Tucker Carlson drops first episode of bare-bones Twitter show
jayceenik replied to onthedarkside's topic in World News
I used to watch him regularly until he got fired. Glad he is back on this new media. I understand that the Zelenskyophiles hate him but I am a Russophile so I love TC. -
Recommendation for translator in Bangkok
jayceenik replied to AP2019's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
For official documents TH to ENG and ENG to TH I have used the translation service of the Chula Uni. With the Chula Uni stamp on it the translation looks great! https://www.arts.chula.ac.th/ccti/?page_id=382&lang=en -
Montana becomes first US state to pass ban on TikTok
jayceenik replied to Social Media's topic in World News
My Isaan wife spends an awful amount of time on TikTok. Seems to have great fun watching all sorts of content. Cute dogs, sexy fashion. I'm sure she must have already a really thick personal "dossier" somewhere in the CCP files in China. -
Nato's border with Russia doubles as Finland joins
jayceenik replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Brave Finland will now be ready to storm the China beaches with her NATO colleagues when Big Protector will say so. BTW How many NATO countries fought in Afghanistan? At its height, the force was more than 130,000 strong with troops from 50 NATO and partner countries. -
Foreign Currency Deposits (FCD)
jayceenik replied to jayceenik's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Thank you for answers but my question was about obtaining a Credit Card. -
I'm a senior retired in Thailand on the one-year/800k plan. I have looked into getting a VISA CC here in Thailand. It seems like all Thai banks insist on a Work Permit before a foreigner can get a local bank CC. I've maintained a healthy Savings account at the KTB for years (800k + foreign source deposits) but it's not good enough for them. Anybody here with a local CC and no WP?

Has the "Ukrainien-Fewer" reached Thailand?
jayceenik replied to swissie's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
In Vietnam I was a heli pilot. On the base we had hooch maids to do our laundry. A clean uniform every day. When I saw these Russian soldiers hauling a washing machine out of a bombed building I thought immediately that they were taking it to their quarters to do their laundry. That was obvious to me. How else would they get clean clothes? But then I see this from my personal military experience. -
Pattaya Passport Office Relocated to Central Pattaya
jayceenik replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
From what I know the passport office was not paying any rent to the Avenue. It was like a "prestige" tenant. My TGF, now wife worked close to one year there just after it opened after going through a selective hiring exam and a two-month work experience at Chaeng Wattana MFA. -
I'm Belgian, I live in Thailand. I've had a PayPal account linked to a bank account in Singapore for many years. Now I've just received a notification from PayPal that seems to indicate that with an address in Thailand my account will be terminated on 30 November as I've no Thai ID. Is that right?

Just curious. Most posters on this thread hate Russia and hate Putin. So, who do you think sabotaged the Nordstream gas pipelines ? " A tremendous opportunity", said the US. Indeed... Though not for Russia, not for Germany, not for Europe (except Poland and Norway with their just inaugurated Baltic Pipe).

Ukraine war: World must act now to stop Russia nuclear threat - Zelensky
jayceenik replied to webfact's topic in World News
Any of you guys ever heard of Maidan and the (non-respected by Zelensky) Minsk Accords? Just wondering why so much love for Zelensky and so much hatred for Putin... -
Yes. I use BKK when talking about Bangkok town but, indeed, in a thread about Don Mueang airport I should have used that apt code, ie DMK. I'll keep that in mind otherwise it can lead to confusion. ????

It has something to do with when she was a very young impoverished Isaan village girl. She saw a Mira one day and thought how happy she would be to have one like that. Now she can. So, it's more like a sentimental buy for her. Not really a practical one.
-
Yes. She found one on the Net in very good shape in Pitsanulok for 250k. Just making up her mind before going there to check it and maybe buy it. She has a car but finds it more convenient to zip around the village on her motocy. The Mira would protect her from sun and rain. And it will be a new toy! No way I could fit in myself! And, Yes I think it's crazy money. ???? Thanks also to all who posted replies.

We have a car and a couple motocys but now the wife has set her mind getting a Daihatsu Mira. She has been looking pn the net for second hand Mira. They all are second car since production ceased some years ago. Anybody has anything to say about the Mira?

Russia cuts off gas exports to Europe via Nord Stream indefinitely
jayceenik replied to Scott's topic in World News
I must have missed something... According to what I've learned it's the EU led by the domineering Ursula vdL who decided to get totally away from Russian gas and oil for good. And Nord Stream 2 was refused certification by Germany not by Putin. -
Very good OP question and many thanks to the answers. My last trip to BKK from Ubon was a few years back. I then used the APT bus to BTS Mochit. Nice to know that I can now whizz easy to downtown.

https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/liz-truss-ready-to-press-nuclear-button-tory-leadership-race_uk_6305d5e4e4b00c150d662c87 https://tass.com/politics/1497439 I very well understand the geostrategic and economic motivations of the US to wage a proxy war war against Russia in the Ukraine. That the EU vassal states follow diligently their American Leader to WWIII is clear to me too. But, though I've learned a lot about that conflict I totally fail to see what would be the profit for a Brexit UK to go nuclear against Russia, Unless the UK is truly well more vassal to the US than I thought. Because, of course the UK decision to go nuclear first against Russia will have to be approved the US.

The drums of war are beating louder every day. The UK Armed Forces Chief has already declared that the UK military must be ready to fight Russia any day now and asked the troops to tell their loved ones that they're soon going to war. Liz Truss has said that she is ready to go nuclear against Russia. Boris Johnson has just made a surprise visit to Zelensky to tell him not to get into peace talks with Satan Putin. And Macron has made a very disquieting speech that has alarmed the French. Basically he said that their carefree life of abundance is over and they must be ready for "sacrifices" and privations from now on. Did he mean WWIII is coming? Enormous strategic and financial interests are at stake to make this Ukraine proxy war to go on and maybe develop into a full scale WWIII. Maybe nuclear.

I'm in the same situation. It's look, talk but no come close. At the first signs of flu-like discomfort four days ago my wife fortunately went immediately in self-isolation fearing Covid-19 as it has returned in our Isaan district village. She did indeed tested positive and got high fever for a day. The fever has gone but she doesn't feel well all over. Another test tonight. And, yes it's irritating that I cannot come close to her even when just talking. Lucky I am as I'm not positive at this time.

Government Remains Vigilant Ahead of COVID Status Downgrade
jayceenik replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The wife just got Covid-19. She felt sickly three days ago and went in self isolation fearing Covid-19. Yesterday she got checked positive and with high fever. Today the fever has abated but she still feels sick all over. Quite a few cases have appeared in our Isaan district village. It's fortunate that she had the good sense of isolating right at first symptoms so me and the family may just not have been contaminated.
