Prime Minister Considers Hosting Formula One Race in Bangkok
Galong replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Probably at 10,000 baht/joint. The F1 scheme is all about high rollers. -
Tourist Activities at Phuket's Cafe del Mar Disrupted by Taxi Conflict

Price for acting like an idiot = 500 baht. Cost to the image of Thailand for those tourists involved or watching = priceless. -
Just what is life like in Rural Thailand- ever wondered ?
Galong replied to CharlieH's topic in General Topics
I love cycling past stuff like this. I visit Isan a few times per year, but stay in nice hotels and eat at a wide variety of places. I do eat at rural roadside mom & pop restaurants, but I want the option of eating at a nice place. After a week or so of living in a hut and dealing with the inevitable noisy neighbors, I'm sure I'd be ready to a reverse 'Green Acres'. -

Bad News For Weed Shops: Potent Cannabis Poses Mental Health Risks

Did the autopsies all say smoking pot was the direct cause? I know a girl who had a blue car who died of a heart attack. -
The Palestinians are not Nazis nor German nor are they responsible for the Holocaust. 🤦♂️ Israel was GIVEN their country. Please read more. Israel was given a certain amount of Palestine and Israel has been steadily participating in THEIR unlawful expansion. Hamas has a legitimate point, however, attacking Israel is never the right solution.
-
You're making that up! You have no evidence and are only taking Israel's word for this. Netanyahu is NOT ALLOWING ANY MEDIA COVERAGE! He doesn't want the international community to see what his troops are doing. Besides, if 'some' Hamas terrorists are hiding among civilians, does that really JUSTIFY KILLING CIVILIANS to get to the bad guys? That's a barbaric position! That's the simplistic 'kill them all and let god sort them out'. That might look cool to some on a t-shirt, but it's evil. Hama should be tried before the international court soon. What Isreal is doing is happening right now and it needs to stop before anything can go forward.
-
False equivalence! Hamas, a terrorist organization, was completely wrong for attacking Israel. Israel had the right to DEFEND itself. Israel does NOT have the right to carry on indiscriminately attacking the civilian population of Palestine. There is a HUGE difference which is obvious to all but the most myopic. No media is allowed to watch what Israel is doing. That says it all. Oh, and Israel just killed some UN staff. The Israeli millitary is out of freaking control! Hamas was wrong and should be tried in international court. Israel is wrong for going way beyond what was necessary to defend itself. The US is highly unethical for supporting Israel and PROFITING from the deaths of civilians.

Finance Ministry Moves to Introduce 7% VAT on Inexpensive Imported Items
Galong replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yeah, Prayuth was dependably inept and mostly harmless. This chap is making too many ill-conceived plans/programs back-to-back. I have not agreed with any of his plans as far as them making a positive impact on the economy or the lives of the average citizen and certainly not for the expat community. Oh well, I guess I'll simply remain bent over for whatever the future holds. -
Free Gaza from Hamas by blowing up innocent Palestinians with zero oversight (or international media coverage of what's going on). It's sounds like someone is pro "Kill 'em all and let god sort 'em out" 🤔 Israel, as always, starts out doing something that needs to be done, then takes it way, way too far, to the point of committing atrocities on their own.

Foreigner Assaults Phuket Tuk Tuk Driver Over Fare Disagreement
Galong replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
This is tuk tuk, not a baht bus according to the article. Here's a question: if these drivers are so poor and don't make much money, why do so many of them have massive stereo system, fancy lighting, and all sorts of other 'luxury' additions to their rides? Shouldn't their pittance to towards something like feeding their families and saving for the future? Inquiring minds want to know. 😉 -
Foreigner's Shocking Behavior On Soi 4 Sparks Outrage in Bangkok [videos]
Galong replied to george's topic in Bangkok News
He's obviously got mental issues. How sad that so many commenters here ASSUME that he's just being a jerk. He needs medical attention not chastising. -
Avoid dehydration: What's the best to drink in this heat?
Galong replied to george's topic in General Topics
Sponsor tastes nasty and it's full of chemicals. In its natural state, coconut water contains electrolytes such as potassium, sodium, magnesium, and phosphorus. I cycle long distances every day regardless of the heat. I don't get dehydrated. I drink 3 to 4 liters of plain water per day. I eat a banana or two and some coconut water regularly. -
I'm by no means a fan of Biden, but my goodness, that statement (if done by an actual human being) is simply absurd. Biden is at least steadily working for the country. The economy is fine. Corporate greed is keeping prices higher than they should be, but that's not something any president can change. Meanwhile, the other guy is either playing golf, sitting in court, playing golf and cheating while doing it, or sending mean 'truths'. Name a policy that Trump has proposed other than simply saying 'tax cuts' at his rallies. He has no policies other than revenge and self-preservation from the legal system, period!

Mites: The recent bane of my existence!
Galong replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
We have a problem with dust mites and one of our 4 dogs has a terrible time with them on his bedding. Detergent, sadly and as you say, doesn't kill them. We don't have a dryer. So, we have a huge tub and make a bunch of hot water to soak the bedding it. It's a lot of work, but it's effective. -
Mites: The recent bane of my existence!
Galong replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
You can't fully block GammaGlobulin as far as I can tell, but if you hover your mouse over his/her avatar and click on 'ignore', you have the option of ignoring his/her comments, messages, and posts. I'm not sure how to do this on a mobile, but I'm sure the option is there. -
My wife and I visited Loei last year as part of a multi-destination Isan trip. We love visiting Isan. It's such a refreshing change from Phuket and very affordable. My main concern would be medical facilities. That's a big part of what I like about Phuket. BTW, we visited Phu Wiang, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Loei, and Chiang Khan on this particular vacation. It was a wonderful trip! We're off to Udon Thani and Nong Khai later this month. My favorite hotel in Thailand is the Amman Unique Hotel in Udon Thani. It's like a 5-star-ish hotel at 3-star prices. The location is wonderful and the restaurant is really good too.

I added him/her to my 'ignore' list as anyone who would say something like that is not likely to ever post anything worth reading. 😉 There is, of course, a smorgasbord of expats here. Yes, some are dreadful and others are delightful. There is a bunch in the middle. It's the way reality works in most destinations I'm guessing.

Friendly, honest, considerate, interested in local culture, financially stable and willing to support local business... stuff like that. None are barflies or here for the sex trade... stuff like that. 😊

I'm sure there are positives and negatives to every place. If I really didn't like here, I'd move. I fully understand why my friends are leaving. They have NOTHING tying them here. Four of them have only lived here for a couple of years.
