka play" work for Swansea?

Where did this on average 55% per game posession get them?

44 goals and 11th place in the league is where. Not exactly setting the world on fire, is it?

Surely the secret is to get some consistancy and cohesion with the players you have, instead of change this and change that all the time. This has been the mantra, almost since about 2004, and for various reasons. In which time we've fallen further and further behind, and even been overtaken by the likes of Spurs, Newcastle...Everton, even. We finished level on points with Fulham <deleted>.

And now its "All change, please" yet again.

Wouldnt it be better to adapt a system around the players that you have, instead of trying to adapt players around a system, and if some players dont look like they will "fit in to" the system being inposed, then out they go and new ones brought in to replace?

Too much change over too long a period has been the problem at the club. NOT the style of play, IMO

  16. What a shame, beginning of the end for mr carroll? http://www.bbc.co.uk...otball/18778825 TBH doesn't surprise me, Rodgers seems 2 like a clever footballing centre forward with a good touch and one thing andy carroll isnt, atm is a good footballing centre forward , target man, yes and good 4 getting on the end x's defo . Saying shame, if the Milan rumour has legs, I saw mark Hately pre, and during for England, his spell in Italy and ive got to say it helped turn him into arguably, one of the most complete English c/fs ive seen. perhaps that's why tony hateley, has said what he said recently. So u never know.

This is going to get messy, if true !!!! Doesnt inspire confidence in the player, does it??

I had a feeling this was going to happen, given that players like Carroll don't fit Rodgers' vision of how the team should play.

For my part i feel this "tika taka football" or whatever its called <deleted>, is just that........<deleted>. Will never work in the Prem

Surely he needs to work with what he's been left with, and try to get the best out of them BEFORE any introduction of wholesale and radical changes to both playing staff and methods.

For too long, now there's been a revolving door at the club. Time for it to stop, perhaps?

  17. Downing had been around long enough to be past the "potential" catagory as had Adam really although i agree with your point.

Also agree with Dev on the basis that Dempsey in the right package would be good as he's a proven effective player that will hit the ground running (as long as he doesn't look at it as his last big payday) and be reliable whilst bedding in the "potentials.

When i said potential, i wasnt referring to just age, or even how long some of those mentioned had been there, or thereabouts

More of what those players could "potentially" do for the team, once they pulled on the shirt for us.

The fact is that they haven't as yet to any great level.

BUT, having said that, it seems more prudent to presevere with them, and get a bit of continuity and consistancy going around the place, instead of this chopping and changing that invariably happens with new owners/managers

This buying for the future is all well and good if the present is on a sound footing

Though it hurts me to say it, LFC's present is anything BUT sound, and wont be until we have both consistancy and, more importantly, continuity.

    Penkoprod

  18. Unproven at this level. A decent prospect though I agree.

Liverpool’s recent transfer history has been littered with the word "potential"

Frankly i am sick of hearing the word...or phrases that mean the same thing.

Andy Carroll, Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing were signed, not for what they'd done, but for what they might do, once they donned the red shirt. They didnt do it. That, possibly was the main factor in the sacking of both Comolli, and Kenny Dalglish.

We need proven players, not those "with potential" yet again, surely???
